This is absolutely heartbreaking news about the accident on the USS John S. McCain.  Please keep the entire crew in your prayers.

Any new news on the missing 10 sailors?
  • Esti'sMom

I heard about the USS John S. McCain this morning:( So very sad... praying for the crew!
  • NickSydmom

I can't believe this is happening again. How awful for these families.
  • WifeNMudder

As of the top of the hour, still searching for the sailors. Prayers for these sailors and their devastated families.

  • WifeNMudder

One week left before my future sailor and Nuke head off to BT. He's getting excited - I'm getting, well, not so excited. Trying to spend as much time together now. Cleaned out his room and packed everything up. Already too quiet at home. He's so proud to have been accepted in Nuke and can't wait to get through basic and into A School.

  • TessaNator⚓️

My gut feeling is these are not accidents. We never heard much about the last 'accident' other than the initial news. Could this be terrorism involved. There are a ton of Islamic radicals in South Pacific now, they are a problem everywhere.
How is it this happened twice in 6 weeks?
  • NickSydmom

tessanator, I agree this is strange . 4 incidents since January seems too coincidental.
  • TessaNator⚓️

nicksnumemom:  This is disheartening.  I'm feeling better that my son is going to be a nuke and on an aircraft carrier.  But, my heart goes out to these families, the families may not even know yet who is missing.....

If I were able, I'd 'mother bomb' all the radicals in a heartbeat.

  • TessaNator⚓️

    Hi All,

Been putting military humor cartoons and inspirational quotes in my sons letters everyday, and the same in xtra letters 3xweek for sailors without mail.

Ck these or similar websites out:

    http://afwm.org/pre-grad/motivational-quotes/

  • TessaNator⚓️

Just read news, they are investigating USS McCain, think it may be cyber hacking to blame for all the accidents of the 7th fleet
  • ProudOfK

TessaNator - I have to agree that all of these 'accidents' in such a short period of time are starting to look like there is something more going on.  I can't imagine these poor families.

On a happier note I am getting very excited - we leave Wednesday morning to go see our sailor in GC.  Not sure how much we'll get to see him - hopefully Friday night and Saturday at least.  Hoping maybe to meet him for a quick dinner on Thursday.  Whatever time we get will be wonderful.  First time to see him since PIR the end of April!

  • Pooh'sMom

I read a news article stating they lost their steering, but didn't use their back up steering.   (Not that I'm stating this is valid.)
It's heart-breaking what these families are having to endure.

  • JayDee659

J's /S's mom my husband and I just had the same conversation. You're right, it may be the other shops being hacked but why our highly maneuverable ships couldn't react in time is an unsettling mystery.

I just came in from a Tiger Cruise yesterday. The sailors were all wondering if the shop would drop off the Tigers then have their deployment extended. My daughter was so relieved to get off the ship and see her husband.
  • NickSydmom

Why do we let other ships get that close to us? My heart is breaking for these families. Tessanator I am also glad my son will be on an aircraft carrier. Our sons are on the same path. They will probably be roommates at Nuke school. My guy got EM, will they be at A school together too?
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Tuesday!

JayDee - enjoy your time there in VA!  So glad you got to do the Tiger Cruise - that sounds awesome :)  Make sure you get to the Mermaid Factory!

I'm leaving in a little bit to meet up with NancyJo in San Diego.  Can't wait :)

    Have a good day all!

  • OneofEight

It is so nice when they get their phones back and the lines of communication are open again, if only occasionally. I will take that : )

  • TessaNator⚓️

NicksNukeMom:  I am sure I boys will be going to Nuke school together, I think 3-4 to a room.  YOur 266...right.  Last I heard 30 nukes in 265...so would be great if roomies.

I hope flights are full due to Holiday weekend and our future Nukes get another day with family.

I leave wednesday also, it cant come quick enough!

  • JayDee659

Thanks B'sNukeMom. No mermaid factory. Beach today then fly home tomorrow. The cruise was incredible. I got to see Homecoming from the other side and it was amazing. Will post some pictures after I get home and settled.
  • Soccer Mom

Ahhh, the open lines of communication! My son was in GC on July 25th. Hey and I texted almost everyday,if just a quick note. Aug 13 and 14th my husband visited with him to bring him his clothes, etc..August 15th we talked a little on the phone. Not a word since. No response to a question, no answer if he received birthday cards that had CASH in them..nothing. So much for having a phone!!
  • submomIII

My son's hometown buddy, who spent time at our house a bit before they both joined, was on the USS McCain.  He is OK.  Prayers for all the families and sailors affected by this, and also prayers for the Navy in general to figure this out.

