B'sNuke - I love the picture!! - It has not been a rough week for me, just a busy one like normal. But I have "been there - done that" with the house stuff, so I know the pressure. Thankfully, my 2nd inheritance house, I have been able to take things a little slower, but it still all needs to go. Prayers that things go smoothly.

  • bigsky21

JayDee, Lone Sailor sounds like a good bet!! I might have to get in on that too ;)

B'sNukeMom, that picture looks like how I feel today!! Holy cow it's been a long week, I'm ready for the weekend :)

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

NonnaB, your post is timely for me. My ex, my sailor's dad, has taken a bad turn and my nuke and his family are heading to Vegas this weekend, where he lives, to be with him. My oldest daughter is on her way there as well, and my other 2 daughters are deliberating how to proceed. We are so sad. I wish I could spare my children this ordeal but it is the way life is sometimes. Thank God this didn't happen while my son was deployed. That was my fervent prayer. The rest of your note, NonnaB, was so wonderful and upbeat. There is still so much to be joyful about.

JayDee, one of our NE navy moms has a balloon ride company so we see lots of balloon pictures, but there is nothing like an event like the one you shared. It just takes your breath away.

  • JayDee659

NancyJo, safe travels to your children as they go to visit their father.  Just one more reminder that we just aren't in charge.

My great niece was diagnosed with what they're calling lymphoma leukemia.  She's a 17 year old honor student with a bright future.  Now she has tumors in her neck and groin and will be in the hospital for at least a month while they start her treatment and get things rolling.  My sister-in-law is beside herself.  This girl is only a few years younger than my Nuke, but she adored her big cousin.  I hated this to be the first news I gave to my Nuke when she returned from underway.  We just are NOT in charge here.

As far as balloons go, I love watching them and that's it.  I've been up in a tethered hot air balloon and that was enough for me, thank you.  Kentucky Derby Festival is quiet the thing.  There's a race the day before the Derby for the fillies called the Oaks.  It was once the race for us locals but has become so popular that we can't get tickets.  Now we have "Thurbay" as they're calling the Thursday before Derby.

NancyJo - so glad your prayers for your son to be home for his father, were answered. My prayers for your family as they traverse this road in the journey of life. We said good by to my FIL when he was just 60, our youngest was a toddler. My sailor has a lot of similar characteristics and looks a lot like his G'pa.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Oh JayDee - I'm so sorry to hear about your niece.  I hope that the treatment is effective.

And NancyJo - sorry to hear that things have taken a turn for the worse for your ex.  I'm glad though that the kids are able to be with him.  What a tough thing to have to go through.  Sending prayers....

Heading out for an early weekend - have a good one everyone!

  • momc

It has been awhile since I have been on the site, and it took me a while to catch up with everything that is being shared.  The past week has been more stressful than usual.

Last week, my husband and I decided to get away for the weekend.  We took some leisurely drives through the countryside.  On our way home, which was Sunday, our car stopped and wouldn't restart.  Fortunately, a couple of good Samaritans stopped to give us a hand.   They drove us around the small town very close to where we broke down.  Some local folks gave us the name of a shop where we could drop off the car and also recommendations for a place to stay.  It is heart warming to know that there are really good people out there that will lend a hand when needed.

Long story short, the cars engine would need to be replaced, which would cost more than the car is currently worth.  We took time to remember all the great family travels we made in that vehicle and then it was time to find our way home.  With the help of more great individuals we made it home safe and sound Monday evening.

Thursday, yesterday, there was a explosion in our small northern Wisconsin city.  We travel through it everyday and I am sure some of you may have seen it on the National news.

I have shared the story below.  We are thankful that there were very few injuries and no fatalities.

    http://www.superiortelegram.com/news/accidents/4437226-update-super...

    Have a great weekend!

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

momc, I am convinced there are far more good people in the world than the other. I'm sorry to hear about the car. That's such a bummer! I hate car stuff. Glad that got figured out. the explosion is just terrible.

JayDee, prayers for your niece. So tragic but they can do wonderful things with cancer these days. I know a man who got a clean bill of health just this last month after something that sounds similar to your niece. I pray your niece gets the same result.

I think spring has finally sprung. It's glorious outside. I hope you all get some sunshine this weekend.

  • Buzzbeck

Momc, what a horrific event. I pray that no further devastation will happen.

Your trip reminds me of an epic camping trip we took to eastern Oregon when the kids were young, which ended with a breakdown in a small town in the middle of the night. Numerous people from the town of John Day helped my husband find parts, repair our car, even paid for our motel room for days through the ordeal. I will never forget their kindness. This country is indeed full of caring people.

