Wow JayDee! The pictures are beautiful but oh it makes me feel so cold just looking at them!! Brrrrrrr.....and the pups look like they are having a blast :)
What pretty snow! Spring snows are so pretty but tend to be heavier, wet snow. Fingers crossed none of you lose power. I love the dogs. How happy they look! Our little chihuahua mix does not like the cold or snow. She'll go outside to take care of business but that's it. And she hates wearing garments that might protect her. She just wilts in embarrassment when you put a little sweater or something on her.
JayDee, I do have to say that I'm glad that the snow is not hitting in my neck of the woods, which is northern WI. But, I am sure we will see our more especially since we can get snow through May and sometimes June depending whether the wind is coming off the big lake.
It is beautiful, but I have had enough of shoveling snow for the season. Stay warm
Please be sure to read the ***NEW MEMBERS*** info at the top of the page and also click on the link about NNPTC. You'll find lots of interesting info there. And of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have!
NancyJo, I have to say that I'm not much for dog sweaters either so I don't blame your dog. We had a boxer who was losing her fur and she wore a sweater to cover her nudity. Other than that our dogs have had to rely on their fur!
B'sNuke, wilting is the only word. Head down, ears back, tail between her legs, practically dragging herself toward the door. Poor girl. She looks up at us and it's like I can hear her say "WHY?!?!" Sad and hilarious at the same time.
I don't know how Nebraska missed the snow. We always get hit if it's out there. Lucky for a change. My DIL only has about 2 months before setting up house in SC and she's already missing the weather is SoCal. I try to tell her SC is still a lot warmer than NE but went you are coming from San Diego I guess she's worried.
PattiP, those toll people are tenacious! I hope he gets that ironed out. I love dolphins. I wonder how often our nukes get out there to see those kinds of things. I know my sailor doesn't like to go on deck.
Colorado got just a hint on snow on Sunday. The biggest flakes I have ever seen though I think. Today like summer. Most of the state is having a pretty worrisome drought.
There is a brewery making a Red draft in honor of the snowboarder from here who won Gold at the olympics. Red (is it?) Gerard?
I'm so sad for you! Do you mean--bec our daughter is still in Power School--that there is no communication when they're deployed on a sub? (seems logical but still...) And when they're on a carrier--can they contact families then, conditions permitting? Hard to imagine the loneliness of Basic continuing for months and months...sending you strength vibes!
SailorsLImom I can tell you that there is the possibility of communication on a carrier. They are sometimes restricted due to where they are or what their mission is but not for as long as a sub. They can call from the carrier and they will have a ships email. Of course they have mail drop so you can send and receive packages. My SIL is on a sub but he's not been out yet so I'm still learning about them.
The snow fell and the Navy Moms came out to chatter today!!
J's/S'Mom and CO-Twin - mine isn't going sub, but I know there were still be those times of long days without communication and it will be hard once again. So, BNH, to you.
Sorry to hear that the toll charges are still adding up even though they have been paid. I would be on the phone trying to figure out who to talk to and get some answers, even it was just inquiring as to how these charges are occurring. Without being an authorized user on your son's account it is probably difficult to actually deal with their specific account. But you might be able to call and ask general questions, feel out how the system operates and see if you can find any loose ends. Just a thought. I have learned how to do a lot of inquiry on "general" questions, when I couldn't actually get the specific answers.
JayDee - enjoyed the pictures. My son was drooling over them. He would rather be there than enjoying our 70' weather for Spring Break!!!
Welcome to all of the new members who recently joined. If you are reading through the chatter, it can seem a little overwhelming, because there are a lot of names and no connections maybe to where you are at. But believe me, these are the veteran moms who have been through the thick and thin, of Navy Mom life and you will start to know them and appreciate their wisdom.
It can seem a little intimidating at times to jump in with a question and sometimes it might get overlooked, so never hesitate to ask again. Just know you are a part of a very supportive group of people on here, mostly moms but we have Dads, grandparents, spouses, and other loved ones.
We will do our best to make you feel at home, so be sure to chime in and share a little about yourself we can get to know you as well.
Prayers for all of our sailors taking tests, as it seems someone is having some test every day of the week. And prayers for our sailors on deployment. Safe travels for those heading to graduation.