  • NickSydmom

Tessanator my guy is 276 and he is the only nuke left in his division, the other guys weren't sent home, they just got set back. They will still make it , it will just take longer. I'm happy to hear there are so many in other divisions, my son commented he might be flying alone to goose creek. I can't wait to see them.
  • rjkj1

My daughter is in 259 and will graduate Friday.I see some of you know how many nukes are in a division.I don't know how many are in my daughter's division, but will all the nukes that graduate on the same day generally fly out together?

  • JayDee659

Pattip it was a great time. It's amazing to see the responsibility that's on each and every one of the sailors. My daughters berthing area is forward and when you stand in their "lounge" area (which consists of a card table and some office chairs) you see a sloping wall. On the other side of that wall is the ocean. There are ladies who sleep along that wall. As I looked at it I couldn't help but think of the Fitzgerald. Then I thought about the sealable hatches that I came through to get to that compartment. I tell you the reality hits you hard at that point. We did not hear about the McCain until we were back in Norfolk. I sure hope they figure this out, and fix it yesterday!
  • SailorsLIMom

It is so heartbreaking, JayDee659, your description of the berthing area makes it all too real.  Thank God the Navy is taking steps to solve this.  I worried that our daughter, a new Nuke at GC, would be freaked out, but she seems undaunted. Confidence in the Navy, plus the invulnerability of youth!

  • JayDee659

Ad I was standing in the lounge talking with some of these ladies they said "if we get hit here we're all screwed". It was a fact. It was the same way I'd think known about being hit in an intersection while in my car. The thing I'm getting at is that there are dangers everywhere and we do our jobs and move on. These amazing men and women who guard our country think of it the same way. God bless them all.
  • Chipmunk

rjkj1 - My SR is in Div 264 with PIR on Friday as well. As of yet, I have not received an "I'm a Sailor" call which is difficult with our travel plans but trust all is going well. I believe 264 is a mixed division (male / female) but not sure, and only know of one other nuke, of opposite sex,  that my SR has commented about. (mostly that surprised me since I didn't think they were to be mingling, but evidently are.)

If you are going to Sarge's Meet n Greet look for Div 264 and ask for me by my user name, Chipmunk, it would be great to make connections.

  • JayDee659

Chipmunk, my daughter met her husband in boot camp. They have brother and sister divisions and they do talk a bit.
  • rjkj1

Chipmunk-I will not be going to the meet and greet Thursday, because of meeting w family members and the timing of it all.I know what you mean about the travel plans. My daughter called last Friday and said 'I won't be graduating on time' but then called Monday to say she passed her pfa and would be graduating. It is so hard waiting! My daughter did mention a time awhile ago when she got to actually talk to males in her division. It was just that one time I believe and I don't know why.I think of 50 million questions to ask her when she calls, but then when she calls I forget everything because I'm so excited to hear her voice!

  • Chipmunk

JayDee659 - So, then I am assuming that females are in one division and males are in another division, but they work together. If that is the case it makes sense. - No matter what the situation, I am not bothered, it just surprised me.

That is great that your daughter met her husband in boot camp!

  • Chipmunk

rjkj1, I am sorry I won't be able to meet you on Thursday. I am sure it was good news for you that your daughter passed her pfa!

I understand about the questions. We have only had two calls after the scripted one and I had know idea when to expect it. Only my husband and I were able to talk that time, and the next one, I was driving and couldn't get to my phone fast enough. Thankfully, we had another call on my husband's phone that is connected to the car and so we were able to have it on speaker and some of the kids were with us which worked out well. But I accidently deleted the voice message on my cell which really aggravated me!

Safe travels!! Maybe we will meet at the airport.

  • ProudOfK

rjkj1 - I just had to LOL when I read your comment about 50 million questions and then forgetting everything when she calls because you're so excited.  Isn't that the way it is?  And then as soon as you get off the phone the questions all come flooding back.  My thoughts are with you all with your sailors in bootcamp - the limited communication is so hard.  But it's so worth it when you see them.

And speaking of seeing then - travel day today and tomorrow we will get to see our nuke!

  • MichianaMom

My Sailor has his official orders and will be heading to the Stennis in December. He was hoping for this as he knows several nukes on the Stennis, as well as a good buddy he hung out with in BS. Happy he will be home for about 30 days and looking forward to visiting him and exploring the beautiful Pacific NW!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Wednesday!