Jaydee, the photo is beautiful. I will be praying for your niece.

  • soccermom19

JayDee659 - That is sad news to share.  I will put your niece in my prayers.

  • Rebecca J

JayDee 659... I'm so sorry about your great neice. I will be praying for her. I was recently diagnosed with Chronic lymphocytic Luekemia and it has changed my life.  There are so many new treatments for Luekemia . I pray your neice can be put into remission quickly, but it is still so hard to see someone so young go through that.

  • Chipmunk

Welcome to the new members who have joined us this weekend!! Be sure to share with us, where you are at in your Navy journey.

My son is currently at GC doing T-track ( A transition time between A school and Power school, where they mostly stand watch in various locations or do cleaning duty.)

  • hds27

Chipmunk40 my son is currently on T-Track as well but class up is on May 10th.

  • Chipmunk

hds27 - Thank you. Yes, my son confirmed his class up date with me as May 10th as well.

  • SubMom

I hope everyone has had a beautiful weekend. Spring finally showed up in Michigan and has decided to stay - I am very happy for that!

momc - So glad you made it home safe and sound. Thankful that the explosion did not cause more damage and no fatalities. That is definitely NOT what you want to come home to!

NancyJo - your kids, ex and you are in my prayers. There really are no words when something like this happens.

JayDee659 - I pray for knowledgeable doctors and a treatment that will get her to remission quickly. On a different note - I love the hot air balloons. I have a BIL that does all sorts of hot air events.

  • SubMom

I was wondering if the Villas are on base. Also looking for a hotel that has a hot breakfast if our sailor can't reserve the Villas. Hope everyone has a fantastic week!

  • Chipmunk

SubMom - not sure on Villas, I will defer that to someone else. Regarding hotel. We stayed at the Days Inn in GC that is the closest to NNTPC on Red Banks RD. In April, they had a pancake maker, and little egg omlets (no veggies, just egg/cheese) and sausage patties, then danishes, instant oatmeal and cold cereal, yogurt, toppings for cereal, bread, apples, juice, & coffee.

I don't believe there is a pool there though if you want that option, otherwise a fridge / microwave. I am sure others will chime in as well.

  • pandalvr

We were just in GC, stayed in Quailty Inn. There are redoing the rooms. They are 10-15 min on the same road as base. They had a nice hot breakfast. We only negative thing is a train goes by 1/hour. It realy didnt bkther us. The room rate was good for a Saturday night.

  • pandalvr

Forgot to mention, they had outdoor pool

  • CSW

At Quality Inn if you tell them you're a military family here for graduation you'll get a military rate.

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

RebeccaJ, I'm so sorry to hear about your leukemia! Prayers that you beat that monster. It's true that they can do amazing things. Sounds like you are doing well?

Welcome new moms! Glad to have you here. This is a great support for us all.

My sailor lost his dad Saturday night. He couldn't bear to be there at the moment of Dad's passing but his 4 sisters stood around the bed and sang Dad's favorite tunes as he slipped away. His heartbeat changed as they began to sing and we believe he heard the sweet voices of his girls and went to heaven singing along. My sailor sounded OK last night but they lost a few important days getting their house ready for the movers to come and make the move to Goose Creek. Life goes on and keeping busy will help. It was heartwarming to hear how the grandchildren were able to come to Grandpa's bedside to say I love you. A couple of them were very chatty and didn't want to leave him. Sweet little ones. Being divorced it was weird for me. I wanted to be there for my kids but there really was no place for me. I had said my goodbyes to him some months ago and he had another wife. I'm glad for my kids that they know there was affection between us and they are free to speak of him to me. Weird, though. Now my focus is my sailor's move to SC.

Someone asked about the Villas? Yes they are on base and I thought they were great. However, many people are always going in and out of Charleston and most places are very accommodating. COTwin's mom did an airbnb thing and was very pleased. There are lots of options. Good luck!

  • CSW

Special hugs to all the Navy Moms, wives and sisters who are facing extra challenges this week. We have your back.

  • Chipmunk

NancyJo - my condolences to your family!  I am glad that your children had an opportunity to spend some final moments with him. Prayers for your son and wife as they are also trying to move, death has a way of making interruptions in the plans of the living, as I know all too well. I pray for rest and peace, and hopefully some friendly volunteers who can come to their aid.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

NancyJo - I'm so sorry to hear about your ex's passing but I'm glad the kids and grandlittles got to be there to say goodbye.  And that's so sweet that they sang his favorite songs to him.  I'm praying that the is at peace now.

