Northwoodsmom - Wow!! I don't recall you ever showing us what you had created for the gift basket! Can you post that up in the Blue Candles discussion above?

osubuckeyegirl, Lila, Ummi - and any others - In the discussions just above this comment wall on this page is one labeled Blue Candles. Some of the ladies put together posts of their blue candles that they made, especially those whose SRs went through BC during the COVID shut down and never were able to attend a PIR (Pass in Review) otherwise known as graduation.

The Blue Candles, decorations for inside your hotel room, and the gift baskets for Sarge's Meet n Greet are some of the ways to keep yourselves occupied while waiting for that form letter.

    Good Morning Everyone!!

Northwoodsmom - Thanks for sharing your picture in the Blue Candle discussion!

Two more weeks until PIR starts back up after a little bit of a lull. Just a reminder, this group page is public, so we do not discuss upcoming battle station dates - If you have questions be sure to ask in your PIR groups, that is what they are there for and to connect with others that are getting ready to attend PIR.

However, once you have received the "I'm a sailor" call, be sure to come share the wonderful news here with us so that we can celebrate with you. We are the ones that refer to that call after battle stations as the "I'm a sailor" call, your loved one will not likely immediately tell you they are a sailor. My son's first question when he called was, "Are you on your way?" My heart sank and I thought he was calling to tell me that he did not make it. I even sort of scolded him for not telling me he was a sailor. He was so tired and trying to think straight, trying to get some information and I was telling him what colors I would be wearing so he could spot me in the bleachers, and he was telling me where he would be standing in formation. He also did not have his orders yet, so we were unclear as to when he would be leaving GL.

Semper Gumby - Always Flexible - that is the name of the game around here.

    Good Morning Everyone!!

I hope you have a wonderful Friday! For our newer members we celebrate RED Friday (Remember Everyone Deployed) by wearing something red. I am so excited because I finally have a t-shirt that actually states that on it. My son's FRG (Family Readiness Group) did a fundraiser and one of the shirt designs was for a RED shirt. The excitement is bittersweet though because I know that deployment is over the horizon.

These times of no communication during BC are little steps to help prepare you for those longer times in the future.

Feel free to come share your ups and downs here, it is okay!

Good Morning Everyone!! I hope you all had a great weekend. Did anyone get a phone call from their SR? Did you receive a letter!!! My SR's letters always arrived on Thursday. One week I did not get a letter, and I was so concerned. Thankfully, he was able to call that following weekend. It turned out he had gone to medical for a persistent cough on Sunday and just did not have a chance to stop and write with all of the other things he had to accomplish.

This was also pre-Covid so the cough was not "suspicious". Keep sending the letters. Keep in mind though that your letters might not be returned, so let your SR know that you will most likely stop mailing letters to arrive just before their PIR. Also, I told mine that he did not need to write on that Sunday before PIR as we would already be in GL by the time the letter would arrive.

  • Northwoodsmom

Just wanted to share this with all of you even though my son is out of BC. He called this weekend because he was so proud that he got 2 excellences during inspections, one for uniform and the other for his room. Don't know about the rest of you but that was always a major battle for me between my son and myself. I was always disgusted with his room. Just wanted to share this poster with you because right about now I would settle for the messy room!

  • Lila

Hi all,   I did get a couple of letters so that was exciting and then on Saturday I got a surprise call so it frightened me a bit when I saw the area code but all was good.  He has already called home three times (inc. the I am here call) and one of those was a freebie from security office with questions and he got to stay on for a long time.  Sat was just a hey call and I was so happy to hear from him.  So everyone in his (ship) group - most all, have a head cold right now.  They get temperature check every morning and he said mainly just a sore throat and stuffy head type thing.  Cannot take meds or it will slow him down and hold him back to grad date.  So they get cough drops and that is at least something.  Had confidence chamber this past week as well and he said that helped clear his sinuses that day LOL.  Hope everyone is having a great week.  We only have about 38 more days to go.  So excited to see him soon.

    Hello All.
Excited to share we received our SR’s form letter on Saturday 05 MAR 2022. I was very pleased how quickly it came. Her arrival date was 23 FEB 2022. Looking forward to hearing from her personally…a letter or call is going to melt my heart. I immediately mailed off letters and love I had been writing daily while we waited.
    Love and Hugs to All

Update from RTC - the Mask Mandate has been removed but you are still required to show proof of vaccination.