NancyJo and I had a wonderful visit!  We talked & talked & talked some more lol!  We had met before about 2 years ago so we had a lot to cover.  I love being able to meet up with Navy moms :)  I told her hi from everyone and even got extra hugs.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

As for the phone call conversation - I always kept a notepad handy and would write things/questions down as I thought of them.  That way when B called I could remember things!  I kept that notepad with me everywhere I went since I never knew when a call might come in.  It did help!

rjkj1 - so glad your daughter passed her PFA and will graduate with her division - have fun at PIR!.

MichianaMom - happy your son is happy with his orders!  He will enjoy WA.

ProudOfK - safe travels and enjoy your visit!

JayDee - it just breaks my heart to think about them sealing the hatches....

  • Buzzbeck

Hi Sea Sisters, long time no see. Our Proto grad sailor was here for about a month, and just left yesterday for Hawaii. It was so nice having boots in the house! The tension from 2 years in the pipeline just slowly melted away. He was able to attend our daughter's wedding. You remember, we had to create a pasture into a park like setting here at our place. Mr. Buzzbeck BBQed 100 lbs of meat, we fed 175. Our sailor also camped & fished in the mtns and watched the Eclipse with friends. He is ready to move on to his assignment. Sure will miss him. But it was an exhausting month. I'll be praying for him and all our sailors.
Jaycee, lucky you and the Tiger Cruise! I love hearing about your nukette. You get more info from her in one day that I got in a month from our nuke.

KamMom, I see your nuke is gone also. You got to see the Eclipsed too!

Welcome to all the new moms. This group is a life line!!!
  • CSW

Enjoy your time home with your sailors.  As they get older it gets more and more difficult to get them all together.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi all - Happy Thursday - Almost Friday!

J's/S'smom - thanks!  NancyJo isn't back yet though....she still has a few more days with her sailor and family.  You enjoy your time with your sailors - nice that you'll have them both home!

Buzzbeck - glad to hear everything went well with the wedding!  We would love to see pictures if you care to share :)  And I agree - Wow! to Mr Buzzbeck - give him a big pat on the back.  I'm so glad your sailor was there for the celebration and got to relax and have fun with his friends & family.

TessaNator - nice that you are doing the Starbucks gathering for PIR.  Have you made sure to post it in your PIR group too?

Ceej0347 - make sure you tell your son to be in top physical shape before he leaves for BC.  He should be able to complete his run and all the requirements (including the swimming).  Also they will give him a book in DEP with items to have memorized.  Make sure he does this before he goes.  It's just less to worry about when he gets to BC.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Welcome to our newest member ~ Green2Blue!  Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

  • Ceej0347

B'sNukeMoM- thanks for the info. We have already began studying. The little brothers have begun quizzing and helping memorize. Was pretty active in HS so it's just maintaining the physical activity while we wait for bc. Just trying to enjoy the few months I still have left to make and remember the memories. I've already seen auch a change/growth since he enlisted- 'My baby no more - a grownup sailor forevermore!'
  • JayDee659

Buzzbeck, so good to see you again!  Sounds like the wedding was a huge success.  175# of meat - oh my, that's a lot of COW!  Ha!

Ladies the Tiger Cruise was completely amazing.  I have never gone up and down so many stairs nor stood in line for so long.  Meal lines were about an hour each and stretched all across the hangar and down a couple levels to the galley.  I have never been so sweaty in my entire life.  I actually lost 9#.

Of course, I didn't get to go go work with my daughter but met lots of the people she does work with.  I actually enjoyed the racks.  I was in a middle one and yes, it was like sleeping in a coffin.  But it was cool and dark and the gentle swaying of the ship put me right to sleep.

Here are a few pictures.  Ladies, if you ever have the opportunity to go on Tiger Cruise, don't pass it up!

  • Chipmunk

Ceej0347 - Posting notes in the car, and then a bump and it all disappeared!! I will try to remember what I was going to say. I agree with B'sNukeMoM - to add to that. My SR was in DEP for a year but busy with school work so had not done a lot of the memorizing. It is great that your recruit has help from little brothers.

I would say, if your son has any issues with the type of shoes that he wears when running you check out the Navy shoes they will issue them if you can from your recruiter. My SR commented that the arch supports in the shoes they had to wear for running were very uncomfortable and it affected run time.

Another thing, as hard as it is, be prepared for the possibility of a call up for an earlier ship out date. My DEP would have been shipped out a month earlier if it wasn't for the fact that we still had to complete high school!!

Also give your DEP as much freedom with time to do what he wants before leaving for boot camp - within reason. He can still do chores, but computer time, family time, friend time, games with siblings anything that he might realize is going to be a long time getting to do what he wants to do.
