Oh yes, these dedicated Nukes that are finishing Power School need our prayer and support. Looking back at photos from Power School graduation, our nuke looked pale and GAUNT from the pressure. But he made it through, and so will many more.
Sgtsixpack - I sent you a pm but you will need to accept my friend request to get it. I am going to Power School grad this Friday.
My young man passed his comp test and Power School class with flying colors. He is then bound for New York. Thanks momterp - hope we see your son this weekend.
And since we fly out tomorrow I better start thinking about packing. I think I'll sleep and then pack. Nothing like the last minute but that's what happens when you just finish moving 2 days before. But now we can truly enjoy our time with our son as we're completely out of our old house and have signed all the papers on the sale.
I just wanted to encourage any of our new or not so new members to feel free to ask questions here in the comment section. If someone doesn't know the answer, there will be someone else who does, or we will figure it out together.
ProudOfK - BZ to your son! So glad you got everything done with the house and can enjoy Power School grad! Have fun :-D
My mom's house went on the market over the weekend and she already got an offer yesterday for $20k over asking price! There's some other interested parties so they've asked her to wait one week so everyone can see the house and then she can accept an offer. I'm crossing my fingers by this time next week she'll be in escrow - and then I don't have to worry about going on my vacation lol!
Sgtsixpack - be sure to get in touch with ProudOfK so you can get some pictures - I knew someone would come through for you! Way to go nuke moms!!!
NancyJo - How is everyone doing on your end?
PattiP - any news on the DD214?
Rebecca J - we've never been to Sundance before - we normally go to Mammoth in the summer but I hear this is very similar. Looking forward to it ~ I really need a vacation!
Anybody know when or how the sailors at GC go about getting their teeth cleaned? This mom is getting rather bothered because my son is now about to miss two dental cleanings and check ups from the schedule I had our family on and so far he hasn't heard anything about getting his teeth cleaned. He checked around Nov/ Dec and was told they would do it later. I can't remember if it was during T-track or Power School. He also said they only get their teeth checked once a year! I am beginning to think I should have told our dentist to just have cleaned his teeth in Dec and I would have paid out of pocket for it, when he was home. Thanks for any insight from anyone.
Chipmunk - Big Kid had his teeth cleaned during T-track. I think he received a call one day saying show up such-and-such day time for your appointment. I don't know about the once a year part.
Chipmunk - my son had his wisdom teeth pulled while he was on t-track. True to form for him, he didn't say anything to me about it at the time. I heard about it later when he told me he had gotten an infection as a result of an error the civilian dentist who had done the procedure had made. He said he'd never had a problem with the Navy dentists. The "error" ended up being a crack in his sinus. Ouch! After a few weeks of pain and antibiotics all turned out just fine.
Hi I am new to the group. My son has passed ELT school and will be shipped out early summer. We will be going to visit him before he leaves. I feel the hardest will be no communication for x amount of months. He is my mini me and we talk once a week. He will be fine but I’m not so sure I will be. Just thought I’d say hello.
Mrs. Ginger - My son is an ELT as well! He's finished with school and in Washington State waiting for his sub to arrive. I too am wondering how I'll survive without communication, but I'm more concerned about him and his girlfriend going so long without communication. They have a "plan" in place, which is great, and will be fine.
Mrs. Ginger will your son be on a sub or carrier? My daughter is on a carrier and I was quite surprised about how frequently she would call. It seems that they are either so busy they don't know what to do or on their off time are so slow that they need distraction. :)
PacNWmom - thank you. I think I am mostly getting antsy because they class up next week and I am thinking if they are going to do this they need to get it done!!
Mrs. Ginger - you are farther along in the pipeline than I am, but you will find a lot of support from the members here, especially those "been there done that" ones.
pandalvr - thank you for concerns. OK had their first tornado touch down May 1st. I think the weatherman said we had gone 191 days since the last. The sirens went off last night and I waited for my husband to holler, but they were watching the radar screens and so we didn't go down in the shelter. I really don't like going out in the rain to go underground, so we make sure it is dire.
