Thank you ! We are very excited and PROUD! He just finished EMT portion. He found it difficult because of the amount of material covered in one week. Also, he would second guess himself on tests. I teach high school and see students doing this often. They will get anxious and change the correct answer to an incorrect one. :/ My son said that on the EMT tests it was not a choice among right or wrong, but a choice of the "best" answer. Ugh...glad that part is over!

Mrs.SeniorChief....My son is graduating soon and is on the deans list. The text book is always changing and the corpsman guide is helpful but things are always being added. My sons advice was to study hard.  Every night. Set aside hours (two -four) every single night including weekends to study. Obviously sometimes it won't be possible because he'll have watch but whenever possible keep to this schedule. The amount of info they have to learn is staggering.  The EMT and then RN training, then clinicals is hard. My son would go out to midday movie showings on the weekends ( just to stay sane) so that he could keep to his study schedule at night after chow. It paid off. :)

  • dianevdb

Mrs Senior Chief.. The SRs cannot use any other books, so it is not advisable. Sometimes it helps the moms understand the course so we might be good listeners though.

I think my son might be moving to a different room/building tomorrow like your son. He just got settled!

  • Britt<3Corpsman Wife

I wouldn't suggest getting a book for your sailor to read while waiting to class up. You don't want them to burn out before classes even start. As long as they study and apply themselves they should do fine. My husband is almost done with EMT and he rarely studies in the evenings or on weekends and he has a pretty high grade so far. But it depends on what type of learner the student is. If my husband reads something once he keeps that knowledge for a long time, I on the other hand need to have something repeated over and over. Everyone is different :) I suggest to study, study, study!

Robert/HM mom - I found your daughter at graduation and will send you the pictures via pm.  I also have the entire class video'd so you can find your daughter in that too.  I will post the video in the discussion area above, once I make it back to Colorado. (I need to post it to YouTube since it is so huge...)

  • DramaSoul

    Craig...how was graduation???

  • Craig

It was pretty cool.  Got some awesome pictures.

A good friend gave me the copy of the script that his sailors and airmen have to follow the day before, so I knew exactly the game plan. The sailor one is on the M16 photo in my 1st picture, glad he gave me the AF one since that is no where to be found in that building (since it's really dedicated to the Navy only).

  • Craig

Drama - The photos and the details of the Corpsmen are listed above in the discussion area.

I have a lot of other stuff too, I just haven't had time to post it.  I might have some more time tomorrow....

  • Maria ( 9/132 - HM- 04-2011)

Why would they move those already in fralish? When my son was in a school last year all a. school students went to fralish abd when he finished they moved him to another hall fir c school.
  • DramaSoul

My son was in Janke Hall in A school.  So is this moving something they do periodically just because?

  • Maria ( 9/132 - HM- 04-2011)

Drama, my son said that while in c school they were not as strict (expect for the studying part) as in a school maybe they want to go back to having all a school together.
  • alexcmom

NavyGirlzMom... my son said the same thing. Apparently incoming were getting info from those who have been there for a long time. Thus, today is moving day! And, he leaves in two weeks,so I am getting all his stuff in the mail. :)

Does anyone have a salior from pir 6/29 in san antonio for A Hospital Corpsman) school.   He was Ship 12/ Div 204  And I was wondering how the Graduation was for  A school does anyone Know?????

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Same thing happened to my son's group (moving barracks) when Hospital Corps School was in Great Lakes - in January, in the snow, to a barracks with less than great heat.  Somehow they all survived :)

  • Craig

It is with the deepest sadness and sorrow that I announce that we lost an HM "A" school sailor last night.

Prays to the family that God will give them the strength and comfort to help them through these rough days ahead.  As parents, we too, grieve as parents and family members for this tragic event.

HM "C", my prayers to you expecially.   God has you in his keeping. We have you in our hearts. Peace be with you...

  • mikes mom

It is always so difficult to see that we lost another precious soul.. My thought and prayers go to the family .
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Peace, prayers and blessings for our sailor and his loved ones....

  • Curleytop

Everyone said A school would be better.  Now this.  I cannot understand it.  What possible training could put our sailors in that much danger?

    God's peace for the family.

  • DramaSoul

Oh, my.  Sending prayers to this family and for their friends as well as the Sailor's friends. This is something I cannot imagine.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

@Curleytop, it could have been an accident of some kind, traffic accident, ours not to speculate at this time...there was such an accident involving the train at GL just a couple of years ago.

  • Craig

    Drama - Check your messages....

  • OKCsuzieq

@Craig thank you!  My heat is heavy and sending love and prayers to this sailor's family and friends.  I checked on my sailor son and he seemed ok but I'm still concerned how this will affect all of the sailors in this group.  Hugs to all the sailor families out there tonight!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Out of concern for all, please let's respect what has happened and cease discussion of the details on this public board for now, except for expressing our condolences.....thanks...so tragic.

  • dianevdb

This is such a shock, God be with the parents and family.

  • Craig

    Drama and anyone else -

I need to respect Marcy wishes, so I will deleted my post......

