Hello I am Debbie. My son in presently at San Antonio, TX in Corpsman School, class # 025. His sister and  I are looking to attend his graduation in TX. My son is training to be a FMF Corpsman. Is there anyone else on this site that has a son or daughter in the same class?

  • Marieta.K

Hello. I am Future Sailor Marieta. I leave for bootcamp on April 7th. I will be an HM. It has been my number one option since the first day I was a Navy applicant. I feel lucky to have this rate since it seems to be hard to get lately. I am very excited for bootcamp and eventually Corps school.
  • Froggy

Welcome Marieta!  Best of luck to you as you start your navy career!!!  You might also want to join the boot camp moms site as well.  You will find loads of information there as well.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Hi Marieta!  You'll hear over and over that HM is the best rating in the Navy and it's true.  There is a lot of information at the links above.  Since you have time, you could get a head start on A School by getting an EMT-Basic test review book or online program and brush up on anatomy and physiology terminology, ABCs (airway/breathing/circulation) and so on.

Mother of twins, sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. I'm trying to be more frequent as we just found out my son will be going back to SA in July for C School. Anyway, we stayed at the Embassy Suites, it wasn't cheap, but it wasn't too bad either as they had a very good free breakfast each day and happy hour, Yay! It was my mom, my brother in law and I and he paid for our rooms. There are a few motels on base, one of them my son's friends parents stayed at and we all got together and had a family bbq right there on base. I can't remember the name (its on the VA hospital side), but I believe that Holiday Inn was taking it over.

  • Browneyedgirl14

Hello everyone! My boyfriend just graduated bootcamp on the 9th and is now in San Antonio for A school. I'm already looking into visiting him once he reaches phase 3. Any suggestions on hotels? I think I'm going to be able to go see him as soon as next month!!
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Bdrowneyedgirl14, welcome!  Here's a compilation of recommendations from others who have traveled to Ft Sam Houston to visit -  http://navyformoms.com/group/hmhospitalcorpsmanaschoolinsanantonio/...  Keep in mind that A School is CHALLENGING.  He's there to study study study, and his class standing will affect getting the C School of his choice and therefore many aspects of his Navy career, so be supportive.  Everyone is different, but if he says he needs the time to study, be prepared to respect that  :)

  • Mommabear

    Hi-

Future Sailor Marieta.K, My sailor has left SA and on to the next chapter. Since you have a few months before boot and A school, take advantage of the time. Study up and get/stay in good shape. In other words, take good care of yourself so you can learn to take good care of others.  There are many links and comments that will help you if you have the time to read them. Stay focused and be respectful. I have faith that you will do well!

Dear Browneyedgirl14, I agree with Marcy's comment. I was not able to go to Texas during A school but looking back at my son's A school, there was only one weekend that would have been good to visit because he was studying most of the time when not in class. Don't take it personally if your boyfriend is too busy for a visit. There is a lot of information for them to learn crammed in to a small amount of time.

Hello Everyone, I'm Future Sailor Roundtree. I leave for boot camp February 24th. My rate is HM. Excited about the future opportunities that I will experience.

Welcome and best wishes for your future success!

  • TRsmom

Hello. My sailor left for BC on January 21, 2015. She is enlisted as a dental assistant. I don't have her PIR date yet, but believe it will be March 20th. Looking forward to getting to know other moms here!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Welcome new moms!  If friends and family are unsure just what a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman is, here's a link to share :)  http://www.navy.com/careers/healthcare/medical-support.html?campaig...

  • Insaneuno

Hi everyone :) my boyfriend is going to San Antonio after PIR 2/27. I was wondering about when they are allowed off base. I happen to be in San Antonio for college. Thanks!
  • Dutchess

My daughter arrived yesterday, 2/7, in San Antonio.  Is there any other mom's with sailors in class 095?

  • MelonieM

My daughter also flew into San Antonio on 2/7/15. I was wondering what they can have in terms of personal items and electronics? Any information is appreciated.
  • Maria ( 9/132 - HM- 04-2011)

Once out of bc they can have pretty much everything they want. They just don't want to accumulate tony has since they have to take it with them when they go to their 1st duty station
  • mygemforever

Hello Everyone. My son will be graduating from BC on 3/13/2015 and will go to San Antonio , TX for A School. I have been hearing about the Anatomy flashcards and coloring book. Does anyone have a idea which kind/author is good? I am just preparing for my son. Any thoughts would be appreciated !

