Help....can someone please explain how to do the cake in a jar?

    Thanks so much....

Haven't heard from my son in a couple of days...worried about the pepper spray.  I hate that for them.

  • Elaine

Just found the instructions for the "cake in in a jar" on previous pages.....thank you so much.  Going to try my homemade apple cake.
  • JillG

a.mitchell- maybe it wont be too bad. (fingers crossed) let us know if there was anything important that was discussed (well that you can post here with out violating OPSEC rules). I wish I could be more involved, but it is kinda hard when you live 1300 miles away!
  • JillG

a restraining order!! geez louise!! i would spike my drink too!
  • ckmom

Let me know what the FRG meeting is about you can friend me.  Not the drama just the business for USS Bataan.  Thanks Barb
  • JillG

no change is good. Thanks for letting us know Kellie!
  • JillG

I asked the same thing. She emailed me back and said send orders to the frg email..so i am guessing she will tell me where to send my check and how much (for shipping) it needs to be.
  • JillG

works for me..maybe you typed your password wrong??
  • JillG

hmm...i just followed the link from bataan.navy.mil I know a while back some ladies were having trouble pulling it up. not sure what the problem ended up being.

  • JillG

Has anyone else seen the picture of the day for yesterday? The burgers on the ship look better than the burgers at home! Makes me happy to know they are feeding our sailors well! And it makes me hungry!
  • JillG

hmm...may have to ask my sailor about the hoochies..(just kidding) he said he stayed out side for about 2 hours. just long enough to get a nice sunburn on his head (he shaved it the day before). I told him packed him sunscreen, but he is just too stubborn to put it on. maybe next time!
  • JillG

I think there is a lost password or reset password link on bataan.navy.mil

  • JillG

aww...maybe they will have another one when he isnt on watch.
  • Miranda Nicole

Hubby passed! Silly man never studied so I just knew he wasn't going to make it. I stared at his name for a while before it actually sunk in. Lol
  • ckmom

New to this what advancements are you talking about?
  • siscarrie

My son sent a pic of him to my e-mail yesterday , its of him getting his certificate for completing in-doc. Is it ok if i post the pic here?
  • siscarrie

    thanks
  • siscarrie

Here he is, I'm so proud of him, but hes all grown up!!
  • ckmom

siscarrie,  You have to be proud!!   Good picture!!
  • siscarrie

Thank you ckmom. I am very proud. He is my first to leave the nest, i have another that has only 2 years of HS left and he is seriously thinking about enlisting also. Its so hard with one gone, i don't know how i will handle two gone.

  • siscarrie

Oh No!!! So sorry to hear that. I don't know what the deal is with all this bad weather, its really bad, and i feel so bad for everyone.
  • ckmom

Has anyone talked to your sailor lately?   My son hasn't emailed me for a while just wondering if the system is down.
  • siscarrie

I finally heard from my son yesterday, it had been 3 or 4 days since i had received an e-mail. He said since he finished in-doc, he has been really busy with work and watch. He said he is really tired.

  • JillG

Heard from my sailor today. He sent me a picture. Its not technically of him but I can see him! Sounds like they are in for a VERY fun weekend (well the ones that aren't on duty). Can't elaborate due to OPSEC, but I am sure yall know! I'm pretty jealous of them right now! I hope you ladies have had a great week!
  • JillG

I have a Google alert for the USS Bataan and this is what I got this morning: http://www.navytimes.com/mobile/index.php?storyUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww...

I was really hoping this would not make the news. Kinda embarrassing!
  • Miranda Nicole

Jill, it's also in the paper edition of the Navy Times. I have a subscription and was so embarrassed to be reading the paper only to stumble across that article. Just a great example of how a few people can make us all look like idiots..
  • Sailor's Mom

I'm am so upset about the Facebook shut down!  It has taken me this long to cool off, to write a somewhat civil note!  This was our only info. of our Sailor... Why do people have to spoil it for those families whose Sailor's REALLY have to keep their lips zipped.... The Facebook page was the first time we ever got to even see any photos of the ship. We get absolutely nothing from our Sailor.... Do those not remember the saying "Loose Lips Sink Ships"  I hope those who have spoiled it for us are happy... Sorry about the complaint, as I know, none of you were responsible... Hopefully this shut down will send a message to those who ruined it for all of us and they will eventually put it back up... Sorry I am so sour.. :-(
  • JillG

