Thanks Kayzfam for the encouragement, I needed that. I am soooo happy for you! Congratulations to your sailor! I bet you are so excited. Have fun!
If you see a tall thin "body snatcher" (a person who walks around making sure sailors don't faint) that is my son. He is performing on 4/2 and 4/9 as well as on his PIR 4/16! Can't wait!
Deanna! WOW! ONLY ONE CALL!!!! well, I guess you're right no phone call can only mean good things. I just got the chills! He will do fine I know he will.
I know.. And one week no letter (he was really busy and had been sick) that was a hard week. You should have seen my last weekend (because in his letter he said "I might get to call this weekend!" No such luck :~( Hoping for a letter this week. I'm so anxious to hear what's going on with him.
I will look for a tall "Body Snatcher" too next week. If you want, PM me your last name and if I see him I'll take a picture to email you.
Hi! I am new to this group and I'm looking for anyone else who has a recruit in Ship 6 Div 926. My recruit arrived in Great Lakes on March 16th, but just started 1-1 this past Monday. I'm grateful to all of the other 900 division mom's for sharing so much information. About all I know about a 900 division is that it is a performance division.
Congratulations to all of you that your son's, daughters, husbands etc or assigned to the 900 Division. Remember your soldiers are outstanding or they would not be in this group. My son graduated as the band director in the graduation on March 12th, the most thrilling thing this soon to be 70 year old grandmother has ever experienced. Remember to write often as soon as you get their address..they really look forward to the letters.. most the time that is their only communication with the outside world. The training is tough but these guys cling together and do what they are suppose to do to survive and do good during this.... They will do good, no call is good... all is well... I pray Gods blessing on you all as your soldier is being made a new man......
I said my son, but I meant Grandson. This is my third grandchild in the service. A Grand-daughter in the navy assigned to the James E Williams nuclear fighter ship based out of Norfolk. She has already been on one tour to the middle east, and my oldest Grandson, in the US Coast Guards, finishing his 1st school after his A school, and several tours to the Gulf and Columbia area etc. He has been in over 1 1/2 years and my grand-daughter just finished her first year the day my last Grandson graduated on March 12th from Boot Camp in Great Lakes. Don't under understand all my grandchildren joining the military but it seems they are all joining... Another grandson that will graduate from high school in June plans on joining the Army. We tried to talk him out of the Army but his dad was in the army and he plans on joining the same... What an experience my grandchildren are having. I pray for their safety each and every day... Wow, how I love them....
My son is ship 06 division 925. Got a letter this week and he said he is in a perfoming division, with rifles and stuff. He was also selected as a section leader. Does anyone know what this means? And any ideas as to where he will be at PIR?
During the graduation exercise etc they have a special performance by the rifle division. They do different motions, there are a group of them all moving and holding the gun the same way with each movement... very nice and they are really good in their performance. This is in front of the whole audience as well as the head man that is there approving their graduation etc. it is really neat. They really perform.. Now they do have some outside that sound off the canons when the time comes...they do a salute with canons when the head man enters.. wish I could remember what they call him but I just can't right now.. but this is a very important part of the graduation. Your Son will enjoy this. Anyone in the 900 group is there because of their test grades and they are special young women or men. I have pictures that I will post to show you later on... but please join my face book where they will be posted. I am arlene robinson murrell on Facebook my email address is arlenemurrell@att.net. I am proud for you and your son... He will do great I know.
Cee Cee....I just got back from PIR. What it means for you...you won't be looking for a familiar face in a sea of recruits, your son will stand proudly in the front and do their rifles. It is pretty darn cool. My daughter carried our WA state flag so I always knew where she was and what she was doing. The 900 division is also the first group to march into the building together. I'm still on cloud 9:)
Congratulations all!! My son's PIR is a week from today (4/9) Please tell this anxious mom, "How was the band?" And.. "Did anyone get any pictures of the band?" <--- Can you guess.. he's in the band! (and they perform at a few PIR's before theirs. I'm so excited, anxious, proud and ... EVERYTHING.. I can't wait to be in GL next week!
Congratulations again to all the recent graduates, new moms/family members that have 900 DIV SR (seaman recruits) and all of us with upcoming PIR's!! < giggles and cheers > Oh man, I can't wait to wrap my arms around his neck and give him a huge hug!
