I hope some of you received phone calls this weekend. If not, maybe your SRs had a little more time to write a letter.

    Good Morning!!

Congratulations to Training Group-4!! It looks like there are 11 divisions graduating from Bootcamp today. We wish all of our new sailors all the best as they move forward, may their families have safe travels and may there be lots of hugs!!

Our graduation ceremony will be live streamed Thursday at 0900 Central. Use either our Facebook or YouTube link to view.

I highly recommend to those with an upcoming PIR that you at least watch one of the replays of a PIR close to your own. With the replay you may ffwd through it, but it will give you a sense of what to expect when you attend your own Pass in Review.

Below are a couple of posts from the  RTC Facebook page which may be of interest to you:

This is for the day after PIR -

    Friends & family of RTC,

To better accommodate traffic flow on the day after graduation when families and friends pick up Sailors for liberty, a new traffic plan will direct guests to the parking garage adjacent to the USS Yorktown visitors center, the same place you would park on graduation morning.
Gate 8 (same entrance used on graduation morning) will be open from 6 to 10 a.m. All guests will park in the garage to wait for their Sailors who will meet them there.
When dropping off Sailors later in the day, guests will use Gate 6 at Illinois Street and Buckley Road and drop the Sailors off in the chapel parking lot. Gate 8 will NOT be open to vehicular traffic when returning your Sailors from liberty. Sailors may also be dropped off at Gate 8 to access base on foot via the automated turnstile using their CAC (Common Access Card).
PLEASE NOTE: **ONLY GUESTS WITH GRADUATION TICKETS MAY ACCESS THE BASE WHEN PICKING UP AND DROPPING OFF SAILORS TO AND FROM LIBERTY! PLEASE RETAIN YOUR TICKETS FROM GRADUATION.**
GUESTS INTENDING TO PICK UP A SAILOR FOR LIBERTY WITHOUT A TICKET WILL BE TURNED AND MAY HAVE TO PICK UP THEIR SAILOR AT GATE 8.

Another post from RTC FB page -

    Friends & family of RTC,
Due to a recent reorganization, we needed to relocate divisions into new ships (barracks). The following divisions will move from Ship 9 to Ship 7 as of January 7:
    013/014
    029/030
    033/034
    061/062
Remember, the training group and division your recruit was assigned to is not changing, only the ship.
    Ship 7 address:
    3405 Sailor Drive
    Great Lake IL 60088-3401
All ships addresses are located here: https://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/faq.html
    Thank you,
    Your RTC Public Affairs Team
Looking at the comments, it said that if mail had been sent already, it would be forwarded to the SRs after the 7th of January.

Good Morning Everyone!! Well today is PIR day but some families may not be able to make it as they had planned due to weather conditions across the country. Winter weather never plays nice when it comes to traveling via airlines or by land.

It had not occurred to me to comment about what happens when you can't make it to PIR unexpectedly? We focus a lot on what happens if our SR gets set back but not, how do we let them know that last minute plans got changed and we can't be there.  - This is where early communication comes into play. And it is why you are here to learn "No News is Good News." - As well as Semper Gumby - Always Flexible

Your new sailors are going to need to know those same things for their Navy journey. So, as their loved ones, you can start sharing these ideas with them in your letters. Let them know you are growing and stretching and so are they. Also, be sure to let them know that your plans are to attend PIR but if something happens you will hopefully be able to leave them a voice message or text on their cell phone. If they don't have access to a phone, tell them to not hesitate to ask another person if you may borrow their phone. I can't imagine any Navy Mom denying a sailor a call home. - If they do - well all I can say is "you reap what you sow!"

Make sure your phone ringers are on, and if necessary, make sure you change your voicemail replies to leave a message for your sailor. Answer ALL calls. You can always hang up.

Once my sailor was out to sea. They were in an area where roaming charges would apply, so we knew our son was not likely to call us. I received an unexpected call on my personal cell phone and I went ahead and answered it. It turns out another sailor had loaned him their phone so he could call once they were close enough for signal and given the okay to reach out to family. My point, I would not have had a chance to have talked to my son if I did not answer the call.

Cali Navy Mom - I am glad that things worked out for you to get your flights changed. Be thankful! Not everyone this past week or going forward will have the same. And it is quite alright to lose that "Calm" every so often. The tears still flow - Partyofseven called them Navy allergies.

  • BabySharkMom

Cali Navy Mom - Reading this while eating my morning oatmeal and my anxiety shot through the roof for you!  So glad you were able to get this sorted.  As a newer (son PIR 11/9/23) Navy mom I can guarantee you that you will be amazed by the graduation.  Keep calm and cherish every moment of that ceremony and first Sailor hug!  Congratulations!!  Safe travels!!

Dress warm Cali.  It's going to be C.O.L.D!  Bring something to sit on.  It breaks my heart when weather interferes with our plans.  We didn't arrive on time either due to thunderstorms.   Got in at 2:30am Friday morning.   Brief nap then off to PIR.  Another nap then evening with sailor.   Another nap and off to the airport with sailor then back to the hotel to sleep.  Just another sleepless time with the Navy!

MannaChef - Welcome to the BC Mom and Loved Ones group here on N4M. I am glad to see you have joined us. This comment wall area is the best place to post your questions, comments, or concerns. More of our members will see these posts than elsewhere and be able to reply. We all volunteer our time here, so you never know who might be able to answer. The more you post, the better we get to know you.

Everyone - Join me in welcoming MannaChef to our group!

MannaChef - my son left for BC over 6 years ago and is now a veteran. He was a Navy Nuke and then met a Navy gal. They are married and she is still serving, so I am still the mom of an active duty sailor.
