I had planned to get on this morning and post a Merry Christmas and a message, but family time started sooner than I expected and we stayed busy all day long.

My sailor was not able to be home with me this year, because he & his wife chose other plans for their Christmas leave, but I have had to learn flexibility with that. And even more than my sailor not being here, I have had to be content with my grandbaby not being here as well.

I hope those that had a chance for Adopt - a - Sailor were able to do so and those who are waiting for letters and phone calls know that you are not alone - We have all been there before.

  • Chipmunk

Good Morning everyone!!  I hope those who were able to participate in the Adopt-a-Sailor program had a wonderful time.

Happy New Year everyone!  Asking for you all to say a little prayer for my son - he had his MRI on Friday and is scheduled to meet with the doctor tomorrow for results and to find out if he'll be cleared to return to training. Fingers crossed he'll get put into a new division!

  • Jasmyne

Happy Friday Eve indeed. Thank you for welcoming me to this group. My recruit had his swearing in yesterday and will be leaving for RTC on the 30th. We’re nervous but so excited!
  • Trey

Hi Jasmyne.. welcome.. I remember the feeling very well. We saved the clip off of youtube of his swearing in.. and I think they are still doing it..

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Welcome Jasmyne!  If you scroll down a page or 2 you'll see a bunch of things I posted that should be helpful.

One thing that is important is to talk to your SR about whether or not they would want to be notified of any family emergencies at home while s/he is at boot camp.  Some choose to wait so as not to disrupt their training.  But again, good to discuss before hand.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have.  Someone should be able to answer for you!

  • joe-mom

Welcome Jasmyne! It is an exciting time. I wish your recruit - and all of you - the best boot camp experience!

  • Chipmunk

Jasmyne - Welcome to the BC Mom and loved ones group! We are so glad you have joined us. Like B'sNukeMom said, feel free to ask questions, to just come share your day, your emotions that is what we are here for. To offer you support and encouragement.

Tootie - Just checking in on your SR. I don't know if you were able to hear from him or not?

  • Tootie

Chipmunk - Thank you for asking.  I just received a call from him and sadly, the MRI showed an additional fracture of the tibia.  He was given the choice to stay in RCU for (at least) three more months or to medically separate.  He has decided to come home and heal and return in 6 months.  Needless to say, he is heartbroken and my heart breaks for him, but I think he is making the right decision. I told him that he has a unique opportunity now that he's already experienced BC, to make a truly informed decision about whether or not this is the right path for him - not everyone gets that opportunity.   I am so grateful for this group and your encouragement and prayers - thank you all!

  • Chipmunk

Tootie - thank you for the update!! Wow, that can be a tough call, stay in and let the Navy pay for your healing but not be able to do much or come home.  In the end, your son has to do what's best for him not just physically but mentally & emotionally as well. We all hope the best for him.

You have a good point, he can have the opportunity to decide if returning for BC is really what he wants to do. No matter, we are always proud of anyone that is willing to serve.

I know you may not always follow what is going on in the group, but if you stick around, your insight into RCU and those struggles can be helpful to others, so always feel free to post and share. You are still a part of this community. Please keep us posted.

  • joe-mom

Tootie - I'm sad to hear your news, but it sounds like your son is making a wise decision. I imagine staying in BC but not being able to participate can be awfully lonely. At least he'll be with family and will have some time to figure out his next steps. We're all supporting him - and you - in this journey!

  • Northwoodsmom

Tootsie I am holding your son and your family up in prayer. He will heal faster when he is surrounded by his loving family. Timing is everything and if this is truly his hearts desire he will pursue his dream. It took my son 7 years so don't  let this bring him down. My son started at 18 and didn't become a Sailor until her turned 26. He loves what he is doing now!

  • Chipmunk

Miakoda5876 - Welcome Aboard!! We are glad you have joined us, be sure to come to the Comment Wall here and say hello to everyone and share where you are at in your Navy Mom journey.

Tootie - I am sorry to hear about your sons injury.  The good news is he should be able to re-enlist.  Get him home, get him healed, love on him and then he can do this again!  The 6 months will go by fast and before you know you'll be back here again and we'll be cheering you both on.  Hang in there momma and tell him to stay strong and we'll be waiting for him!
