There's been a lot of confusion over the PS graduation date that got pushed out from 12/14 due to the hurricane....just got text from son that they confirmed Thursday 12/20 for grad...
Today is my husband's 60th birthday! Big surprise party is tomorrow. I think he is a little disappointed today, but he will understand tomorrow ! Our sailor will miss this one.
My son’s friends were as happy to see him as we were. Back to the empty nest for me but what a great visit we had a whole week! And my guy is the one on the left
Wanted to post an update on my sailor - he sent me an email that said he had almost completed his upgrade and he sounded much more upbeat than when we spoke last weekend. Thank you ladies for all the info and the encouragement as well. It is very comforting to know that I am not alone in carrying the emotioanl baggage that goes along with being a Navy Mom.
Also...thanks for the birthday wishes for my husband . If I could figure out how to post a pic I would. He loved his surprise party. We did painting with a twist. So much fun. And he really was surprised . Our sailor called him..which was awesome.
mattsmom, thanks for updating us--it's good information for those of us whose sailors are still in the school phase and such a relief for you, I'm sure!
We had a VERY early morning trip to the airport to drop our son off--sad to see him go but excited for him to be starting Prototype! It was great to have him around again for a short time but he was missing his friends because they're all off at college. He did enjoy seeing family though and he had a fun time at a shooting range with my husband and son-in-law.
RebeccaJ, so glad the party was a success, even more so with your sailor's call! What a milestone. Sounds like everything was awesome.
momterp, goodbyes are never easy. I feel like when we see them rarely it makes the visit even more precious. Glad you had that time together.
NickSydmom, awesome pic! Just a bunch of galoots having fun.
Daylight savings time, as B'sNuke's gif shows, is a backside kicker. Why can't they leave things alone? It might just be me but I hate it. I'm 50 shades of discombobulated. Oh well, give me a few days and I'll be fine.
I'm at a conference the next few days but will watch posts. Have a great week, Sea Sisters! Hooyah!
Welcome to the group mamaquilt68! Please be sure to read the ***NEW MEMBERS*** section up above (and I've added some new info) and be sure to read the Pages (16) to the right. It's a lot of info but just take it one page at a time! And of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have ;-D
My son asked me last night to share a word of caution on here, to share with your sailors: If your sailor is out and about in their uniform, shopping or whatever, and someone approaches them in civilian clothes but says they are at NNPTC or anything associated with Navy, recommend to your sailor that they politely ask to see their military ID before carrying on further conversation.
Briefly, my son found himself in an awkward spot at the grocery store with someone who recognized him from the apartment complex and started offering help there, but slipped in a statement that suggested to my son he wasn't actually military or at NNPTC to know a certain time frame rule. My son quickly ended the conversation, but put up his warning radar and recognized potential issues in the future. It is a new situation they are in now that they may be in more civilian areas in their NWU's after work before heading home.
Jana - received your message that you sent to all Nuke moms on N4M. Glad you daughter is at GC - hopefully she won't be dealing with the humidity too much longer as the weather changes! In the future you might want to post on the comment wall so everyone is able to respond - don't be afraid to jump in and start chatting with us here!
My son is loving BS for prototype. He and three other guys got a really nice 4 bedroom home fully furnished. This place has everything TVs, bedding, towels, everything in the kitchen. I am so happy he doesn’t have to worry about all that stuff and can just focus on school.
I'm back! Good conference but glad to be home. Now to catch up!
NickSydmom, my sailor was in BS and loved it too. They would have liked to get sent back there this last time and got GC instead. The weather is perfect...all 4 seasons. Gorgeous autumn colors are just finishing.
Chipmunk, good advice. Just another example of the real world our kids are living in. They are learning to be careful who you trust.
NickSydmom - glad your son is getting settled in at BS. B loved it there and we really enjoyed visiting. Cold in the winter but you being from MI your son is probably used to it! Hopefully you'll get to make a trip or 2 there.
Another mass shooting last night - this one out here in CA. My heart is breaking and I'm just so sad today.
J's/S'smom, I agree with your comments. Testing never stops, they are always qualifying or learning new material, under more pressure than in the training pipeline.
The news about the Reagan is sad. As you said they will meet the worst and best out there in the fleet. My Nuke has always been extra cautious and I'm glad she's like that.
J's/S'smom - Haven't heard from you in a while! I did see the article on the Reagan - sad news. It just goes to show that there are good and bad people everywhere.....
Does anyone know of a restaurant that serves a traditional thanksgiving dinner in GC? Looking for a casual atmosphere that won’t break the bank. Preferably a place that takes reservations. Thanks!
She is so beautiful NickSydMom! Bravo Zulu to her!
My daughter just shared with my husband and I that she is also going to join the Navy and would like to sign up as a Hospital Corpsman. We talked to the recruiter last week and she took a practice ASVAB test there and got a really good score. She wants to get to MEPS to take the ASVAB and sign up now to see if her vision is going to be an issue, but has to talk to her dad first to see if he will sign off on her signing up early (she is 17) and joining the DEP in the meantime. She is the baby, and she doesn't turn 18 until the end of July after her senior graduation, so he may say no so he can spend time with her. She's talking to him this weekend during a visit weekend, so we'll see if she gets to enlist when she returns from her visit.
SubMom-We have enjoyed many nice meals (buffet style) at Stars Restaurant on King Street. They have excellent food, casual atmosphere, reasonable prices. I'm not sure if they have a Thanksgiving special, but I do know that they take reservations and can accommodate large groups.
