NoahsMom, my son is doing the same thing JayDees daughter did - he had PIR in Oct, he flew home for the Christmas break 12/16 and he's driving his car back. I think he missed his car - he's been driving everywhere since he got home Saturday!

I love seeing everyone's posts about having their sailors home for the holidays! And keeping all those who aren't able to go home in my thoughts.

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

I'm caught up and so happy for all the great reunions I'm seeing! Thanks so much, Everybody, for sharing all your great news and pics. They warm this ol' navy mom's heart. <3

CoTwin, you had me all excited there for a minute when I saw that female face only to be crushed when you said "just a friend." Oh well. It's only a matter of time before one of those handsome guys brings home the new DIL.

PattiP, I can hardly believe you are almost done. It has been quite the journey for you. But it's not over yet! I know your sailor is all grown up but I look at that face and still see that little boy. So adorable!

B'sNuke, I don't know who your cartoon supplier is but you put up some corkers. LOL! Don't ever stop!! Meanwhile, fires staying away from you? Do you have much smoke or ash? My sailor in San Diego has told me not to worry but of course he would say that. Stay safe, my friend!

The babies are great. 3 yo James was so excited to FINALLY have a brother only to find out those sword fights he was waiting for will have to wait longer. Babies can't sword fight. 2 yo Mary can't reach the baby when he's sleeping in the bassinette so she would just fling her dolls in there to keep him company. He's been bopped a couple times but no lasting damage. She has learned not to do that. The others just smooch on him at every opportunity so he is building up some really great antibodies.

Only a week to Christmas and Hanukkah is almost over. Where is time flying to? Safe travels to all our sailors as they make their way over the holidays. Get lots of hugs, Mamas!

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

BlancheMarie, that's awesome! Are those real alligators in there? Not being a bio major I don't know crocs from gators so please excuse my ignorance. If those things were real I would not be so close. Yikes! At any rate what a great photo and great time together.

  • Chipmunk

I just saw a note from my husband saying that Atlanta airport had a major power outage and stranded travelers. So thankful my sailor got through there late on Saturday before the chaos. Hopefully all will be clear for the return trip.  I hope all others have arrived safely without any mishaps.

On another somber note, there was a bad train derailment in WA, south of Tacoma, just looking at the news and hear that some of our military personnel, on their way home from work, were helping with the cars below. Prayers for all involved.

On a happy note, BlancheMarie, sounds like you had a wonderful time. Our family took that trek quite a few years back, my sailor probably doesn't remember it very well. We plan for just some quiet family visits and travel, and still trying to figure out when to see Star Wars - we have to juggle around youngest brother's birthday party, school activities and other activities.

NancyJo - such fun stories!! Glad to hear the grandbabies are doing well. Hopefully, you get to visit them.

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

BlancheMarie, double yikes! I don't know if that is better or not. Heights are not my thing. I see where your sailor got his courage.

Ive yet to write on this blog, but my boy K got home today.  He was supposed to get home yesterday but got caught in the Atlanta power outage. Thankfully his buddies kept him at their apt. It’s good to have him home. Very grateful for this blog and all the ladies who give such great advice and good info. Merry Christmas to everyone and prayers for all that are deployed.

  • E's ⚓proud⚓ mom

My son has been in Great Lakes since PIR on 12/8. They told him he is missing something in his medical file. He THINKS it is signatures after hearing more over the week. He said the dr. has not been there and is supposedly now taking holiday leave and leaving all these kids there waiting for their medical files to be cleared for orders to be assigned. They had already had his flight to GC on PIR day then they told him something was missing. Is this normal? Now he us stuck there waiting for something he has no details on. His first holiday away from home and he's in limbo. Very frustrating. He doesn't want us to send him anything for Christmas because he still has to transport all of his new Navy gear when orders finally come. So frustrating. Is this normal?

