JayDee659, I think we need to let Duluth know what you did for them lol.....I went to their website after seeing your post and bought the soap and some other things as well!! Got some of my stocking stuffers done today ;)
Christyna64 -Your groups indicate that your son left for BC in Oct. Has he had his PIR yet? Has he arrived at GC? A school graduations are 24 wks or 6 months for EM & ET, for when they actually class up and start their lessons - at least that is what I figured from the date my son told me. MM's have 3 mo. of A school - I just had to ask my son when his graduation date was, once they class up it is posted. Although he told me that if they are sick and miss a test, they will be pushed back to the next class.
Just had a young man come in from our insurance company to do an air pressure tank inspection for us and we got to talking and he was a nuke mm on the Nimitz! What a small world :) Of course I had to pick his brain about his job now (which he loves) and he even gave me his card to pass on to B. Really a nice kid (I say because he's only 26). He said they love to hire nukes for the boiler plate inspections and pressure tank inspections because of their background. Good to know!
Thank you for the welcome, B'sNukeMoM⚓MM. My sailor is just beginning his Navy journey arriving today at RTC. I am sure I will have questions as he gets closer to his PIR. But for now I am really enjoying reading all the comments. Next stop...the Duluth Trading Company...I am curious about theses soaps I have been reading about.
Christyna64,
You'll get to a point where it will start to make sense. I'm still learning but have learned so much by reading on this site from fellow moms. Just know you're not alone and have an amazing support group here.
My son is in A school. He'll be home for the holiday. I figure it's best to just order from Amazon prime & have it shipped to him for easier traveling but want to have something to give him at home too. Any gift ideas out there?
Christyna, Google is a great help for Navy speak but you kind of learn as you go along. My Nuke is very secretive so our conversations go like this:
Me: "how was your day"
Nuke: "We did the thing to the thing but it wasn't SAT so the RO made us do the thing over but before that we had a GQ drill..."
Huh? I've learned to screen out what doesn't make sense and concentrate on what does. There is a lot that your Nuke is not supposed to tell you and mine absolutely will not break that rule.
As for the sleeping part, you will always have something to worry about. I'm not trying to sound negative, but it's a truth that most don't realize. They're not communicating during power school, they're on deployment and you don't know where they are, etc. It's a never ending cycle if you let it get the best of you. The best advice I have for you is to find your peace be it through exercise, meditation or prayer and practice going there. If you can do it during BC you should be able to pull it out anytime. Then of course, there's this fabulous group of ladies who all understand because we've bee there or are there right now.
DesertRose, that soap smells wonderful. They just opened a new Duluth Trading Co in our town and my husband and I stumbled across the soap by accident. My Nukette and my Nuke-in-Law are going to love it!
DesertRose - be sure to keep your phone on you at all times (fully charged and ringer turned up lol!) as you never know when a call might come in. But also remember, no news is good news!
JakobsNukeMom - have you got him a watch yet? That's always a good gift - the Casio G shock with a black band is nice. And of course gift certificates for restaurants around GC are always good too.
PattiP: urgent request. We are enroute to CVG for my Father-in-law’s funeral. My sailor will be a pall bearer and just notified us that he forgot to pack his neck scarf for his dress blues. Any ideas where we can get one in Cincy/northern KY area?
Thank you, Tom. We will definitely do that! Thanks for the prayers. Tough time as my husband’s brother died last Monday unexpectedly and his father passed on Thanksgiving. Both were veterans but each in a different branch. My son is in prototype at GC and his Staff Advisor has been wonderful and supportive.
Thanks all! Son got to Recruiter’s office in Florence and was able to borrow one. We got delayed but are finally leaving Charleston and should get there in time to pick him up from Recruiter’s and go to hotel to change for the funeral.
Tulip - your family is in our prayers - Multiple deaths in a short time can leave everyone with so many emotions. Glad the scarf worked out - thanks everyone for the tip, never know when it could occur to one of ours.
Welcome to all of the new moms. Glad to have you. If your recruit is still in BC, be sure to check in at Boot Camp for Moms, lots of information is available there and ladies able to assist you with questions pertinent to BC. Around week 5 or 6 your recruit will find out what Nuke rating he will have - MM, EM or ET. Once you know, be sure to share as it will help veteran moms make connections with you specific to those jobs.