My sailor said he had fun! Well at first he kept telling me he "just isn't a good tourist." Not sure what that means, but the 2nd day he had a blast! I amso happy for them! Glad they got to have a little fun!
  • JillG

I found another show to watch! Its called Surprise Homecomings. Its on TLC and hosted by Billy Ray Cyrus. It is pretty good!
  • Sailor's Mom

Thank you for the dvidshub.net site... I really appreciated looking at the photos...

    :-)

  • JillG

I guess my sailor was "cranking" for a while too. He was basically a "stock boy" as he put it. He put away all of the ships food and would spend hours in the freezer. He volunteered for it so he wouldn't have to have duty before they left. It was worse hours than his job as a machinist, but he wanted to make sure he didnt have overnight duty and came home at night on the weeks that I came to visit. Buuuut, that plan didnt work out with the early deployment so his first month on the ship was rough!
  • Elaine

It deeply grieves me to hear such negative comments coming from those who are supposed to be supporting our sailors.  These men are separated from their families, performing their CHOSEN career.  They are defending their country and countrymen….just as their forefathers before them.  No, it is not pleasant at times….in fact….probably most of the time.  My son has been through “cranking”.  His last 60 days occurred during the beginning of this deployment.  The first 30 he endured during the last month he had with his wife and 2 young boys prior to deployment.  The military has never promised a luxurious career.  God tells us to do the very best we can as if we are working for Him…..not man.  We must encourage our sailors and stop putting the Navy down.  We chose it. God bless  the families of our dear sailors and please keep our dear boys  safe as we do our best to encourage them while  patiently waiting  as they do their duty.

  • JillG

    Agreed joro and a.mitchell.

As my sailor puts it "the Navy probably saved his life." He realized he needed a structured environment to get him back on track, and I thank God for the man that he has become since joining the Navy, but EVERYONE is entitled to have rough days when they want to complain or rant about things. And i assume that most of these women on here are like me and keep it to a minimum when speaking with their sailors. This is a supposed to be a safe haven for those of us that need to talk about what we are going through. No one here is to put the Navy down.

  • ckmom

I havn't herd from my sailor son for awhile has anyone else talked to your sailor lately?  Just wondering he tends to forget to email me back. lol
  • JillG

haha- I have heard from my sailor, but I have also received emails from him at times that are WAY different that the time stamp on the actual email. I think their email may be acting funny again.
  • JillG

a.mitchell- Very cool! I hope he enjoys it!
  • Angiehm811

My fiancée says that the lines for the phones are long as well as the internet. The phones were down for part of the day, but I did get a short call before he went to bed. Im thankful to just hear his voice for a second.  :)
  • JillG

Oh joro you got my tears flowing tonight! I hope your son had a better day today!

My emails keep coming back too! Finally got one from him saying the email is pretty messed up but nothing since that. :(
  • JillG

No problem- i can always use a good cry every once in a while.

this was on the family site:

    Hi Everyone,
The ship is requesting that everyone try and refrain from emailing for a day or so.  There is a back log of about 9000 emails and they are trying to get them through, but it would really help if you could stop emailing for awhile why they do this.  Please pass this information on to any other spouses or family members you know.  Thanks for your support as always.
woops! I have been emailing alot the last couple days! i will stop for today and tomorrow!
  • siscarrie

My son usually e-mails daily but i haven't received a call in almost 2 weeks, I'm praying i hear from him soon!!  Our e-mails have been having a big delay also. I will try not to e-mail for a couple of days if that will help.
  • JillG

Got an email from my sailor today. It is VERRRRY hard not to email him back, but I am going to do what they ask and refrain. I hope they told our sailors that they asked us not to send any more for a few days. Does anyone know if they did?
  • Sailor's Mom

YEAH BATAAN FACE BOOK!!!!   THANK YOU!!!!
