My husband found a second Facebook page that also claims to be the only official page for RTC, and that page says PIR is at 2pm PDT. Anyone have any other info? I have a very grumpy Chief in my house right now who wants to see his boy! ;-)

Actually at the top of the link it says they are experiencing an outage at the moment.  Hopefully they get it together soon!

  • Annie

I am confused about the liberty that those sailors get who stay in GL for A school. How long does the processing take after graduation? We have the fortune of living only 40 minutes away, but I don't know what to prepare for. Should we stick around after graduation, or will settling into GL take the rest of the day?

  • mustangmom65

The stream is freezing from time to time, but the audio seams fine Thank you so much!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

No, PIR is happening now and they are having technical difficulties.  Hopefully you can at least watch the tape of it later.

    This is what it says:

Our cloud service provider is currently experiencing an outage at the moment. Media may not be accessible at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I just clicked on the link I posted below and it seems to be working right now!

Annie my Son stayed in GL and after PIR he had to go back and get bussed across the street we werent able to pick him up till about 2:30 3. he called us and told us to be on our way so we did just that. they will get talked to prior about being within the 50 mile radius and to put there belongings away. but if you can get there early or on time you will be able to hear them chanting and marching in best thing ever!!!!

  • Phoenixmom

Annie stick around I would say, they may have changed things but who knows nowadays. My son didnt have the privilege to have overnights not sure if they are allowing this or they need to be back at a certain time. I Know we had to sign my Son out next morning and sign him in at night and it had to be the same people who signed him out to sign him in.

  • Phoenixmom

Hope this helps, those that stuck around were able to go shop at the NEX, so much time has passed I dont know what they are allowing.

  • JenningsMom

I’m praying all goes well for every family as my SR graduates September Third and we’re hoping for some liberty time as we live in Florida

  • mustangmom65

Thanks to B'sNukeMom for saving the day! The dvidshub link worked. He was a section leader, so he was on the outside and we got a clear view of him as he passed by the camera. Chief is happy, crisis averted! ;-)

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

mustangmom65 - yay!  Glad it worked and even better that you saw him ;-D

  • Annie

    Okay, that is helpful. Thanks!

  • mustangmom65

Just got the form letter from Son #2! I was so excited I was literally jumping up and down at the post office, and almost ran over a poor guy on my way to the car!  He hand-wrote the request for info for attendees, and managed to sneak in a short message to let us know he's having a good time and he loves us.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

mustangmom65 - that's awesome!  So glad to hear he's having a good time lol!  And that he loves you too!

  • Phoenixmom

mustangmom65 That is such Great News ! YAY! jumping up and down with you! Hope it brings you much comfort!

Hi! My oldest is currently at BC, with a PIR date of 8/20. We spoke to him a couple weeks ago and he got our info for graduation. Today I received another form letter with graduation info, and it said that we needed to fill out the enclosed (that wasn't actually enclosed) guest access form, or print one and fill it out, and send it back to RTC. Do I still do that? I'm just not sure how up to date the form is, considering it says that we won't have to show our vax cards/be vaccinated, when I know that we do. TIA for any help!

  • Phoenixmom

Yes I will post the form print it out and send back, And I would Pack vaccine cards to prove you all are vaccinated without it you may not be able to get in, Congrats to you and your family!

  • Phoenixmom

    I Believe this is it.

if you do not receive the form letter, then you can download the Security Access Form and complete it and send it to your recruit, but your recruit has the final say on who will attend PIR.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Here's the Security Access Form - keep in mind they are only allowing 2 guests and yes, you must be vaccinated.  You will need to show proof.

***UPDATE 7/29/2021***  ONLY FULLY IMMUNIZED GUESTS ALLOWED

    * * * New Guidance for Pass-In-Review Ceremonies Beginning August 13th * * *

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose). Specific information on this policy change will be provided in the coming days and weeks. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your support.

PLEASE NOTE – This policy is subject to change as leadership continues to monitor the spread and impact of the Coronavirus.

  • ChosenBlessings

Thanks! I've been following RTC's FB page, and saw the new info on liberty this morning. He goes to A school in Pensacola. We have a hotel room reserved through Sunday just in case we have extra time with him. (We figured we can always cancel if needed.) We are vaccinated, and have our cards ready. I just wasn't sure if we needed to send in the form since he had already called to get our info (scripted call) for graduation. And he wrote on that it "wasn't really necessary" on the back of the form letter we got today. I'm just trying to make sure we cross all the t's and dot the i's. I'm already stressing out because when I got my second shot they wrote the info with a blue marker, and it looks like a third grader did it. Not super professional, but I'm hoping it still passes muster. Thanks again!

  • Shanny

ChosenBlessings: my attitude was always that it is better to have too much knowledge and too much information than not enough. So even though I knew I wouldn’t get to go to PIR last summer, I still sent the form just in case. He wrote me and thanked me for it but said his RDC just had them shred the forms when they came back but “was happy to see the parents can follow directions better than the recruits”.
  • Phoenixmom

Hey Shanny whats been up Girl? been missing you havent seen you around much. been sick girl so Ive been laying low. hoping all is well with your Sailor and everyone is good!

