J's/S'smom - I have heard that the nuke submariner's can have cranking but I guess that's because there's way (way) fewer of them to do the jobs.  They don't have that situation with 5000+ sailors on a carrier!

    J's/S'smom

What are nubs?  is that nukes on subs?

  • soccermom19

B'sNukeMoM⚓️MM - wouldn't that be great if we could collect $200 and go straight to Friday every week!!!  :-)

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

J's/S'smom - just that he was told by the head of the department that she was recommending him for the program.  It still has to go to the provost for final approval.  He got on me yesterday about telling people about it lol and he said it's not 100% yet (I know, but it's looking promising!).  I told him it's ok that I was just telling all my Navy moms lol!  He doesn't want to get his hopes up too high in case it doesn't pan out.  I feel pretty good about it though.  And if it doesn't work out then there's always the next school year, right?!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

TahoeZephyr - I realized I didn't respond to your post. I'm sorry to hear that your son is being re-rated but I hope that you and he both understand there is no shame in this.  The nuke program isn't for everyone and like some of the others stated those that have been re-rated end up being very happy with their new rating.  I "bumped" the discussion by WearsLargeHats above - there's some good info there.  Also there is a de-nuked group on FB that you might want to join.

I do hope that you will stick around here - you are one of us!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

AZNukeGma - is it (was it) your sailor's birthday?

  • AZNuKeGma

    B’NukesMoM yes it was yesterday

  • Chipmunk

Just popping in to say Hi! Got to scoot but looks like a lot of reading to catch up on later! Enjoy your Wednesday!

  • WearsLargeHats

Somehow my "follow" got turned off last month. I was wondering why things were so quiet. I am probably hundreds of messages behind!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

AZNukeGma - Happy Belated birthday to your sailor!  I hope you were able to talk to him ;-D

WearsLargeHats - oh my if you are a month behind you have a lot of catching up to do lol!

  • kai cat

Please send thoughts and prayers out for my son who is doing his final run tomorrow! I just got a letter in the mail from him today that said he felt like he was 75% going to fail (what a great attitude right! lol).  Thank-you ladies!!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

kai cat - praying he has wings on his feet!  He's got this!

  • soccermom19

kai cat - I am sending out prayers for your son to do well and to think positive

  • AZNuKeGma

Tulip Thank you for the info.good info to know:)

  • Chipmunk

WearsLargeHats - glad to see you back with us!!

AZNukeGma - Happy Belated birthday to your sailor!

Thanks all for the great information. NancyJo - I think you changed your picture but I like your Navy Nuke Mom anchor!

J's/S'Mom - now it is several comments back but you said your son got ? (3NAM's) ? - would you explain please. I am assuming this is something with their qualifications in Prototype.

Kai Cat - praying for your son! Mine texted tonight and said he had a test, not sure if it is his PFA or what, but prayers for all.

B'sNukeMom - Thanks for all the admin work you do!!

    Night all!

  • TahoeZephyr

Chipmunk, Pat L, Tx Mom, Js/Ss mom, soccer mom9, NancyJo, proud nuke mom, B's Nuke Mom, Patti P...Thank you so much for your kind comments and support!  I initially hesitated to share my son's news on this site, but decided I would likely get some needed support and hopefully useful information.  I had a quick text with him today and he is moving to DTP tomorrow (which I understand to basically mean his living quarters are being relocated to another part of the base..."down the street" he said). No news yet on re-rate options, but he has been initially told he will likely remain in GC for 3 or 4 months while they process his paperwork and wait for an opening in another A School.  During this time is sounds like he will be assigned a myriad of duties, including standing watch, working in the mess hall, etc.

We are very proud of him for getting into the program in the first place, so that is definitely something for him to feel good about.  But he really does not have a clear idea of "what he wants to be when he grows up" (will turn 20 next week), so this re-rate is probably a blessing in disguise.  I just hope he is presented with some good options that will challenge him to grow and bring him job satisfaction.