  • Chipmunk

E's ⚓proud⚓ mom - I realize this is extremely frustrating not only for you, but also for your son. Are there others waiting to get to GC as well? My son's PIR was 8/25 - we literally waited until almost 5 pm for him to have all of the paperwork done to release him for his flight on Sat, others had to wait as well, but ours was the last to be done. I just asked him and it was due to a doctor needing to sign off on his medical, and there was only one doctor. Thankfully, he did not have to stay in GL, but as I have said before, it appears the issues with these delays have not been rectified. As to normal, this extent of a delay is not normal or typical, but delays on PIR have occurred, so when I have the opportunity, I like to mention it, so that all the parents who think their sailors will fly out the next day are not caught off guard like I was with a delay on PIR. And I don't think there is a normal in the military, other than what is necessary or warranted at the time. Your son is being reasonable, when he says he doesn't want anything extra for Christmas. They are packed to the hilt and any extra is just that much more for them to carry or keep track of when flying to GC.

  • E's ⚓proud⚓ mom

Yes, there are others waiting as well, from the 12/8 PIR, and others as well. He spent all last week doing random duties. He finally got a little sleep Sunday morning. He wouldn't be so frustrated if he was at least at his destination and not in limbo, now to hear chatter today that the dr that is needed to remedy these files may be taking leave for the holidays with these kids waiting there. It's crazy.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hang in there E's proud mom - your son will learn this is the way the Navy works - Hurry up & wait!  I'm sure it's frustrating to him and to you and even more so with the Dr going on vacation but they'll get it straightened out!  It is a bummer if he's stuck there over Christmas - at least in GC he would have his room and be able to hang with his buddies.

BlancheMarie - wow - that looks awesome!  So glad you had the whole family together for such a fun time :)

proudNukemom - quite the handsome sailor you have there.  Glad the delays in Atlanta weren't too long!

NancyJo - the fires aren't near me so we aren't experiencing any of the smoke or ash.  They are bad though.  The San Diego fire I believe is 100% contained now, it's the Thomas fire that is only at about 30% or so containment and so far it's the 3 largest wildfire in CA.  It's pretty bad.

I can just picture the little ones wanting to play with their new brother - so cute that Mary wants to share her dolls :)

I got a text from B and he arrived safely in MI.

  • Tx Mom of Far Away Nuke

E's Proud Mom - going to BC, my son's schedule was fast-tracked due to a government shutdown looming because of the Budget.  I was NOT happy about that.  Then when my nuke finished his final schooling, his graduation was delayed because of medical reasons.  His next duty station would be tropical and there were shots he had to get.  The Navy dots all their I's and crosses all their T's...  Everything must be completed before proceeding.  Delays are frustrating.  I didn't have travel insurance and lost the money on that one-way flight.  But our nukes are worth the money for the 2nd flight so I could have the privilege of driving back home with him.  There are travel restrictions when your Nuke is driving solo.

    Hang in there!

  • CO-TwinSalorsMom

What a wonderful picture of all your young men. You've got a houseful.

Either of mine have tattoos yet. Hoping it never happens.

  • CO-TwinSalorsMom

    Having fun with my boys.

Sam brought protein drink mix in his suitcase and it exploded inside. Everything was white!! Went POOF when he opened it. Had to wash everything. All new clothes as all his are geared to Hawaii and 80*.  A lot colder in Colorado.

  • MoMom

Mine did come home this past weekend with a tattoo. I’m pretty sure it would have happened regardless of his career choice, though. It doesn’t bother me, but it is strange to see.

  • CO-TwinSalorsMom

I am having fun with my guys.

Sam had to buy a bunch of clothes as all of his are geared to 80* and it is cold here.

  • Chipmunk

SantaBabs81 - I am so sorry for your situation and lack of expectation being fulfilled. We had two weddings this summer, one before my son's leave date for BC, the other was the weekend before his PIR. So, he was there for one sister and not for the other and she was the one most disappointed, but we also knew it ahead of time. It is a lot harder when you have plans for something and then it doesn't work out.

