Bronco14 do they know you are living out there? I'm only asking cause if it was a personal move I think your sailor has to go and do that at the base housing office. Then I think he would need to let them know you live there and blah blah blah. It's crazy I went through that process but we didn't get asked anything.
No I don't think they know I'm out here. It was a personal move. Is that process annoying and kind of crazy? I already paid the deposit cause I didn't know I could get it waived, and either way the deposit will be returned to me when I move, which will be in just two and a half months. So it might just be easier for me to wait it out.
I never dealt with it my husband did when he moved in with me during C school. I wouldn't bother with the deposit because he won't be living with you so it doesn't matter. Don't tell them you live there though.
Yeah the only reason I was going to bother with it is because I wouldn't have to pay the deposit if he had the waiver :) But I'm gonna just hold out and get it back when we leave, not a big deal. Thanks for the info and help! Also, why shouldn't anyone know that I live here?
Well it's not a big deal actually but if they find out, they could switch your BAH to Texas and you won't get moved from Texas to your next duty station or first station. They move you from the address on file but for us it actually all worked so good. We got money to move ourselves and move to move from Texas to CA, which our place of residence was already California.
My sailor passed his CPR & didn't pass the next text & was told he was pushed back. He is extremely upset with himself & won't communicate with me...does anyone know what happens when they are struggling?? I'm a nosey kind of mom & like to be able to give some type of guidance. Any info is greatly appreciated!!
@squeak4me I thought they could take a retest but what test was it he didn't pass? There is a test my husband was stressing about so I'm wondering if that's the one.
@squeak4me he will be pushed back and retake the class its not such a bad thing I know your sailor feels bad but this is just a minor bump in the road. I would just let him be until he wants to talk about it. I am sure when he passes it the next time you will have your happy sailor back!
they can fail the first one take the retest and fail that then they get pushed back. I am not sure if they fail it for the 3rd time what happens. I know he will have mandatory study group until he takes the next test.
@Squeak4me, My son is finishing up his A school and although he didnt fail i can tell you that there is alot of resources for them to get the study they need. When he first got to San Antonio back in November ge would talk often but now as they are doing test its harder to communicate. I asked my son, he said he still will have a 3rd try and if he doesnt make it then he will just have to get pushed back again. Im a nosey mom too. I want to always know what theyre doing but ive learned that our boys are having to do this on their own without our help and when hes ready he will be in contact with you. Wish your son all the best!!
@NavyMom1108 thank you for the info. It's so difficult to cut that cord to our children sometimes. I know he will be fine! It's all in God's plan for him! Thank you for the support & good luck to you Sailor as well!!❤️⚓️
Welcome SNC'sMOM. This is a great place to ask questions regarding Corpsman school. We will do our best to help you out with answers or point you in the right direction.
@navymom1108 can you tell me what test are you talking about that your son is taking? My son will be going to A school in Houston TX but it is not until April.
@momofnm, yes we have talked before & had the same PIR date of 1/08/16. My Sailor was pushed back because of his Physiology and anatomy test. He said he missed it by one question, so he is now waiting for the next class to fill. I'm so heartbroken for him... I know he can do it, he is just so lax with everything. Oh well...what test was your Sailor struggling with?
I have been trying to post all day with user error. Great news for me...My Sailor passed his test & the following test with flying colors! I guess being pushed back gave him the swift kick in the behind he needed. Thank you GOD!!!!
Question, does anyone know where I can find info regarding a graduation date? I have asked him & he said he does not know. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Squeak4me, my daughter just graduated last Wednesday. She found out the date about 3 weeks before graduation. I guess they don't tell them right away in case they get rolled back to the class behind them. When I got my ticket to fly down for graduation I paid the $25.00 to get the travel insurance in case she failed a test or something and had to go to the class behind hers. When I kept asking all I would get as an answer was sometime around mid February.
Have any of your corpsman been put on tmd hold before going to their next duty station? We know there is a chance that the next command my sailor will be stationed won't have an open class until July, so I am wondering if he will be on hold in San Antonio from his graduation next month until then, or if they will ship him to his next command to be put on hold there... any experience with this?
My son finished A school, was sent to his next duty, worked at the hospital for 3 months while he waited for his class to start. He was able to have his truck at this point.
Oh that's great, I didn't even think about that possibility. Thank you!! Do you know if your son was able to live off base during working at the hospital if he chose to do so? Thank you so much!
He had no choice. He has lived on base in a barracks since his arrival. Room mates have come and gone while he has been there. He is still on base now. He is approaching his first full year at this duty and is only now preparing his paperwork to request live off base. :)
Okay thank you :) I'm hoping if my sailor is in that position he would be able to live off base since we will be married by that time. What class was your son on hold for? C school or FMTB?