    * * * New Guidance on Revised Pass-in-Review Policy * * *

Recruit Training Command is lifting the masking mandate. There is no mask requirement for recruits, staff, and guests attending Pass-In-Review. Each recruit can invite two guests (max, no exceptions) to attend in person to maintain capacity limitations. (Children 2 & under do not count toward the guest limit.) Guests 12 or older need to provide proof of immunization (14 days post final dose,) in the form of a COVID-19 vaccination record card, to attend. If you are unable to provide proof of vaccination, you will not be able to attend, and will not be issued tickets to attend. This policy is subject to change as leadership continues to monitor the spread and impact of the Coronavirus. Please continue to follow RTC social media accounts for updates and check www.bootcamp.navy.mil for the most up-to-date information. For specific questions and inquiries, contact the RTC Public Affairs Office.

Boot Camp moms and soon to be graduates--- I need your assistance.  Most all of you should have received a welcome message from me with a link to my blog on Bootcamp in the Age of Covid (If you didn't get that message just give a shout out and I'll send it.)
What I need to know from you all is how accurate is this information still?  I don't have any special insider knowledge so it's up to you and your Newly minted sailors to share information.  If there are areas that are Just flat out changed I'd like to be able to fix my welcome letter to reflect that.  If there are things that need changing/correcting/updating/modifying... Please click on my Icon next to my post and send me that information via private message.  If my time line is off or could use refinement sharing that too will be helpful.  I want to make sure we are following OPSEC and PERSEC which is why I'm asking that you PM me instead of posting on here.  Most info is fine to post but not all and this is the safer way.
Thank you for helping future New Moms who are overwhelmed to have a little bit of information to assuage their concern.

    12 MAR 2022

Just received a wonderful, surprise phone call from my SR. Enjoyed having a 25 minute conversation with her this morning detailing all the things she’s been doing the first 17 days of BC (arrived 23 FEB 2022). She sounded great and was full of energy and stories. It was so nice to hear about some of the things I’ve been worrying about. Funny how she put me at ease…lol. I feel very blessed to have received the form letter last Saturday and now a phone call. Now it’s more letters and hoping for another call. So proud of her!

I hope everyone enjoys their Saturday.

Glad to hear about your call with your SR-feeling happy for you. Enjoy the moments :-)

For me, it is just waiting again, been two weeks - no calls so days and weeks seems to be longer and longer.

    Regards,

    Maya

OkeechobeeJust4Bass - Lora -  Yipee!! A phone call. I am so glad that she put your heart at ease!

Maya2021 - Those stretches in between calls and letters can be long, I understand.

  • Ummi

OkeechobeeJust4Bass-Lora; Maya2021 - Don't you just practically LIVE for those phone calls?!!. I got to hear from my daughter every Saturday when she was in RCU. LOVED IT! Now that she's in a new division and I haven't heard from her since February. Agony! I know she had to take her final PFA run,  but I don't know if she passed it yet. "No news is good news".  Her PIR is this Friday, God willing. It may be that she passed it and is on to the last few trials of BC. Or, it may be that she didn't pass and is being given the opportunity to take it again and doesn't want to call till she has good news. All I can do is sit tight, pray, and hope for the best. I'm with you ladies!

  • Lila

Wow, sitting here watching a movie at 8pm and my son just called!  They earned a call for passing Drill and he was doing great!  He called last Sat am and they all had colds and he sounded horrible, but tonight much better and it is amazing how much better it all seems to get for him week to week.  Getting in the groove he says, and less anxiety about not being perfect is making for a more pleasant last few weeks.  He is calm and assured and it makes it easier for me as well.  I cannot wait until he can weigh himself - tomorrow and write me.  He has been eating so much more food than he was at home and it will be interesting to see if he has gained (he could use a few pounds) LOL.  Well we are only 4 weeks from PIR and it has been an adventure so far.  I hope all of your recruits are doing well also and I know how those days without calls can be.  Rooting for everyone.

  • osubuckeyegirl

Starting Monday, will be the beginning of 3rd week. When can I expect a call where I can speak to him? I did already the paper to where I mail in required information for PIR and grade date, etc.

  • Chipmunk

Ummi - Cheering on your daughter!!

Lila - I am glad that he is sounding better!

For those of you that have recently received calls, I hope you can answer osubuckeyegirl - my son was at BC 4+ years ago. As I recall, it was about week 3 or 4 that our call came in on a Saturday, but they can call at other times than the weekend. It depends on when their division is able to get a turn at the phone banks.

  • Chipmunk

Spring Forward - At least in my area, time change is at 2:00 AM on Sunday, March 13th

  • Ummi

osubuckeyegirl - just always keep your phone with you, and turned UP! Never know when they get that phone privilege.

  • Ummi

Chipmunk - thank you so much for that.

Lila- your son seems like he's definitely getting the hang of it, especially when he's feeling confident. Hope we hear more good news about him from you.
