Merry Christmas folks! And Happy belated Hanukkah to our Jewish Nuke families! To be honest what I'm even more excited about is the solstice on Friday. Let's bring back the light!!!!
I'm happy to report I have boots in the house! Or rather sneakers. Either way, it's great to have him here. He's been really homesick, so I'm doubly glad to wrap my arms around him!
ProudParent, I'm sorry your nuke's spirits are low. He's obviously a very caring guy and a great friend. Congrats to him for his own accomplishments.
NukeLukesMom, Little Mr A is adorable, and what a great pic!
B'sNuke, I know this is the season of sharing, but please keep your little flu friends to yourself. ;) Hope you're on the mend soon!
Congrats to all of the sailors who passed comps. I have heard of various ones via other avenues as well.
ProudParent - I feel for your son, but also for his friend. It makes me want to buy a plane ticket or something for his family to come see him. That is really hard. My son left the end of June 2017 for BC and is already in Prototype, so ahead, but we have seen him 5 times since he left for BC, I won't complain about him not being home at Christmas (and I haven't been) after hearing this story.
PacNWmom - glad you have sneakers in the house!!
Christmas concert was great. Since we don't have family close I had sent notes to other friends and some of them managed to show up and enjoy my youngest play on his birthday!
B'sNukeMom I'm sorry to hear that you got the stomach bug! Hopefully your fluid refill is helping. I had Type A flu and was able to take Tamiflu. I went in to work Friday but really wasn't myself until Monday. Now I'm on vacation until Jan 2! Sadly its warm and rainy here We need to get some seasonal weather so we can get snow down on the hill. My skis are crying for attention
Nukette will not be home for the holiday but her ship is in the rest of the year. Her husbands sub is in. Just found out that he's ranked up. My Nukette said she got an achievement medal, for doing the thing - haha.
My oldest daughter will be home Friday with her boyfriend and my husband flies in late Friday.. Going to go from a quiet house to very busy.
B'sNuke, so sorry! Hope you are A-OK for Christmas. How's Hubby's foot?
ProudOfK, ahh the Vinson. Good ship. How great to have your sailor home for a nice long visit! Score!
bigsky21, PS Grad is really neat. It's a fitting celebration of all the hard work our sailors do. Enjoy the pomp!
ProudParent, that is hard news after working so hard. But they will get another chance and as B'sNuke has often said, it's not the end of the world if Nuke isn't someone's destiny. There are many great opportunities out there.
JayDee, sounds like you will have a full house and a long holiday. It just doesn't get better than that (except the MIA snow!)
I just wanted to address the boot camp graduation question. Almost all the sailors will fly out on Saturday. Sometimes there are exceptions and a sailor will fly on Sunday so if you can manage to stay that extra day on the off-chance you will have a whole extra day with your sailor, that's great. But most will fly on Saturday. Also they fly from both O'Hare and Midway so there's no way to know which airport. Your sailor won't even know until you get there.
Hi all - Happy Wednesday! I'm doing the Happy Dance! B & C made it to sunny SoCal yesterday! So happy to have them home for Christmas! When their plane landed they couldn't believe how nice our weather was - both had on their winter clothes which they won't be needing for the next week. It's 76 here today ;-D I'm feeling a little better but not 100% - just weak still. But I' not going to let it mess up our visit.
NancyJo - hubby had an MRI last week and tomorrow he sees' the ortho dr again for the results and to see if they can figure out why it's not getting better. Hopefully they'll know something more (and we can get some positive news).
JayDee - bummer you won't get to see your nukes but I'm glad your oldest and her BF will be home. Sounds like you'll be doing some good old face time ;-D
Congrats to all who passed comps and sorry to hear about those that didn't. Hopefully they'll roll right through the re-comp with no problems. It is unfortunate that they won't be able to go home though - especially for the holidays :(
ProudofK - woohoo - extra time with your sailor! Merry Christmas to you!!! And PacNWmom - enjoy your visit too. And don't you worry - this one I promise I won't share lol!
bigsky21 - safe travels - enjoy PS grad - BZ to your sailor!
nukelukesmom and CoTwin - love the pictures! Thanks for sharing.

