Christie-Okie, just google Navy Lodge. The phone number is on website.

TessaNator - Wow, those pics really typify the 80's, don't they. Great shots! My cousin was in the Navy then and he looked exactly like those sailors.

Also, I live within driving distance of Camas (in OR). Maybe you and I could meet up. Maybe DittersMom would join us too (hint hint). I'll send you a private message.

WonderGeek, that photo is fantastic! His personality (not to mention adorableness) really shine through.

My sailor is really enjoying his first term in college (ICYMI, he's in the STA-21 program). He should be home sometime near the beginning of August during his school break. He won't tell me when he's coming because he wants to surprise me. :D While he's here we will go down to SF for a small B-day party for my parents (Dad's 80th, Mom's 78th, both in very poor health). I'm so happy both my kids can be there. Hopefully we'll have all the kids and grandkids there, so we can take some family photos.

It's been hot here (high 80s to low 90s), too. Not as hot or humid as some of y'all, but most people here (including me) don't have a/c.

Hope everyone is having a good week! Stay cool, sea sisters and brothers, both literally and figuratively.

  • PacNWmom

This is my dad and my sailor, age 5, at our family's vacation house in NC.

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

    Love the photos!

Meanwhile, being the only woman in a workplace full of men has its moments. Big discussion today about the fact that the $13 B new air craft carrier doesn't have urinals. All heads are unisex. Really guys?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!  I so enjoyed my day off yesterday.  I ended up laying by the pool rather than floating in it lol!  It was a little cooler which was nice - even got a few sprinkles.

WonderGeekMom - oh the 'lil sailor picture is adorable!

PacNWmom - your sailor has the same smile as your dad - love it!

I'm trying to get caught up - both here and at work lol!  It's funny how far behind I can get with one day off - imagine in a week when I'm gone 10 days to VA ~ ah, but it will be worth it.

NancyJo - I ordered an Instant Pot and had it sent to B.  It should get there tomorrow (he likes to cook and he said his roommates GF was talking about it so I think they'll get good use of it). And this way we can use it while we are there - and I can give him some pointers.  Still trying to figure out his car situation.  His buddy from his ship just got back in to town so hopefully something will come from that and the truck he wants to sell.  Fingers crossed it works out.

Gotta run - I'll check in later.

Welcome to our newest members ~ YankeeRose, Familyof6 and MetroMom!

Be sure to read the pages to the right (10) under the member profiles, especially "Your Sailors Schedule Upon Arrival to GC" .  Also make sure you familiarize yourself with OPSEC.  The discussion forum up above has lots of good info too (be sure to hit "view all").  And of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have!

  • jberg12

NancyJo, I sympathize with your situation! I am a civilian contractor working with Army Special Forces, so most of the time, I am the only woman in the building. The conversations I have overheard and been a part of are head shaking, but entertaining nonetheless!

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

One fellow thought I might be interested in hearing about his prostate problems interfering with his urination, and the next day a guy going into detail about his vasectomy. <sigh> I guess this means I'm just one of the guys.

  • Mama3

Happy dance! Just got off the phone with my new Seaman ET from Boot Camp. PIR is Friday. He told me that Nuclear sailors and aviators and??? Are being held in Great Lakes for about a week and a half. The doctor that does the extra medical examinations is about a week and a half behind schedule. That is the reason for the holds. Congrats to all the upcoming upcoming PIR graduates!!
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Mama3 - BZ to your son!  Will you be going to PIR?  That's interesting about the Dr being behind on exams.  Hopefully they get caught up soon!

NancyJo - well that's some interesting conversations going on in your office lol!  You could probably ask for their thoughts on PMS, menopause & hot flashes (just to mention a few things) - that would probably shut them up :d  lol

  • Pelican19

My son's PIR was 7-7-17 & he was placed in THU for anemia. He got cleared last Thursday & sent to GC yesterday with one other Nuke. So sorry for those still waiting. I know my son was anxious to just get started. Now we are waiting to hear if he will be allowed to go get his wife in Seattle or if she will be driving cross country on her own. Praying hard that there will be time for him to go home & help with the move. He was originally told that he would have 10 days once housing was secured for him, but yesterday it sounded like that wasn't the case.
  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

    B'sNuke, LOL!

