To those that have sons that dor'd today I wish them and their families the best of luck. I agree with all that has been said about how great these men are. It does not matter that they dor'd they are just plain amazing! To get this far is ...well.... amazing!!
Figured all the really good words have been spoken and I can not top them or the wonderful verses sent in the private msg.
Word for today is AMAZING! To all the Sailors and Sailor families......we are AMAZING!!! LOL
As a mom with a son who DOR's (from SWCC, but it's pretty much the same thing) I have experience with what happens after. PM me if you would like me to share what my sailor experienced (and me too)
For all the 283 men, "trust God and you will rise up on wings like eagles, run and not grow weary, walk and not fail. (very paraphrased from Isaiah) or GO MEN GO!! Moms having a hard time, just put one foot in front of the other and keep going. Send your son all of your positive prayers, thoughts and energy, it's the best you can do for him. AND take care of yourself cause he loves you!
Good morning all! I only got a txt since it was 1am my time. He said he was good and had fun on night maneuvers! Told him I raised a Wild man and he answered HOOYAH! Then the I love you mama which melts my heart every time I hear or read it.
I am sure that many did not want to call or txt that late at night. D knows I usually stay up late.
I am Praying for them all to be safe and sound! All they have to do is finish today and then rest a bit! HOOYAH!!
Hi all. Angie what can I say...once again well said. I think I will just start copy and pasting your comments. lol
LuLu glad your son is doing well. My son had a blast with night evolutions as well.
Talked to D this afternoon and he said they got off early and 2 of his buddies that have been med rolled were taking him out to dinner. He sounded so good. Thinks he has an ingrown toenail which a bummer. That can hurt. He is showing them he CAN run in the sand and did not need to be rolled!! HOOYAH D!!
LuLu are we friends? I am going to send you a request. Are you on fb? I would love to know if our sons are friends.
He also told me that another guy he was really close to and looked up to like a big brother (he is 29) dor'd. He was bummed that is buds area leaving.
Good luck to all our boys. May their futures be bright and successful!
Thanks for the ideas ladies. I will ask D what he wants to use. This is really good to know.
Thanks for the well wishes for D. They can all sure use them.
Angie thanks for the heads up.
LuLu.....sorry about calling your sweetie you son.....once a few yrs pass you might just feel like he is one! LOLLOLLOL
LuLu you guys have been together along time! D and his gf have been together almost 4 yrs. I keep telling her to get on this site and join the gf group. He will love all the goodies you are sending. That is really sweet. I would love to know his name and see if he and D know each other. Well I guess they all know each other but you know.
Crazy mom I agree this is way worse than basic for me!!
I like what your son said about his body is rough but mid is well!
I would love to be on the beach how exciting to see that. I want to go there so bad but I guess I won't.. boohoo for me.
Hooyah to all the guys and their families. Hope they all stay strong and healthy.
ellen you take care of yourself and I hope your surgery goes well. I do not remember what you are going in for...did you say?
Illi did you ever look me up on fb? I would love to get together after I get back from Charleston. Send me a msg if you don't mind. Thanks
My son use to like me to go to his testing with the Chief he said it made him push even harder. It made me feel good that he liked me being there. I never missed one. His chief was not a good one though. Very disappointing...neither was his recruiter.
Have a great night and I hope we all get good news soon. :)
Got a txt from D at 12am his time. Guess they worked them late yesterday. He said he was fine. I can't wait to hear his voice.....that is when I know how he really is.
Have a great day everyone!
my3sons,
Anything on Coronado will be expensive. (Just because they can!) I would get in touch with Grandpa. I don't know if he is retired military but he talked about staying at the Navy Lodge on Coronado. http://www.navyformoms.com/profiles/blogs/our-trip-to-coronado I don't know if your son can check you in. That would be your best option. Coronado Island isn't very big. It has a lot of old houses on it. (I wish I lived there!) And it even isn't an island, but rather a peninsula. But it does have a bridge over San Diego Bay, because the land route comes up from the south. Coronado Inn is on Orange Ave (that's the main street through town) Hotel Del Coronado is at 1500 Orange Ave and you can always go down there so you can see where they do rock stuff with the boats. It is open to the public. Hotel Del is on the way out of town if you are going south. There is the community center beyond that and some apartment style condo after that but not much else---except the Navy base. LOL The Navy base is on the north side and the south side of the "island".
ken you are so funny! I am glad I am going out of town this week so I don't sit and worry. Plus I will still be gone at the begging of HELL week. Oh my!!! How much more can parents take. I know I know a whole lot more is coming our way.
