TDM - Just so we don't clog up the boards here, I opened a discussion above.  Come on up and talk with me.  Kind of curious if you were on my website forum since you are Navy forum veteran when Molly started.

  • Craig

TDM - Actually, let me pm you.  I don't want the top section clogged up either....

  • TexasDocMom

I really don't like to carry on conversations secretly, Craig...anything I have to say can be said in the public area. I don't have secrets. I'm really not comfortable with a pm, thanks.

  • Craig

Ok, I find that strange because I have so many people talk to me privately about all type of subjects.  Since everything is open.  Just kind of curious where your son is stationed?  I'm kind of curious if I may know some active duty sailor from that base.  It would be good to see some if some the sailors I have on my website know him.  It would be a good connection showing that they are part of a huge bigger family.  Do tell...

  • TexasDocMom

As I said in my first post, my son left the Navy in Feb, after 8 years.

I have no interest in talking with you privately, Craig, I'm not interested in being in your clique, or buying your coins. I'm interested in making sure that new moms coming to this web site are not being manipulated or harassed. I find your attitude towards women demeaning on one level, possibly illegal on a federal website on another... and your choice of "jokes"  somewhat slimy.

I also find it interesting as I read back into these pages how your story changes from day to day.

Your lecture to me on OPSEC  was somewhat amusing. Especially since the reason I was drawn into reading this page was when you started the rumor about the tragedy of a lost sailor...with just enough information to put fear in the hearts of any mom that read it who might have a kid there. Is that when they are all supposed to run to you for support...and then you can be the hero? That's called  manipulation, and you seem quite good at it. How many do you have in that little secret group, following your every word?

Too bad you felt it necessary to delete the conversation you started in the discussion area, but the whole message is in my notifications. And no, I was not on any of your web sites. I've heard about them, though. Not enough there to keep you busy so you come here to get your attention? or try to drive your hits on your own web sites? or sell those coins?

  • Britt<3Corpsman Wife

I'm needing a little bit of help.... I am trying to do some research on "C" schools for the HM rating. My husband really wants a "C" school so he can specialize in something. I think he is too old to go FMF (he is 32). I have done all kinds of google searches and can't really come up with anything. The information that I am looking for is where the C schools are located and how long each course is. Does anyone have a link or specific wording I can use to do a search? Thanks!

  • Craig

TDM - That's cool TDM.  I'm totally understand that the world is different place for everyone.  God put all different types of people on this earth for a reason.  What you don't enjoy, others do.  That is what's great with the USA.  We have that right.

Rumor about a sailor?  It happened...the CACO already informed the family.  The Navy does have grievance counselors on base to help those that need it.  These sailors need to talk to someone, anyone, that will listen.  Some sailors don't talk well with grievance counselor, sometimes they need someone else.  As parents this is when we let them know that we are proud of them, and that we want only the best for them.  If they have a problem, their problem is also our problem.  You have been there their whole life.  Out of everyone, the parent knows the best on how their sailor works.  Why hide the facts.  Help them immediately.  If my son or daughter needed someone to talk to, I would be their immediately.  Heck, I would fly there.  That's how much I care for my children.

Here is the Navy's policy and advise.

    http://www.stripes.com/news/navy/navy-sets-september-as-suicide-pre...

and (just scroll though all the sections)

    http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/support/suicide_prevention/Pa...

My only problem is I don't sugarcoat things.  Sailors work with fact. If the CO ask you a question, you better not BS them or you're history.  I provide advise, backed by Navy instructions, and let the parents understand it.  You can argue with the black & white facts.

I just think is funny how you can constantly post about another service members that pass. Why do you do that?  Why not hide it like you're trying to do to this sailor?  This sailor needs to have flowers at his funeral, and I took the time to find a flower shop on base and donated money. It's how I roll.  I care for shipmates.  I hope others will also donate too just so the family knows that we do care here at N4M's.   I haven't seen in any of your post that you wanted to buy flowers for the service member that has passed.  To me, the family needs this.  They need to know that we do care.

Per the OPSEC, Have you read what OPSEC is, and what it isn't?   You really need to read the rules.  I did delete my post because I didn't want to call you out for not knowing the rules. I didn't want people to see that when you post about OPSEC that you really don't know it.  I thought it would be much better in a private chat, which I am still willing to do.  Please take the time to read about OPSEC like you said, it's in the notification.  I hope everyone reads it.