Mama3, does that mean all those sailors are not shipping out the day after PIR? Sounds very unusual.

  • Christie_Okie

I didn't realize NUKES requires extra medical. What does the extra mean?
  • Christie_Okie

Question.....so the ones on hold after PIR do the families get Fri, Sat and Sun with them?
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

I think this medical thing is not the normal.....This is the first I've ever heard of so many being held up.  And from what jberg said it's medical personnel that seem to have messed up with paperwork....

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

As far as families being able to spend time with them on the weekend after PIR I guess that will remain to be seen.  Hopefully some of the newbies that are involved in this will be able to chime in & let us know....

  • JayDee659

My daughter was almost a medical hold two years ago because the doctor was running behind. She kicked out I guess because she had a free minute and "dropped" in and got him to sign off. whew....
  • Pelican19

We were able to spend both Friday & Saturday with our son after PIR. We could have been with him Sunday as well, but we had an early morning flight.
  • Qenime

My son (in Goose Creek, after being on hold for a medical signature for a few weeks in Great Lakes, PIR 6/16/2017) was supposed to class up this week, then next week.  He is now saying that nobody has classed up because almost no Nukes got to Goose Creek from RTC, and now he doesn't know when he is going to class up!

  • JayDee659

Qenime, I know it's hard as they are excited to get on with it, but they need to relax and try to enjoy. Once they class up the pressure will be on and some will be overwhelmed. All things in God's time.
  • soccermom19

Is there an issue with just nukes not going on to A School or is happening with all ratings?

  • AZ2OH2IL2UT

Qenime- My son's PIR was 6/16/17. He luckily got his papers signed the day of Battle Stations. I am sorry your son is still waiting to start now. I did hear that there are a lot of Nukes waiting for signatures still in GL. Hopefully things will get taken care of soon so that they can get them to GC.

  • TessaNator⚓️

PacNWmom- yes, the 80's, lol, big hair and moustaches! Every guy has an 80's moustache!

As for meeting up! Let's do it. Lets have a Oregon Moms Navy group.  Let's plan a lunch.  I think this is a great plan.  There is a couple moms from Oregon.  I think I saw one from Troutdale and one from Oregon City.  Maybe we can make a temp group so we can start a Oregon support group.

  • jberg12

The Nukes that were put in THU after PIR were able to spend both Saturday and Sunday with their families if they were still around. I saw a lot of pictures of the sailors enjoying the sights of Chicago. That was the only thing bad about my son being one of the few to go on to Goose Creek, we had to spend almost 12 hours at Midway instead. That was a rough night.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi all - Happy Hump Day!

  • NickSydmom

Do they always fly out of midway?
  • JayDee659

Nicknukemom it's whichever airport has the best schedule and prices.
  • TessaNator⚓️

jberg12:  at what point do they let us know if they go to THU?  Will we find this out after graduation?

  • ProudOfK

Nicknukemom - I can tell you that a large number of nukes flew out of O'Hare when my son graduated PIR in April.

I must admit that reading these posts I'm torn whether to be glad my son didn't end up held in THU or to be jelous that we didn't get to spend 3 days not in an airport with him after PIR. :-)

I guess in the long run I'll be glad for my son sake that he wasn't held up in THU. Sure hope those that are get out of there soon.

  • KAM Mom

Hey all you MOMS!  KAM is in Japan!!!!!!   His sister from GC and I stayed with him at the airport in Charleston until he borded....he left early yesterday from Seattle.  I see that he purchased a few things at the NEX so I hope that he had a good first night and a hot shower after his flight!!!

All you new MOMS, just hang in there....the time passes faster than it seems....

I'll be checking in every now and then.  So much is happening, so much emotion, but greater grace from the LORD Jesus!

Looking forward to the eclipse ....it passes directly over our town in SC!!!  The schools will be closed on that day also!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Thursday!