Angie we have missed you! Better check in on the RC soon.
Thanks grandpa (and grandma)! I am sure no one minds how long your post is! You, both of you, give us encouragement and advice that is truly needed.
I am praying for your boys this week! May they have the strength. courage and fortitude to embrace what ever their decision is!
Hooyah Too ate three!! (We've had a discussion about security in my group and decided not to use numbers any more so it won't show up when you google it. LOL)
Good luck, Prayers, Thoughts, Well Wishes, and Everything Positive and Good I can think of is with each and every one of you and your Awesome, Inspiring, and one of kind sons beginning tonight throughout this whole week!! Look forward to reading and following you and Congrats! (no matter what!) at the end.
Joshie's Mama, your post made me cry. No one understands how we feel during this week unles they have been there, or are going through it with their own son. Just know though, you will get through it. Keep checking this page just to reassure yourself that you have lots of friends (though many of us remain nameless to each other) holding your hand via the internet!
Can you believe you have made it through two nights? THe sun will be rising soon and warming the beaches! Hallelujah. I can only imagine how it feels to the guys to see that sun breaking through and knowing they have "survived" their second night. Just three more to go.... My son said they truly only think about the minute at hand, but I do believe that some times of the day had to feel "better" than others??? My thoughts and prayers are with all of you today.
I just went back and read all the posts for class 281 during HW. (begins around page 65). You will get through it!
Dear Father, Thank you for these wonderful families who are supporting each other and their boys through prayer and words. Thank you for the sunshine on the West Coast. Use it to warm the boys’ bodies and use your spirit to warm their minds and hearts. Provide strength when their arms feel like they are giving out... provide solid legs when they feel as if they can no longer support themselves. Keep their minds clear and awake throughout the day. As the sun is rising on the coast, lighten their hearts with the brightness of your love and wonder and the knowledge that they are beginning a new day. Keep them focused on the task at hand and the minute without looking ahead. Keep doubt and fear from their minds. When they are filling their bodies with food, fill their souls with warmth to last the day. Thank you for the officers and brownshirts who are watching over them.
“Psalm 84: 5-7 Blessed are those whose strength is in You…they go from strength to strength"
Thank you for this day and the strength you have given me.
In Jesus name, Amen
Friends.... It's Friday! Good luck today! I received my phone call around 2:30 on the East Coast several classes ago. It differs for every group. Also, as others start posting their phone calls, remember that some guys just fall asleep and don't call right away.Don't panic. I wanted to share several things. First off, be very general in your postings, no stats or numbers, or anything else like that!
It took my son weeks to get his full voice back so don't be surprised at the hoarseness of his voice. Try not to ask too many questions at first. Let them talk when ready. They are very well taken care of so don't waste your time worrying about them. My son called us, made it about 2 minutes into a conversation and then someone made him hang up and rest because he was falling asleep sitting and talking. THe Warrior ELite is very accurate in the description of how they feel and look. I remember someone telling me to let him talk when he was ready, and that night when he called back, I couldn't get him to quick talking. After a 45 minute conversation, when I tried to say goodbye, his comment was "Why do you want to hang up so bad?" I just laughed. I realized after Hell Week that my worrying about his health and him was putting a lot of extra stress on him. He finally shared that with me so I have learned to rephrase my questions in ways not to show my fears. Celebrate today, and then realize that they know the difficulties ahead. My love and prayers are with you and your "boys" today. My prayers and love are also with the families of the boys who chose another route. They too should be proud because just starting with BUDS is a major achievement.
Hooyah 2 8 3!
It's getting light out here on the west coast! Only a few more hours to go! I am so proud of all your boys, whether chose a different route or this one! They are exceptional young men!
Keep hanging in Moms (and Dads)... I have teared up all day remembering the emotions from this day. I have realized today why it is still so emotional for me. This is a first major ( and I do mean MAJOR) milestone that my son has achieved without me by his side when he finished. I'm not a helicopter mom, but I was always there during major achievements such as football championships, graduations, college graduations, etc. BUt this one, I was not to be included in, it was a private moment in his life that he shared with great new friends. A bittersweet moment for me, so proud and happy for him, yet deep down, wishing I could have seen it. Understand? Just reflecting outloud. I know it can't be, and shouldn't be, anyother way, but still a changing moment for a Mom. That is why I love typing to you all because we all are there together.
