It's our anniversary on Sunday - #29 (and 35 years together!). (Many of you old timers have seen this picture before but I love to share it lol!).  We're going to the zoo on Saturday and then we head to VA next week.  Can't wait :)

  • NickSydmom

Thanks for posting the dog pic, you put a smile on my face

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Thanks Esti'sMom - I know we will have fun.  Just gotta get my packing done....this is definitely how we do it lol!

  • ANavyMom

I'm back again.  Joined last month when I thought my son was leaving for OCS July 16.  Paperwork issues backed him up to reporting for OCS Aug 27.  Any suggestions are welcome to this 1st time Navy Mom!

    Welcome back ANavyMom!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Have a good weekend everyone!

For those with Sailor's on deployment....remember, you are one day closer!

  • NickSydmom

I finally got a letter from my guy. He seems to be doing okay. I'm still waiting on the form letter. I've never been happier to see that messy handwriting.
  • SailorsLIMom

Hello y'all!  I got mixed up with the Navymom websites and forgot there's this one for us nuke moms!  The site is so valuable.  Our daughter went to GC recently and it's so great to be in touch again after the long silence of Basic Training.  Her group had their first test and she passed, yay!  She says they get a lot of learning support from instructors, that help is always available. Any tips from you experienced moms on visiting Charleston?  We thought to go down there around Labor Day.  We know she can't stay out overnight, but can certainly see her a lot.  Plus, see Charleston, where we've never been.

  • JayDee659

SailorsLImom she might be able to stay with you for the night in September! You'll have to play that by ear, but don't let that stop you from going. We stayed at North Ashley Phosphate as the places in GC aren't super. There's lots to do in Charleston and Folly Beach is a favorite. Enjoy your time with her!
  • NickSydmom

Good news two days in a row. Today I got a phone call.
  • NickSydmom

He said there were 4 nukes when they started and have 3 left. I feel bad for the kids that don't make it. I'm sure they will land on their feet, but it has to be disappointing.
  • Christie_Okie

Nichnukemom....are you talking about Div 276? If so, my sons a nuke so if your sons a nuke also from same division then there are 2 nukes left.
  • NickSydmom

Christie okie he said there are 3 left one of them was sent home. He said there are 72 left in their division, I think they started with around 90. I am so happy your guy is still there, I was worried that the boy who was sent home would be one of the ladies on here.
  • TessaNator⚓️

Hi Nuke moms!  Anyone know how much the challenge coins cost at PIR?  Just wondering, I am not wanting to stand in long lines, so if cost same as ebay ($21.95) then I will just buy ahead.....Thanks ahead of time for answering this!

I am thinking of 3 coins:  1 for his ship, 1 for BST-21, and then also a coin for RTC Great Lakes....

  • SailorsLIMom

JayDee659,, thanks so  much!  I'll check it out.  It will surely be a good time to see Charleston, which we've never visited. And there will be fewer bugs around Labor Day--I know, because we used to live in Atlanta, which is also below the "gnat line." ;))

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Monday!

PattiP - saw your photos on FB yesterday.  Looks like a fun time at the zoo for your birthday!  Glad it was a good one.  And little Fiona is so cute :)

SailorsLIMom - there's a discussion up above of things to do in GC - I'll bump it. There's lots to do there!

TessaNator - not sure about the cost of coins at PIR.  We bought ours on Ebay.....Just an FYI - the lines in the NEX are very long at PIR but they try to move everyone through in a timely manner!

2 more days & we are on our way to VA!  Talked to B yesterday and he said the weather will be cooling a bit while we are there so it will be below 90.  Yay!  But it looks like a big storm is heading that way so we might be in for a bunch of rain while there - boo!  Oh well, that's fine.  We'll just hang out & visit!

  • fingerprintchick

My son is 276 starboard watch. And one of the nukes. Got a call Saturday, He said the division is pretty average. But they're doing ok. He gets IT'd several times a day Because of the division watchbill, but said things are good.
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

I bumped a sightseeing discussion above - it wasn't the one I was looking for - not sure where it went - but maybe everyone could take a look at it and update with some places you recommend.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Welcome to our newest member ~ Anne!