KAM Mom - Glad to hear that KAM made it safely to Japan. From everything I hear he should really enjoy it.   I hope you are enjoying giving your ukulele lessons :)

Less than a week now before we head to VA to see B.  I'm so looking forward to some time off.  He still hasn't found a car yet so we might be looking with him when we get there....

  • JayDee659

KAM Mom doesn't it seem like yesterday when we were at graduation?  Now they're so far away, how quickly it happens!

My day started with my sailor's ring tone coming across my phone (not the "restricted" that shows up when she calls from the ship).  They are in England for awhile.  She had an interesting story.  When they were in line to get off the ship she was told she could not leave until she had pants on.  She HATES blue jeans and usually wears athletic/work out pants.  This wasn't a problem in Israel but apparently is in England.  So she and her buddies went to the back of the line and one of them got his extra pants out of his back pack and she put them on over her pants.  She said she's going to buy jeans today and yes, mom was right!  That was priceless.

They did get a picture of her on the flight deck while they were going through the Straits of Gibraltar.  Love seeing that pretty face!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Awwwww JayDee - awesome picture!!!!!  Thank goodness her buddy had pants she could borrow lol!

  • JayDee659

Yes, it's good to have friends!  Silly girl.

  • NickSydmom

I signed up for informed delivery. How long have they been doing that?
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Nicknukemom - I wasn't even sure what this was until you posted it so I don't know how long the post office has been doing it.  But it's interesting that you can see all the mail that's been delivered to you and they will email you (if you want) pictures of all the mail and packages delivered.  I guess they are trying to combat mail theft.  I went ahead and signed up for it.....

  • NickSydmom

B'snukemom I used to work for the post office and I've never heard of it until the moms here were talking about it. I was wondering if it had been going when I worked there. I thought the mail lady was the first to know.
  • MichianaMom

I am pretty sure informed delivery just started a week or so ago.

JayDee love the picture. And it's amazing she is getting to see so many places!

If I got a room at the Hilton at O'Hara, would my son be able to hang out in the room until he leaves for goose creek? The hotel is in the airport, with its own entrance directly to the terminals. Does anyone know?
  • TessaNator⚓️

Nicksnukemom: I have a room at O'Hare for Friday - Monday. Some other moms said this is good because kids are actually in airport and can get to gate easier (no traffic!). They can hang out w/family until close to departure.
If kids go to THU....then he can hang out during day for several days...assuming I got the correct info.
I would call recruiter again and find out if he got his wisdom teeth out and if he is in recovery.
But as for room, I would ask admin to b sure
  • jberg12

TessaNator, for this past PIR, none of the Nukes knew whether they would be going on to Goose Creek or kept in THU until after battle stations when they went to pick up their orders.

As far as the Hilton at O'Hare, I don't know since my Nuke flew out of Midway. The only issue I see is that if your Nuke is flying out of Midway, the O'Hare Hilton doesn't benefit you at all, and it's a pretty good haul from Great Lakes if your Sailor wants to just hang out in the hotel after PIR on Friday. You would have to give yourself extra time to make it back to base before curfew, there are NO EXCUSES for being late because of traffic, etc.

  • jberg12

I signed up for informed delivery in May, so it's been around at least since then. I loved it while my son was in boot camp, I always knew when to stalk my mail carrier for my letters! Its also helpful when you're waiting for anything important or valuable.

  • NickSydmom

Don't the nukes have to fly out Saturday morning
  • tchrkat75

My son's PIR was last Friday and he's in Goose Creek now. I would not suggest staying at O'Hare. My son flew out of Midway and I wouldn't want to deal with all of the airport traffic coming and going to the hotel. It's definitely not convenient to Great Lakes. They were not allowed to leave the airport or their group for that matter at the airport. We stayed at the Navy Lodge and it was perfect. That's my best suggestion for a place to stay.
  • nurserenee

My son graduated nuke prototype school, but didn't make it to graduation due to no communication to his group on the 1100 graduation being moved to 9 .......did anyone else in this group encounter this with your
    Nuke ?
  • NickSydmom

I keep checking the navy lodge it's sold out. I am hopeful there will be a cancellation
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Friday!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

I've got my RED on :)