Friday, I will have my red on and Saturday I will have my blue on for daughter #3's graduation from OCU.
For those that may have SR at BC and are not on BCMoms group to see this information, I am reposting it here. I noticed yesterday in chat that OldSarge updated his survival guide. Patti - OMG - this is getting beyond ridiculous - I agree, he needs to go up the chain of command and find out what the hold up is. And I sure hope they are continuing to pay him!
Mrs Ginger - he'll be fine and so will you! Just stick around here for support and we'll get you through the deployments and underways!
Chipmunk - scary with the tornado warnings - do be careful!
I talked to B last night - he had his last 3 finals yesterday and is now done with school (for now)! Graduation is May 12th (he'll have his associates in Mechanical Engineering Tech) but he's not walking. I told him we would make one last visit to VA to see him graduate but he said he already told them he wasn't walking and to just mail him his degree lol. He'll be packing up and heading to MI in the next few weeks. His roommate will be heading out on an underway and he wants to wait until he's back before he leaves. Now he's still trying to decide whether he wants to continue at MSU or get a job.....he's weighing his options. I talked to his GF the other day too and she also finished up her semester and is so looking forward to B getting there ;-D
My mom is continuing to receive offers on her house - another one came in yesterday - $25k over asking. This is crazy. She hopes to be in escrow this time next week. I sure hope so!
I remember when B was in school he said they would just come in and tell them "you have a dentist appointment tomorrow" and you would go for a cleaning. I do think it was only once a year though and when he went to prototype (NY) I'm not sure if they got him in for a cleaning. PacNWmom - that sounds very painful :(
And today is my Hubby's 58th birthday! Happy Birthday to him <3
B'sNuke, so amazing about Mom's house! So happy for you all. All that work paid off. Also, Happy Birthday to Mr. B'sNuke!!
PattiP, good grief! Enough is enough! He better get paid. Have they just forgotten about him?
Ginger, I too have an ELT. Mine just completed his 3rd deployment and is soon heading for shore duty in GC. He posted on FB yesterday a goodbye to his ship. If your sailor is on a sub, communication will be sketchy and the sub moms here can fill you in about that better than I. Carriers have it a little better in that regard. I'm afraid part of our role as Navy moms is getting used to silences that used to not be. Not fun but that's what this group is here for.
As a midwesterner we don't get too worried about tornadoes until they are right over our heads. In NE most of us have good basements and cellars, not the storm shelters that our southern brothers and sisters have to have. (It freaked me when I lived in Alabama and nobody had basements.) We know this is the time of year for them and we have had doozies. But, every area of the country has something. We don't have water-logged hurricanes or earthquakes, not too many fires. We have the occasional blizzard but nothing like the Great Lakes states. We just go with the flow I guess.
Thanks for the warm wishes on the death of my kids' dad. It's a process, as anyone knows who has lost someone. My 2nd daughter is taking it hard and reacting with rage when someone rubs her the wrong way. I was early picking her up from the airport and she about took my head off, saying I was rushing her. I'm talking total meltdown. I'm just remembering that she is processing in her own way and praying the rage transitions swiftly to something else. The others seem to be doing better. Crazy how grief works.
NancyJo - yep, it's pretty crazy about my mom's house. I'm so happy that it wasn't the other way around and no interest! Soon this will all be behind us - I can't wait ;-D
I'm so sorry to hear that daughter #2 is feeling this rage. You are right though - grief works in mysterious ways. Keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers <3
I'll stick with our occasional earthquake thank you!

Kbpoohbear - I sent you a friend request. I have to sign off for awhile but I will check back when I can.
Kbpoohbear - definitely needs of the Navy although they will ask them for their choices - maybe it's to make the sailors feel like they have some input lol. My son wanted MM and he got it. I do believe there are more openings for MM so that would be an easier choice to get. When it came time for him to pick his first duty station he ended up with Norfolk - last on his list lol! But hey, at least they asked :-/
The key is to be flexible and not set your hopes to high. They will (must) learn to roll with everything...
