B's Nuke - How exciting! Are you ready to do lots of wedding planning? Where is C's family? Are they going to be involved in the wedding planning too? 2019 will be an exciting year for you as well as B&C!! Fun stuff!
PacNWmom, sounds like you had a lot of ho-ho-ho this year. How great is that?
B'sNuke, if anybody can pull together a long-distance wedding, it is you! I'm so excited! Life after the navy can be so sweet.
Here is my nuke and his daughter, and my daughter and her ex-nuke's husband's 6 kids. My guy seems to be lacking the spirit of the holiday. But he did allow the photo after all. Do you think the ears are too much? ;D
NancyJo, those are great pictures, I LOVE the ears! Looks like you had a good Christmas.
I'm now nearing the end of my vacation. I go back to work on Wednesday. My hubby flies out the same day so I'm taking a 1/2 day vacation so we can spend time together and I can take him to the airport.
My niece was in the hospital over Christmas as the cancer is back and they're trying to get her in position for a bone marrow transplant. She did get a visit from Jennifer Lawrence on Christmas Eve day. Jennifer has put several million dollars into Kosair Childrens Hospital and always visits when she comes home for Christmas. My niece was over the moon and got a couple pictures with her and her autograph on her phone case. I'm glad that she got a few minutes of happiness in this long, painful battle.
I love all the pictures! JayDee, what a beautiful picture of your niece and that's awesome that Jennifer Lawrence contributes so much to the hospital - I'm sure that was very exciting for all the patients. I continue to pray that a bone marrow donor is found for your niece.
NancyJo - the ears are awesome! That picture is definitely a keeper. I think I'd have it printed on a pillow or something and give it to him next year for Christmas lol! And all the other grandlittles - what a beautiful bunch they are! I can't wait until I have grandlittles of my own ;-D
PacNWmom - looks like you all are having a great time! Nice that the gf's will be visiting too! And what a wonderful gift that the repairs were covered under warranty - thank you Santa!
Oh JayDee, your niece looks like she's a fighter. What a beautiful girl. I like that some famous people give back from their great good fortune. I was kind of on the edge of not liking JL but now I like her a lot better. Prayers for your niece. How long will your hubby be gone?
JayDee - Thanks for the update. I have been wondering how your niece was doing.
I love all of the pictures.
My red will be on when I get dressed. I was still in my jammies watching When Calls the Heart with my daughter. We were taking advantage of a quiet morning without any guys making remarks about our "chick flick". My son had his first night on Prototype with his new crew. At least I think. All I know is he got back to GC safe from holiday travels with his roommates family and was working nights so I just emailed. His response this morning was "very tiring, Goodnight!"
Nancy Jo, I think Jennifer has a huge heart and truly does this for the kids, not the publicity as she will not let the media know when she will be at the hospital. On the other hand I do not like her stance on several issues - we'll leave it at that.
B'sNukeMom they have found a perfect match. At first hewas only willing to do a stem cell donation but has now agreed to a full bone marrow. Shelby was supposed to get it before Christmas but while they were trying to get her blood levels high enough the cancer came back with a vengeance. It's a vicious cycle that they cannot break.
That's awesome that she has found a perfect match and even better that he is willing to do the full bone marrow. I hope they can get her levels where they need to be ASAP. Man, cancer sucks.
B'sNukeMom there's been an update since my last post. Shelby's doctor has checked her out of the hospital, treatment is not working there is nothing more they can do. The doctor has pulled in a favor from Childrens in Cincinnati and they have agreed to take her into a trial. She really doesn't qualify for it but they're letting her in hoping it might help but her markers don't match so its unlikely it will help, but maybe....
If anyone is willing to pray for her and her family it's needed now.
JayDee659, prayers offered for Shelby and her family. Cincinnati Children’s is a wonderful hospital. She is good hands there and with God! May the Lord use the doctors and this trial to bring healing to Shelby! Take care, Sea Sister.
Oh JayDee I am sorry to hear this. Definitely sending up prayers that the new trial will help. Please let your niece know that she has lots of Navy moms praying for her!
Happy New Year everyone!! - My sailor called this morning after he came off watch at Prototype. He had yet to see his voice message with our New Year's shout out to him. I wasn't sure if he had to work or not since he is on crew now, but he said yes. He then shared that the extent of their New Year's celebration was a count down to something they were doing in training at midnight!! I had to laugh. I am sure those in charge try to make the best of the work situation.
I asked my son if he was going to get another day off for New Year's or paid for it, and he wasn't sure, but he reminded me that now that he was on crew, he had to work no matter what government holidays there might be. A big difference from where my husband works and all of the military and government employees are off! Just a good reality check for me to remember what all he has signed up for.
Back to work and catching up on posts. So sorry to hear your news, JayDee. Prayers going up!
