B'sNuke, so glad you enjoyed the Navy/Notre Dame game. I was jealous! I never really heard of the leap frogs. Thanks for the link. Sorry about the Dodgers, though. It was a struggle from the beginning for them. The Red Sox really played well. Neither team was mine but it was fun to watch.
I also love the PowerSchool link. It mentions KAPL where my navy nuke SIL got a job after he got his degree on the post 9/11 bill. So many opportunities for our sailors post-navy.
Yes, he and my daughter both worked at the Niskayuna plant. When she decided she wanted to be an at-home mom they decided to move closer to family. I didn't know they had training there.
NancyJo - the Niskayuna plant doesn't have Navy training there, just the Milton plant (Saratoga/Ballston Spa) - that's where prototype is. That's pretty cool that your SIL and daughter both worked there. Does he still work for KAPL?
And just an FYI - all this is public record on the wikipedia site - I'm not saying anything that is against OPSEC.
My sister lives in Norway and she said that today she was super excited to see out her window 8 Battleships making there way through their Fyord. This is the link to the NATO exercise. What an amazing thing to get to see!
Freebird, that's cool! I bet living in Norway is cool too. I just read last week that the Crown Princess of Norway has been diagnosed with chronic pulmonary fibrosis. Sad. I've never been there but it just seems so beautiful. Thanks for sharing the link. The moms here share the neatest stuff!
My SIL is no longer w/ KAPL. He works for the nuclear plant in Brownville NE as a senior engineer. My daughter likes that she can talk intelligently to him about his work. If you moms have tried to talk nuclear w/ your sailors, you know what I'm talking about!
Freebird - wow, that would be exciting! Thank you for sharing the link too ;-D
NancyJo - Ok I do remember that they are closer to home now. That's nice that there is a plant close to you so you can see the grandlittles! Definitely know what you are talking about on the nuke conversations lol! I've been around B & his GF when they start talking about something nuke related and it's pretty cool to see the interaction - of course I'm lost but oh well! I like that they have this in common ;-D Speaking of grandlittles - I hope we get to see some Halloween pictures of them!
I happened across last week's PIR on YouTube, and had it on for background. The graduation speaker was Colonel Leslie Darling, who commands Military Entry Processing east of the Mississippi. I couldn't help thinking of that joke. (She was an excellent speaker, better versed in brevity than most.)
I just found out that my Nuke-in-law got hia dolphins. So happy for him. Apparently he's working the kitchen and that duty comes with its own rack, so for now he does not have to hotrack!
Let me start with - I don’t know what I would do without this group. Most of the time I just lurk in the background and have had most of my questions answered because someone else asked them before I could. My sailor is often amazed at how much I know without having to ask him to clarify. But Sunday I got a phone call from him and he was quite upset about something that had occurred while he was working. Yesterday I got an email from him saying that he had been “removed from watch pending upgrade.” I don’t want to add to his distress by asking what that means. Can someone tell me so I know how to better help him get through this snag?
mattsmom - I asked my son and his response was, "He is not allowed to stand watch until something is upgraded." But what that upgrade actually is, he doesn't know. It could be medical or lost qualification for that watch for some reason and needs to get it back.
We tried to google it and that didn't bring up anything for this specific comment.
Chipmunk, thank you. That definitely connects from what he told me happened on Sunday then. It is so hard to be so far away from them sometimes knowing that they are struggling and you can’t even give them a hug for comfort.
Glad to help. My son was available to help me answer the question. And yes, it is hard to not be able to hug and comfort. It is also hard to send off your sailor and know they aren't feeling well. We never stop being mom with all of our children.
mattsmom: Just asked my daughter at Ballston Spa. She said it means that he didn't get the required sign-off to complete that watch. Most likely, he'll have to do more work to correct the problem. :(( We've had our share of tears when things haven't gone right, it must be harder with young men, the stiff upper lip thing. And the Navy thing. The best comfort we can offer is to be there and listen. They're so restricted in what they can tell us.