  • Shanny

PhoenixMom: miss you!!! I asked Chipmunk the other day of you were ok! I had a not ideal reaction to a vaccine so it’s been rough for about 2 weeks. On the upswing now. My sailor is out making some noise again. He is mad at me that I didn’t notify him of my issues but what’s he gonna do from the ocean? Wasn’t worth a Red Cross call. Miss you! Hope you are on the mend and feeling better!
  • Phoenixmom

I all good Girl (shanny) getting better on this side....waiting on my Vaca but change of plans not going to WA. we have been hearing Seattle is coming down with covid again and reading the Paper from there many of the dining area are now wanting to see proof of being vaccinated. well I am good on that and my daughter and her family are not....... they do not want tochance her kids and her baby getting sick so I had to break it to mu Bud, it wasnt something I wanted to do but had to. • Chipmunk

Jules and JenningsMom - did you get answers to your questions about liberty? I am going back through my email feed and wasn't sure. I don't know if there is a clear cut answer. When my sailor was in 4 years ago, both those flying out and those staying in GL had to return to the base each night. Then at one point they started allowing overnight liberty for those staying in GL, but I don't know if that is the case or not still for those staying in GL. If they are flying out to their A school most likely they need to return to the RTC side, and as Partyofseven said, they need to be back early so they can walk back to their ships.

  • Chipmunk

mustangmom65 - So happy for you!!! Glad to know you were able to watch PIR!!

  • Jules

JenningsMom -- gonna look into it further, see what I can find out.

  • K⚓️

JenningsMom & Jules, did y'all see this

This was just posted by RTC on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

    REGARDING LIBERTY FOLLOWING PIR

Beginning Aug. 13, graduating Sailors are authorized liberty following the Pass-In-Review (PIR) ceremony. Liberty comes with rules and regulations Sailors must follow.

While on liberty, RTC Sailors will not consume alcohol (regardless of age), use tobacco products or drugs, visit tattoo or piercing parlors, hitchhike, or drive a motor vehicle. Sailors must remain in the complete uniform of the day at all times.

For all Recruit Training Command (RTC) Sailors NOT transferring to Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes, liberty expiration is at 2100 (9 p.m.). If “A” school is at TSC Great Lakes, Sailors will immediately return to their compartment after PIR to transfer and they will get liberty upon arrival to their new command once checked in and completed with any administrative actions. For Sailors not immediately detaching RTC, Saturday and Sunday liberty hours are from 0800-2100.

The expiration of liberty is in the division compartment, NOT at the front gate and late Sailors will be subject to disciplinary actions that could impact subsequent liberty. Sailors are NOT permitted to ride in private vehicles to their barracks from the main gate, so be sure to return your Sailor to the main gate with enough time for them to walk back to their barracks.

Upon return from liberty, all bags will be inspected for contraband. Contraband includes, but is not limited to: drugs, alcohol, tobacco products or associated paraphernalia, medication unless prescribed by a military doctor, food, magazines or papers, and portable electronic devices (cell phone, ear pods, etc.).

Thank you for helping us complete the mission of liberty while keeping the Navy’s newest Sailors safe.

  • partyofseven

Good Morning Everyone and welcome to all of our new members,

Annie- I would stick around since you live so close. We ended up being on base all day as we waited for mine to be released to us after our PIR.

It will be so exciting you won't mind the waiting.   :)

ChosenBlessings-It is so good to see you post on here. I totally understand. I would go ahead and send in the second form if they don't use it they will just shred it. You already have the first one sent it.

I'm sure they will still pass your cards I mean.

    When is your PIR?

mustangmom65- Whoo hoo on the second form letter. That's awesome!!!

K- thank you for posting that.  :)

Another day closer to PIR ladies.   :)

  • JenningsMom

Thank you everyone for updating me!! Great news and also I’m waiting on my sons second letter that’s arriving today!!

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning All, When we took our Son back we were able to take him all the way in and sign him in. and it was before 9pm. if you have to sign them in and out there is usually a line so beware of that. they cannot be late so early is better because you never know the circumstances. If you are using Sarge's Taxi his group out of all taxis and lyft/uber is the only one allowed on the base no one other than that if using a transportation. when we picked our son up in the Morning he was waiting for us out front got in the car and we had to drive back with him on base to sign him out, that was the only time my son walked. but again things may be different.

  • Chipmunk

Good Morning Phoenixmom - I think the reference to walking to barracks is especially pertinent to those who are still on the RTC (Bootcamp) side of things - my son asked us to return him by 7:30 pm (1930) because of different circumstances, but part of it is because he had to walk back to his ship / sleeping quarters. Something he told me also was that they are not allowed to run when they are in uniform and they were all in their dress whites with their tight dress shoes, so he had a very fast walk that he had done that entire day back and forth trying to get his orders figured out.

  • Chipmunk

So, I did some other inquiries and the best that I am getting is that nothing is for certain!! Gee, why does that not surprise me. I was trying to figure out if overnight liberty is going to be allowed for those staying in GL. Not sure.