Hi everyone! I don' seem to get on here very much lately. With the holidays coming up quick I have so much to do there just doesn't seem to be time. I wanted to ask if anyone had a son/daughter in class 1809T. My son recently classed up and started classes just yesterday.
Anyone else's Nuke getting pulled over on base? Mine has been pulled over twice in the last week. He says he thinks they may have some end of year quota, lol. First time no ticket, just a warning because he hadn't turned on his lights. He's driving a different car where you have to actually turn on the lights. Second time he was doing 32 in a 20. He's in Power School so been there since Jan and has never had it happen before.
Love that Johanna! Cruising around in your F350 :)
Peachy Navy Mom - I haven't heard of quotas for tickets but I suppose anything is possible lol! What type of car does your son drive? Maybe he stands out :-D
B'sNukeMoM - he was in two different cars and neither are memorable. Probably just his bad luck.
TxMom - in Georgia we get away with a little more. You can usually go 15 over, anything over 15 is Super Speeder and the fines are way higher. So they usually just wait until they can catch a Super Speeder.
My Nuke said he was going to drive 5 miles an hour on base from now on, lol.
Peachy Navy Mom - Luckily both of the reasons your nuke was stopped have free, easy solutions.
In the town where I grew up there are 2 main routes in/out of town. On one of them in particular, they would stop people if they went faster than 30 (speed limit 25). Now they've raised the speed limit to 30, but will stop you if you're going faster than that.
Tulip - so sorry you're going through such a tough time. Sending hugs and supportive thoughts your way.
Tulip: NavyMom hugs and prayers to you and your family.
JayDee: I appreciate hearing your nukette's commentary. As usual she is WAY more communicative than our sailor. During A School and Power School we were grateful for responses of one syllable words and grunts. It isn't getting any better.
submompwm, if he is starting A School then they will assign a room mate to him. There really is nothing to worry about as far as housing until Prototype. At that time they have to move off base, but until they know if they're staying in GC or heading to BS it doesn't make a lot of sense to rent for most.
submom⚓️pwm - looking at your profile, I am gathering that your son is an officer? I am not sure how that works with the school at NNPTC. I am assuming the officers have to find their own housing and that is your question. JayDee responded as I would have, but my son is enlisted, so the enlisted have BEQ housing on site for A school, then Power school. Please clarify. Thanks!
Morning all!! Congratulations to everyone having PIR today!
For those of you with new sailors headed to GC or at GC, I would like to pass along a strong recommendation from my sailor there. If your sailors are in INDOC for any amount of time, especially EM and ET's, it is highly recommended that they do their best to complete their UI's before they class up.
See "Nuke A School daily schedule" in pages or further additions in discussions above.
Buzzbeck I had to chuckle when I read your comment about communicating. I was all excited yesterday because I not only got a 'Yup' but it was a Yup with an exclamation point 'Yup!'
submompwm -I found an old link that someone had posted for apartments in North Charleston. They gave them a good rating: Cypress River Apartments - http://www.cypressriverapts.com/ - on Blue House Road in North Charleston. If your son is enlisted he won't have to worry about housing until Prototype, but if he is an officer then yes, he will need housing.
J's/S'smom, Buzzbeck, and ProudOfK, it is for you moms that I have my post above for all the newbies about what A school is like. Thankfully, my son likes to talk as much as I do. And he is willing to explain things to me. Unfortunately, your sailors are ahead of mine, so I can't help you out much, but hopefully I can inform other moms.
Our weather is too goofy right now in OKC, but I do have a little bit of red on my shirt. Too cold for my red t-shirt, too warm for the long sleeve I bought.
Welcome aboard Amanda, be sure to pop in and tell us about yourself and where your recruit / sailor is at in the Navy journey.
Well, we're starting to get some information about where prototype will be for current Power Schoolers. Sounds like the single sailors will be heading North and the married sailors will stay put but prototype starts three days after graduation! Changes our plans, but makes sense to keep the pipeline of new nukes full. Hope to learn more this weekend.
CSW that's what happened with my daughter's class. First they told them that ALL of their class would go to BS. After we found housing they told the married couples that they would stay in GC. So we were back to base one looking for housing in GC! The Navy is always an adventure.
I think base housing in GC is a bit easier to secure because you don't have to travel two days to get to site and you have the help of the base, but as you said it's an adventure, I'm sure they'll figure it out and I will tell him that finding housing has got to be a lot less stressful than studying/taking some of these exams! LOL. Gotta find the humor somewhere.
