I just posted a link in WEBCAM, .... discussion to one of the most comprehensive lists of Free Educational Websites that I have ever seen. How I wish I had this years ago. If you don't need it, feel free to share it with someone who might be trying to do school at home for the first time.
MoMom - I sent you a PM - been thinking about you!!
KayCee - I don't think I replied to your post about your hike in the WA mountains - how refreshing!! - Oh to have some hills and trees and opportunity for such again, even my Ozark hills - Here, close by it is mostly flat, and concrete or asphalt, but going out for a walk shortly anyway.
NNLori - Hugs and prayers for your son and the other sailors on his ship.
I love the all the pictures of pets and nature. So very pretty .My husband and I have been home for a week now. I am working remotely and he is off through the end of April. I think he has officially hit the “I’m bored” stage as he is cleaning and organizing the basement! I’m enjoying the peace and quiet for the moment. Hoping the high winds and dropping temps will be short lived so we can get outside for our routine walks. Praying for safety, good health and sanity for all.
My dad had to be transported via life flight from Prosser, WA back to Seattle (UofW) on Sunday. He had the valve replacement last week and I talked to him on Saturday and he just didn't sound good and was in a lot of pain. Well he passed out on Sunday, hit his head. They took him to the local hospital and then sent him to Seattle. Earlier today they went back in and put in a pacemaker. I spoke with him before the procedure and he sounded much better than Saturday. Now I'm waiting for him to come out of recovery so I can talk to him again. He really didn't want to have to go back to Seattle since it is a hotbed for COVID right now but he had no choice. They tested him for the virus before the procedure and he was negative so that's a good thing! He should be able to head back home again tomorrow - he just wants away from Seattle. Please say a little prayer for him that this time everything is ok.......
I never left my house this weekend. Got a lot of yard work done - weather was nice. Sat outside on the patio - watched a movie, facetimed with B&C. Overall pretty relaxing weekend.
I hope everyone is adjusting to this new normal.....be safe.
My A school sailor was supposed to call on Sunday and never did. I am sure he is fine but today I found myself on edge. I even got teary listening to the various corporate officers talk about what they are doing during the speak a little while ago. Hearing the news that there is a case at RTC and is a recruit prior to the new 2 week confident before classes did not help.
I just keep reminding myself this is good practice for once he is at sea and he hopes under it on a boat.
I have been posting pics for my travels elsewhere. Mostly animals at this point. I feel kind of add here but maybe it would brighten the day. Thoughts?
@ New Adventures: I understand the mom's worry-gene because I have one too. When my son was in GC we had the best luck communicating via text. That way they can send a quick message when they have a moment. Maybe that will work with your son too?
@B'sNukeMoM: sorry to hear about your dad but glad that he got the procedure he needed. Hopefully they have good infection control processes in place there and he will stay covid-free! Sending healing thoughts!
B'sNukeMom my dad had a pacemaker put in last summer, it was very scary but now it's like he is a new man, alot more energy. Saying prayers for a safe and quick recovery.
New adventure: got a call from my son Sunday, things are fine. He is enjoying making new friends. Spare time they are playing volleyball and other sports, had a cookout. They are safe and bonding. Working hard too, studying and becoming more responsible. What more could a Mom want, sure you son is doing the same. God Bless
B'sNuke Mom - sorry to hear about your father, but glad he received help and then had the pacemaker put in. Prayers for all of you.
New Adventures - even at NNPTC - "No News is Good News" that doesn't make it easier.
So, I am not as concerned about my sailor on his ship currently as I am when they get back into port. They went out to see before all of this started and I honestly don't know if he will have all the new "lock-down" information. He has friends that he normally stays at when not on the ship so I normally mail things there. I have to get his car tag to him but there is logistics with that as well. I found out that the care package I mailed may take 2-3 weeks to actually arise, so I may just send them to my friends and tell him to take his care package on the ship for himself. My concerns are very minor though compared to families who have sailors confined on ships with COVID-19 - You all are very much in my thoughts and prayers.
The Hammer, just talked to my son last night...he’s also in Bremerton, told me his sister sub had gone to 48 hr shifts but his boat is unable to do so since they’ve already taken the galley out. Too hard to carry on 2 days worth of food.....knowing how much food my son can eat that is understandable lol! Otherwise he sounded good, sounds like he and his roommate are being smart and doing what they can to stay safe and healthy. Hoping we ALL stay safe and healthy. One day at a time.
