ProudOfK - Thanks for clarifying my inability to explain this as well as I had thought. Although, I did not realize that there might be a class of say 1801 that was only ET's and MM's. That I did not know, which might explain why my son didn't know of any EM's in his class #, but I did know they all study separately. And yes they have letter suffixes, I only knew the T for sure, so didn't want to state the others.
They all study in different classes, and on different floors of the Rickover. All varying class #'s of MM's are on one floor, EM's on the next, and ET's on the next. The comment about the 62 was what he told me when he classed up mid-Sept. There were about 31 MM's and then he said the rest could be a mix of EM and ET, so, maybe what he meant was for each class # the remainder could vary on whether the rest of the 62 were EM's or ET's. If I have understood what he has explained to me, his ET class has about 30 in it and there are 3 females which is higher than average. I don't know if the larger class number has to do with the fact that his PIR was in Aug when they have a lot of Nukes come through or not.
ProudOfK, that's what my son has described as well...his class ends in -T and he has 29 in his class (he's ET).
On a happy note he got leave to come home for the holidays!! Home on the 16th for 2 weeks :)
On an unhappy note I'm stuck in Cincinnati - I come here for work once a month and I was supposed to go home this morning but Delta cancelled all flights through Atlanta due to the weather :( Rebooked to go home tomorrow morning, so it's not too bad but I'm missing Dickens on Centre Street today in Fernandina :(
Wow! I just discovered that with the new comment wall that is on here we can now post pictures from our phones! Used to be only from a desk top. This is so exciting! I posted a picture of us at Disneyland yesterday just to try it out.
Thanks for the tip B'Nuke! No wonder I could not post photos before. Here's a photo of Mr. Buzzbeck and our daughter walking down the aisle at August wedding, in the pasture converted to wedding venue.
In less than a week my son will be home for Christmas!! I'm so excited!! He just has to get through 2 tests and a PFT! That's a lot for one week!!
My son tentatively phased up and was able to go out to dinner in civilian clothes on Friday!! He went with a couple of friends and I have been trying to see if I can connect with their Mom's but so far I haven't had any luck. He is in class 1809T . Any Mom's have sailors in that class?
OK ladies, I need a little help with my memory. My non-navy son’s girlfriend is scheduled to graduate from BC this Friday. My son is planning to attend and wanted to take the rest of her family to Sarge’s on Thursday evening, but I can’t find the information to give him about where it is and how to make their reservations.
mattsmom - Here is the link for last week's meet n greet. You should be able to click on the RSVP link at the bottom and hopefully get to Sarge's web page. They use to be posted to the left under Events, but I think last week, someone was asking as well and it wasn't posted.
My sailor passed his comps today! We are headed to Goos Creek for graduation this Friday. We will actually arrive Thursday. I am looking at AIRBNB, but would like to know what areas would be ideal to stay. We are flying in/out of Charleston, but don't have to be super close to the airport. Just want a safe place. Recommendations?
My son called last night and shared that he had a correction on his most recent A school test, it had been graded incorrectly, and so it was allowed for correction and it raised his score. He was very happy with that.
Hi Everybody, I'm trying to catch up on posts after being away for 5 days. I was mostly under the weather but there was a wonderful thing to. My daughter and ex-nuke SIL had their 6th baby, Daniel Stuart. I'll invite you in to share my joy. The picture is newborn and already he isn't splotchy and looks different. Such a miracle!
Thanks, All. Congratulations to all the achievements! Lots of good news to read and doesn't that make you feel good? All the hard work and worry does pay off and we are all proud of your sailors and of you. Well done, Mamas!
Oh Buzzbeck, I wanted to comment that the wedding picture looks awesome! Your daughter is so beautiful. That looks like it was a gorgeous event. I remember all the work that went into getting that pasture in order. Looks like it was worth it.
All this talk of Sarge makes me ask if anyone knows if he is fully recovered the car accident he had a short while back. He has been on my mind.
My sailor has a nice leave coming up and will be with his family over Christmas before he leaves for deployment in the coming New Year. No definite dates but deployment could be pretty lengthy for those sailors so, as always, keep the deployed in your prayers; I know that you do. For my son, he will separate from his ship before the deployment is over, probably, so he will not have to suffer that long separation again. His first deployment was 9 1/2 months. For you less experienced moms, get your hugs and phone calls while you can. The military life has special challenges.
NancyJo - Daniel is adorable and I am jealous! I hope you're feeling better soon so you can visit with the little guy.
J's/S'smom - I hope you are feeling better soon too!. I got my flu shot a week ago and I'm crossing my fingers that I stay healthy.
We had a blast at Disneyland last Friday - weather was beautiful. It was crowded but when isn't it?!? We are going back this Saturday (we had a 2 day park hopper) and I want to make sure we see the firework show this time - they make it snow too :)
Chipmunk - woohoo - that's nice for your Sailor! Especially nice that they caught the error and corrected it!