B'snukemom, where and when is this fabulous vacation?
  • CO-TwinSalorsMom

I just heard today that April the Giraffe that everyone online was waiting to see born has died. How sad. She apparently had trouble eating.

  • TessaNator⚓️

I booked at Steven's for 5:30, had no idea what time to make reservations.  My son has to be back on base that night (flys to GC next morning) so I was just guessing.

If anyone has experience ,  a time range of what time to have them back....please share...

I know it varies,,,,but need an idea. thx

  • AZ2OH2IL2UT

TessaNator- My son was told 8 PM, but they actually didn't have to be back until 9PM or 10PM. LOL. I think they wanted to make sure NO ONE was late. He got back in plenty of time. My son also had to fly out first thing on Saturday morning. Enjoy!!!

  • fingerprintchick

My future Nuke, expected PIR of 9/1, told me Saturday that there was a SLIM chance they may get to stay in GL through the holiday weekend, but not to count in it.
  • JayDee659

PattiP the pictures of Fiona are adorable!  I'm hoping to get up there soon and see her.

We spent last weekend in my hometown in Michigan with my best friend (known her since I was 4).  We enjoyed her husbands band and spent a day in Frankenmuth shopping at Bronners and eating chicken at Zehnder's.  Oh my goodness, I should never eat again!  LOL.

My sailor called me yesterday.  They're almost done with their port call and she had duty so she was on the ship.  She was all chatty and happy, so nice to hear her voice.

Hubby and I are celebrating our 30 year anniversary today.  Don't know where the time went...

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

JayDee, congratulations! That is quite an achievement in this day and age. Enjoy the day!

Welcome new moms! This site is a great resource and terrific support. We're glad to have you.

I didn't get caught up in the April giraffe thing but that makes me sad. :(  I'm glad Fiona is thriving.

My sailor is on an underway right now missing his daughter's birthday today. But they had a nice little party on Saturday and he'll only be gone a couple weeks. That's navy life.

I remember when my son had PIR 7 yrs ago he had to be back by 8 but insisted he be back by 7. They get drummed into their heads that being late is BAD. We ate earlier than 5:30. It might even have been 4 or 4:30. We didn't want to rush and definitely didn't want to be late. But that was 7 yrs ago so might now be accurate for these days.

B'sNuke, you have a fantastic vacation. You have been looking forward to this for a long time. Yahoo!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Tuesday!!!

Happy Anniversary JayDee!!!! I know what you mean about where did the time go lol!

NancyJo - sorry your son is missing the bday today but I'll bet they had a good time on Saturday :)  Sending birthday wishes to your sweet granddaughter.

CoTwin - well that's sad news about April.  I did follow her birth and I did not hear that news :(

Nicknukemom - our vacation is to VA to visit our son.  Not the most exotic of vacations but that's ok!  I just wish the weather was going to be a little more cooperative lol!  And now with his car mishap we'll be looking at cars with him.  But that's ok, it's a vacation and I'll get to hug my son :)

Don't worry Patti - every sailor I see I'll make sure to tell them to phone home lol!

BoyWonderMom - are you going to be in the area while we are there?  If so I'm hoping we can get together.  Anyone else in the area I'd love to meet up.

I'll be checking in on here but it's hard for me to respond from my phone (can't post any graphics from my phone unfortunately).  So don't think I've forgotten about you all lol!  Of course you still have me the rest of the day too  ;-D

  • JayDee659

B'sNukeMom, I'll miss you in VA by a couple weeks. :(
  • jberg12

What goes on at Goose Creek around the Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays? Do they still have classes? Do they get any leave? My son just arrived there last week, and I'm trying to make plans to see him during the holidays. I hate the thought of him being alone on Christmas. Thanks!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Ah JayDee - that's a bummer - I so would have loved to get together....

jberg - they are usually on Holiday stand down at Christmas so your son may get some leave time.  It might not be the actual week of Christmas as they split the time off.  But with that being said it's not a guarantee they will get leave.  Someone has to stay and stand watch.  Best bet is to make sure he pays attention when his LPO starts talking about holiday leave and if it is offered he gets his chit in right away.  Remember ~ it all comes down to the needs of the Navy!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

If anyone has some updated sightseeing tips for GC please add them to the discussion above.