I will definitely stay active on this site and lend updated info on the DTP process as I find out more details (indeed, it's sometimes hard to get those!).  Thank you again for your responses and encouragement :)

  • Chipmunk

TahoeZephyr - big Navy Hugs!! And continued prayers for your son to have some insight and direction with his future. He might actually need a lot more encouragement now while in DTP with the "menial" duties, than with studying.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi all - Happy Almost Friday!

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

TahoeZephyr, thanks for responding! I will pray that your son finds just the right spot for him. I see great things in his future.

kai cat, prayers for your son as well. While my son was in DEP he and another guy worked together to get in shape for bootcamp. My son was an athlete so that wasn't too hard for him but the guy he worked out with was a gamer who didn't see much sunlight, as a lot of nukes start out. My son encouraged him and gave him pointers. They both managed to pass whatever PT they needed.

AZBuKeGma, happy birthday to your sailor, (belatedly)!

PattiP mentioned care packages. Last night my daughter was talking to an army vet who said vacuum packed baked goods were welcome when he was deployed. I don't remember anyone saying that before. We have a vacuum thingy so my daughter will try it. I know my son loves baked good and also has said he loved the steak sauce and BBQ sauce. Whatever flavor your sailor likes, it's appreciated.

  • JayDee659

PattiP, those are all great ideas, thank you for sharing them!

Another idea is to line the inside of the box with a garbage bag.  Those boxes get sea spray, rained on and sometimes accidentally go in the ocean.  Keep the precious goodies safe!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

Ha! Love the nuke graphics. <3<3<3

  • AngelsBreath

How is everyone doing today. It has been a while since I have been in here. Nice to be back. Welcome to all the new comers. Hope everyone's son/daughter is doing ok. My son told me a couple of weeks ago they were doing 10 hour study days. I just keeping praying for our children to get through school and keep pushing.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi AngelsBreath - I for one am enjoying a beautiful sunny day here in SoCal.  Got a nice view out my window where I can see the planes flying over from March Air Reserve ~ they've been busy lately.  Lots of the big cargo planes and occasionally a jet or 2.  It's exciting to hear them roar over head!

Stay positive and keep encouraging your son ~ he's got this!

  • Chipmunk

Hi Angels Breath - Hope both of your sons are doing well!!!

J's/S's Mom - thanks for defining NAM ! I wasn't sure if it was something your son had gotten while in Prototype from your comment earlier. But this makes sense! I think my son said one of his division mates at bc actually received one for doing the Heimlach manuever on someone in distress. My son wasn't bothered by the award, but he did comment that the SR had been a trained EMT or such prior to bc!!

  • Chipmunk

Thanks also for the shipping tips and suggestions!

  • Pooh'sMom

BOOTS IN THE HOUSE!  Happy Mom for the next few days!

Get lots of hugs Poohs Mom!

  • Chipmunk

Pooh's Mom - enjoy precious time with your sailor!!

  • Tulip

I see it has been a busy day! Need to catch up, but wanted to share my news...my sailor passed his boards today and qualified at GC. Still awaiting orders but he can at least breathe a sigh of relief. Thanks for all your prayers and well wishes!

WearsLargeHats: I also stopped getting email notifications for about 2 weeks and had to turn it back on from the website. Not sure how it was turned off.

  • Tulip

    Thanks J’s/S’smom!

  • Tulip

Enjoy boots in the house, Pooh’sMom!

  • Chipmunk

Tulip - Big congratulations to your sailor.

  • proudNukemom

Tulip-  Such a big accomplishment! Congratulations to your Sailor!

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

Congrats, Tulip! Waiting is part of the deal, unfortunately. Well done!

Pooh'sMom, enjoy those boots in the house and make sure you get plenty of hugs for the rest of us. Lucky Mama!

