E'sproudmom - ALL studying is done in the Rickover building.  The material is confidential/classified and nothing is done outside.  They spend lots of time in there!

  • submomIII

We just returned back to California from going to see the Notre Dame/Navy football game last weekend.  It was cold and wet!!  They have a wonderful history together, and it's not a rivalry at all - it is definitely a camaraderie.  We decided a few years ago to try and attend that game as a family, though our son wasn't able to make it this year.  Daughter was in the ND band, and son is a Nuke.  He went to that game a few years ago to see his sister - wore his uniform, but rooted for ND.  The band, as they do every year around Veteran's Day, did a military tribute to all branches.  There was supposed to be an F18 flyover as well, but due to the weather that didn't happen.  ND won this year, but it wasn't an easy win.  It did warm my heart to see all those sailors, and it's a beautiful campus to visit.  Next year, it will be played in San Diego, so we're hoping for better weather!!

  • E's ⚓proud⚓ mom

SubmomIII, I have a photo of the flyover from the UCF/Navy game. I will post it in the photos on here. My oldest son is a cheerleader at UCF, my middle son is in boot camp now and going to Goose Creek after.
  • Grannyofnine

OH PattiP, I'm so glad your son will be home. I'm sure you are super excited. Sorry your daughter can't make it.

    Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
  • Pat L. in IL

    PattiP, WooHoo!! Enjoy every minute!

  • Buzzbeck

    That's great news PattiP! Yay
  • Chipmunk

Morning all -   submomIII - Fun football times!! How exciting   PattiP, I know you are looking forward to having your sailor home!!

  • Nukelukesmom

Yesterday was my Sailor's birthday. It was tough being away from him for the first time on his birthday. I was so happy to find a local Navy mom at Goose Creek who so generously delivered a cake and gift to him for me. It made a hard day a lot easier knowing that someone was there to make it special for him.

  • Chipmunk

Nukelukesmom - How awesome!!!  Great networking as well. I think missing my son's 1st birthday away from home was also my hardest, more so than holidays. Nice picture!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Tuesday!

PattiP - yay!  So happy you get to spend Thanksgiving with your son ;)  Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

submoIII - we watched the game - and it was wet!  How fun that you were there.  It's on my bucket list to get to a Navy game.  Maybe next year since it's in San Diego - that's doable for me!

I made some cranberry sauce in my Instant Pot - it turned out so yummy!  I've always just had the canned type - not this year!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Nukelukesmom - Happy Belated Birthday to your son!

  • JayDee659

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  • PacNWmom

I woke up yesterday morning to unexpected boots in the house! YIPPEE! He had told me he was not able to come home for Thanksgiving. All the while he was planning to surprise me. Love that kid!

  • Chipmunk

PacNWmom - How wonderful!!! So happy for you!!

B'sNukeMoM⚓️MM - Please share your cranberry sauce recipe in the IP discussion. Thanks

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

PacNWmom - woohoo!!!!! best surprise ever!  Enjoy ;)

    JayDee - haha I'm cracking up - that's hysterical!

Chipmunk - I will post it in the discussion - it's so quick & easy.

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

    JayDee, hysterical!! I love it.

PattiP, how wonderful for you! Be sure and give your sailor lots of N4M hugs for the rest of us. It pays to be out of Japan now, doesn't it? I'm glad he got the Japan experience but it's so great having him around now and then. ;)

  • Mammagoose

Good afternoon ladies,  There has been chatter on the nuke parents and spouses FB group that the sailors don't have enough time to eat.  It is concerning to me because of well - my son is skinny and doesn't have anything to lose.  Is this the case and if so, how can I help my son make that time adjustment?  What do your sailors do?

  • CSW

Mammagoose, It's my understanding that it's difficult to pull away from studying to go eat and then come back to study more. I tried to help bridge that gap for my sailor by sending a box full of easy snacks/foods including meat sticks, pre-cooked bacon, spam so if he was studying late he had some more savory, filling food back at the room. It's sort of fun looking for a variety of food that is good to eat and easy and it makes me feel like I'm doing something to support. Not a lot but some. They can always go to the NEX or Walmart and get some food and/or they can get sack lunches in the mess.  Goose Creek has the reputation for having some of the BEST if not the BEST food in the Navy.  It's just taking the time to enjoy it. I'm sure they'll get a treat at Thanksgiving.

  • carleys_nana

Time for me to say good-bye as granddaughter is no longer in SC but now in FL......a change for the better.  I wish nothing but the best for all of you and your sailors on the journey of a lifetime.....and a very Happy Turkey Day!!!  Would like to check back in on occasion and see how you all are doing, but for now; thanks for all the help and advice!!!!