Before he left I asked what he wanted, his answer was whatever they would let him do. I read up on the different areas and my head is spinning. I don't know which I would want him in. Now he knows but I don't. I really just hope his dreams come true and they are not nightmares. ;) Thank you ladies.
"Sorting Hat" Bwahahaha (if you don't get that then I can't believe you raised a nuke!) :)
I've read that they get interviewed by someone and asked what rate they want, but as noted below it's needs of the Navy. Mine wanted EM. Not sure why other than he probably read that ET was the longest/hardest. He of course was assigned ET. Why? I dunno. Maybe it was his ASVAB score. Sorting hat!! Bwaaahahaaaaa! The navy has all kinds of sneaky ways to figure out which sailors will fit in the square holes and which sailors go in the round holes. We can request but the navy will put them where they think they will fit best. But then, if the navy is loaded with MMs and needs an ET, they figure these smart kids will figure it out.
B's BZ to B! (sorry I couldn't resist). MSU is a wonderful school, my grandpa went to MSU.
Wow, busy day. RED Friday, Star Wars Day and around here it's Oaks Day. The Oaks (for those of you who don't know) is the race for the fillies. I've got some $ on Eskimo Kiss and I've sent my Derby bets to the track with my boss. Lone Sailor is my pick for tomorrow even though he's at 50-1 odds he looked good this morning during his training run.
I got a beautiful picture of the sunrise over the ocean from my Nuke yesterday. I love those pics.
lolol JayDee! Now he just needs to decide if he wants to do more schooling or start working. His GF is at MSU too and she'll be continuing there for another 2 years.
I've been watching the chatter about Lone Sailor. Oh I hope he could pull off a win! That would be so cool :)
B'sNukeMom if the odds stay that high it will be a lucrative win, but I'm sure they'll come down closer to post. Justify looked impressive this morning and there's a lot of chatter here about Mendelsson.
B did prototype in Ballston Spa (Saratoga Springs) and we visited twice. We went by Saratoga but the time of year we were there they weren't racing :( His brother visited him one time over the summer and he got to go see the horse races. They had a really good time! This was them at the races.
pandalvr - we always watch it on TV too. Hubby tapes it so we can rewind and watch over and over lol.
Pandalvr we rarely go to the track and never for Derby or Oaks. I hate crowds and the traffic is unbelievable Our office has a suite in the Jockey Club and we girls get to go once a year. We used to go derby week but have voted to make it in the summer now so it's warmer and less crowded.
With that being said, B'sNukeMom if you're ever in my town give me a call. I can probably arrange something - as long as it's not derby week.
My brother married a girl from Lexington KY. As part of their pre-wedding festivities we went to Keeneland (where part of Seabiscuit was filmed) to watch the races. It was freezing cold, but tons of fun. What a beautiful place!

Kbpoohbear -here's a little explanation of what the different jobs study:
MM: Mathematics, physics, thermodynamics, mechanical theory, fluid flow, safety, general engineering maintenance, hand tools and test equipment, valves, piping fittings, bearings and lubrication, pumps, steam turbines, reduction gears, heat exchanges, condensers, air ejectors, air compressors, refrigeration, air conditioning, evaporators, propulsion plant piping systems overview
EM: Mathematics, physics, AC/DC electrical theory, test equipment, maintenance and repair, safety, transistor theory, vacuum tube theory, communications, transmitters, receivers, pulse techniques, synchro-servos, magnetism and magnetic amplifiers, digital electronics, microprocessors, radar, AC/DC motors and generators
ET: Mathematics, physics, AC/DC electrical theory, test equipment, maintenance and repair, safety transistor theory, vacuum tube theory, communications, transmitters, receivers, pulse techniques, synchro-servos, magnetism and magnetic amplifiers, digital electronics, microprocessors, radar, AC/DC motors and generators
My son wanted the MM because he said it was more mechanical in nature and more hands on. It worked for him.

Nothing like a sunrise over the ocean ;-D
