I think he was reading my mind this morning, after i posted on here i received an e-mail from him saying he has been really busy, and he said he was sorry about it. But it was good size e-mail, more than 1 sentence.

Joro thank you for the info, he was telling me exactly what you said.

ckmom, think my son e-mails a girl from around my area alot , so i think he is spending his free time talking to her,LOL. She messages me if she don't hear from him, so i guess i half to be second, lol. I don't mind to much just would like to know things sometimes.

  • JillG

I asked my sailor about the swim call and he said he didn't participate. I think he is crazy. He most likely will not get the opportunity again to swim in that sea!
  • Stephanie

My husband got to swim off the ship a couple times when he was deployeed on the Eisenhower.
  • siscarrie

The water is so blue and pretty, glad you shared, hadn't seen it yet.

My son didn't say anything about swimming but i will ask.

  • Robyn

What pictures is the FRG talking about?
  • Robyn

    Ok thank you.
  • tinamarie

There are more pictures on the DVIDS website... I think like 9 pics in all of the swimming day.... I'm pretty positive I saw the back of my husbands head and shoulders in 1 of them LOL would be nice to see his face :)
  • ckmom

    I only saw 2 also.

  • tinamarie

No problem :) I just typed in USS Bataan swim and found the pics. I just wish they took more pics in general like all of the other commands. My best friends husband is on the Ponce and when they were deployed they literally had a little news paper with several pages every month with around if not over 20 pics in it and stories of what's going on aboard the ship.
  • JillG

My sailor said their time zone changed. They are 8 hrs ahead of Texas now. (let me know ASAP if this info violates OPSEC i always get nervous).
  • tinamarie

Hubby said the command is having the meeting today to discuss the homecoming date.... Cross your fingers ladies for a sooner than later date!!! I know I am!! I know we cant discuss dates on here but I figured it doesn't hurt to let you guys know they are trying to set something finally.
  • ckmom

Got an email from my son.  I was hoping sooner!!  It's still to for away, maybe it will be sooner.

  • ckmom

Regina,  Your so right!!!!!    Thankyou to all that is serving our country!!!
  • JustinsMom175

I haven't heard anything from my sailor yet about deployment. If anyone could send me a private message about anything they know I would sure appreciate it.

  • ckmom

JustinsMom  you need to add me as a friend before I can send a message to you.

    Barb

  • ckmom

    Barbara I didn't get a message.
  • ckmom

Sandra and Barbara I recieved your message THANKS!!!

  • Sailor's Mom

Lucky you, our Sailor won't approve me for the family site, and says there is a reason but cannot tell me until we are face to face... I am so tired of looking at the photo from basic with the awful scowl, to remember.. Maybe someone could friend me so I can get some info.... I am so in the dark... I would really appreciate it... Thank-you.... God Speed to all of your sailors!
  • ckmom

I would like to be informed also.

    Thanks

    Barb

  • JustinsMom175

Has anyone heard more of the time frame of deployment? I heard from my son this morning but he had to call his gf of course lol
  • ckmom

Kelli I just recived mine about an hour ago.
  • Sailor's Mom

How do I receive e-mail's from the Ombudsman? If our Sailor has to approve it, I am done for on that info... Guess I should just put a bag over my head until our Sailor comes home to the mid-west and removes it!   This is so frustrating! I might as well give up!
  • Viola Ney garcia

i am a new mom my son just graduated from the academy and went to

join the uss bataan ship about 3 weeks ago.

i was just wondering how long does it take for them to get packages?

  • tinamarie

Viola, there really isn't a great way to tell how long the packages take to get to them it all really depends on where they are. It has taken my husband as little as 2 weeks to get packages and other times it's has taken a month to 2 months to get them.
  • siscarrie

The average time is about 2 weeks, my son has received some earlier and later than that.
  • Viola Ney garcia

Thank- you all for responding so quickly.

At least now i have an idea how long it takes.

    Thanks

    Viola

Being a Navy wife it's a little rough finding those things that you love about a place until it's time to up and move. My husband will be joining the Bataan around November and I'll be moving to Virginia with my two young children, and our dog a few months after that. For those of you that live in Va, What do you love about Virginia? I'm talking great shops, cute neighborhoods, fantastic restaurants. Please, give me something to look forward to other than the fact that I may have a big comfy bed to myself for a while : )
  • Stephanie

ok Joro, I know your most likely not a realtor(that would be CRAZY if you were, lol) BUT are there any neighborhoods in particular that you recommend in Norfolk or Virginia Beach or any areas that I should probably stay away from when we are ready to rent or buy?
  • tinamarie

Stephanie, If you're looking to rent a house there are a few area's in Virginia Beach that are nice and have good schools. I LOVE my neighborhood and the school district is GREAT! I live in a subdivision called Coventry, in the Kempsville area. A few other good subdivisions around here are Salem Woods and Glenwood. The neighborhoods are nice and peaceful and have a lot of kids. We live in walking distance to the Elementary school Rosemont Forest.... I'm not a huge fan of Norfolk, to be honest there are a few nice areas but A lot of bad ones too and the schools aren't the best. This is our third time being stationed here... I work in Chesapeake and I know the Hickory and Great Bridge schools are great and there are a few good neighborhoods that I know of but I'm not that familiar with a lot of that area... I'm not sure what your husbads Rank is but the BAH here isn't that high and a lot of the houses are a bit pricey for rent... We pay $200 more than my hubbys bah in rent plus utilities. But for the neighborhood and schools it's worth it.... 100% possitive we won't retire here LOL Don't get me wrong it's not a bad place but everyone has their idea of "home" and for us this just isn't it.

