their email is normally their last name and first initial @lhd5.navy.mil (this is all info that has been posted on the facebook). They were working on getting the marines' emails set up last week, they should be up by now i would assume (in case you have a marine on the boat).Try emailing them to see if they answer.

My sailor last night said they were good. He was trying to call and the phones weren't cooperating with him. Got 2 calls but i couldn't hear him talking. Said they hadn't gone far yet. (i hope thats not too much info).

  • Kathy Dee

I will try using that email formula (last name and first initial @lhd5.navy.mil) and see if she answers. thanks much. Also thanks for letting us know that the phone lines were down. I could not imagine why she did not call and ask me to start sending her stuff. LOL

I am so glad to have read some of these posts. My Son just arrive on the ship last week and we have only heard from him via a phone message. Hopefully he will have email soon. Do I need to get the address from him so I can send care packages?
  • npsailormom92(Ship03Div025)

Thanks for all this great info. I know that my son will call when he can. He is young and this is his 1st time out. I have always been able to leave him messages or text him. He had his phone service suspended until he gets back. I have been emailing on his yahoo address but not getting any response. I know he is fine. I have all kind on things to send him. I think every time I go to the store I pick up a little something to put in a care package. I am so glad to finally have people out there that understand. God Bless and have a wonderful evening.

I have discovered that the only thing i like about this deployment is my cell phone bill. Now that my sailor has suspended his it was only $16! I feel sure that it will be more next month, but its to not pay $160. HOWEVER, i would gladly pay the $160 for him to come home!
  • npsailormom92(Ship03Div025)

Amitchell and Sandra thanks for the info. I did not realize that they could not check it. I will try emailing his military account with the info available. Popcorn is a great idea. I think that I will get my boy some and send to him.
  • dms

it can take 30 days to receive boxes
  • Miranda Nicole

I know hubby hasn't received any of the boxes I have sent. I keep joking with him that he will get them all at once and be overloaded with stuff. Ha. :) Do any of you ladies happen to know where I can buy or order some good chocolate covered expresso beans? Hubby is wanting some and I have no clue. Where to find them. I guess he got some from a buddy and decided he liked them..
  • siscarrie

My son called me yesterday it was good to hear from him, he said he was doing good. It was funny, i had a feeling he was wanting to ask me something  and then he said i sent you an e-mail. So when i got off the phone i checked my e-mail and he asked,"if i knew someone that knows someone that would like to talk with a sailor man", I guess hes tired of talking to mom,LOL.
  • ckmom

I'm still looking for a camera for my son.  Does anyone know if they can charge up a camera on the ship. Or do I have to buy a camera that takes reg. batteries?
  • Miranda Nicole

Ckmom, there are plugins on the ship so you can buy a camera with a rechargeable battery. I know they have a plugin in every rack they just have to get the chargers inspected but normally that isn't a problem.
  • ckmom

Thankyou so much Miranda, I have been waiting for my son to respond to this questioned, well you know that might take awhile.
  • chandlersmom

Today is my Son's 20th birthday!  We have not talked to him since he got on the ship last Thursday.  First birthday to not see him so it's hard but I know it's all good and he is doing such great things!
  • siscarrie

Good, I sent a package on the 25th with everything my son forgot to get, i hope he gets it.
  • chandlersmom

Silly question of the day!  I just realized my Son only received his past two w2's for the 2 jobs he had prior to the Navy.  Does the Navy give a W2 as well?  I can't contact him right now on the ship so I don't know what to do about filing his taxes prior to the 15th.  Any advice?
  • chandlersmom

    No he didn't
  • siscarrie

Sandra make sure you freeze the cookies before you seal them so they won't crumble.
  • JillG

Sending out some cookies today. fingers crossed they are still edible when they reach my sailor!
  • siscarrie

JillG, i was looking at your page and i noticed you live in Beaumont, I live in Spurger about a hour north of Beaumont.

  • JillG

Sandra AM Mom- i can send emails as text its just the you just type in the phone number @vtext.com as the 'email address' if it is a verizon number and it will come to your phone.

siscarrie- what a small world. i saw on the bataan's face book there was a lady asking if anyone lived in east texas and there is some one from Lumberton on the ship as well. i thought that was a weird coincidence.