Again, I would love to talk to you more, add me, then delete me after our discussion. You can always cut and paste our conversation if you need support from others in answering any of my topics.

But lets not clog up these boards... The families are here to find answers and not here the rambling of two people that don't agree.

  • TexasDocMom

Check the METC website, look under programs: METC San Antonio There is also an online hot line to ask questions plus a phone number.

  • Craig

Britt - You're the people I like helping and don't want your post lost in the rambling. You can find the different "C" school for HM's by going to this link:

    http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/nec/NECOSVolII/Docu...

Just do a "Ctrl-F" and seach for 8401.  There are others in the 87xx series too.  Some of the FMF is in another area, but I'm not sure which one off hand....

  • TexasDocMom

Craig, let's understand one thing. Your opinion on anything doesn't matter to me. I believe you need to keep to your little web site, and not come to a federally sponsored web site to harass and intimidate Navy moms.  This is not your private domain. I understand you have declared it your " own little corner of cyber space"...but I'm sure the federal government might have a different thought on that.

Let's be clear. I'm not the  only one who feels this way.  My message box is popping with moms thanking me for speaking up. I encourage all members who, at any time, by any one, has had  rude, intimidating, sexually explicit or had any  inappropriate behavior directed towards them or  toward any one else on this board to make a screen shot of those posts and report it to Colleen, the NavyForMoms Admin. If you can't make a screen shot, simply tell Colleen where the posts are.  I understand from the moms I've heard from recently that Craig posts "all over" this site. If he has tried to sell anything on this site, that is illegal.

This web site is for the support of Navy moms and dads. Stalkers, predators and sales men/women are not allowed to prey on its members.

  • Craig

TDM - What part of "lets not clog up these boards... The families are here to find answers and not here the rambling of two people that don't agree" don't you understand?

If you have a problem, be a grown-up and discuss it off line. I have extended that olive branch to you.

  • Britt<3Corpsman Wife

All I have to say is WOW! Some of you ladies need to put your big girl panties on. You seriously need to grow up. We are here for support not to have Mom's try to one up each other and try to intimidate all the newbies. You all give valuable information... some more than others. If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.
  • TexasDocMom

Craig...not one of those under your control...I know that's frustrating for you, but we'll just let the admins sort it out.

  • KaylaRae

I agree with Britt..... Shit this group gets worse than the GF/Wives/Fiance group and I did not think that was possible. TDM, Craig only asked you to go PM because your post are so damn long and he didn't want to take up a lot of room and he just seemed curious about you and your son. If there is something you like than don't read it, simple as that. Or as Britt said, "If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all".

  • KaylaRae

txbabydocmom, I think it would be neat to make a discussion up top about C schools, I know my bf is at FMTB but I am curious about all the C school stuff just for future... I am pretty good at google but google has been failing me when it comes to C school :) Or I can PM you if you would prefer that... I am just curious about all of it.

  • Hm-in-the-Fam-Mom

TDM-Bravo Zulu and well stated. You can find my input in your inbox :( people here seem to blackball you for having a certain opinion .
  • Craig

    Hey all,

This is free and it's great for your sailors!

    Book mark it for later

Since a lot of your sailors will be traveling once they complete their schooling.  Here is a great deal that every sailor should take advantage of.  It's a great way of seeing the country. When they come home on leave, you get the benefit to join them too.

It's called the "America The Beautiful - The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass"

Active-duty troops and their families can get a free military version of the America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands Annual Pass. Part of the White House’s Joining Forces initiative, the pass costs $80 for civilians.

The pass is accepted at all sites run by the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers locations.

Better yet, friends can come along for free, too. The pass is good for any accompanying passengers in areas that charge per vehicle; or the pass owner and up to an additional three adults at sites that charge per person.

You can pick one up at any national park or wildlife refuge that normally charges an entrance fee.

Just in case you didn't see the hyperlink above.

  • Jenn(RJs Mom) Ship 09 Div 273

Ok well I joined this group because my son whos PIR was 8/31/2012 is now off to A-school at Ft Sam Houston. I thought maybe I could obtain some information and share information with fellow moms/dads/lovedones on what to expect in A-school , classing up, accomodations, what phases mean etc. This site seems to be a lot of the opposite. Well atleast this comment wall seems to be. SO with that said... are we all here for the same purpose ? Are we all fellow Moms/ Dads and Loved ones of A-school Corpsman at Ft Sam Houston? If not then people probably shouldnt be arguing over silly matters and maybe remove themselves from the group?  Anyone have a sailor whom recently graduated and is waiting to class up ? Anyone have a sailor whom is in A-school currently and can give some advice on maybe what a Parent can do to help their sailor get thru the courses , study guides etc? Lets leave the drama for some other site please - thanks

  • Becca's Mom

    Jenn

My daughter has PIR this Friday, and then she is off to a school at Ft Sam Houston.  She starts Oct 2.  Not sure what she will be doing in the two weeks waiting.  But glad to meet a new mom here.

