Sandra that is the route my son took also.

  • ckmom

Sandra,  LOL  I know what you mean.

  • ckmom

Sandra, That's awful!!  I hope he has a better day or days ahead of him.

I thought they were going to get married over his leave?

  • Whodamom

Ugh Sandra. That sounds awful. It is tough enough without all the aggravation. Hope he works everything out. Thank God he has a Mom who can help him...like express mailing his Xbox cord, transferring $$$ and giving him lots of support.

  • jakesmom USS Bataan

Poor Guy Sandra, It is never fun to hear a heavy heart on the other end of the phone.  It will all get straightened out and he will end up having a great weekend!

  • siscarrie

Thats awful Sandra, hope he can get his money back. My son is feeling lonely since he got back, he really didn't want to leave home. Its weird but he had a back ache the whole time he was home and now since hes back in Norfolk it doesn't hurt. I guess he is used to the bed on the ship, lol.

  • ckmom

Siscarrie,   This deployment did my son in.  He was all gun hole about the Navy untill this long deployment, he also didn't want to leave home.    I hope since he's back and the ship is in dock, it will be better for him.

Sandra how is your son doing?  I hope he got his money back!

  • Whodamom

@Sandra - Is it possible for you to scan the insurance card and email it to him? Would they accept it? Also, for my own information, does the insurance have to be in his name or can it be in yours or the owner's (of the car) name? My son is considering driving my car back to use.

  • Janice

The insurance card does not have to be in his name to obtain a decal.  Just needs proof that the car is insured.  My son's insurance is still on my policy.

  • JustinsMom175

Does anyone's sailor have an off base apartment that is relatively cheap?
  • JustinsMom175

Sandra AM mom how much is the ppv? My son is on the bataan but is tired of staying on the ship lol. And also is wanting his gf to come stay with him but doesn't want to spend too much money. Does your son seem to like it?
  • Sailor's Mom

We still haven't gotten to see our sailor.. Is back in DC trying to get off base housing, taking tests, and settling into an new office, as I understand it..  Mom just doesn't get it? Maybe in April or May ( we hope) ! Hope all is well with every one.. Tired of just phone calls, but now at least I can call him, we have not seen him since last January... Think he is trying to tell us something? Only child syndrome in this family!  Take care all ! :-)

  • SanAntonioMom

Sailors mom, I know how you feel. I haven't seen my since Christmas before they left. He called twice while gone and emailed maybe 3 times . I knew from all of my Navy Mom friends that the ship was home. I am getting the hint from our only child also. I sent care packages every 3 weeks and never knew if they arrived. Being Moms should not be this way. Sadly , I felt I was the only one until I read your note. I love this group of friends.
  • Sailor's Mom

SanAntonioMom... I don't think we are the only ones... When I have had enough of "no communucations", I just let our Sailor "have it" via cell phone or email.. Does he have a cell phone, if so leave a message or e-mail and remind him who brought him into this world... I did that and the communications got better... Good Luck, he will come around eventually, also it depends on their age.... Our sailor is 28 and before he enlisted he was not living at home, so did not think it was important to check in...I then reminded him again, where he came from!! I have found great friends on here with more experince being an Navy Mom, or Wife, and they were great! Take care & Stay safe..

  • Mike's Mom

Hi everyone.  I am new to this group.  My son just joined the crew of the uss bataan last week.

  • jakesmom USS Bataan

Hello Mikes Mom, My son just joined the Bataan in December.  I am a bit of a new comer myself.  I am in Las Vegas.   What part of the country of you from?  What is your sons rate?

  • Whodamom

Welcome. My son has been on since July of 2011. He is lucky he missed the last deployment of almost 11 months. We hail from Long Island, New York.

  • ckmom

Welcome Mikes Mom  to our group! :-))

  • Mike's Mom

We are from Toledo, OH.  Mike is thrillled being on the Bataan.  Having a blast so far.  Glad he'll be on Norfolk, (12 hour drive from home). Thanks

  • siscarrie

  • JustinsMom175

Sandra anyone with a military ID can check you in.
  • ckmom

    Happy Easter!

My son is working today also.

  • Lynne

Happy Easter. My son got off this morning.

  • ckmom

    Your probably right, Sandra. lol

He has Watch tonight till 2am, then starting training tomorrow @ 6 in N.C.  Not very happy that he has to drive that everyday for 2 weeks.

  • ckmom

He did get an apartment on base or maybe you call it housing idk.  lol

I really don't know what he is going to school for, some kind of security  training.

  • ckmom

My son really likes his also, and so far no room mate. lol

  • Kim

anyone know when the bataan is going out to sea again?

  • siscarrie

Hi ladies!!! Some news about my son, he is planning on getting married this summer, i guess i'm ok with it. Anyways I need some advise on where he needs to look for an apartment, somewhere safe.

  • Kim

It sounds like he applied for Navy housing. It's much better than living on the ship. They give them what is called bah and that pays for there rent and everything included. Do you know when the Bataan will go on deployment.

  • Kim

Siscarrie, I would have him check into Navy housing. Norfolk isn't the safest place in town that is. The bases are safe.

  • ckmom

Siscarrie  Wow this summer Congatuations to both of you and family.  Where are they getting married, will it be on base?

Welcome allirish,  My son is living in the Navy Housing and really likes it.

Sandra AM, How are things going, haven't talked to ya in awhile.

About the Bataan going on deployment " I HOPE NOT FOR AWHILE YET"!!!

  • Kim

ckmom I feel the same way. I hope it doesn't go out either. My husbands next duty station may be in VA. He puts his orders in next month. He wants the Bataan. 6 more years and we are done, he will have his 20 years in.

  • ckmom

Sandra AM  Yes my son finished up his training yesterday and did very well. He will now be on a  reaction force team when he is on duty.  idk  You know they don't tell you any more than they have too.  LOL

Kim, Wow 6 more years that's awesome!!

  • siscarrie

Thanks everyone, Hes not sure where they are getting married, he said JP, but he has been going to a church there in Norfolk and i told him they would probably be more than happy to do a little ceremony for them. I will not beable to go. They plan on June 15th, and then she will come back here, and he will try to take leave in July so they can drive her truck back. I will tell him he may want to get navy housing.

  • Lynne

    Happy Mother's Day!!!!

  • shamar88

Just found out my son got his veral orders and will be stationed on the USS Bataan. So happy he is now gonna be so very close to home!!!
  • justme2007

Our family knows absoultely nothing about the Navy so thank God for this page. We are an Air Force family that goes back to my son's great grand-father being an Original Tuskegee Airman. We welcome the Navy with open arms since my son chose to be apart of the Navy. LOL I know nothing about rank, orders, set-up, travel, just nothing. Like the days when we moved to Germany and I had to learn German because we lived on the economy....just didn't know a thing.