  • NavyMotheInLove

    Hi everyone,
My future son in law will be leaving for boot camp on March 2nd (hospital corpsman) He was told today that he will be attending both BC & A school at Ft. Sam Houston. I'm just trying to learn as much as possible so that I can help both he and my daughter transition.
He comes from a Navy family so that has been helpful, but never the less it's new to my daughter and I. They are young and in love she is my only child and will be graduating, turning 18, getting married and becoming a military spouse, moving to who knows where and starting her first year of college one thing right after the other. Needless to say I'm pretty overwhelmed.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

    Happy Valentine's Day, moms!!

  • tori'smom

Good morning,  I have the same question about the flash cards and anatomy coloring book.  Can anyone suggest where to get them or the names of each.  Also can they take anything other than their phone and computer?  Anything else they will need when they first get there?  Thanks for any help you can provide! :)

  • TNT

A good place to get the anatomy flash cards and coloring book is amazon.com

My son has been at Fort Sam for 4 weeks, training for 3 weeks, we live close and was able to bring him civilian clothing and shoes, after he phased up and was allowed to wear them.

There are multiple malls/department stores where they can purchase anything they want/need. Just a taxi ride away.

    Hope this helps.

  • SailorMom

My son graduates next Thursday 3/5, I'm not able to make it. Anyone else have graduates that would be willing to take pictures for me?
  • mygemforever

tori'smom, I just bought the Anatomy coloring book & Flash Cards through Amazon.com.  I bought the Anatomy flashcards by J. Tillotson & Anatomy coloring book by Kaplan. ,

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

IMO, the most valuable tune-up for Hospital Corps A School is an EMT-Basic exam review book that covers anatomy and physiology, airway, and trauma emergencies.  The coloring books and flashcards are probably more useful to a student taking a course that is solely A&P.  (I've taken both the EMT course, and college A&P I and II).  Just my opinion :)  Amazon has several.

Class #045, posted today on Instagram by metcmil.  "It was class photo day for #BMTCP class #045 today.  Congrats on all your accomplishments, and good luck with your upcoming graduation!"

  • Lizzie_Corpsmanwife

Hi LauraCam. What kind of info are you looking for regarding Corp school?
  • honor.courage.commitment

Anyone have a future Corpsman in class 055, graduating April 7th?

  • Lizzie_Corpsmanwife

You can send them a box of anything but try not to send too much because it's a pain to take that back with you when you change stations. My husband classed up after two weeks of being there and then because super busy because they have to study hard. They have phases which there should be link above this comment somewhere. Also you can get info from your sailor too. I'm not sure what kind of information you're looking for so just let me know what. You would like to know. We've been here since April last year.
  • mygemforever

My sailor is settling in very well in Texas together with his roommate & friend. They cleaned and organized their new room. They are checking out the whole base and liking it! Classes start on Wednesday next week. I hope and pray that things will be good and better for all our new Sailor's!
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Welcome new members!!  For those both new and not so new - the Navy Medicine Almanac 2015 is now out, and it contains a great summary of the Hospital Corps, including a brief history, corpsman responsibilities, areas of specialization, and Hospital Corps heritage.  Go to the link and then advance to pages 28 - 30.  Impressive!!  http://www.med.navy.mil/Navy%20Medicine%20Media%20Room/Documents/Al...

New members - there is a wealth of information at the links provided at the top of this group's page.  Hopefully you will take some time to work through it.  There is a LOT to the Hospital Corps rating, and much will become clearer as you learn, and it will help tremendously with communicating with your future/current corpsmen.  And of course we're here to answer questions too!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Spot your future corpsman?  This was posted by METC on Monday:  "This afternoon, under the watchful eyes of their instructors, BMTCP Class # 075 practiced skills needed to field triage and get the wounded out of harm's way.  Great job, students!  METC trains for the mission and educates for a lifetime of service!"

We need a 'LIKE' button for the pics!!!

  • Dutchess

My sailor needs some prayers headed her way for tomorrow please. She sees an orthopedic tomorrow morning to decide if she needs surgery for a fractured ankle. She is currently in A school. She is so scared that she will need surgery and will be rolled back and possibly loose her C school. Please remember her in your prayers.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

    Dutchess -absolutely!!!
  • Dutchess

Well ladies, my daughter didn't make it to her ortho appointment this morning. There was a mix up in transportation. Her instructor is going to try to get her an appointment on post instead of on LAF across town. She was told if she left on time they wouldn't have made it in time due to traffic.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Dutchess, do you have an update?  I was so sorry to read about the mix-up - I hope she isn't in too much pain!