SO proud of all our guys! What a day today is. I just want to hug him so bad! He sounded so good and is healthy!! I am so thankful for that.
Thanks to everyone for all the kind words and support here. Don't know what I would have done with out all the knowledge that some have shared -thanks Grandpa- and many others.
A BIG HOOYAH to 2 8 3 !!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats to all! When your son is resting and talking, be sure to ask about the "ceremony" when they were declared secure. My son still speaks of that moment with such pride of self and country! No matter where the roads of life take him in years to come, I know that that moment is a defining time in his life.
Dear Father in Heaven, Thank you for the brown shirts of the week, the newbies and the older ones. You have blessed them with an inner strength for which I pray they will give you credit. You have blessed them with great role models in their lives who have encouraged them (moms and others) and you have blessed them with a passion that few can understand. Heal their bodies this weekend while they sleep. Ease the pain when they walk and the restlessness as they sleep. Thank you Dear Father for the path these "boys" have chosen. Bless them each tonight. Amen
OH Bears mom sorry he is still waiting. I sure do wish him well. D said he saw him the week before last. I hope he gets what he wants. What does he want? I hope things are going better for you as well. Your a great mama chin up lady!! (((HUGS)))
Illi D said he talked to your son the other day and told him we were going to lunch so I guess we had better plan it soon. LOL I will be back in town tomorrow so give me a call soon and we can plan it.
Have a great day all :) Hope the rest of this Phase goes smoothly....what am I saying....hope the rest of the training...period...goes smoothly!!
Bearsnavymom so glad he will have so many great adventures awaiting him!
What is he going to be doing?
I got my plane ticket and I will be seeing D the weekend of July 30th! I can't wait to get a big ole hug from him....it seems like forever since I have had one! I know I will see some of his friends but I only know last names so if you PM me and let me know I will try to do my best to see or at least ask about them.
I guess everything must be going well for everyone since it is quiet here. Talked to my Sailor yesterday and he said it was one tuff week. They were worked pretty hard!! I am going to go visit next weekend. Anyone have any suggestions as to where to eat or what to do??? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks
Goof morning. We got a call from sailor last night and he told us that two of the guys got jumped and beat up pretty bad off base. This is so sad that our men and woman are serving their country so we can all live in a free country and this is what jerks do. I am so sorry to start the day out this way.....I am just so mad. I sure hope those young men are ok and are able to continue on with their journey...1 guy is a lot worse than the other....I have no names just that little bit of info.
I hope you all have a good day and I will give air hugs and kisses to all your sailors while I am there this weekend!!!
CherylB... Thanks for that info on the guys. That sent chills down my spine, that someone would do something so terrible. Let's rememer them in our prayers, and pray that they can continue with this class. Keep us posted if you have any other information.
HI everyone. I was lucky to be with my son the weekend they did pool comps. Sounds like it was very hard. He passed...hooyah! CIngrats to all! I was also very pleased to make a nice steak dinner for 3 Sailors. They were very full and happy by the time they left our hotel! LOL They sure do have a beautiful place to do this training! Loved it. Hope you all are well take care!!!
Oh C'Smom goodbyes are the pits! So glad he is looking forward to joining the class again. Waiting can be so hard.
On to the next phase!!! HOOYAH to our guys!
I ordered the DVDs on Amazon. Cheap. We watched them all with D before he left...I asked him if he really wanted to do that it looks brutle and he said oh yeah it looks like fun! Crazy kid...he is still having fun! I was with him a couple of weeks ago and took them with me. He and his buddies watched HELL WEEK together and it was great hearing them talk about it They know one of the guys in the video. They wouldn't watch the Dive one since that is what they were doing at the time.
I had a wonderful week with my son! I dreaded saying good bye, but after listening to him all week, I realized how happy he is out there, knowing that made the goodbyes much much easier. He has many new friends and they support each other so much! I hated the weeks of no contact, but looking back, it did fly by. I only heard(read) the negatives about the time away, and not the positives. I know it seems tough and they get very tired, but there is a lot of laughter and they really enjoy it. They are actually learning skills that they will apply later. To have gotten this far, it is their passion. When you get anxious about your son, remember that and lift them up in prayer and you will survive!!!