  • siscarrie

Joro, i guess i better get busy sending a package then. Would it be to late if i send it Wed. or Thurs? Do you know why they won't be getting packages very often?

  • siscarrie

    Thanks Joro!
  • JillG

Well ladies, my sailor is officially off the USS Bataan. I would just like to thank you all for all the advice and the comfort that I received on this site. I sure have loved having people that know what I am going through to vent, cry, laugh, and chit chat with. I am still praying for a safe and QUICK deployment for you all, and will probably keep checking this site because it is now part of my daily routine.

I have not been reunited with my sailor yet. :( He was delayed a couple times off the ship, had his flight from Spain to Norfolk cancelled and rescheduled for the next day, and is working on getting everything in order for terminal leave. Once that is done we are done with the Navy! He didn't want me to spend the money on the flight to go to VA since he should be home within 2 weeks.

Again thanks all the support and advice! It was a pleasure!

  • ckmom

Good Luck Jill and wish you 2 happiness in the life ahead of you.  Thank your sailor for serving our country!!

    Barb

  • siscarrie

Good Luck to both of you Jill !! I'm happy for you!
  • JillG

Thanks for all the well-wishes ladies!
  • milwife2

@Sandra AM Mom - the "big meeting" was talking about their return, but you have to talk to your sailor or call the ombudsmen to get the skinny on that. Posting it on here would be an OPSEC violation

  • ckmom

Do you know how hard it is to get anything out of my son.   LOL

I hope we get a letter or do we need to call?

  • ckmom

Sandra I read that also, what's next!
  • ckmom

I know, I'm going to have my husband read it in the morning and see what he gets out of it.
  • ckmom

    Thanks I got it.
  • ckmom

Sandra your not alone we really need some cooler weather and rain to go with it.  We still have tripple digits here in Mo.   Our crops need rain bad!!!

Since we know the date when there comming home when should we start making plans for reservations and such.   I herd once they set a date it most likely wont change, but I know there is a possibility.  I'm just getting a head start on the party planning of him coming home.  Gives me something better to think about.

  • siscarrie

So how long before they get to take leave when they return? I'm with Sandra, i'm just thinking way ahead, if he gets to come home pretty soon after their return then i may not go to the homecoming, i just gotta save some money if i do go to the homecoming. I don't fly so im trying to figure things out.

  • siscarrie

Thank you ladies for the info, it helps to know and prepare for all situations.
  • ckmom

My son has never called me, when he left email was all he thought we needed.  I think maybe I should get him a calling card.  I sure would like to hear his voice.

I did get an email from him.   He bought some mufflers for his car that he said was being shiped home.  Played some basketball which he loves to play.  He said a little more practice would help.lol    He never says a whole lot just a couple of lines, so a phone call would be good.   But I don't know, he would called his friends instead of me.      (i just miss him a lot)

  • ckmom

How much does that cost to use your cell phone?   I herd it was expensive but I think it might be worth it.
  • Sailor's Mom

    Dear Navy Friends,

If you have a Masonic Lodge in your community they collect $,s for calling cards. They may have to come from your Masonic state's headquarters.  DC is the Grand lodge of all... I received one for our Sailor, it may be worth a try.... Please do not let them say they only send them to troops who are in Iraq etc,  not on ships.  I stood my ground  and told them what our Sailors are doing is just as important. They sent it directly to me and then I sent it on... It maybe worth a try, as it is only a phone call, and many of your relatives may be Mason's... If you need more info,, friend me & I will try and help you.... Our Sailor had ATT with one of those fancy MAC I phones and the wanted $6.00 per minute, so we just suspended it.. Getting it put on hold was like getting an act of Congress tho, and as you all know these days that is not easy!! :-)  Take care & God Speed to all !!

  • ckmom

Thanks to all that responded back to me about the phones.   That was very helpful!!

He has his i phone just to listen to music and play games on it right now.

  • ckmom

CONGRATS     JOB WELL DONE!!!    You have to be one PROUD wife!!
  • Sailor's Mom

Our sailor passed the ESWS  a couple of weeks ago.... Later when they had the pinning ceremony, of course there was no one there to take pictures .... Figures!!  I do not think I will ever view a photo of our Sailor on this deployment...
  • siscarrie

That good news Kellie, fingers crossed for a pic of him!!