  • DramaSoul

New Moms....my son graduated July 2nd and is currently in FMTB training.  He had 4 weeks waiting to class up and during that time they marched, cleaned, stood watch, marched, cleaned, stood watch, etc.  It was not liberty time. Not sure how much benefit the A&P flash cards were for him. He seemed to be busy all the time although we could text and talk on the phone which they can't do at BC.

  • Craig

    Welcome Jenn,

Luckily your son is getting to San Antonio during the cool months.  I just got left last week and it is incredibly hot.  I know your son is doing his phase liberty now, so he is limited on what he can do.

One of the biggest complaints you will see is the cost for the taxi's.  They are a true rip-off.  If you are thinking of traveling to see you son, you might want to think of a car for him.  There is not much time to do stuff after school each night because they usually get off about 6pm, and their curfew is 9:30pm.  However, on the weekends, if they don't have duty, then their is no curfew, per say.  Just submit a chit.  These sailor truly need time to recharge themselves, so it maybe something to look into.

The internet sucks at Fort Sam.  It seems like the best service is Verizon Hot spot.  You may suggest this to him.

To me, these are the two things that you need to think of 1st.  Let him get into that comfort zone and have an outlet.

    Again Welcome aboard....

  • Craig

Drama - Just to clarify, the sailors cannot use cars, or taxi's during their lunch hours at Fort Sam, correct?  I know I talked to the sailors and they complained about the food (which everyone, everywhere in the world does).  I ask why they just don't go to the exchange and they said they didn't have the time because they couldn't be in a car.  Have you heard this too?

  • DramaSoul

Craig, that is how I understand it.  My son got food from the PX (is that where they sell groceries?) and would keep things in the fridge in his room.  As I understand it they have to eat breakfast and lunch there.  Dinner is optional. At least that's what he had to do.  He thought the food was the worst at Ft. Sam compared to GLRTC and Camp P.  He is basing that on the salad bar and the availability of grilled vs fried food. Also at Ft. Sam they have 'mystery meat' something he never ventured to try.  Of course, they had had Buffalo Wild Wings, he would've eaten those!!

  • DramaSoul

    that's...if they had had...

  • Craig

That's good you brought up Buffalo Wild Wings, you know what I haven't notice on base is I haven't seen any Pizza hut, Domino's or any other type of off base food delivery.  Even with closed bases, they usually will let these guys apply for a permit to allow them on, much like the taxi's.  I wonder why I haven't seen any.

  • Jenn(RJs Mom) Ship 09 Div 273

My sons classes start next Wednesday - He has been enjoying all the sights he can and catching up on sleep; no complaints as of yet about transportation - no complaints about food either ; but then his staple is Cinnamon Toast Crunch LOL

  • Britt<3Corpsman Wife

Jenn- my husband is currently at Ft Sam for A school. He is about half way done. I honestly don't suggest any study guides or books before they start classes. They really don't have much time for that anyways in the first couple of weeks. They also need time to relax and get ready for their tough courses.

I do highly suggest for you to visit if you are able to. I waited until they had overnight liberty (phase 3). My husband said it was so refreshing to be away from the base from Friday night til Sunday Evening. Just make sure you time it so they don't have duty one of the days because then they can't leave the base. And there is so much to do in the San Antonio area for families and sailors. I have spent three weekends there so far and we had something to do every weekend.

And always try to say possitive things and encourage them to study. That is the only way they will make it thru the courses! Let me know if you want any additional info. Lots of the people in this group have great information!
  • Katze90210 (3/113)

Craig funny you mentioned the weather. My son left SA to go to NC. He has been there 2 weeks now and asked me to send his leather jacket because it gets cool there at night. I said how cool? He said 70 I laughed and said awe poor SA blood! Also he used clear wire for Internet access while at SA. Said Verizon too slow. Just another option
  • Katze90210 (3/113)

Craig & Drama my sin said the same thing about the food. That's why he kept food in his room
  • Navy2011Mom

Craig, about the pizza thing...   I spoke to my son one night last week while he was waiting for pizza delivery, so they must have some way worked out for that.