  • Dutchess

Marcy, She texted me tonight and said she has another appointment on Tuesday.

  • Dutchess

Thanks for all your prayers and well wishes. Kayla saw the ortho doctor today and was told she has to wear the boot for a month and a brace for a month. She was given PT exercises to do on her own. She can start running after the brace comes off. So for now no surgery/cast.  We are so happy!!!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

    VERY good news!! Whew  ;)

  • RobinsMom96

Can anyone recommend a good, moderately priced hotel near the A school in San Antonio. I'm going to visit him in July since I'll only get to see him for a day at bootcamp graduation.

  • Joe&NatesMom

Hello all...my son arrived at San Antonio on the 14th...so far so good!
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Welcome Joe&Natesom!  RobinsMom96, here are recommendations for hotels near A School from other corpsman moms:  http://navyformoms.com/group/hmhospitalcorpsmanaschoolinsanantonio/...

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

my2navygirls, the current batch of class start and graduation dates was provided to me by an instructor at METC and had a gap in it that included the month of April, so the date she has of April 30 is likely correct.  The FB page occasionally posts an update but they haven't for a long time, which is why I resorted to seeking one from an instructor.

LauraCam, if you look through the information posted at the top of this page, you'll see "GRADUATION SCHEDULES AND UPDATES."

If you see an update on the FB page that I've missed, please let me know.  Everyone, please always check with your sailor to verify his/her class start and graduation date.

  • Joe&NatesMom

I think my son said he is in class 120, but I can't be for sure.  When he got there, he went through the briefings, then was told that only sailors with last names A-L could start.  He had to go through all the briefings again and started a week or two after his roomate. Just nice to be able to speak to him and text every now and then.  Can't wait till graduation and find out his first assignment!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Well, at least he got the briefings part down pat LOL  Yes, it's a relief to be able to communicate finally, right?  Has he considered C school "wish list" choices yet or have his sights on one in particular?

  • Joe&NatesMom

He hasn't said much about C School yet. He did say his options are limited because he's color blind. He did tell me how important it is to keep his GPA as high as possible...something about his wish list? Bad connection, so I didn't ask again...just let him talk...he did say he really liked San Antonio...and is sooo glad he joined the Navy...Army has to march too much! Good reason Son!
  • ⚓️Brittany⚓️

My boyfriend is in boot camp right now he graduates in may and will go to San Antonio for A school. Before he left they said he would be there for 6 months because he had to do dental after A school. My question is is this right? Is that his C school? How long would his dental be? Im about to try and plan a wedding so im trying to find out as much as possible! Also how long does it usually take them to get to phase 3? Isnt that when they can stay off base on weekends overnight?

  • Lizzie_Corpsmanwife

Hey Brittany welcome to corpsman wife life. I'll give you some inside scoop:
First of all he arrives to San Antonio and it takes about 2wks or so to begin schooling. Then he will most likely be swamped with school, which is ok because you want him to do well in school trust me. Secondly phase three happens I think about a week or less into starting achool, which yes they can go overnight. Thirdly, he says he wants to do dental school BUT it is my understanding that it's navy needs. For example: hubby could want dental and put it on his dream sheet, which consists of three duty stations and three C schools, but let's say navy says "we want you in surg tech or we want you in Virginia", it's all what the Navy wants. And lastly, don't hate me for this please BUT, it is extremely hard to plan a wedding while hubby is in school. The navy causes you to change ALL your plans and if you want a traditional wedding, just be prepared for things not to always work out. Check cancellation clause, make sure everything is refundable girl or you will lose money. Most just do a court wedding or a small quick wedding on a weekend during phase 3 in A school. Make sure to get it ALL in writing ok'ing for y'all to get married. DM me if you have any more questions :) I'm here to help
  • Lizzie_Corpsmanwife

    Lauracam,
Son has to just put you on a list and once you arrive to San Antonio, check into the visitors entrance to obtain a pass. Regarding the dates changing for graduation, it depends on holidays and if they gave him a grad date it'll stay the same. Unless he gets washed back to the class behind him otherwise he's good. Also times CAN change so be flexible.
  • Navy'an

Hello everyone, I am new to the military life. My son is attending A school in San Antonio. He arrived Sat. He spend most of Sun adjusting to his room and life around the base. Called me frequently, which I loved! I'm from Houston so I'm blessed to be close by to him and plan to visit as much as possible. Any info would be greatly appreciated and welcomed.