Quick update from DTP - our son got orders today to head to GL for A School next Wednesday :) He will re-rate as a Gunners Mate! Time to get busy again after a 2 month hiatus :)
My son is deployed on a sub. Awaiting an email but keeping my expectations low. We were given an FPO address but told mail might never reach them - have you all had experience with this? Not sure if I should bother to send package. Also any suggestions for meeting local Navy or military Moms? Tried USO but too far and the Mass Navy Moms doesn't seem very active - no response to inquiries.
Beglish - Our boys are now men. :) Communication is now limited. I would recommend keeping your cell phone at your side at all times. My son was stationed far far away. The few calls I received always came when I was sleeping. And from what I've learned, playing video games with his new buddies is a priority. Calling his mother isn't. Sigh.
Thank you JayDee659 and others for the information about sub life, and communicating in general with our darlings. I think our daughter is less keen on the sub career than when she finished Basic a year ago, but it's still in the air. There was some talk of girls on subs earlier, and I see some of the pros and cons. It's her decision, of course. BTW Tx Mom, the video games are one of our daughter's main occupations, but she's keeping it to weekends bec she knows it could get addictive. Left over from years growing up with older brother.. As an older mom--maybe, ANY mom--I TOTALLY don't get it!
TahoeZephyr - Thanks so much for keeping us updated on your son’s experience in DTP and his Navy experience overall! The gunners mate rating sounds like a great option and I’m so glad he finally gets to get back on track. I wish your son and you all the best!!
CO-Twinsailormom - If your sailor is on a fast attack sub instead of a boomer, join instagram and follow Subspotr. It has given me valuable heads up when my son's sub has been spotted somewhere & I knew to have my phone on me at all times. Those unexpected calls are true gifts. 6 months sounds like a Boomer deployment though. :(
TahoeZephyr - I was thinking of you and your son the other day and wondering how things were progressing towards heading to his new A school. So glad to hear that things are progressing along, and you will be entering a new support group as well, but know you are always welcome here. Please continue to update us. All the best to your son and hugs to you!!
Good Thursday Morning everyone!! Finally snow has stopped. Now to dig out.
CO-TwinSalorsMom - It sure can be difficult not hearing. My son is still in A School, so I haven't experienced deployment but one of my dearest friend's son went in to the Navy and was on a carrier and there were many times when she did not know where he was because they couldn't say. I saw how hard it was on her. But he did fine. He is out now. He was just fine during deployment as I am sure your sailor will be. It's just the ones left behind because we don't know. I should mention that I am the mom of twin boys as well, Mine are fraternal. Night and Day, The second one did not go military and its a good thing because he would be just the one to challenge something if it didn't make sense to him. Instead he chose law school. He was what I used to say was "an argument waiting to happen" so I guess he chose well. Well, I know my turn to wonder will come up soon when my son is deployed, It's great to have people who understand here on this site to commiserate with.
B'sNuke, I know! I miss you already! We might just have to work something out to meet again down the road...
COTwin, I'm sorry about the deployment. Running silent is such a trial. Hang in there, Sea Sister. He will be fine and back home in due time. Come on in here when you need a dose of love & support.
TahoeZephyr, so glad your sailor has finally got something solid ahead. I looked up gunner's mate and that sounds awesome. Keep us posted. I'm interested in what ship he gets once his training is complete.
Communication on carriers is not bad. We send boxes and email is fairly regular. My sailor is married so most opportunities for phone calls and FaceTime are used on his kids, which is as it should be. However, when he is in port somewhere I can usually count on some kind of contact, whether FaceTime, phone or text. Having said all that, yes, deployment sucks.
SailorsLIMom - I had to laugh about your video game comments! I have 2 boys (one is my Nuke and another 15 yr old) and I play video games with them to stay connected! Since my Nuke has been waiting to class up and get really busy, we have been able to talk while playing video games each night! If we didn't play video games (League of Legends, FOrtnight, Minecraft) together, I doubt he would talk to me at all :) (but I grew up playing zelda and super mario brothers!)
Wow, the toll roads issue is frustrating - grrrrr. I agree J's/S'smom - sounds both incompetent and crooked! B lives in VA but he said he hasn't had any issues, but he also doesn't use the toll roads much.
