Sailors becoming Hospital Corpsmen at A School in San Antonio, TX - best rating in the Navy! The Hospital Corps is the Navy's only enlisted Corps and the most decorated in the Navy. Families, friends and loved ones, join in!
When my son was at FMTB West, there were no females but that was 4 years ago this Summer. (Wow...where did that 4 years go??) I thought he said they were adding a barracks for females at FMTB West but I don't know if that ever happened.
BTW...for any of you who have Corpsman going FMTB, get the DVD that they offer at the end of training. I still watch my son's!
Moms, this is an exception to the no-selling-on-N4M guideline :) The corpsmen stationed in Hawaii are fund-raising for this June's Corpsman Ball and selling one of the best corpsman coins I've seen. If you're interested in what I think is an great gift, take a look; here's the link: Hospital Corps coin.
Good afternoon! Our son arrived in San Antonio very early this morning. Friday after PIR was too short a time with him. I know the ability to visit and leave after A school is coming soon but this is very hard.
Hi meadechef, you have to go to the link and order. I don't have anything to do with it :) They are being sold by the corpsmen in Hawaii to raise funds for their Ball in June. Here's the link again: https://squareup.com/store/hospital-corps-birthday-ball/item/hospit... And one more thing, it turns out these are larger than traditional coins, in fact coin is a misnomer. It is fairly heavy and measures about 3" x 3.5". I just received it and it's really great quality and will be quite a gift for a keepsake. Very glad I ordered.
BTW, you'll see in the future that corpsmen at different commands raise funds for their annual Corpsman Ball by designing and selling T shirts and coins and do everything from hot dog sales to car washes. The Corpsman Ball committee is a good activity for corpsmen to get involved with.
I just checked with my son about the coin, I was going to buy it for him and he already bought it, so glad I checked! But it is a beautiful coin, I may just get one for myself!
@Catherine, at first my sailor said it was going to be on a Thursday, but he is now graduating on Tues, July 26. Keep asking questions, they will get a date the closer it gets. Good Luck to your sailor.
They kept changing the date when my son was there...we ended up making a mini vacation and stayed the week in and around San Antonio. Figured that was cheaper than changing airline tickets and all the headaches associated with all of that nonsense.
My husband graduated on a Wednesday, and wasn't actually done with school until that Friday. If I remember correctly there was another date rumored and it changed about two months before the graduation. So you should find out closer to and be fine with tickets :) I would suggest taking a mini vacation like Joe&NatesMom said. Because your sailor might not get the full days off after his graduation!
My son will be in tx over the holidays and was just wondering if anyone could tell me how the holidays are handled there...do they get leave to come home?
Hi, all! My son arrived for A School on Saturday and is settling in, although he says he's melting. Something about "death by PowerPoint" as they prepare to start classes next week. He came with a great group of Sailors from Great Lakes and they are all looking forward to this portion of their journeys.
Got a call this evening from my Sailor, saying that there's a physical test tomorrow morning for those interested in the SARC program. That's his goal and he's going for it. Does anyone have any info on the program and its requirements?
My daughter is graduating next month from "A" school there in San Antonio and I am needing a more accurate graduation date so I can start making travel arrangements. Does anyone have any information about that, please?
Not sure where your son came from. My son is in San Antonio for school( arriving from Great Lakes last week. He is starting school this week. He has not been given his address yet. I am sure when he knows it he will give it to you.
It took my son nearly 2 weeks to get his address assigned (he tried to get it ASAP because I had promised cookies as soon as I could send them). This coming week, he starts Phase 2 and is looking forward to wearing civilian clothes - especially the shorts and flips!
Daughter is in C school. Looking for nice, not too expensive 1 bedroom apartment for her in a safe area. Anyone have any experiences good or bad? Doesn't necessarily have to be close to base. TIA
Hi, my son has only been at BC for 5 days, so I'm very new to all of this! I was wondering about PIR and heading to A school. Will he leave GL immediately after PIR to head to San Antonio? Before he left he said his recruiter told him he would probably stay up at GL a few weeks before leaving. Not sure what to believe. Thanks for any help on this, and all of this info is wonderful, albeit overwhelming. Thank you
Duke13 My son graduated from BC in May and they left to A School the day after graduation. once they get to there they may be waiting until they class up. my son only had to wait less than a week or so. You will want to to get into a group with others who have Recruits who are just going thru BC now. In a week or so you should be receiving paper work with his PIR date and then a group will be formed I'm sure for everyone with that same date. these groups are very helpful!!! Good luck to your recruit
Hi Tink... I am so sorry to just see your comment but I have some insight for you regarding an apartment. I lived off of Thousand Oaks and the 35 freeway, like 20mins drive. We paid about $800 so I don't know if that's too much for you. We lived on a lake so my husband loved it so much because he's a fisherman. PM me if you have anymore questions because I rarely am on this site :(
Hi everyone. I have a question does anyone know if they have internet access in their rooms or is the only way they can get internet in their rooms is thru a mobile hot spot?
yes, they are allowed a Keurig, when people were shipping out, they left theirs in the hallway for anyone to take, my daughter picked it up for her friend, too much to carry out, lol
Hi everyone my son graduated from Fort Sam in San Antonio Texas last year it was Jun 2015 I did not go to the graduation he said it was really really small they just celebrated among each other. After leaving Fort Sam he came home for about a week and a half in July 2015 he flew to Yokosuka aug 2015 and he did not come back home until July 2016 he was in Japan for a year he could not come home due to him being new he had slot of paperwork duties, etc. he could not come home for Christmas 2015 he came home this year in July 2016 for two weeks he does not know if he will be able to come back Christmas this year. He has to put his chit in and wait and see. My son did not have a passport he flew from Yokosuka Narita airport to Michigan Michigan all he had was his military ID. I thought they had to have passport also obviously not. oI hope this information helps enjoy

Welcome Steph's Mom!!! Meadechef, the grad dates seem to vary, and so the best source is your future corpsman (for the most updated address too).

For those not familiar with the Corpsman Ball, it's important to know about! The Hospital Corps is the only rate in the Navy allowed a formal Ball. They commemorate their founding date of June 17, 1898, the fact that theirs is the most de..., and honor corpsmen who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The Balls are held all over the world in June, and are an incredible experience. Encourage your corpsman to attend - once they're out of A School that is!! :)
Here are photos of the coin front and back -