A suggestion though. For those of you that have loved ones staying in GL, be sure to write them and let them know that we don't have any answers, so they are your best source of information. But tell them to be sure to ask about putting in a chit for overnight liberty on graduation weekend if they have family present. - This may or may not be approved but it is the best that I know of currently.

Also, please keep us posted when you get back from PIR and let us know what your experience was. I don't know if anyone was there this last weekend or not. Were there any delays with getting sailors after they checked in to the TSC side? If so, how late was it before you picked up your sailor and when did you have to have them returned?

I am not on FB, so I don't check that often but I believe there is also a TSC FB page so be sure to check that out as well as the RTC FB page.

Have a wonderful day!! Keep those phones close by!!

    * * * New Guidance for Pass-In-Review Ceremonies Beginning August 13th * * *

Recruit Training Command will re-open boot camp graduation, or the Pass-In-Review ceremony, for a limited number of family members and guests beginning with graduation ceremonies August 13. Each recruit can invite two guests (max, no exceptions) to attend in person. (Children 2 & under do not count toward the guest limit.) Guests 12 or older need to provide proof of immunization (14 days post final dose,) in the form of a COVID-19 vaccination record card, to attend. In accordance with DOD and local policy and in order to ensure the health and safety of all, every person attending is required to wear face masks and observe social distancing protocols. If you are unable to provide proof of vaccination, you will not be able to attend, and will not be issued tickets to attend. If you are unable to wear a mask, you will not be able to attend, and will not be allowed into the facility. This policy is subject to change as leadership continues to monitor the spread and impact of the Coronavirus. Please continue to follow RTC social media accounts for updates and check www.bootcamp.navy.mil for the most up-to-date information. For specific questions and inquiries, contact the RTC Public Affairs Office.

I'm still trying to figure out how to parse out Navy info lol.. If things are okay for in person grad still, mine is for Sept 10th. Sounds like if they are staying at GL, which mine is, liberty happens after they transfer to their A school dorm and do they get liberty on Sat and Sun? as well as maybe Friday afternoon?

  • Trey

in a followup to my own question lol.. it seems that if liberty is allowed,, can they sign themselves out? or do we as family have to do it?  Will probably be lyfting since we don't care to drive in unfamiliar settings and are staying at the hampton inn I believe a few miles away.

  • Anti M

Right now TSC liberty for PIR graduates is Friday evening, and all day Saturday and Sunday.  There was a brief period where they could have overnight liberty if family signed them out.  This probably is not happening, but be prepared.

You must sign them out, and the person who signed them out must sign them in. If you cannot sign them out, they cannot be out overnight, and must be with their liberty buddies the entire time.  You may need to rethink the rental car.

  • ChosenBlessings

Partyofseven- Thanks! We're so looking forward to PIR on the 20th. We're driving up on Thursday and have a room booked until Sunday just in case he flies out later than expected. I am absolutely sending in the security form; I just wasn't expecting it since we'd already done it on the phone. It's just all a bit confusing at times! The form says that vaccinated and unvaccinated are welcome at the ceremony (it doesn't matter to us as we are both vaxxed), and I just saw someone on the FB page today who felt they'd received the "miracle letter" and could now go even though they're not vaxxed. I really hope everyone gets things cleared up so no one gets their hopes up. At any rate, we're counting down the days now until we get our "I'm a sailor" call. Only about ten days!

  • GsMom21

So where do people stay when they go for PIR?

  • Chipmunk

Trey - Anti M answered your question, I think. Let us know if you have more.

ChosenBlessings - I hope things get squared away as well. But it seems that currently the most up to date information is being posted on the RTC website and FB page. The information mailed out in the form letters is printed up ahead of time and things are changing too quickly for it to be corrected before mailing (this isn't our first rodeo with this sort of stuff). If you are in other groups, I strongly encourage you to direct others to what is posted on the RTC and GL FB pages.

GsMom21 - People stay in any various hotel locations that are available in the Great Lakes area. I believe they should be sending out at brochure listing when you receive your form letter. - Give me a minute and I will post some more information on lodging.

Just a reminder - to the best of my knowledge, they are still flying recruits via military transport to their A schools. There will NOT be any commercial flights or opportunities to meet sailors at the local airports prior to their departure.

  • Chipmunk

This is the link to the graduation information on RTC website. Recruit Training Command - Graduation (navy.mil) Be sure to open up the various links for all of the information. Under Graduation Ceremony and Ticket policies is information on what to do and where to look for lodging.

Please make yourself familiar with this website. It was my only go to during BC and the week prior to my son's PIR four years ago. If we can't answer a question for you, it is your next best resource.

This is the brochure you should receive with your form letter, RTC_Brochure_July2021_web.pdf (navy.mil) The link is on the above mentioned page, as well as there are a couple more links, phone #s and an App listed.

Trey - if you are flying, I recommend getting a rental car and use a GPS locator on your phone for getting around. Sarge's Taxi service is also available.