The Hammer, I have been a stay at home mom for years and only wear some make up on Sundays or for special events. My sailor at least always liked the way I looked "all natural" and would often comment about his sisters wearing too much make up. (They are always in good taste.) I never told him that I was just lazy and didn't want to take the time to put it on!! Besides, I was always taking care of one of them.
Everyone have a wonderful day today! Rejoice in all things, and think on that which is lovely, pure and holy!! (Philippians 4). I could "preach myself happy" as one of my former Bible teachers would comment, reading this chapter or the entire book. I am off to put together links to online virtual art museum tours for some of my friends and their children. May you find something to rejoice in and find rest and peace today.
B'sNuke, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad but it sounds like he's doing OK with the pacemaker. I bet you wanted to be there but couldn't. Hang in there, Sea Sister. Sounds like he's getting really good care.
My niece is a nurse practitioner at a hospital in WY and we thought she had COVID. Fever lasting longer than a week and sore throat. But tested negative so that was averted. This is a scary tine.
Watched the Comfort enter NY harbor. So proud of our navy. Prayers for all.
I just got off the phone with my dad - he had a great night and is feeling so much better. Waiting for the dr to come in and release him so he can get back home. Thank you all for the prayers for him.....my dad is one tough cookie and this is frustrating him to be down like this....I'm just so thankful that he is feeling better.
San Diego Zoo has a link to their butterfly webcam - I posted it up above.
Last night my youngest decided he needed a haircut so his GF attempted to cut his hair. This was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time - the haircut didn't come out so well lol. Good thing is no one will see it! We all got a much needed laugh out of it.
NancyJo - I'm so glad your niece wasn't infected....that's got to be a relief.
The Mercy on the West Coast and the Comfort on the East Coast - definitely proud of our Navy!
Keep practicing your social distancing and stay safe everyone!
B's Nuke Mom: Thinking of you and your dad/family--holding you close with good wishes for an amazing recovery.
Practicing gratitude today for this: my son passed his A-School comps yesterday, has a short term "job" during the hold period, and is super excited to start Power School. We had a family Face Time session--he, his brothers and myself--the night before his comps and it was so wonderful to see him so excited and so very happy. I was supposed to leave tomorrow to attend his graduation, but (of course!) that can not happen now. I am sad, but feel so blessed regardless.
My thoughts, prayers, and hopes stay with all of you as we navigate these uncertain waters. Love to you all! Be well!
question for the veteran moms: Last night Big Kid called and asked for a few things in his next care package. One of the items I can only find on Amazon. Can I order it and have it sent directly to him? I'm thinking that will be faster than having it shipped to me to repackage and send to him. He said that they will likely break the record for number of days without a port call.
B'sNukeMom: glad to hear that your dad is doing well.
ShipOfDoodles - Congratulations to your son and NMH to you!!
3B'smom - I would not consider my thoughts on mailing a package to be coming from someone with experience. I am still waiting to see if my sailor received his care pkg I mailed him. But I would say that if you have an address to mail to your son, then by all means ship it straight from Amazon. I read an article today that they have workers striking so I would say the less amount of time something has to be in transit the better, no matter where the to/from is.
B'sNukeMom - so glad you had a good phone visit with your dad. My daughter gave her boyfriend a haircut as well! Thanks for the butterfly link, I will send it to my daughter. I have been "wasting" time figuring out how to 360' on Google maps of art museums and places I visited when I was abroad for a tour after my senior year in HS.
ShipOfDoodles - congrats to your Nuke, and you!! :)
B'sNukeMom - glad to hear that your dad is doing better and will hopefully come home soon - what a relief!
My Nuke is still progressing with his A school classes and we are hoping that they won't be cancelled, so that he can continue on his current trajectory and graduate A school in mid-August. He told us that several of the housing buildings on his side of NNPTC have had their internet/WiFi go down this week, and the cell service is not great in some of the areas, so that may also be why some sailors are not calling/texting as much this week.
ShipOfDoodles2: l've been working and just read everyone's text. Congratulations to you and your Sailor, you must be bursting with pride.
Time must be getting shorter the devil seems to be working overtime trying to destroy us and our relationship with our Creator. Keep the Faith, God Bless and keep you all and our Sailors safe.
I had some unexpected midday communication from my sailor, which is always sweet. His ship's FB page keeps us pretty up to date with pictures of what is going on and I saw some large crates of pineapples that had been delivered, so I asked him about them. He replied, "as always mom you know more about what is going on in the pipeline than I do, but we had those pineapple yesterday and they sure were good!!"