  • Pat L. in IL

Mammagoose, As the mother of an Instructor at GC, they have time to eat. Depending on the amount of mandatory study hours in the evening, he may have to eat dinner early?? So maybe it is a time management issue.......PLEASE don't take this the wrong way but the only person who can figure it out is your sailor. Best wishes....he will be fine!

  • bythistimenextyear

My son turned 20 on the 19th.  His dad would celebrate with him at deer camp. They all missed him there and I certainly missed him here, but we were able to talk on the phone. I'm going to see him in a couple weeks at A School graduation in Goose Creek, SC so I will hug him then (and probably not want to stop!)

  • Chipmunk

carleys_nana - We are sorry to see you go. For sure, check back in with us, and keep us posted on your daughter's progress.

Mammagoose - My son told me that I think they only have about 40 min for lunch time, and they have to stand it line for the galley. Also, until they have phased up 3 - they have to line up and all march in together, so they don't have that time either. But they are allowed to take their food from the galley back to the Rickover, where they are studying. Also, he said the MM's have their classes on the 1st floor, EM's on 2nd and ET on 3rd floor, so it takes longer to get from upper levels to the galley.

  • Chipmunk

Yes, prayers for all the sailors involved and their families. I opened my email this morning to my husband sending me the information. None of my other groups have commented but I knew ours would have noticed.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! It is baking day, but the turkey is already done!!! yeah - looking forward to family tomorrow and hopefully a skype visit with our sailor.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Wednesday.

Sad news indeed - I hope they can find the other missing and that everyone will be ok.

My dad sent me some pictures last night - he was at a little get together with James Mattis the Secretary of Defense.  My dad lives in WA state and Mattis is from there too.

Is everyone ready for Thanksgiving?  This will be our 6th Thanksgiving without B - luckily his roommates family shows up and they do a big Thanksgiving feast - and his GF is flying in from MI to spend it with him too.  We spend it with my in-laws.....we'll be looking forward to a skype session too!

sheltiebear - happy belated birthday to your Sailor!  I'm sure you are counting down the days until A school grad and you can get your hugs!

carleys_nana - wishing the best of luck to your grand daughter!  I'm sure everything will work out - what is her new rate?  Please keep us posted on how she is doing ;)

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

  • JayDee659

B'sNukeMom, my sister-in-law is our holiday hostess.  All I need to do is make the stuffing and bake a cranberry cake (maybe I'll take a few bottles of wine...).  Our sailor cannot join us this year but she and her husband are getting together with some other sailors in Norfolk and having a feast.  My oldest daughter and her boyfriend will be home.  This will be the fist time in about 6 years that she's come home for Thanksgiving and I'm super excited.  I have to stop myself from texting her and asking if she's on the road yet LOL.

Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.  I'm thankful for all my sea sisters who have made my Navy journey much easier and certainly a lot of fun!  B'sNukeMom, NancyJo, Buzzbeck, J's\S's mom, PattiP, KAM mom, thank you for your support especially!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

JayDee - I saw this recipe for Cranberry Brie bites.  I haven't tried it yet, but I did save it because it looks so yummy and easy too!  (And you can make the cranberries in your IP!).  Maybe you could do this instead of the cake!

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

    carleys nana, keep in touch. Those of us who have been around for a while know that rerates are almost always a good thing. Doing a job is a lot like buying a pair of shoes. Sometimes the fit just isn't right so you move on to the model. I know many of us like to hear how all the sailors of our Sea Sisters fare. Please keep in touch. {{N4M hugs}}

Aww, JayDee, you made me tear up a little. Some of us veterans have seen a lot, haven't we? I love all you gals too and even tho I have not met many, I feel like you are all family to me.

I go to my daughter's always for Thanksgiving and my 3rd daughter comes too. (Daughter 2 has a tradition with her best friend so is never with us this day. :(  ) Anyway, Daughter 1 is expecting her 6th baby, due date Monday. She loves hosting holidays and this way will be at home if anything gets moving baby wise. I just love those babies. I never get enough of them. My daughter has only reached the due date once so far so I'm hoping over the holiday it happens. Prayers, please, for a safe delivery.

My sailor is just back from an underway so will be with his family in SD for the holiday and will also be there for Christmas. Then he prepares for deployment. It will be his last, thank God.

    Happy Thanksgiving, dear Sea Sisters!

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

B'sNuke, Daughter 2 makes that brie thing and it's fabu! Go for it!