  • DramaSoul

NavyGirlzMom...wow.  My son didn't think there was that much liberty.  But then he was there from March to July.  One thing I know about the Navy...CHANGE is the operative word.  He did talk about going into SA a couple of times for haircuts and alterations on his uniforms (he lost more weight).  They had Field Day (cleaning) every week and there were lots of inspections of uniforms and personal appearance.  He isn't one to spend money so maybe that was it.  He did go with friends sometimes into SA but he wasn't gonna lay out big bucks for anything.  He is a little older than the average recruit.  Don't know if that plays a role.

  • Craig

One thing I've notice that I found really strange on my trip to Fort Sam and have never seen it at any other base is the sailors will bring their seabag (duffle bag) to the commissary (grocery store) on base.  When they pay and check out, they will fill the seabag with all their food and put it on their backs and walk back to the barracks.

When you guys visit Fort Sam, and if you ever see a sailor walking back with a seabag on their back, offer them a ride.  Beleive me, they're not out for fresh air if they have a heavy seabag.

  • luvmycorpsman

Navy2011mom, my SN was telling me the same thing, that they've delivered pizzas to base.  Saw it himself.  ;)  If your sailor is in to fishing, that seems to be the "go-to" activity around there.  Haha.  I hear about it all the time from my fiance.

  • Craig

How do the pizza guys work? Do they just stop at the Taxi stand and have the sailor go down?  or do the sailor have to go to the gate?  I truly never saw a pizza car the entire time I was there.  Heck as cheap as pizza is, I'd have it every night....

  • alexcmom

Navy 2011 mom, I know for a fact that they can get pizza and other junk food, it's a common thing. I don't know the details of exactly how that happens because obviously I don't live there (so I don't need to know lol) but after the very first phrase 3 liberty, trust me your sailor will know. They all learn the in and outs very quickly. They become a tight knit group and chances are he arrived with maybe a fellow shipmate or 2 from bootcamp?  My son did and it has been such a blessing. They figure it all out for themselves. And as much as I have been a control freak- hovering mom in the past, it's been a very growing experience for me as well to let him do just that. :)

  • JillyBean

Craig, my husband and his friends order pizza or Chinese on weekends, they just meet the delivery guys at the taxi stand. I got a taxi there last weekend and there were several groups of people waiting for their deliveries.

  • TexasDocMom

My son said that right off base are the best Mexican taquito shops he's ever seen...and he's a South Austin boy, so he's seen plenty. He said they are cheap and the food is incredible. Of course he was coming off of being based out of Camp Lajuene for several years, so he was pretty hungry for tacos...Homemade tortillas, the flour ones are great, the corn ones are like corn cake...

  • Maria ( 9/132 - HM- 04-2011)

That is so cool about the pizza delivery, they did not have that when my son was therdy. He would have loved it. The food at the base is nothing like great Lakes. As soon asybe finished a school our son Came home on leave and drove his car back. Made his life so much better. In fralish hall Sprint has really good reception, not so good at the hall he moved to for c school.
  • Maria ( 9/132 - HM- 04-2011)

Alexcmom, i know what you mean i have always been there to fix/take care of anything and everything. They do figure it out on their own. I think it was harder fo me to let go. :)
  • alexcmom

Windhaven-Maria - glad to know I'm not the only one. :) it's been hard but I keep in mind that he's no longer a kid, he's a man with a job now. So when he does call and when he does text it makes me appreciate it all the more. Knowing how busy he is and how hard he's studying/working it's really nice to get that phone call or text every once and a while.  It's a constant growing process, probably more so for me!   TexasDocMom- your comment made me smile. I went to visit my son this summer and he wanted to go out for mexican food. I had heard that there was a really good restraurant right off base (maybe the one your son mentioned) and thought he would take us to that one. Where does he take us? Hooters. Go figure. I think maybe I'll pick if there's a next time. :)

  • lizinnj

Clear Internet is what my daughter purchased when she got to Fort Sam. She purchased it at Best Buy. We researched and I emailed people down there. This was the cheapest and best option.

She also only eats mandatory meals/breakfast and lunch. She and a group of friends go to Walmart or Target and stock up on payweek. With the microwave and fridge in the room, she makes alot of her dinner meals there. She can't stand the food at Fort Sam. They have tried out almost all places Guy Fieri has been to down there. An incredible Mexican place called Beto's they go to quite often.