If you do have pics or want to tell me something about the band performance and don't want to put it here, please send me private message.. I can send you my email address!!
just sitting this morning thinking about that day March 12th when my grandson walked out leading the band on his graduation day. It was such an exciting day. These recruits work so hard, it is more than any of us can even imagine in order to get to this point. And believe me if yours are in boot camp at this time... they will make it. Yes, it is exciting there is so much joy on this day... and believe me, I held up with few tears till they called liberty and our recruit were now sailors and my grandson started across the floor to meet up with us. I could not get down the bleachers very fast but by the time I got there...believe me I was not just tearing, I was sobbing uncontrollable. My grandson put his arms around me hugging me, saying MeeMaw its okay, its okay.. It took me a few minutes to stop the sobbing.. I thought I was going to do good and hold it all together and her I went... but I did get myself together, my pictures that I posted on facebook, you can see my face discolored, but It was the most wonderful feeling I had in my life, I was actually holding my grandson and I did not want to turn him loose. He looked wonderful, and I was so proud...but my heart was broken, and it still is not a lot better... I was and am so proud of him but I want him home.. Someway I have to come with grips that this is his decision. Thank God that he has enough feelings for his MeeMaw that he understands the way I feel. As for now he is calling often, Sunday everyone was trying to call him and was getting busy signal (this was where all my children and grand-children had met at one of my grand-daughters home for dinner and egg hunt and everyone was there) but they were getting a busy signal and I looked down at my phone and he was trying to call me.. How honored I felt. Well when he dials my cell phone the Navy song starts playing.. I love it. Everyone enjoyed his call... he then talked to everyone.. I was sitting on Easter Sunday with nothing to do... said he was kinda bored. But anyway, I don;t know how it will be in the future but I am having to deal with my feelings.. for I really do not like him being away. But he does share with me what he is doing and lets me know when he leaves base and when he gets back he texts me or calls me to let me know he is back... He has enough feeling that he is trying to help me deal with his not being home. He has done a lot including Skydived and took video which I have not looked at yet, got a tattoo that he had drawn on his arm, which his short sleeve shirt does cover it, (a cross with something about Navy on it). I am so proud of him but I must get better about him being away... since he has been going, I have had to sit in the doctors office, my blood pressure skyrocketed and then my heart is beating abnormal..on lots of medicines that I have never had to take before in my life time. Will turn 70 next monday... they children are having me a big birthday party on Sunday... can't beliieve who all is coming... they are trying to surprise me with it... but my husband talks loud and I hear his conversation with him leaving the room so he is not talking in front of me etc.. cute and funny. about 60 people will be here...what a birthday I will have but my grandchildren in the service will be missed. My grand-daughter left week before last for the seas but maybe not far is suppose to be back soon. but will not get back home for a year...But my grandson in the Coast Guards will be home on the 16 or 17 of this month, just finishing another school not A school but the next school and he will be headed to California too... I guess I will be headed to California soon. My son is getting me a ticket and my grand-son said he will get me a room at the Navy motel on base or something... but I don't want to go too soon for both my grandsons should be in San Diego within a few months.. I love them so much... Now that you have heard how this grandmother feels... I do hope you all do better. Tears feel my eyes but my heart is proud, but sad for I don't like my grandchildren away. Three is service is enough but yet, one more is fixing to join in June (the Army).... so we will see...But remember as I started off, you child is going to do well. Be proud they are in the 900 division... they will enjoy it and you will be proud on that graduation day... Can you imagine, mine was leading the band... came out before anyone else... how proud I am of him and so thankful that he loves me enough to try to help me deal with them gone etc.
navymommike 1, our daughter is in Ship 6 Div.927 May 21. We are hoping to get our first full letter from her today/tomorrow. Have you heard from your son?
Navymommike and Jules, I remember those days. I swear I was just coming here and writing those same posts.. You will find so much great information here. (don't worry that it all feels overwhelming and like SO much info at first). The Chat group is a great place to 'meet' family members of both active duty sailors as well as those with recruits currently at bootcamp. Be sure to join your PIR Discusssion Groups too.
Now, my son has just finished his battle stations 21 (their final 12 hour test before becoming a Sailor) and now I sit here staring at my phone, trying to distract myself waiting for him to call to say "I'm a Sailor!".
We fly out Thursday for his PIR (pass in review/graduation) Friday! He's in the band and I can't wait to celebrate this 'ultimate band concert' with him! ha! ha! Hang in there. The days feel like they're not moving forward and then all of the sudden they start flying by! I promise!!
Congraulations to you (and all the family of) 900 Division Recruits/Sailors!!
Proud Mom of a U.S. Navy Sailor (as of 1 hour ago!!) Ship 06/Div 921!!
JULES...hi .
We got a 3 page letter and a phone call (that was for some paperwork, but we did chat for 2 minutes:). Ship 6 div 927 is doing great. My son is so impressed with the recruits in his division. They are studing hard and are adjusting. Alot of cleaning and getting in line. but all is good. I hope I get anoter letter this Thursday. Being in he 900 is a special group of men and women.
I received my first letter on a Thursday but after that first week, sometimes it was Friday. I loved getting my letters but most of all enjoyed the calls. you just never know when to look for the calls... they just did not come often enough. I am so glad that now he can call often.. I actually talk with him almost every day... if not by phone he texts me. I love my grandchildren so much.