Submom - you were asking about the villas - if you look in the discussion forum above you will find info on them - along with some other recommendations on places to stay.  I think anyone who has stayed there has been happy with them.

We survived the garage sale at my moms new place.  For now I'll just leave it at that lol!

I need to catch up on the weekend comments.....for now I'll just say Happy Monday!

  • kai cat

I have been really quiet on here lately - but I just wanted to say *big hugs* to all of you! It has seemed to be a challenging week!

B'sNuke, the garage sale sounds like a good story. Too bad we can't share it over margaritas. It just sounds like that kind of story. LOL

Welcome to our newest member ~ SSCMs!

Be sure to read the ***NEW MEMBERS*** info up above and of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have.

  • NickSydmom

Nancy joe, even though you weren’t still married he was the father of your children and you will mourn. I’m sorry for your loss.

  • NickSydmom

For the mom asking about the villas, I stayed there a few weeks ago. They are like duplexes. They are probably from the 80s. Old but clean comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need to make him all his favorites from home. We got the three bedroom and he got to stay with us in his own room. I loved it. I will definitely stay again.

  • SubMom

Thank you everyone for your input on the Villas. If we don't stay there for this visit we will definitely look at them for graduation!

  • SubMom

NancyJo - I pray you, your kids and grand kids will find comfort knowing that he is no longer in pain. Prayers and hugs to all of you!

  • Chipmunk

I have just added a posting regarding T-track to my above discussion Nuke A school daily schedule - sailor's perspective - It took me awhile to coordinate with my son and his watch schedule to help me put this together. I hope it will answer some questions for those of you that are still waiting for this part of your loved one's Nuke journey at GC.

SSCMs, DannysDad, and any others who still have loved ones at BC, I have a post on BC Moms (and loved ones) group What PIR weekend may be like for those flying out of GL  that you might find useful if you have not read it already.

  • Buzzbeck

RebeccaJ, I miss your comment on your health. I will keep you in my prayers.

Chipmunk, I am just now reading your Nuke A School Discussion. You have put allot of work into that. Our nuke never talked, so I never knew much. Thank you for your effort.

Our nuke has been at Pearl Harbor 8 months, and has decided that he wants his  vehicle shipped there. I hear conflicting reports, must you ship at the time of transfer, or do you have 1 year?

  • Chipmunk

Buzzbeck - Thank you. When I realized others on this site didn't hear much from their nukes, I wanted to share the information my son was telling me. It helped that he was INDOC for a month and had a little more time to talk.

  • Rebecca J

Buzzbeck. ...thank you. I am trying to have a good attitude about this. I have a check up Thursday hoping for  good numbers.  I really appreciate your prayers and support .

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Tuesday!

Rebecca J - I'm sorry I missed your post too (the weekend was a blur for me!).  I am sending prayers that your check up goes well on Thursday and your numbers are good.

Chipmunk - thank you for keeping the info updated (and current) on nuke school.  It's hard for me to even remember sometimes what went on when my son was in the pipeline.  Thank goodness for you new members!

Buzzbeck - that's a good question - hopefully someone has an answer.  I'm going to keep my fingers crossed he has a year so that way he can still get it with no cost to him!

We got some rain this morning here in sunny SoCal!  What a surprise :-D

Planning our vacation - heading to Sundance, UT at the end of the month.  I was really hoping B & his GF could fly out to join us but no such luck.  At least we'll get to see them in Vegas at the end of June!  Now I just need to find someone to watch the dog - my usual dog sitter is unavailable :(

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Happy May Day!

  • Rebecca J

B'sNukeMom....thank you. Utah I love it there. My favorite state. Vacations are so wonderful!!!

  • Chipmunk

Rebecca J - You have been in my prayers and on my heart as well, even though I haven't shared yet. I am sure others are surrounding you with love from a distance also.

  • Chipmunk

So, I have to laugh at all of the weekday funny pictures!! I enjoy them, but I also find it rather amusing that I look at my week totally opposite. For me, I contemplate everything that I have not gotten done in the week yet, so far. My caption would be - Yeah!! it is only Tuesday, I still have 3 more days until I have to be ready for the weekend!  Which is #3's graduation from college, on the same weekend as an annual convention I attend, and Friday is my birthday. So, I better get back to work,  because Friday morning will be here before I know it, and I will say, "what happened to my week?" --- I love the May flowers!!!!