Great thank you!! One last question, my sailor graduates A school at the end of March, and I know the next FMTB class just shortly after in April. Is it pretty likely that that one is already full and he will be waiting until the next class to begin in July? Did this seem to be the case for your son?
My son waited 3 months before beginning his FMTB training. I am not sure of the reason he had to wait. I don't know if there was a class in session or if a new class was already full. I was just learning about FMTB for the first time - at that time and getting information from my son about what his next steps were.
Can anyone help with information on an apartment for my daughter. She is currently in Naples, Italy and will be returning to SA for C school at end of April. Any recommendations for a safe area to look since she will be living alone. Also would like to be close to base if possible. Thanks in advance.
Tink, yes! I currently live in SA while my boyfriend is in school here. Look into the Oakhampton Place Apartments. Close to base and a lot of military and older residents here. I'm 22 and alone most of the time and I feel very safe here. It is also gated. There are also nice apartments across the street from me called The Niche I believe. They seem nice as well. There is another new apartment complex down the road but the name isn't coming to me now. I'll check when I drive by next and report back.
I'm wondering if anyone could tell me the typical protocol for after A school? Did your sailors leave shortly after A school o their next command or were they on hold for a while in SA? My sailor's next class may not start until July, so I am wondering if we will be in San Antonio until then or if he will move first and be on hold at his next duty station. Thanks!
Good Evening, My son graduates tomorrow from A school at Fort Sam. I am so heart broken that I will not be able to attend. I didnt realize it was a big ceremony and my son didnt want me to worry about cost to get there. So my Sailor told me a few weeks back that it was very small because he knew things were rough right now for my husband and I. He graduates tomorrow and was facetiming me tonight shining his shoes, making sure his uniform was very neat . Is the ceremony liveStream?
NavyMom1108. I am new to this. My son goes off to BC in My, then Hospital Corpsman. Everything I read I was under the impression The A school Grad was very small and intimate, especially considering everyone will be like me flying across the country just months earlier for BC Graduation. As my mom always said, " It is the thought that counts" That was nice you can talk to him before. What next for him and congrats on your sons success !
The A school graduation is much much smaller and more intimate and nothing like the scope if PIR. I was lucky and did have the opportunity to go. There were very few of my son's classmates who had family there that didn't live in the area. There were lots of pics posted from other moms on the Facebook page.
Navymom1108, don't worry about it! My sailor is here now and often attends graduations every week. He says they are very small and not very many families come, the ones that do are living close enough to drive. That was sweet of your son! Just be proud of him and I'm sure he'll call you after! :)
@didntcthiscoming, thank you.I use to be on this site 24 hours a day when my son was in BC. It was my lifeline. He got his first orders to stay in texas for another 10 months. We are from California so its hard to travel all the way there. We did go to chicago for PIR and it was so great seeing him there. A changed man for sure. Thanks to everyone for your reassuring comments. I had heard it was small but I talk with my son daily and all his navyMen and last night he was getting ready and he just said mom, its ok Im ok. Hes always been a very humble person and he knows we would be there if we could.
We just got back from San Antonio yesterday. The graduation ceremony from A school was short and small And no, not many families were able to attend.
My other daughter and I went because we brought my Sailor her car from NY. Now that she can have one, it's better than having to pay for a cab every time she wants to leave base, since she will be staying in SA for C School.
( I won't do that drive by myself again...that was hell)
They really don't have a lot of time after graduation, anyway. In fact, your sailor will still have a couple days of classes before having the weekend free.
Does anyone have any idea of a schedule? Above on this site there is an "A" School Class Number & Graduation Schedule posted for last year's classes. Has anyone seen this year's proposed schedule? My son is in class 080 & that is all I know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Squeak4me, ever since the school was moved from Great Lakes to San Antonio, the schedule hasn't been provided and it seems subject to change. The best I can offer for now is that you have to rely on your sailor's information. It's also true that the ceremony is not as formal by far as it was at GL. If your sailor is heading elsewhere immediately after graduation and you want to plan a visit, it is likely better to wait and go to their first duty station, where you'll have more time to visit, help them get set up, etc.
Here's a new video from Fleet Medical Battalion-East at Camp Lejeune, NC that shows what students can expect during the eight-week course. Nearly all corpsmen eventually go through FMTB at either Camp Johnson (part of Camp Lejeune) or at Camp Pendleton, CA. Females attend Camp Pendleton only. LINK: FMTB-East Command Video