Thank you emma 0077, yesterday was a rough day for me but it is just me. my grandson called me after his work, he is now just doing what ever they need him to do cleaning type work till his school starts. It still will not start for a couple months probably they have not set a date yet.. but they told him that he probably will not have any time for days off between this particular school and the next one he has to start. What I am saying he has not started his A school yet... after A school they generally have a couple weeks off..but he will not get that... now he mentioned that he could probably come home in a couple of weeks but if he does that then it will be a long time before he can come again. He will be in school for a long time is my understanding. His A school is 8 weeks but the next school is twice that long or longer... He had mentioned that he would be in school for at least 1 1/2 years etc. so I don't know. He is studying to be a Sunar Tech. So I don't know exactly what this all is but it is a security job... I guess it is good for at least he will be on land for that much longer but I believe when they do leave out they are gone for longer times. I have got to deal with my feelings... But who knows... what will be happening in this length of time.. I just pray that God will look after him and protect him and put him where God wants him to be, and then I have to accept that..... it is tough. But you know it is going to be great for him and that is what is important.
my son performed today. The last letter i got from him said that his first PIR performance went smooth and that the band was the real show stealer. when they called liberty, itwas wild!. I cant wait to get my "i'm a sailor" call! hopfully monday.
Emma, it is amazing. Did he perform at the 4/2 PIR? I have pictures from there but the lighting is so bad that you can't really see very well. I have links to videos on my facebook page of the band and the flags. I will send you my email to do a facebook search.
Mom's with Div 921 Sailors that just graduated 4/9 and any that have recruits with upcoming graduations, (that are in band) watch my video.. You might see your recruit!! I have a few more clips from the graduation (and some pics of the flags) I'll post this weekend!
I know I am asking a little soon, but does anyone have a video or pictures of the band from today's PIR? My daughter told us this is her first performance, and I would love to catch a glimpse of her. :) Thanks in advance.
Battle Station last night, don't worry if it is late. for when my grandson went through it started on a Monday morning, I think it started that morning but they went through it all night and the next day.. I was evening time when he finally called and he was able to talk over a hour... He was so tired, but so excited. He called his mom and she called everyone she could on 3 way talking to him... I will never forget that call... Congratulations on all the soldiers that are in this group... they have worked hard... it is unbelievable what they go through to become a soldier....
Christine! I so missed you ((((((hugs))))). FYI....I mailed several 1040s at 6:00 PM on 4/15 - LOL
baseballelmo My son's division also won Captains Cup. The division had the following benefits: longer phone call and longer Liberty days on PIR weekend. This was his experience - it all depends on the RDC. Congratulations to him! You too Mom! : ) ~ kk
Here's a video I recorded of the 4/9 PIR - Div 921!! 900 Divisions also are rifle, flags, choir, and ushers "people catchers". Depends, I don't think every graduating class has a "Triple Threat" 900 Div.. That is Band, Choir and Rifles.
My grandson was in division 900 and graduated from boot camp on March 12th, 2010. How proud we were of him. He had high test scores in joining and then was asked about playing musical instruments etc. He had played in school, several different instruments but was not real good at either of them but they asked him to be the band director, which he was. It was so thrilling to see him come through those doors ahead of the band with his wand in hand. It was the most exciting time I ever spent, other than the day he was born and the nurse handed him to his dad and his dad was scared and just handed him right over to me, he then bonded to me...what a thrill it was, but then seeing him become the man he is today. In his A school, will graduate around June 24th or close to that date... He will join my grand-daughter on the James E Williams Nuclear fighter ship after he takes 2 weeks leave...all this is like a dream. Two grandchildren on the same ship. (they are cousins). Three of my children have one in the service.... God bless them all is my prayers. This is hard for my children....but it is really hard on this old 70 year old grandmother. I love them so much...I am so proud of them all. 17 grandchildren...wow!!!!!
We got a letter yesterday. My son is designing the division flag and the rough sketch has Triple Threat on it. Now I understand what that means. They are REALLY busy preparing for Hell week and last we they had a great week on the Marlinspike. He said it is hard to write on Sunday since they are a preforming group and that they are having 2 tests next week. He sounded pumped up for Hell week....
The performance group does all that regular bootcampers do, plus all the marching and practice for the ceremony. I'm so excited for you Patty. It is amazing to be there. They are the very first group to march in too. I didn't even realize it was them, but the doors opened and they marched in like all the other groups do later. Watch for him then:)
Hey there- My coworker is prior Navy. She says the 900 is referred to as SMART because of all the extra stuff they have to learn on top of the regular Boot Camp. They carry flags, band and chior and it's REALLY cool.
She is happy to hear we have our sons and daughters in thsi division. and she says COngrats on that!.
Would love to hear from other Moms who have someone in the Ship 6 Division 931 -My son Chase is at Boot Camp and scheduled to graduate June 18th-I keep reading a lot of different things about tests and battle stations and I am not familiar with the lingo can someone point me in the correct direction?