  • siscarrie

JillG, it is a small world, thats just neat! i will half to tell my son.
  • JillG

    How's everyone today?

Got an email and call from my sailor. Said it was a VERY long day yesterday. He has changed his job for 90 days and now he stocks the food away when they get it. (i am sure there is a technical name for this, but i do not "speak navy" very well) He spend 9 hours in the ships freezer!!! he also said he had woke up at five and didnt get off work till around midnight!!! I felt so bad for him! hopefully things will calm down soon!

  • chandlersmom

I'm from Texas as well Little Elm
  • siscarrie

My son e-mailed me earlier and said a pallet of mail went into the ocean, I'm so upset right now, i bet the package i sent on the 25th or his calling cards were on there cause they have been sent out 3 weeks ago. I have confirmation numbers for his packages i don't know if that will help me know if they are missing? He even had me order him some uniforms, nwu's and dress whites, and its been 2 weeks since i ordered those, i just don't know!!!

We are headed on vacation for 4 days and I sure am gonna miss my Navy For Moms, but i need this break.

  • ckmom

Oh No,  There were 4 boxes that I knew of that was sent to my son from family members.  I'll pray that not all of them went into the ocean.  BUMMER !!!
  • siscarrie

Just got on Bataan FB and the ABS said there was no mail dropped into the water, it was just a rumor. I'm so relieved right now!! Ok ladies i'm headed camping for a few days, i will catch up when i get back. Now i can camp and not worry about that situation.
  • JillG

How many of you are members of the Bataan's Facebook?? I find the comments by one of the ombudsmen to be infuriating! Is it just me??
  • JillG

LongIslandNavyMom- the ombudsman has now deleted it. It was her saying: Thank you. Now the phone calls, emails, and rumors can stop for today. there have been many more that i read that rub me the wrong way.

It made me angry because it is her job to be compassionate, sympathetic and a liason between the ship and the Bataan's FAMILIES. She volunteered for this job and i understand that she can has a right to be frustrated, but so do we. if she didn't want the calls and the emails she took the wrong job. I know that the problem with emails and texts is that you can not tell the tone of voice that a person is trying to convey. This is stressful enough for all of us. I don't like feeling that out ombudsman doesn't care.

sorry for the rant. its been a bad day today. hope everyone's day is better than mine!

  • JillG

Thanks Sandra. I am glad someone understands!

We all have our weird moments when we cry! I've been using Lifetime on Sunday nights for my weekly cry. "Army Wives" and "Coming Home" are a good excuse to let out your tears! Its been working. Haven't had a major melt down since i started watching them!!

  • JillG

But "Coming Home" causes happy tears!!

I'm not in Virginia, and as of right now my sailor will be back before the ship is, so i can't buy the tickets,  but I need to ask if i can just donate money to go to their homecoming, cause i agree it is a VERY good cause!!

  • chandlersmom

I have still not heard from my Son at all he has been on the ship since April 7th so I guess I should not worry.  Hope to get an email or something soon!  Any of you have a Son or Daugher that is brand new to the ship?  Just wondering if you have had communication.
  • JillG

I know the last couple days have been insanely busy. The last letter from the Captain said they were working on trying to get a routine down within this next week. Maybe Once it settles down you will hear from him!
  • chandlersmom

Where do you read those things?  I am on the Ombudsmen Yahoo group but I think the other group I signed up for has to be approved by my son so maybe that is why I have not had the info all of you have?  I guess he will get his email soon.  I am on facebook, twitter and google alerts.  I know they have been busy it's just strange for me not to be able to pick up the phone or text him.  This is his first deployment and he turned 20 the 12th so that was hard as well.
  • chandlersmom

Also another question yall were talking about tickets can u tell me what that is all about and how do we know when they are coming home?
  • JillG

No one bashed her. My mother asked her to please be more sensitive to those of us that are new to this. We are not used to rumors that apparently start every deployment. I think it was a totally appropriate response to her rude an uncaring comment.
  • JillG

And there is no need for you to feel guilty. you did not initiate the rudeness.
  • JillG

