Hi ya'll...so my kid leaves for RTC in t-25 days.  We are pretty excited. I come from a USAF family but my kids have never known the military. She originally went to college to the ROTC program but after a year and a half, she decided the air force wasn't really where she wanted to be.  So, she enlisted in the Navy :) 

Pretty jazzed my kid is going into NUKES. She debated between that and ITS, but ultimately deciding on NUKES. (even after reading all the horror stories on reddit) She wants to be on a sub. For the life of me, I can't imagine why...I'm good to lay in a tanning bed (not anymore as i'm old and wrinkly) for 10 minutes!

wow. wow axolotmom.. sub and nukes.. at least she looked into it and is set on it.. that does help I would imagine when it goes through the tough parts..

I am solar powered.. I live in Texas.. 4 or so days with no sun and I am so 'off'..  my hubby was AF.. they didn't want my sailor but the Navy did.. He is in San Diego as an FC on a maintenance team..

AxoltlMom - You will definitely need to stick around and let us know your daughter's experience. Subs - Wow!

Trey - I am with you. We need the rain but these days we have had this week are hard on this sunshine girl!

AxoltlMom - both my son and DIL were nukes.  It's a difficult program - she will just need to take it one day at a time!  And if she's reading about it on Reddit then she already has an idea of what to expect lol!

Hi AxolotlMom! I'm on the other side, my sailor starts A School in GL today. These parents in here are AWESOME getting you through the jitters and nerves of boot---even with a Navy vet at home, it was hard as a mom!

Some funny things that we learned at PIR on Thursday that annoyed my Corpsman:

1: they get new Gore-Tex jackets, no more wool peacoats that get wet and heavy. You should have heard him complain about his Seabag and how heavy it was when his peacoat got wet, and then he saw my son's jacket. To say he was jealous was an understatement!

2: their pants don't button up the front on their dress blues, and their shirts don't lace up the sides. Another pout. I was super amused by my 6'1" corpsman complaining that my 5'5" kid had an easier time wearing his blues. My son felt otherwise. :D 

3: My son was so excited to go on overnight liberty, he dropped his seabag in the dorm and dipped...forgetting any additional tees, underpants, and socks. We had to do laundry Friday night so he didn't smell like a foot.

legoNavymom03 - Congrats to your sailor. Your post cracked me up! My son was actually disappointed that they no longer get the peacoats. He was going to buy one on his own but decided against it when he found out how expensive they are.

AxolotlMom - make sure she has her run time down before she leaves and also has the 11 General Orders of a Sentry memorized!  This will make things easier!

11 GENERAL ORDERS OF A SENTRY

1. 1. To take charge of this post and all government property in view.
2. 2. To walk my post in a military manner, keeping always on the alert, and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing.
3. 3. To report all violations of orders I am instructed to enforce.
4. 4. To repeat all calls from posts more distant from the guard house than my own.
5. 5. To quit my post only when properly relieved.
6. 6. To receive, obey, and pass on to the sentry who relieves me all orders from the Commanding Officer, Command Duty Officer, Officer of the Deck, and Officers and Petty Officers of the Watch only.
7. 7. To talk to no one except in the line of duty.
8. 8. To give the alarm in case of fire or disorder.
9. 9. To call the Officer of the Deck in any case not covered by instructions.
10. 10. To salute all officers and colors and standards not cased.
11. 11. To be especially watchful at night and during the time for challenging, to challenge all persons on or near my post, and to allow no one to pass without proper authority.

Good Morning Everyone!!!  How are we doing?  

I had a chance to go see my grandbabies who do not live near me, so I am a happy camper. But I live a lot farther from my sailor family, so I understand how difficult these days of no information, no news is. 

Happy Tuesday - sending sunshine to all!  I'm in SoCal and we are getting hit with non-stop rain and flooding.  It's been record amounts of rain and still going....