I really need to vent right now to someone because I am sooooo pissed about this subject.  So if you have thick skin and would like to discuss this more, go to this closed group:

    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/craig-needs-to-vent

If nothing else, please talk to your sailors.  Let them know you are thinking of them.

Hello! welcome moms and dads to the world of Ma Navy! My son is now out of the Navy after 8 years...he ended up in San Antonio (only 80 miles from home!), as an instructor for Combat Medical Techniques at Camp Bullis, after most of his Navy career as a greenside FMF corpsman. He's bought a home with his VA, going to school on his GI Bill, and is moving on with his life. There is a future!

NavyForMoms did not exist until he was out of A School in the Great Lakes, but I was one of the first on here, and I've made some great friends. That said, I want to share a couple of things with you all...this is a post I just shared on our Corpsman Mom's Board:

Every so often on a board like this one, there are those who feel the need to share every bit of information that they hear from their  sailor son or daughter. This is how rumors start, worry builds and conflicts arise...but most importantly, it is against OPSEC regs. When your adult child shares an activity, a story, his/her experiences, please remember, he/she is sharing  this info with his mom and dad...and he/she trusts you to keep it confidential. Some things may be part of an active investigation by the Navy, some, sadly, may need to be shared with a sailor's next of kin....and that mom or dad does not need to learn about it from an internet message board. I can't even imagine the needless pain, worry and fear that a family goes through waiting to hear or confirm a rumor. Because, until the USN releases any information or confirmation, that is what it is... a rumor.

Remember, no dates/places of arrivals/departures. No real addresses or specfic location of your sailor or anyone else's...no info. Yes we know it's on facebook or other social media...the military is working to control that, but the old rule applies: LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS.  Don't let them be yours. If you have doubts, message the admin of N4M to ask.

It's also important to remember that you're meeting people online, not in person. You may meet the mom of someone serving with your child, and that's great...but remember, your son/daughter may not be as fond of that mom's sailor as you are of the mom. Watch what you share. Be the mom you've always been, the one your kid can trust to keep a secret.

I post similar posts like this occasionally when there is a new group of moms. OPSEC regs are important.

And the last thing? Ma Navy is in charge now. Your kid is an adult, learning a very adult job and will be a military professional. Give the respect they deserve to their confidental discussions with you. You're just at the start of a long journey. You think you're proud now? just wait!! Good luck."

    TDM - Well said

I met TDM 3 1/2 years ago when I first joined N4Ms .. She helped me through a very difficult time in my life ( as well as a few others in N4Ms ) ... We should always remember OPSEC, and always the safety of our Sailors...

  • DramaSoul

Thanks to all of your knowledge and perspective TDM, Marcy, Craig.  Thanks to all of you.

  • TexasDocMom

Hi, DramaSoul! is your sailor currently in A school? weather getting ready to turn cool (well, cool for here in Central Texas, anyway) for a few days, hope he/she enjoys it!

  • DramaSoul

TDM....my Sailor is at Camp Pendleton going through FMTB.  He is really doing well.  He graduated from Ft. Sam in July.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

    Welcome cyndyj!

  • littleturtle92 daniels mom

My Corpsman will start C school on 12th. What is to be expected? What kind of classes will he have? I will he have a degree when he is finished with c school ?

  • TexasDocMom

What C School is he entering? there are dozens..if you go to our Corpsman's moms groups, there's links there to more information on those. And no, unless he pursues the civilian college courses needed for civilian certification, there is no guarantee he will come out with a degree. It really depends on which school he's entering. The President did put into play, earlier this year, a program that helps veterans earn civilian certification and challenge college courses for credit to make that easier.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

I've been adding more links to information in the section at the top of the page.  There's a lot to learn about the HM rate and these should help the process :)

  • Craig

I hate to be on my soapbox today, but after reading about all the discipline problems with the Ga Bulldogs – (and they are not alone in the college world when it comes to behavior issues) I got to thinking. I spent 20 years in the Navy. For at least 14 of those years, I was in some type of leadership position. The last 10 years I was blessed to have responsibility in one way or another for 50 – 80 Sailors at a time. So out of those 50 – 80 Sailors over the course of those 10 years I had zero Sailors convicted of felonies, zero Sailors arrested for possession of any drug, and zero Sailors arrested for domestic violence. It doesn’t speak to my leadership – it speaks to the character of the young men and women who serve our country. Most of these young men and women are the same age as the college players I am watching today. To your sailor - I say – I am glad you joined my old team. Thank you for the class, dignity, and character in which you serve our nation.

  • DramaSoul

Marcy...thanks for all of the great information.

    Craig..two thumbs up.

  • TexasDocMom

Were you a corpsman, Craig? or probably one of your children ? are they stationed stateside?