This is a time for them to learn and learn some more ....and us too..

  • Craig

I'm going to show you guys three picture I took that are cool (I think)

    1. The 1st picture is a door sign.  What is funny about this sign is the room behind it.  This is the counselling room. Navy's version of a time out chair. Whenever a sailor is caught goofing off, they are told to go into this room and the yelling begins.  This sign puts the fear in them.  It only a one-way "talk", but ask your sailors what goes on behind this sign, if they tell you, ask "So you've been in there?" ~ha

Man, I been on both side of that chair, the yeller and the yellie.  It teaches you never to mess up again.  It's amazing how the Navy yelling at you is so much more effective than your parents yelling at you.  My kids were never affected by me yelling. ~ha

The second photo is a Christmas stocking sock I bought at the base medical museum.  There are two museum on base, as soon as you enter the front gate and hang a left, and go all the way down.  This is the Fort Sam museum which talks about the history of Fort Sam.

The other museum is the Fort Sam medical museum.  From the front gate you just keep going straight.   It is basically all Army stuff.  They have  a real Medal of Honor award in there, which is probably the closed you'll every come to one, and they have a cool little gift shop.  In this gift shop was these Navy Christmas stockings.  I think they are soooo cool.  I guess no one is buying them since they have them on sale for $18.  They had about 5 out there, but may have more in the back room.  If you can't make it to Fort Sam medical museum, the tag on the stocking says www.camosock.com.  I've never saw one before, and I think it will be cool for the fireplace this year for Christmas.

  • Craig

The last photo was my favorite.  I went to the Fort Sam history museum.  On display they have various vehicles, one of which is this 20,000 lb Half Track personnel carrier.  It's armored protected. The track can stop a land mine, the windows are 1/2 in thick.  It can destroy tanks.  This is one bad dude....

However, it met its match.  While there a young mom had her young 5 year old with her.  The kid was running around looking at all the cool vehicles, and stopped at this one.  With nothing in his hand he went up and smacked the 4 inch solid metal track with his hand.  What does the mom say "Eric, don't hurt that car".  Man, that mom has one bad dude.  I just think of all the amazing stories this truck has in it history, and to have them all destroyed by a 5 year old smacking the tracks just made me laugh.

  • DramaSoul

Craig, thanks for sharing the photos!  I had wanted to go to the Medical Museum but ran out of time. The whole thing about the Navy yelling vs parents yelling is SOOOO true.  My son irons his clothes and makes his bed.  You would think I didn't teach him a thing! I just thank the Navy for finally getting him to listen.  There was nothin' better than coming downstairs to see him ironing his NWU's getting ready for RAP duty. I love the story of the little kid hitting the truck.  That would've been my son at that age.

TDM....hand made tortillas? Yum.  I grew up in LA.  There were some great little mom and pop Mexican food places with those wonderful hand made tortillas. We did find some good Japanese food places, strangely enough.  Some pretty good sushi.  Not sure how many people like sushi.  I was surprised to find such good Japanese food.

Katze...isn't that funny how they acclimate to SA! When my son was home on leave in the early part of July, he was chilly.  It was 63 here in Oregon which felt great to me after 4 days in the heat and humidity of SA. He had goosebumps wearing his shorts and tee shirt!

  • DramaSoul

Oh and that thing about carrying their food back to their rooms in the seabags was something I observed. I was dropping my son off at Janke Hall and I saw a couple of guys weighed down with these seabags. Some of my son's friends were about to do clinicals (we were leaving the next day) so they went to the commissary to get food and their seabags were filled to the brim. I just assumed that was SOP.

  • JillyBean

DramaSoul, do you remember any of the sushi restaurant names? My husband is always craving sushi, but hasn't found a good place yet.

  • lizinnj

Jilly...............Zushi Sushi is one of my daughters favorite places off base. Have your husband look it up. She was just there Saturday night and sent me pics of her plate!! :)

  • Katze90210 (3/113)

Craig I just ordered to Navy stockings ! I'm going to take one to the mall to have his name embroidered on it. Thanks for sharing. Oh and they are a little more expensive on line but shipping is free. Just under $23.00
  • Katze90210 (3/113)

Lol Drama just goes to show you how quick they adjust. I too was like ahhhh but he was like burrell! Lol
  • DramaSoul

If Zushi Sushi is the one near Riverwalk, that one was my favorite.