Now, I realize that I had nothing to complain about waiting all day after PIR for my son to finally get his orders cleared completely so he could fly out. I do feel that it is important for our new moms to realize that just because the PIR info on Boot Camp for Moms says they will fly out the next day - there is always the exception to the rule. I flex better when I know I am going to have to probably.

I trust the wedding will still be very lovely!! Is your son able to have his computer? Or maybe FaceTime? - We put our son on the big screen TV at both Thanksgiving gatherings for our family so that at least we could see him and he could see us, my daughter also walked around with her laptop. Just a thought.

  • Johanna

My Nuke and his beautiful, tiny family are home from HI and our youngest Sailor flys in Frday night. It’s been a year since we have seen our Grandbaby, but he still has light, red hair and big blue eyes like my Son. They say they don’t ever want to wait this long and would we plaese come to HI for a month in the spring...DONE....:))))))) Merry Christmas!

  • AngelsBreath

    Morning Nuke family

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!  6 days until Christmas!

Johanna - enjoy your time with both your Sailors home!  And give that grandbaby extra hugs & kisses.  Oh darn, a month in Hawaii - can you pack me in your suitcase lol?!?

I'm just loving all the pictures!  Keep sharing.

SantaBabs81 - I'm sorry your son won't be able to attend the wedding, but I like the idea of having him tape his best mans speech.  And hopefully he won't have duty and you can skype with him too.

MoMom - mine has lots of tattoo's - he went in with a few and got more as time went on.  I even got one on my wrist after he went in lol.

J's/S'smom - yes, I don't mind sharing with her family.  Of course, as you said it's easier since we just saw them in November!  She makes him happy which makes me happy!

PattiP - hmmm so he's thinking about going to Japan?  Make sure he looks into Excelsior College and Old Dominion.  They do online and they work well with the Nukes.....

    Morning AngelsBreath!

My Nuke just landed! His dad just picked him up and they gave me a call to let me know he's home for the holidays! :)

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Woohoo CSW!  Enjoy!  What a wonderful Christmas gift :)

  • Chipmunk

Moms with Nukes still in THU at GL, just trying to find out in case it comes up on BootCamp Moms - are your sailors able to have both their cell phones and their laptops as well?

    Thanks -

    SantaBabs81 - I agree that a pre-recorded message would be great!

  • E's ⚓proud⚓ mom

My son has his phone and laptop. He said other boys have purchased gaming systems as well. They have a game room there, apparently. I don't know that my son is using his laptop but does text at certain times of the day. They are only allowed to use these while off base or in THU.

  • CaseyRN

My Nuke is actually just in his 2nd week of Basic. He is expected to graduate in February. Luckily, I live close to the Goose Creek school, so he will be coming "home" when he is done. Thank you for the add!

  • Chipmunk

CaseyRN - welcome to the group, as the time draws closer to PIR, be sure to check back in and read through some of the discussions and pages to the right.

E's Mom and SantaBabs81 - thanks for the update on what is allowed at THU.

Johanna - what joy to see your grandbaby!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all- Happy Wednesday!

CaseyRN - that's awesome that you are close to GC!  Please be sure to join the boot camp group and then your PIR group - you'll find lots of good info there:

    5 days until Christmas!

  • Chipmunk

So, just a little humor - On N4M we are not allowed to use any last names - which makes it difficult for my son to figure out people at GC, since I only know 1st names & they only last. Well, evidently, I haven't been practicing my son's proper name designation with his superiors - SN (last name), because I utilized his first name in a text msg to update on our Christmas plans! Needless to say my son corrected my misaddress!! I suppose since I am rarely address as Mrs. so/so - I have become too slack in the formalities - I will have to so better.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Good Morning and Happy Thursday!

Chipmunk - it does make it difficult to figure out who's who when we use first names and they use last names!

I went to the doctor yesterday - been having some foot pain and they think it's plantar fasciitis.  It's always something!

