My son is coming home for a few days... he wants to tell his younger sisters in person and bring he things home including his car. Since he lives off base i guess he was given time to take care of things and empty out his apartment-he will leave all of us here in tears - I am a 6 years navy mom it never gets easier - i would have loved to go down and see the ship off I've never done that
  • NaVySiS1030

I'm new to N4M. I am a sister of a Sailor. My mom is Sandra AM Mom on here. We leave next week for VA to see my little brother. It's bitter sweet.
  • Ant's Mom

Sandra AM Mom - that's my thoughts also.  Don't look like we will make it in time.  Know things are really crazy for my son.  Hopefully we will get a follow up email.  I haven't told our youngest much about his older brother leaving.  Don't really know what to tell him.
  • Ant's Mom

Sandra AM - this is our second one.  The 1st one my oldest came home before and talked to my youngest.  This time the youngest is more aware and is doing school projects about what's going on.  My husband did 10 years in the Navy.  I think it's been hard with my son leaving than it was when my husband did.  Got to quit watching so much news

I am new here everyone. My son will report on the 25th in Norfolk did I read he needs a passport? He just got his orders this week.
  • ckmom

Got a surprised wake up call yesturday morning.  My son showed up in my bedroom and wroke me up.  I was so surprised to see him and no I was not dreaming either.  My husband and 2 daughters knew he was coming, they just had to delay me for making reservations.   I'm on cloud 9 right now.  Talk to you ladies later!!!
  • Songbird800

Good evening all!  I am brand new to this group and just wanted to say hi!  My son is a CTT2 aboard the Bataan.  Nice to meet you!
  • siscarrie

So happy for you ckmom, enjoy your time with him!!!
  • ckmom

Thanks ladies I'm enjoying my time although he's not home much.  But knowing he is around close to home makes all the difference.  He goes back Tuesday. :-((((
  • Kathy Dee

My girl reports on the 27th. She of course did nothing about housing - she is single female. What should she expect?

Sandra i think our sons have to ok it with the ombudsman that we can be added to the email list. Does anyone know anything about that?
  • ckmom

Barbara   Thanks I did that but I'll try again.
  • Miranda Nicole

Ckmom - The ombudsman said today that everyones emails are getting added as soon as they can they have just had a high influx of people requesting to join.

They did suggest getting a passport for your sailor in case of emergency but these aren't required. It would just help your sailor get home faster if something did happen. I know that you can make an appointment at any post office or go to the Norfolk circuit court clerk and get one there. I hear they take 4-6 weeks to process but I'm sure you could just have it sent to the ship.
  • ckmom

Miranda Nicole ,  Is the passport something they can do on their own in Norfolk?  Or do I have to do it here in Mo. for him?  Sorry I never had to do a passport before pretty new to all this.
  • Miranda Nicole

He has to go in person and do it himself. You can read up on all the requirements here: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html#step3first
  • chandlersmom

What happens if my sailor has orders to report to the USS Bataan on Saturday the 26th and they have already left for thier deployment?  I read on the news they leave Wednesday.  Just curious how that works.  Does he miss getting on ship and just work on base?
  • chandlersmom

    Thanks
  • npsailormom92(Ship03Div025)

My son is on this ship preparing for the deployment. He is not very forth coming with information. I know that they leave on Wednesday.
  • Songbird800

My son is also on this ship.  This is also his second deployment.  Morean5, I totally understand!  I am having a terrible time dealing with him leaving this time too.  I am also a Navy wife (retired) so I am used to having my guy away from home, but it's different when it's your son.  God bless them all and hurry home!
  • ckmom

This is my son first deployment, I feel so bad not there to see him off. Yes this is very very hard.  Hang in there we are together on this trip. (((((((HUGS)))))))
  • Songbird800

I know what you mean ckmom!  I really wanted to be there too!  And you're right, if we all hang in there together, we will be able to support each other!  (((HUGS Back at ya))))!  ;)
  • ckmom