My sailor had a long Christmas break for some mysterious reason. I believe he goes back tomorrow. So nice to spend the time with his kids while they're out of school.
I hope everyone had a safe and blessed holiday. Now on to the new year!
I have to drive my sailor back to the airport later today and a really nice visit. He will be classing up for PS shortly. When does saying goodbye get easier? I just keep telling myself that he is headed off to work... and am already hunting down airfare for a trip in March. Argh!
JayDee. ..I have been praying for your neice and family.
The Hammer. ..I don't think it ever gets easier. My sailor is here until Sunday and has a very tough year ahead. I'm trying to.stay in the moment but it's hard.
Hi all - Happy Wednesday! It's back to work today for me. Sure have enjoyed some time off (and could have used some more lol!). We are in wedding planning mode now - interesting doing this all long distance....they want to keep it simple (fine with me) but there's just so much to figure out! Once we get the venue figured out things will be much easier!
I've seen so many pictures on FB today in the Nuke moms group where sailors are returning to GC (or their duty station). Lots of hugs and tears as "see ya laters" are said.
And Rebecca J - you are right - it doesn't get easier, you just get stronger!
My youngest and his GF are wrapping up their Austria trip. Today they were back in Dublin and they fly home tomorrow. It's been so much fun seeing all their pictures on FB - they've had quite the adventure ;-D
My hubby is still off work from his ankle injury from the fall from the ladder - it's been 5 months and the dr has him off until the end of this month. They are trying to get him referred to a specialist at Loma Linda. I hope the insurance approves it.....the darn thing just isn't healing :( (Well you know, he is atthat age!)
JayDee - continuing to say a prayer for your niece - please keep us updated on how things are going with the new trial.
NancyJo - glad your son had some extra time off over the holidays. I"m sure no one was complaining there lol!
B'sNukeMom - I'm so sorry to hear your husband is still dealing with that ankle injury. It was right after he hurt it that I met you both. Never imagined at the time that it would be something that would plague him for so long. Sure hope the end of the issues with it are in sight.
ARenee - If you are asking when A school starts after the holiday standdown, I am not sure. Probably in the next day or so. As for Nuke A school in general, there is a continuous rotation of classes starting each Monday after BC PIR as I gathered when my son started. Depending on the Nuke rating and how many sailors there are ready to make a class of MM, EM or ET, some will start A school the Monday after they arrive at BC. Others will be INDOC until there are enough sailors from BC to make a class. My son was INDOC for almost 1 month before he "classed" up. My discussion above - Nuke A school daily schedule - sailor's perspective, has a lot of information in it, that I wrote with my son's help when he was in A school Oct 2017.
The "see ya laters" never get easier to which I can testify after 8 1/2 yrs. Now he has a family which just makes it worse. <sigh> But B'sNuke is right, you get stronger. I find I am less "Niagara Falls and more "Rainy Drizzle" when I say goodbye.
B'sNuke, I bet you are worried sick about hubby's foot. That is just crazy. Prayers for that too. Lots to pray for around here but that's one of the many great things about this group. We do what we can for each other. Positive thoughts!
Yes, the ankle thing is weird - just won't heal and still gives him problems with swelling (and some pain). Hopefully he can see this other specialist and they can get to the bottom of it!
My BIL took some family pictures for us at Christmas - just wanted to share (because well, they are awesome!):
This is hubby's side of the family - it was nice because all the kids & grandkids were able to make it (lucky if it happens every other year!)
B'sNuke, those are awesome pics! What nice photos. I love how in the big family pic the front row is holding hands. So heartwarming. You are blessed indeed. <3<3<3
Have they discussed rebreaking the ankle and aligning it surgically ?
Shelby update, she has been accepted into the trial but when the doctors were asked if this could save her life, they said no. The trial won't hurt her but they don't forsee it helping either. The cancer in her bone marrow has moved up to 7% from 1%.
Ah JayDee - I'm sorry the news is not better for Shelby. This just breaks my heart to see this young lady going through this. I will continue to pray for a miracle for her.....
Hubby never actually broke his ankle - just severely torn tendons. They said he would have been better off breaking it. I guess then they could have gone in and repaired something. Of course this seems so minor compared to what Shelby is going through :(
JayDee sending hugs to you and your family! I hope you will find comfort during this season.
On a kind of cheery note I just watched my son's plane fly over on his way to Pearl! I waved. Hope he saw me. (I assumed it was his plane as I'm tracking it now.)
Amazing what you can do with technology. Perhaps an sign for your family that new things are happening every day.
CSW - that's pretty cool that you were able to track his flight. I wish I would have known about this sooner. I could have tracked youngest today as he returns from Austria!

I got an early Christmas present last week when my car needed $3500 worth of work, and found out it was ALL covered under warranty! Thank you, Santa!!
Here's a pic from Christmas Eve. I'm on the left, my nuke in the middle and my older kiddo on the right.
