Happy New Year everyone! Asking for you all to say a little prayer for my son - he had his MRI on Friday and is scheduled to meet with the doctor tomorrow for results and to find out if he'll be cleared to return to training. Fingers crossed he'll get put into a new division!

Welcome Jasmyne! If you scroll down a page or 2 you'll see a bunch of things I posted that should be helpful.
One thing that is important is to talk to your SR about whether or not they would want to be notified of any family emergencies at home while s/he is at boot camp. Some choose to wait so as not to disrupt their training. But again, good to discuss before hand.
Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Someone should be able to answer for you!

Jasmyne - Welcome to the BC Mom and loved ones group! We are so glad you have joined us. Like B'sNukeMom said, feel free to ask questions, to just come share your day, your emotions that is what we are here for. To offer you support and encouragement.
Tootie - Just checking in on your SR. I don't know if you were able to hear from him or not?

Chipmunk - Thank you for asking. I just received a call from him and sadly, the MRI showed an additional fracture of the tibia. He was given the choice to stay in RCU for (at least) three more months or to medically separate. He has decided to come home and heal and return in 6 months. Needless to say, he is heartbroken and my heart breaks for him, but I think he is making the right decision. I told him that he has a unique opportunity now that he's already experienced BC, to make a truly informed decision about whether or not this is the right path for him - not everyone gets that opportunity. I am so grateful for this group and your encouragement and prayers - thank you all!

Tootie - thank you for the update!! Wow, that can be a tough call, stay in and let the Navy pay for your healing but not be able to do much or come home. In the end, your son has to do what's best for him not just physically but mentally & emotionally as well. We all hope the best for him.
You have a good point, he can have the opportunity to decide if returning for BC is really what he wants to do. No matter, we are always proud of anyone that is willing to serve.
I know you may not always follow what is going on in the group, but if you stick around, your insight into RCU and those struggles can be helpful to others, so always feel free to post and share. You are still a part of this community. Please keep us posted.

Tootie - I'm sad to hear your news, but it sounds like your son is making a wise decision. I imagine staying in BC but not being able to participate can be awfully lonely. At least he'll be with family and will have some time to figure out his next steps. We're all supporting him - and you - in this journey!

Tootsie I am holding your son and your family up in prayer. He will heal faster when he is surrounded by his loving family. Timing is everything and if this is truly his hearts desire he will pursue his dream. It took my son 7 years so don't let this bring him down. My son started at 18 and didn't become a Sailor until her turned 26. He loves what he is doing now!

Tootie - I am sorry to hear about your sons injury. The good news is he should be able to re-enlist. Get him home, get him healed, love on him and then he can do this again! The 6 months will go by fast and before you know you'll be back here again and we'll be cheering you both on. Hang in there momma and tell him to stay strong and we'll be waiting for him!

Tootie -- I am heartbroken for you both to hear that he has had ADDITIONAL fractures occur!! I agree that it is a hard choice but coming home and healing may be the best option for him both mentally and physically!! We are proud of Him for trying and wish him well, be it here in the Navy or out in the "Real" world! Be sure he finds out if the Navy will pay for his medical care for his legs while he's getting stronger at home and Exactly what he need to do to re-enlist should that be his decision.
I agree it would be helpful if you can stick around to help other moms with SR's who may end up in RCU. There is nothing like hearing from a mom who has been there, Done that to ease those worries.
However, If you choose to leave this page, I also understand that and I wish you and your Sailor all the best!! Please stick around long enough to let us know that he's home safely! All the best to you and your Son no matter what the future holds!

Thank you all for your kind words. I will certainly keep connected and glad to be of any help to anyone. My son called today to say he started the separation process. I told him again that I was glad he was coming home and that he would now have time to reassess if he wants to reenlist. His response was "Oh I'm definitely going back!" So...looks like I'll be sticking around for awhile until we do this all over again in 6 months! I'll keep you all posted during the process about his separation experience and his medical care. He did tell me that he is eligible to continue his Tricare health insurance for 180 days after separation - so that is very good. He said the separation process will take 10-20 days before he comes home. I'll be so glad to see him!!

Tootie -- Do please keep us updated. It sounds like he's in a good head space and that coming home to recover is a great plan. I do hope that he's able to fully recover and heal and strengthen those bones (Take lots of Calcium and Drink his milk!!) and pursue his dreams!

Hello Everyone I had a wonderful weekend! My family and I went to Great Lakes for my sons' graduation on 1/06/2023. I must say we had an awesome time. We weren't able to make it to Sarge's Meet and Greet due to the time frame that we flew in. We flew with United with no problems. We stayed in an Air BnB in Waukegan. I rented a vehicle so we could get around with no problems. The air BnB was about 10 minutes from post. He is staying in Great Lakes for A school so after graduation, we had about 10 minutes with him and he had to leave to go get settled in. 4 hours later he called for me to pick him up and he was able to stay with us for the rest of the weekend. We cooked dinner on Friday and let him relax. On Saturday we went to the outlet which is about 10 minutes away, and then we went downtown Chicago to explore, and try some deep-dish pizza. On Sunday we went and had brunch at the Cheesecake Factory before we dropped him back off. I wish I would've known he didn't have to report back until 21:00 I would've made arrangements to stay another day. His A school was supposed to start yesterday but he is being delayed for two classes ahead of him, but none the less we can talk and facetime every day until he is finished with A school. He will then head to San Diego. The whole weekend was filled with bliss. So those who are waiting for graduation hold tight it will definitely be worth the wait :) #proud mom of a sailor