  • JayDee659

Sounds like everyone has some good plans for the holiday, enjoy!

B'sNukeMom if I showed up without that cake they'd kill me. It's my mom's recipe and it's become a favorite of my husband's family. Mom would be so tickled about that.
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

NancyJo - I'm lol'ing at your post - good one!  I'm going to have to borrow that one ;-)

I too am so thankful for all my sea sisters on N4M.  I've been fortunate enough to meet a few of you but you are all near & dear to my heart.  You really have NO idea how much you all mean to me.....l agree with NancyJo - you are all family to me <3

NancyJo - I'm guessing you'll be enjoying the arrival of grandbaby #6 this Holiday - what a blessing!  Good to hear that J will be able to spend Thanksgiving & Christmas with his family before his last deployment.  It's going to be a warm one in SoCal!  They are talking record breaking heat.  Oh nice to hear that your daughter has made the brie and it's a good recipe.  I might have to give it a try sooner rather than later.

JayDee - yep, you don't want to disappoint the family - that's nice that you use your mom's recipe.  What a wonderful tradition.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!  If you are lucky enough to have your sailor home be sure to get extra hugs.

    Be safe......

  • Rebecca J

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. My sailor is home. I know this will be his last thanksgiving with us for quite some time. I'm planning on enjoying the moments with him.
  • Chipmunk

Rebecca J - glad to hear you have boots in the house. Enjoy!!!

  • Buzzbeck

I am so thankful for all of you. It has dawned on me that knowing other sailors were raised by such awesome women gives me great peace of mind. Our sailor is surrounded by very capable young men and women. God bless you all this week.
  • ProudOfK

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I can tell you I'm very thankful for this wonderful group of moms. And I'm also thankful that although my son isn't with us today he is with some very wonderful people in Charleston from our church - I actually knew the mom and dad here in Washington years ago. And then our son will be home with us in just a few weeks!

  • submomIII

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!  Extremely thankful for this group - and all of our sailors serving.

  • Chipmunk

Happy Thanksgiving all!! I know it is late and the day is over, but I cooked Thanksgiving dinner for the first time since I think we lived in WA - we always travel to family - but with grown children we have to work around their schedule. We did get to skype with our son and even had our meal grace with him as he wasn't eating till later. Also, had a single mom and family which was a wonderful blessing! Sort of my way to give back for others who are blessing my son!

    Enjoy your weekend!!!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi everyone - Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  We got to face time with B - they had a huge group of friends/family at their place and had a lot of fun.  It was cold for him in VA but we had 90+ temps here in SoCal!

It was nice to have a 4 day weekend but now it's back to work lol.  I managed to get a little of my Christmas shopping done too so that was good - didn't brave the Black Friday crowds though.

I found this fabulous soap at Duluth Trading Company and got a bar for my sailor and one for her husband.  They had an army themed one also.  I thought you ladies might be interested or at least find it as amusing as I did.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

JayDee - I bought some soap from them a couple years ago - it was Navy themed too but it was a little different packaging.  Sent it to B - it smelled so good - he really liked it!

  • SailorsLIMom

Love the soap!  it's also on Amazon.  Just for fun, I wrote to the company to ask "what about the hard-working women?"  Will keep you posted...

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

LOL funny Jay Dee. I wonder what a scent inspired by the high seas is like? Sounds fishy.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

haha - I see what you did there NancyJo!

  • JayDee659

It smells pretty good.  Clean and crisp like an ocean breeze wafting across the carrier deck...

My daughter doesn't care for perfume so this will be perfect for her.

My brief experience on her carrier inspired me to get her something else too.  They're loofas dipped in soap.  They get the scrub and soap and only have to carry one thing into the shower.  After trying to balance all my crap and keep it from falling when the ship swayed I realize how important it is to be efficient with your shower stuff.  I do believe that if I were to do it again I'd go for the shampoo & conditioner all in one bottle.  Showering on a carrier is not easy, I'm  just saying.

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

The carrier deck, in my memory smelled somewhat of jet fuel and exhaust. But to each his own. :^D

Actually, one of my daughters also prefers just soap to perfume or even strongly scented hand cream. I know what you mean. It's nice to find soaps that have an appealing scents.

  • SailorsLIMom

I got this nice answer from the folks at Duluth: "While we don’t have any particular “women’s” soaps, we do have a great soap (it smells SO good), called “smells like Naval Supremacy”. The “smells like Productivity” soap is also a great one, it’s a really good peppermint smell."  I ordered some just now!  Very good customer service!