I am so happy for everyone who is getting to see their sailors this holiday season. I hope those of us who do not will be able to soon. I get to see mine Christmas Day and then he graduates on 1/04. I’m sure he will head out for SC that weekend.
B’sNukesMoM I can imagine how happy your mom was. What a nice surprise.
@AZNuKeGma So happy for you all getting extra time with your sailor, especially at Christmas.
What is a comp? I’m guessing a comprehensive exam for A school?
B'sNuke - what a wonderful pic with your Mom!! Love it.
AZNukeGma - enjoy the time with your sailor and so happy that he was able to be home this year.
Congrats to all the sailors for passing the comp exam and to their families! Prayers for those that will be taking the re-comp - and for the time up until then.
I arrived in GC yesterday and met my sailor for dinner. So ecstatic to see him! PS graduation is tomorrow and it most likely will be raining.
Hope everyone is on the mend and stays healthy during Christmas time. Enjoy and cherish your time with families and I'm always keeping those that aren't with us in my heart and prayers.
Update...sailors that didn't pass PowerSchool comps can go home until December 27! I'm sure there will be some happy families and I know this will lift the sailors spirits!
KayCee that is so exciting. That is such a huge accomplishment. I'm so sorry it's raining. Hope your sailor gets to come home with you for a bit. I keep thinking one of these days we'll get to meet as you really aren't so very far away.
ProudParent that's great news! I know N was upset for the guys that didn't pass in his section so this is good to hear.
Long day tomorrow, I have to work today so planning to get on the road about 3am, should put me in GC by 7ish. KayCee, glad you got to get in early and spend time with your sailor!
Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday, and thoughts and prayers for all of our sailors whether at home or away!
Just FYI - If you are going to PS graduation and they split the sections into 2 ceremonies, be sure to go find your sailor where they tell you to meet them first and not where the crowd seems to be!! Also, if you want any memorabilia the shop only stays open until noon on Friday!! If you are in the 2nd graduation, I would go to the shop early or make sure you get there immediately after the ceremony.
Your sailor will also be needing to get their orders. Mine did that first and it made getting pictures hard and we missed buying anything at the shop, but he was probably first to get his orders!!! LOL
Mail status update my sailor's Christmas pkg should finally be arriving today!!! Only several days after it was to have gotten there and a close call for other travel plans.
Thoughts and prayers for all traveling, graduation and hopefully those who haven't been home will get a chance to visit family, with the news ProudParent shared.
That is such wonderful news that they are letting those that have to re-comp go home for the holidays! I'm sure that will make for some very happy families. And the time away hopefully will give them a chance to recharge their batteries and be ready to come back ready to re-comp!

AZNuKeGma - I love surprises! That is so great!

Merry Christmas everyone. For those of you with your sailors enjoy every moment .
My daughter's youth pastor died last week of Luekemia. He was only 58. Just a reminder of how fleeting life is and to grab onto each joy that comes along. Today is the funeral.
I'm thankful for this group. Wishing you all some wonderful family time.

Look who we found on the side of the road! We totally surprised my family with our sailor’s trip home. I was responsible for driving my folks to the rental house where my extended family is spending Christmas. After our lunch stop I told them I wanted to top off the tank at Costco before we continued on our way and I accidentally-on-purpose got lost and ended up at the Burbank airport. My mom thought I was going batty! As we passed the passenger pickup area I said “Hey, there’s a sailor!” (My son was traveling in uniform to get pre-boarding). My mom finally recognized him. Momterp that is so awesome. I was wondering if you had him home for Christmas. That is so great that it worked out.
WonderGeekWoman it only took me almost 2 years to accidentally stumble on how I could actually comment on here when I was using my phone. Honestly sometimes they don't make things very easy to figure out.
Hi all - Happy Thursday! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas ;-D
B&C are back home in MI - they left yesterday. We had a wonderful time with them here. Youngest and his GF arrived in Dublin this morning and then will head on to Salzburg, Austria for a week. House is quiet - too quiet!
This happened while B&C were here - so excited to be gaining a daughter in love!

KayCee - Thanks for pics and BZ to your sailor! I love putting faces with names!
Momterp - That is so awesome!! I love to be surprised, but surprising others, especially with family, is so special and fun!!
I finally figured out to use desktop mode on this site on my phone, so I'll probably be commenting more often...lol!!

WonderGeekWoman it only took me almost 2 years to accidentally stumble on how I could actually comment on here when I was using my phone. Honestly sometimes they don't make things very easy to figure out.

Anyone know of anything interesting to do in Great Lakes tomorrow or Christmas Day?

@julesmtu I looked at things on my maps but still have no idea what might be opened. It looked like a lot was still opened on the way in.