CoTwin - hugs to you lady - keep busy (which I know you do!) so hopefully the deployment will go by fast.
NancyJo - we'll definitely have to work something out. I just can't believe your sons time is almost up in San Diego. Boy that seems to have gone by fast.
soccermom - glad your snow stopped. We're waiting for rain in our area today.
JayDee - I"m sure your snow will be lasting for a bit! Were you able to get in any skiing?
Beglish - fingers crossed you get an email. But like everyone said, just keeping sending yours in hopes that he'll get to read them!
SailorsLIMom - the video games could be a good distraction for your daughter when she has down time. Nothing wrong with that - they do need to unwind!
TahoeZephyr - thanks for the update - best of luck to him and please stick around to help out others!
Patti - can't believe we still don't have an update on your son!
Good Morning Ladies, Is there somewhere I can find the information about the lovely woman who delivers packages to our sailors? I'd like to send my son and his friends a care package but am concerned about sending it directly to him for fear that he won't get it. Thanks!
Thanks all for the comments about packages to subs, emails and calls, and the suggestion to join Instagram (only for my sailor would I do that!)! That's give me something to work on...figuring out how :-) It's helpful to be a part of a strong community of women who understand the deal that comes with being a military Mom.
B'sNukeMom sadly enough our ski resorts closed back in February due to the unseasonably warm and wet weather. After that it's hard for them to re-open. Even the 8" yesterday wouldn't be enough base and making more would have been costly especially since most of it has melted away today. My skis are sadly waiting in the corner of the basement until December. :(
Maybe we ought to have a Navy mom weekend in some fabulous city (maybe not Vegas after last time....). It would be like a Shriner's convention but with Navy Mom's. Nashville in the fall, Branson in summer, whatever. We pick a date and a place and if you can make it great, if not maybe next year.
Beglish...subspotr is awesome. I also learned about it from this group. I got to see my son's sub while it was underway. It was great because I was the first one in my family to learn about it. They were impressed!
JayDee...that sounds like a great idea!
Speaking of packages, I learned a valuable lesson: I had ordered a Mrs. Fields cookie for my son's birthday to be delivered to GC. It arrived on Monday per FedEx and to date my son has still not gotten a package slip. I gave him the tracking number but he seems reluctant to go check on it without the slip. One complicating factor is that he just graduated A School and did not have his new address yet so I sent it to the one with his A school class number. He also had not received the birthday card I mailed a week ago as of the last time I communicated with him yesterday. Disappointing!
Kaicat, Google "captains mast". Its basically a non judicial punishment and can have many outcomes. I've heard of some who are separated and some who just received another form of punishment.
Kai Cat - glad to hear your son has classed up. I assume Captain's Mast came up because they would have discussed issue re: it more indepth during INDOC.
The T in his class is just a designator for ET.
Re: Mail - so far I haven't had any issues with things that have been sent, but I generally tell my son when the pkgs are to be delivered and remind him to just go check in the mail room for him.
Well, between my youngest and I, I think we spent almost 3 hours on the phone with my son this afternoon. Today was his I&CE 3 exam and it was not the outcome he was hoping for. I also found out that at least for ET's they do not continue having PT at least during the last stage of ICE and they also don't have to run 5K again until they start Power School. It is my understanding that they will be switching over, if haven't already to morning 5K runs. If they are still in FIT because they did not pass their physical evaluation then they still have to do PT, but otherwise their class is relieved from that so they can study more. Only nothing took into account that they were confined to their BEQ during the tornado warning, so he lost homework and then study time this last Tuesday. He said the rain also just came in an instant and poured like it does when we are usually underground during our tornado times. Made me stop to realize I am going to need to plan for rainy weather there.
A girls trip sounds fun - Branson is doable for me!

momterp that doesn't surprise me. My son's packages sometimes took FOREVER for him to be notified. He finally decided to get a PO BOX instead.

It's crazy about the mail situation. Other than a lost package that she sent me we never had any trouble. Must he a change in staff.

I love the idea of a girls trip! I feel so shy about meeting in person, but so brave on-line!
Without a lot of details - when you are 'masted' does that mean you will be separated? Or no longer be a nuke?
I'm so happy today! Got my son's official class #1827-T! Anyone else in here with the same class? What does the T stand for?
Thanks ladies :)