Nancy jo...beautiful baby Daniel. I love that name!
Buzzbeck....beautiful daughter.
My son will soon be home before he heads to his next phase after finishing prototype. I know this will be his last Christmas for awhile so I'm going to enjoy every minute. I really appreciate all you mom's who have had your sons or daughters away for so long.
Please be sure to read the **NEW MEMBER** info up above and the pages to the right (11) under the member profiles. You'll find lots of good info there. The "Discussion Forum" also has some good info (hit "view all"). And of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have :)
Chipmunk - It's nice to know errors can be corrected, especially when it works in favor of the student! That reminds me of a story my dad tells about when he took calculus in college. He was struggling to pass, and when he got the final exam he knew he was sunk. He had no idea at all how to solve the equation. In a last ditch attempt to put *something* on the paper, he wrote "I don't think this problem can be solved". Turned out the equation had been written incorrectly and he was right! He was the only one who got full marks on the test, and passed the class. Whew!
PacNWmom - a very similar thing just happened to my sailor son that's now in college. He had a Physics midterm and he said he couldn't figure out the question/answer for the life of him - he said it just didn't make since so he went up and asked the instructor about it during the exam and the instructor realized it also was written incorrectly. I think he said the professor ended up removing it from the exam so it didn't negatively impact anyone! Gut instincts can be right. I'll sure bet your dad was happy too :)
PacNWmom & B'sNukeMoM⚓️MM - My father was a university mathematics professor. I watched him grade tests for years. I realize now that some of my perfectionism comes from him, but I know that he would have given credit to any student, who realized that a problem had been written incorrectly, or impossible to solve. And he would go to bat for his students when they graded tests in mass, I think he even went back over them himself.
Evidently, my son said they are able to review their tests, and can questions a mistake. In his case, the type of grading error warranted a corrected score.
B's - Glad you had an enjoyable time at Disneyland - have fun Saturday.
NancyJo - your grandbaby is adorable - I love the background.
I had a great niece born this week, she and her two foster cousins that are 1 and 2 mo. older than her are all healthy and well.
Rebecca J - Congratulations to your son as well!!! Enjoy your time with him.
To all of those preparing for PIR tomorrow, safe travels, stay flexible with your sailor's schedule after graduation. For some of us, we have had delays afterwards, but stay positive. Keep us posted and let us know how it went.
Also tuck in an extra Lint roller to put in their backpack with their phones. Consider it a stocking stuffer!! - I found some two packs (lg & sm) for $1.00 at our Dollar Tree Store. For their dress whites a Tide Pen or Tide to Go Pen would be another little stocking stuffer. Remind them not to have any oversized liquids in their carry on. (In the haste of packing they might forget!)
My son is getting his KEEL under the tree as well. It had never arrived and it took a few phone calls and some extra effort on the part of the NEX supervisor. It had been several weeks of others having already received theirs, but finally in 2 days time, I now have my son's in hand! Yeah!!
Chipmunk and TahoeZephyr our son graduated 11/3 also and I don't think he ordered the Keel but he DID order the DVD to be sent to us and we have not yet received it (his photos came though). Is it time to make some phone calls?
Sorry, ladies - I have been off my computer for awhile. My son's PIR was 8/25/17! We did receive his graduation DVD in the 4 - 6 week time frame, as I recall. And I believe that was delivered by Fed EX. The Keel, can take 8 - 10 weeks from what I was told, and is outsourced to a contractor. It is also called the "Cruisebook", and basically has pictures from BC, that I sort of assume are all the same, and not actually from each TG, and then pictures of their shipmates in their division. If your recruit orders the pkg A on pictures, I believe it was included in that. I would post a comment on your PIR group first to see if anyone else has received their DVD's and then later their Keels. I did that before I even made phone calls. Also, the others in my PIR had received their Keel by Postal service, but mine came UPS.
Chipmunk and 3B's mom - thanks for the info on timeframes. I just received the DVD yesterday; I decided to order it after PIR when our son explained that he designed his division flag :) sounds like it may be a few more weeks for the Keel to show up
I remember the Keel coming a very long time after PIR. Our son had ordered the pictures and I didn't know exactly what he'd ordered so this and that dribbled in and finally the DVD. Then long after I even thought there was anything still coming The Keel showed up. It is a really nice book to have as it gives a good overview of the things they did in BC plus we have good pictures with names of a lot of the people our sailor is in nuke school with.
TahoeZephyr - Did you happen to buy a picture of your son's division flag? They may still be able to make a copy of it for you in the NEX. I would not call today as it is very busy, but I was able to purchase one after our PIR and my son was very grateful that I had.
Due to the limited Keel's that are printed for each group, I am not even sure that my son's is a complete one, or how they are doing them. His only shows their brother division and then his pictures and his division flag is not in it. When I spoke to the supervisor yesterday to thank her, she said it was the only one left from the PIR. It makes me wish I had gone ahead and just ordered another Keel when I purchased additional items after PIR.
