SSCMs - from bootcamp to prototype graduation it's about 2 years give or take.....once he starts A school things should start moving fairly smoothly - it's when they hit prototype that they often have delays. You'll get used to the hurry up & wait (and your son will hopefully enjoy some of the down time!).
I'm glad you purchased the insurance! Have a wonderful time on Friday - I'm sure you are really looking forward to seeing him in his uniform and getting that HUG! (How long did he end up being in BC for?) His perseverance has paid off!
Be sure to read the ***NEW MEMBERS*** info up above and of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have. Your profile says your son is enlisted - at what stage is he in the nuke pipeline or is he already through it?
B’sNukeMom⚓️MMN i do have tons of questions. Just trying to figure out my way around this site. He’s not quite out of the pipeline yet. He just finished with his prototype school and off to the next phase of training.
Octos - if he finished protoype then he's done with the pipeline. Unless he got picked up for ELT school or welding? Has he completed his final boards and received his orders?
B’sNukeMom I’m sorry for sounding ignorant but I thought once they finish prototype they go to the the next phase of training. However, I know he did complete his final boards and receive his new orders. So then he is done with the pipeline.
Octos - no you don't sound ignorant! There's a lot to learn about the nuke pipeline but it sounds like you've (and your son) made it through it already - BZ to him! Do you know where his orders are for and carrier or sub? It's ok to say where if you want.....
PattiP, so happy for you and your son! Now, he's ready for the rest of his life. :D Hooyah! Thank you to your son for his service, and thank you too. We moms serve time too, just in a different way. Please don't go away from this site. You have so much to offer moms who have so much ahead of them.
My son started his new job teaching prototype on Monday and he spent a couple days just getting checks, etc. He says the real job starts today. So, if any of your sailors are in prototype in GC, chances are good you will meet my son. Good luck to all our sailors making their way through the pipeline!
PattiP - Wow!!! So nice to hear that everything is finally official now for your son! Thank him for his service! I'm excited to see what he ends up doing next - keep us posted and I hope you stick around ;-D
NancyJo - good luck to your son on his new instructor assignment ~ I know he'll do great. Looks like you'll get to make some more visits to Charleston! I'm going to miss your trips to San Diego though :(
Octos Navy Mom - I left some info for you on your page in response to groups.
PattyP - so glad to hear everything has gotten straightened out. Best of luck to him. I forward to hearing about what he does next.
NancyJo- My son will be starting Power School in July so it sounds like he will be there while my son is in Prototype!! I don't know how many instructors teach in Prototype but odds are he will run into him at some point. :))
NNLori, I can't recall right now if there are 2 reactors in GC or 1. Two I believe but I could be wrong. Normally the sailors are assigned to 1 plant so if there are 2 plants, chances are 50% your son will meet mine. I guess I should find that out. :^/
Welcome to our newest member ~ Heather! Be sure to read the ***NEW MEMBERS*** info at the top of the page, and of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have.
LOVE soccer-grew up playing it, married into it and raised 2 goal keepers to boot. Would have loved to be in Germany to see them win it-that's my old stomping grounds as a military brat.
I can't mix my sports yet, I've got to reserve my energy to root for my beloved Oregon State Beavers as they head to Omaha, for the College World Series. Go Beavs!
I have been away from the site for the past 2 months. I have a new job which has me traveling a lot and very long hours. So much to do, but love it. I missed quite a bit of comments. I finally feel like I have room to breathe and begin reading what's going on here now.
I do want to say a hearty congratulations to all those celebrating events. NNL - I guess my son and yours will be in the same power school class.
I see all the comments regarding soccer. I raised a soccer player too. Lots of travel for that. He was on a high level team - many, many tournaments in many different states. I really became quite a fan of international soccer as well. Can't wait to see how things go for the World Cup. So sad the men's team did not qualify.
I am very excited to say I am going to visit my son in GC in a couple of weeks for the weekend. He is T Track and waiting for power school to begin, so we thought it would be a good time for us to catch up.
soccermom, welcome back! Your name says it all. LOL JayDee, I call German my mother tongue since I am by heritage 100% Austrian though I can't really speak more than a dozen or so words. I would love to know the words to that song!
Buzzbeck, I live in Omaha! We love our College World Series. The local teams hardly ever get in so people tend to just pick a team and root for it. I know several who have liked the Beavers over the years. Now that I know you are a Beaver fan, I'm on board, Sea Sister! You aren't in town by any chance, are you? The temps will be very high, unfortunately. We're looking at 100* for the next couple days.
There is a restaurant in town that in years past has created a custom hamburger for each of the teams in the College World Series. As teams are eliminated those burgers are off the menu and by the end the winner burger is permanently added to the menu. Over time, of course, if nobody wants to eat it, it's removed but it's a fun thing to do.
I think I'm going to be in GC for Thanksgiving, once I get the green light from my son. If any of you plan on being there then, maybe we can get together. It's a long way off but if it's possible, put me on your radar.
Nancy Jo, I tried googling it and cannot find it. I'll ask my Nuke when she surfaces again and she can probably find a link for me. Drives me insane as it pops in to my head at the oddest moments.
My Nuke put in a chit to come home for Father's Day but it was denied. Her dad didn't know as it was going to be a surprise, but I'm so disappointed now. I was full of plans on how she could surprise him and was really invested in the idea. Once again, the needs of the Navy. Hopefully she'll get home this fall to see us! Our oldest daughter surprised me with a mothers day visit (she hid in the dog crate and almost gave me a heart attack). She won't be home either but we're vacationing in Florida with her and her boyfriend in a couple weeks.
From what I've seen and heard so far, I'm rooting for Spain to win the World Cup, in spite of their head coaching change 2 days ago. But I reserve the right to change my mind.
I also raised soccer players. Spent many hours in the car and at fields over the years. Loved every minute of it. My minivan has a "Soccer Taxi" bumper sticker. :D
My Nuke played soccer from 4 years old until high school. Girls soccer is in the fall here and that interfered with marching band and ROTC. She was a good player, half back maybe? But I sure loved marching band and drill team.
My son graduated today and is leaving for goose Creek tomorrow. He gave me his flight time and looked confused when I asked which airport, he decided on OHare. The problem is the flight time matches a flight from midway. I don't know where to meet him, what can I do?