RebeccaJ - so excited for you sailor. I hope your next email states he has his dolphins!
JayDee659 - Bravo Zulu to your nuke-in-law on getting his dolphins. That is so cool!
mattsmom - my sailor has classmates that have been upgraded. Some were due to medical issues that had them behind and others that didn't complete watch to the standards that are in place. In each case, extra watches are assigned to allow the sailor to get the sign off he/she needs. Big hugs to you and your sailor.
On another note -my husband and I will see our Nuke over Thanksgiving. So very blessed to have another visit with him. I know soon enough he will be deployed and out of pocket. Hoping everyone is having a great day!!
Submom...I'm so glad you will be able to see your nuke at Thanksgiving. These times really are precious . There's a slight chance we might be able to be with ours!
The time apart, just makes you so.thankful for any time you get!
ProudofK - So exciting to see your Nuke about to move on to the next phase! Nice to be on the same coast, at least!! Road trips!
My son could use prayers. He bought himself a nice little car a few months ago and he just told me that it got stolen earlier this week. He's so stoic about everything, but I know he's got to be hurting.
WonderGeekWoman, I'm so sorry about your son's car being stolen. When my sailor and his family were moving cross-country from Ballston Spa to San Diego they stopped in Las Vegas to visit his dad. Overnight his seabag was stolen from the top of their van, in the driveway of the house in a gated community. He lost all his uniforms and nothing was ever recovered. I believe most people in this world are good people but the ones who are not sure make it tough for the rest. Your sailor will get past this and meanwhile the sailors do look out for each other and help each other out.
I'll see my sailor and family also on Thanksgiving. I'm so glad! I miss them tons.
Meanwhile here's my SC 2 and my NE 6+1 (the big boy in the picture is a friend) on Halloween:
NancyJo, what great pictures! My nieces have been posting really awesome pictures of their kids and themselves. I have to say, my brother's kids go all out and do the quality costumes and make up.
My Nuke went to a party at a friends house. They were characters from How to Tame a Dragon (note the dragon necklace around her neck). Not sure who the other gal is, but she's somebody's Nuke.
WonderGeekWoman and NancyJo - that is sooo awful - hate when these things happen to anyone but it is doubly awful when it is to our active duty military. I can't imagine dealing with all of that.
And thank you WonderGeekWoman - it will be nice having him much closer. And on that note he passed his oral boards early this morning - he is now a fully qualified ET nuke. I'm proud and ecstatic - but I'm also feeling just a little sad - this is the first time I wasn't there for graduation. And as it happens he didn't participate in graduation anyway - I think he could have but decided he preferred not to. So I should just be happy and really I am - just can't shake that little feeling that if we'd been there he would have participated. At any rate - hopefully he'll be home soon - I'm counting on him being here for Thanksgiving - trying to remind myself I better not count on anything until it's for sure.
JayDee, that girl is on top of the world. Love the attitude.
Congrats, ProudOfK! So great your sailor has passed that milestone! I didn't get to all the graduations either. Part of the deal sometimes when we live far away. :(
Oh WonderGeekWoman - that is horrible! So sad that someone would do that to him. Hopefully he had full coverage and his insurance will replace his car - but still it isn't the same :(
NancyJo - I remember when your son had that happen to him and I am still shocked that it happened in a gated community! Love the pics of the grandlittles! Adorable as usual ;-D So glad you get to see them for Thanksgiving!
ProudOfK - woohoo - what a wonderful accomplishment for your son - a relief I'm sure to be done! Now on to the next phase! Enjoy your Thanksgiving with him!
JayDee - How fun that they dressed up! Glad they got to have some fun!
Has anyone purchased air travel thru Sandboxx? If so, was it a good experience? I need to buy a ticket for my sailor to come home for a few days after Christmas. Thanks in advance!