Is everyone ready for Christmas?  Only 4 more days!

Hi, and thanks for the welcome!
This is a brand-new thing for us (he is on day 2) so I’m going to lurk around here and read/learn. The advice for what not to send during these next 7-9 weeks and other links to official pages have been tremendously helpful. I can already tell this is an invaluable resource!
    Best, KC

thekellyest - make sure you join the boot camp group.  You'll find lots of good info there and then once you get your letter with your PIR date (usually takes about 10 days) then you can join that group too!

Christmas is almost here!! Is everyone ready? (I'm not...almost, but not quite!!) Son has been gone for a couple days visiting friends, I'm ready for him to come back home!

In the meantime, DIL (my sailor's older brother's wife) sent me this and made my day :)

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

bigsky21 - adorable picture!  Thanks for sharing :)  If that doesn't put you in the Christmas spirit I don't know what will!

    J’s/S’smom, that’s great news!

NancyJo and B’sNukeMom, thanks! He’s such a little cutie pie :) My first grand baby, and he looks just like his daddy :)

  • ProudOfK

I've been enjoying all the post.

B’sNukeMom - when I saw your post today on my phone at work about plantar fasciitis I knew I needed to comment as soon as I got home.  A few years ago my feet were hurting so bad that when I would first get up in the morning I could barely walk and would cringe with every step until they limbered up.  I happened to go to my favorite shoe store to buy shoes before I had a chance to see the doctor.  When I mentioned how my feet had been feeling the sale's lady said - plantar fasciitis and steered me away from the brand of shoes I was looking for and said I needed Dansko's.  I'd never worn Dansko's but I took her advice.  Now I have Dansko dress shoes, walking shoes, winter boots, etc. and I have not had a problem with my feet for a few years - I have even gained a fair bit of weight but my feet are fine.  So if you don't wear Dansko's - try them and see if it takes care of it. If it's anything like I had it's very painful.  I also use Super Feet inserts in my tennis shoes that aren't Dansko's.

Have a wonderful Christmas everyone.  I'm excited because today was my last day to work until Jan 2nd and my sailor is here until Jan 1st.  Yahoooo!

  • JayDee659

ProudofK I wear Danskos also and they are wonderful and worth every penny.

  • Chipmunk

BigSky21 - what a cutie pie!! I found out we aren't going to see my brand new great niece at Christmas - I am sad!! So this picture brings a happy smile to my face!

B's Mom - loved the wildlife pictures.

J's/S's Mom - thanks for the insight into your multi military life and also I am glad that you can empathize with those missing their recruits or sailors. I am glad to have mine home, and it will be so hard when he leaves. My dishwasher and house cleaner has returned!!

ProudOfK - I will have to make a note of those shoes. I have never heard of them before, nor the insoles. Thanks for sharing!

Welcome to all the new moms -  I know most of you are missing your recruits this Christmas my thoughts are very much with you.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

  • Chipmunk

Oh and I have my red Santa outfit ready to wear tomorrow when we go see Star Wars with my sailor!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Since we’re not all together this year I’m sharing our 2016 Christmas picture (and besides, I really like it!).

    Merry Christmas!

  • JayDee659

B'sNukeMom that is a beautiful picture!

It looks like it's just me and hubby again this year. Our oldest is going to meet her new boyfriends family and my sailor has duty. Thank goodness she's "home" do we can talk. In January we'll all be convening on her house for a family Christmas. Hubby and I are making the 12 hour drive through the mountains with all 3 dogs. Oh boy!

The good news is that due to the timing we can do our shopping on the 26th and hit all the sales!

Yesterday was my last day at work until January 8. Hoping for some cold weather do we can ski until we leave for sailors home.

  • E's ⚓proud⚓ mom

Every year at Christmas I take a photo of my three boys. This will be the first holiday that I won't have them all here, even for the day. So here's one I took the Saturday before my boy left for boot camp.