Chandlersmom- they are selling raffle tickets for first kiss, first hug, and front row parking. this helps raise money for homecoming. we still dont know when they are coming home.
  • chandlersmom

I asked to be on that site I guess they r still in process of getting me on? Chandler just sent an email to us via another sailor so I feel better! He said he will get his email soon.
  • JillG

YAY!!! Glad you finally heard from him!
  • chandlersmom

    Congrats!
  • JillG

I hope he has enjoyed his first year! Congrats to him!
  • Sailor's Mom

We know this may seem a rather odd question. All of my conversations with our Sailor lately, have been rude and sometimes cruel.  Do any of you other mom's or wives, etc. have any experiences like this, without getting too personal? We cannot find out what we have done to make him so angry with us as we hardly e-mail or speak. We are thinking it may be the pressure of his job, and we are the only ones he can vent to, just wish he would vent about what he is upset about, so we understand better. We do miss him greatly and he is 27 years old so we feel we cannot blame it on his age. It is so nice to hear that you are having good communications with your Sailors. Ours has never even asked for anything like food or needs. This is just such a quandary for us. Sorry for the sad post, but do not know where to turn as I have no other family and our Sailor is our only child. Just wondering if any one else has had these types of experiences? Thanks to all for reading this. Also thanks for the Marine website to whomever posted it on here as we found it very informative... Take care and stay safe!!

PS: We means my husband and I...

  • JillG

    Sailors Mom-

My sailor hasn't been negative during this deployment. However, he has had his moments before. His family and I are in Texas. He is in Virginia. We have been apart for 3 years. I noticed when he got lonely or was stressed we would have days (sometimes a whole week) when he was pretty ugly when we talked. It would make me upset, but I just had to remember: he is so far away from his family and friends. There for awhile everyone of his friends he would get close to and start to hang out with were either getting out of the navy, transferred to a different duty station (one went from Norfolk to Italy) or getting deployed. I realized he was just upset and had to brush it off.

Also, my sailor hasn't asked us to send anything either, but me and his mother just send stuff anyways. I just say if he uses it he does, if he doesn't he will give it away.

I don't kown your sailor, but I am willing to bet he is just stressed. I can not begin to imagine what those men and women are going through. It is tough for us, but we at least can keep ourselves busy with lots of things. They are pretty limited to work, work out, sleep, eat. I bet once he gets into his routine and settled down everything will be better.

Feel free to vent, cry, laugh or scream with us. I know we all want to sometimes and are happy to have a place to share this tough time with others that know what we are going through.

  • Sailor's Mom

Thank you  so, for your kind words. He is in a high stress job, an IS, which is Intell. Spec. So I assume that he has to keep every thing to himself. He has never regretted joining the Navy nor being away from us or his friends... I guess I will have to just accept his attitude towards me... When he calls his father is on the line also, and he is very pleasant to him, but snipes at me... I have sent him things before and learned that he does not want us spending $ on him.  He lived in DC before and graduated 1st in A school and 2nd in C school, I think he likes his deployment, as he has said this since he has been deployed. He even has another graduates from A & C school on the ship with him, in the same jobs. He forbids me from being on this site, but he is not my boss.. I grew up in the Air Force as my father was a Colonel from WW2 - Viet Nam... This doesn't seem possible, but he fibbed his way in when he was 17 and worked his was up from the Army Air Core to Officers training to become a Colonel and then finally retired after Viet Nam. I never told him how proud I am of him while he was alive, but every time I write our Sailor I tell him how proud we are of him.. I probably just need to get a thicker skin. I enjoy reading your posts, so will not post anymore sad stuff... Thanks for all of your kind words.... Take care and please all stay safe! God speed to those on the Bataan and all of their families..
  • ckmom

Donna Great picture!! You have to be proud!!
  • Sailor's Mom

Would someone please post the link to the Bataan Family site? I cannot locate it.
    Thank you, very much...
  • Sailor's Mom

    Thank you!
  • Sailor's Mom

Kellie, I have filled out the form, so will wait for info.. Thanks again!!
  • Miranda Nicole

Wish my husband would show up in one too but he runs when there is a camera near so its highly unlikely I will ever see him in a photo. Lol.
  • ckmom

does anyone have a sailor that is an AS on the ship?