Molly from Molly Adopt A Sailor posted this this morning...if you aren't familar with Molly's group, she started way back when we N4M first started, grown from one sailor adoptee to now adopting whole combat hospitals and ships around the globe. As you adapt to being a Navy mom from a total in control mom (which was tough for me!), this is a great way to spend your time, and meet other moms and folks who support our troops around the world.  But anyway, this brought tears to my eyes...:

Molly here ~~ Sunday Story time !!
I have spent countless hours in a post office sending the boxes, and it is always a unique experience, it is a spectacle that I look a bit crazy with anywhere from 17 to 55 boxes on carts with me monthly :) So not much happens at the post office that is unique to me. BUT yesterday I

had one of the nicest experiences ever ~ I am standing in line with my cart and the young man in front of me says " military boxes?" I say yes they are, I look at his box and say ?Military box ? He says yes ---they are for my friends who are in A-stan, I was there with them last time and I know what it is like. He has a large box packed with nothing but non melting candy. We chat and chat a bit and its his turn. I see that the PO Lady explains to him about the custom form he needs filled out and he also needs to tape the box up. Then it is my turn and I proceed to go up and start the shipping event. The young man comes over to the area I am in and says I have the wrong box this box is 44.00 to ship. I explain oh yes use this box, I watch as he starts to struggle to pack all the things from the large box into the flat rate ---so I say "May I help you ?" He watches as I pack and repack to get all his candy tight into the flat rate, he keeps saying "man you can really pack a box" I tell him, oh you should see some of these moms and the amount of things they can get into a box. (lol) I help him tape it and put the addy on it , then I turn and say no problem I got this and take his box and hand it to the lady doing MAS boxes. A tear starts to come to his eyes a bit as he says *Really?* I say sure --its going to deployed military , from a new veteran, you have paid your dues , we can get this. The post office lady is in tears ----- the young man and I hug I give him my email and number and say anytime you want to pack boxes I would love the help. So guess who is going to start packing boxes with us :) YEP our new Veteran !!!! Happy Sunday everyone ~~"
  • DramaSoul

TDM....I did some packing with Molly this month.  I can't wait to meet this new veteran!

  • Craig

TDM - I actually know Molly.  I totally believe in her project.  I met her while she was here in Colorado on yet another packing project.  She is just an awesome lady.  We do a packing party about once every 4 months here.  Anyone that hasn't been to one is truly in for a treat because not only do the parents, spouses, and GF/BF get involve, so do the deppers.

I was not a corpsman, but I basically hung out with all the corpsman. I have 5 active military in my family, one of which is a Corpsman.  I've been hanging out with HM's my whole career.  The reason? If you ever notice, out of all the ratings in the Navy, the HM, SH, and CS ratings have the most Asian.  Not because it was the largest ratings, but because the US Navy was the only military service to allowed Filipino who were non-US citizens, non-green card holders, to join. They had no connection to the U.S. at all.  The Navy let them join but they could only join those ratings.  Since our family is Asian, I spend a lot of time with HM's. Almost every other weekend.  We have so many parties it  and we have a lot of fun.  I know the HM rating really well.

Again, I hope everyone supports Molly's group.  She is one awesome lady!

  • TexasDocMom

Yes, Molly is an amazing woman...and has such great support! Kudos to Marcy for being August's Mom of the Month and all the hard work she did for the 650 deployed junior enlisted (E4 and below) aboard USS Iwo Jima.  They're halfway through an eight-month deployment with the Fifth Fleet in areas of the Middle East, Africa and Europe.  Hope she got some support from the moms on this page, it's tough work drumming up the funds and getting those packages done.

Craig, what was your rank in the Navy? what did you do? just curious...I'm a Navy brat, my dad was 30 years in before his retirement when I was 2.  Grew up in a Navy town, with a Marine brother. As a child, I guess I always thought those guys treating us at the base were doctors, turns out they were guys just like my son! So, then, you haven't had a son/daughter/niece/nephew/spouse go through A School? it changes pretty often, especially since the new set up in SA, I'm glad to see there are moms on here with kids actually in training to keep the new moms up on all the current news and changes. We had Inga, whose daughter taught many of our our corpsmen in the A school in GL for several years, so that was a huge source of information for how things were there, and up to date on any changes. Inga's daughter is now greenside, just earned her FMF and is deployed to A-Stan. My son was an instructor in SA, but not at the A School. He'll still hunt down answers for us if I ask him, because he knows how much support these groups give to moms (like his!) and because he still lives in SA and in contact with his buddies still enlisted. Like many of our sailors, he's been known to come lurk on the boards, and has a tendency to let me know if OPSEC isn't being followed, or if he thinks there's something out of whack...those sailors get pretty protective, don't they?

  • Craig

TDM - Just so we don't clog up the boards here, I opened a discussion above.  Come on up and talk with me.  Kind of curious if you were on my website forum since you are Navy forum veteran when Molly started.

  • Craig

TDM - Actually, let me pm you.  I don't want the top section clogged up either....

  • TexasDocMom

I really don't like to carry on conversations secretly, Craig...anything I have to say can be said in the public area. I don't have secrets. I'm really not comfortable with a pm, thanks.

  • Craig

Ok, I find that strange because I have so many people talk to me privately about all type of subjects.  Since everything is open.  Just kind of curious where your son is stationed?  I'm kind of curious if I may know some active duty sailor from that base.  It would be good to see some if some the sailors I have on my website know him.  It would be a good connection showing that they are part of a huge bigger family.  Do tell...