  • joshsmom

TessaNator - My son's PIR was 3/10. We aslo went to Stevens for dinner. It was very good. My son had to be back at 9pm. I think our reservation was at 5. He wanted to go back right after dinner. We went on base with him and went to the NEX and hung out with him in the rec hall which is in the same building as the NEX until he went back around 8. They have a little bit of a walk back to their ship and he didn't want to be late. We met him at Midway airport at 2am Saturday.

Ooh, my husband got me an Instant Pot! I'm so excited to try it!
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Oh JayDee - there's a FB page specifically for the Instant Pot.  I follow but don't comment on it (there's over 500,000 members!).  They have LOTS of recipes.  I can add you to the group if you like so you can see all the goodies they have.  I had one sent to B in VA and am going to give him & his roommates some lessons while I am there lol!

  • JayDee659

B'sNukeMom that would be wonderful, please add me. I'm really excited about trying out my pot!
  • TessaNator⚓️

i have been told they get Christmas break they can go home 7-10 days.

  • Qenime

My son asked us to come to Charleston to visit with him for Christmas.  He will still be in A school, in Phase 3, but he did not think he could go away for leave, although he thinks he will have time off.  He is still waiting for his class to start in the next week or two, and then he should get more information.

  • JayDee659

My daughter was in A school during Christmas. She did get leave and was home for about a week. Some of the class was home over Christmas some over New Years,it was luck of the draw. We have Christmas when we can, I'm just thankful to have her home.
  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

JayDee, how exciting! You must have been sharing the N4Ms chatter with him. ;D  Good luck with the IP and keep us posted.

  • BoyWonderMom

Good morning nuke moms! Hope everything is well with your sailors in school and on the fleet.
I haven't been posting but try to follow as much as I can. So many new moms here, I think is in order to introduce myself.
My son is a MMN, been in since 2013. He's now on a carrier based in Norfolk. He's got a little over a year and a half left in his contract. We are in Florida, my husband is a navy vet.
B'sNuke, as much as I tried to be in Norfolk this month, it wasn't possible. I was so excited because we had it all planned. We were to pick up my son's old Jeep to bring it back to Fl. Had our reservations and everything. My son is really busy at work since they are always getting ready for something. Our Nukes are always first in last ones out. He has not been able to get the Jeep ready to drive. So since there's no point on going and come back without a car we have decided to postpone. We will be there again the first week of October for his command's friends and family's picnic. I was so looking forward to meeting you. We were in Norfolk this past June and had the best time, by ourselfs, since the sailor was always at work.
He's doing remarkably well and been taking college credits getting himself ready to detach.
We went to Charleston and stayed at the villas, saw a random Friday power school graduation excitement. How things have changed in a few years! We also visited Kings bay on our way down to Fl. Got to talk to a lot of our nukes.
Have the best time with your son and his shipmates in Norfolk, B'sNuke!
The best to all the new sailors starting the nuke path. :)
  • bigsky21

Good morning all, my son got a call yesterday and was told there was a spot for him to leave for GL at the end of this month if he wants it instead of waiting until Feb - I think he's going to take it. I know there's a "things to do in the 30 days before you leave list", but for the life of me I can't find it! Can someone tell me where to find it please? I'm sure it's probably right under my nose but I'm feeling a little anxious today I think :(

  • CLO

My son had PIR on July 21st.  He has been in GL since.  He got his physical paperwork complete yesterday and will leave for nuke school tomorrow!  He is so happy to be done with his hold.  There were over 100 special ops and nuke on hold due to physician signature paperwork problems........excited to see what is in our future when he arrives at school.

  • bigsky21

Hold on - I found it! It was right under my nose :)

  • SailorsLIMom

Bigsky21, I have to tell you this story: Many decades ago, I was traveling through Montana with some German friends.  The license plates read "Big Sky Country" because of the, well, amazingly vast sky there. After a few days, one of my friends turned to me and asked, "Who is this Bigsky?  A famous politician?"  lol

  • bigsky21

lol SailorsLIMom, that's good stuff! :)