  • JayDee659

Good morning ladies, I'm doing my best to watch the Pearl Harbor coming in to San Diego.  No Nukes on board, but my friends daughter is on that ship.  I think I'm as excited as she is :)Unfortunately the web cam is blocked by my work so I'm trying to watch on my phone.  I'm thinking "is that little thing the ship?".

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Friday!

BZ to your son Tulip!  Fingers crossed for orders he's happy with ;-D

I'm not sure what causes notifications to be turned off but it can be frustrating!  I'm on here everyday so I don't usually worry about it.  Best bet is if you haven't heard anything in a few days check in cuz you know we're chatting lol!

Some more good news - youngest son was accepted to the graduate program!!!! He got the acceptance email yesterday!  This will be a Masters of Science in Sports Psychology and a CC (certified counselor).  It's perfect for him ;-D  And it's an accelerated program so he starts in the Fall and will be done in a year.  I'm so excited for him.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

I've got my red on - do you?

  • JayDee659

B'sNukeMom, that's wonderful news!  I'm know you all are excited!

  • soccermom19

    B'sNukeMoM⚓️MM  BRAVO ZULU!!!

That is wonderful news and done in 1 year.  Amazing.  Congratulations to your son!!!

And I got my RED on!!!!

  • bigsky21

Wow, great news for your youngest son B'sNukeMoM!! BZ!!

I haven't heard a peep out of my son all week - sent a text a couple days ago that his Keel arrived (finally!!) and his W-2 from his last job still has NOT arrived, but no answer...I know they're busy, but just an "ok" would be nice so I know he saw the message. Sigh, some things never change lol. Hopefully I'll catch up with him this weekend.

Got my RED on!! :) and my anchor shoes lol :)

  • bigsky21

Tulip, just saw your news, congrats to your son as well!!!

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

B'sNuke, so happy about your son's news! Good for him.

Yup, got my red on too!!

bigsky21, isn't having a poor communicator a bummer? <sigh> I got a txt from my sailor at 1:00 am which of course didn't wake me, saying he was about to get back on the ship but will make land again in a few weeks. Gah! He couldn't call? THAT I would have heard. oh well.

  • Tx Mom of Far Away Nuke

NancyJo - I've missed a few late night calls/texts myself.  And beat myself up in the morning about it!  I'm excitedly waiting for mine to contact me once he is stateside again!  Even though he'll still be a 20 hour drive away from me...  At least he's on the same continent.

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

J's/S's, bless your heart having 3 military children. I'm so glad that you heard from 2 of them! No, they don't always realize what we need. It's like I never really appreciated what my mother went through til I was 1 myself. But that's partly why this site is so great.

Hi All!! Happy Red Day! Congrates to your son B'sNukeMom!

So sorry to hear you missed a call, Nancy Jo. Hopefully, by the time mine is going out to sea, I will keep my phone plugged in beside the bed.

I have to admit, I am having to learn patience as well. My son is more of a communicator, but lately, it has been sparse, even when I know he can contact me, so patience was the name of the game last night - then he texts "can I call you in a few minutes." of course I said Yes! - But that interruption in our movie watching and the late time frame sort of ruffled my husband's feathers!! LOL! I just politely scolded him and he understood the call was more important, but delaying the start of a movie when bedtime was approaching wasn't part of his initial plans.

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

Chipmunk, I guess living as a single makes it easier for me when it comes to phone calls and the like. Actually my phone is plugged in beside my bed but I wear a CPAP and I sleep like a rock. I don't hear sirens or anything. My son just needs to call, not text. But he doesn't like to talk on the phone and I think once he is done talking to the wife, which I definitely support keeping his priority, he's not in the mood for more talk. He's the strong silent type.

  • Chipmunk

NancyJo - it is so interesting the different personalities. And I prefer a phone call as well. And my son prefers talking to a text but we have at least learned to text first if it is a good time for a call. My husband has his phone plugged in by the bed at night but mine is usually plugged in elsewhere, but not if I think I will be expecting a call!