He also said he is now Throttle Man qualified, so all he has left is Reactor Operator and Shutdown Reactor Operator (I believe that is correct) so that he is senior qualified. He was super happy!
B’sNukeMoM - so glad your dad is feeling better. My father in law had a pacemaker put in a year ago and it’s a difference of night and day! Praying your dad gets to come home soon! NMH
ShipofDoodles, SuzyPWarrior, and Chipmunk, sailors moving along! Hooyah!
B'sNuke, so happy for your dad! What a relief! I bet N's haircut was a hoot! We're all feeling the lack of our salon/barbershop and it's not pretty, at least on my end. Vanity takes a hit but nipping COVID in the bud is the bigger goal so there you go.
Heard the captain of the Roosevelt appealing for help. I guess the good news is that the sailors are healthy, robust young men.
Our hospital ships are making me so proud. Navy strong!
Hi all - Happy Wednesday and oh look, it's April Fools Day! Was really hoping to wake up and find out this was all some weird April Fools joke that we could now end.....but no such luck :( Our news is saying the next 2 weeks in CA are going to be the worst of it with a drastic increase in cases reported. Continuing to social distance and doing our best to follow recommended protocols. I know we can get through this!
NancyJo - I also saw the request for help on the TR. B has a number of friends on the ship that he is still in contact with. It's definitely a scary situation with them all in such close quarters....praying for all of our sailors.
My niece and nephew have a band - 5J Barrow. They did a live concert via FB/IG last night from their apartment. It was fun to watch. They will be doing it every Tuesday night for a while. They are based out of Asheville, NC (formerly in NY). Here's the link to their band - and I'll post it up above too.
B'sNukeMom - We have at least one sailor from this group on the Roosevelt, not sure if any more and one of my friends on BC Mom - After reading an article last night and the captain commenting about them not being a cruise ship, my MamaBear rose up in me and I sent a message to the one US Senator that will hopefully at least pay attention. Too bad I didn't know about it during the Town Home Telephone call my son was on with him yesterday. Anyway, not sure why our Navy medical ships weren't sent to the aid of our sailors first, or a couple of cruise ships, that no one wants to be on, couldn't be sent to their aid. - Not much but this "mama friend" had to reach out someway, somehow. - I can't do anything else except pray and send cyber hugs!!
There are several bands that are reaching out and playing their music. It is good!!
Okay, just found out that my other senator is the head of the Arms Service Committee ?? and so I called and left a message on their voicemail. They are all working off site, as well. I did speak to the secretary in my other US Senator's office. At least, I made an effort, best I can do at the moment. Now it is time to get to the grocery store.
Good afternoon! Thank you, all of you, for your congratulations for those who passed comps for A-School on Monday--and for the on-going generosity of spirit when so many are facing such tough times. My heart is in my throat for those on the Roosevelt, so please keep us informed.
I am lucky to still be working from home--busy getting figures together for our business which was forced close by the pandemic. Grateful for the CARES Act and the Paycheck Protection Program--hoping we will be lucky enough to qualify so we can continue to keep our (very valuable) employees on through this crisis. I received word this morning that my eldest and his fiancee will be joining us the weekend of the 10th--indefinitely! That will make three millennials, one stolenial (stone age) adults, four dogs (two of them puppies), and one Bob the Cat in my 1700 square foot house. All four of us will be working from home too, LOL!
I remain grateful for so many things each and every day--especially the text from my sailor yesterday sharing news of his ironing session with a friend as they prepared for inspection this morning. He is bursting with enthusiasm and pride--as of Friday he will have a new classification, has qualified for T-track watch (whatever that might mean), and gets 10 days of liberty which I know he intends to spend part of on XBox. Little pleasures can mean so much.
SuzyPWarrior--I don't know how many graduations there are from A-School Friday, but I wonder if our sailors might have been in the same class. I am still filled with sadness I could not share this special time with him in person, but I am filled with immeasurable joy at his happiness.
ShipOfDoodles - that's what I've been working on at work today - completing the application for the Paycheck Protection Program. I've almost got it done - hoping to get it to our banker tomorrow. We've got about 100 employees that we are trying to keep (safely) employed. I feel as though I'm running in circles with some of this stuff though!
ShipOfDoodles - Your sailor finished all of his UIs (Under Instructions), it is a series of watches that they have to qualify to stand, once they complete A school. It is how they keep NNPTC running, they use the sailors T-Track time to keep eyes on the site.
It is imperative that all sailors get their UIs done about a week or two before A school comps - as I recall from what my sailor told me. So, any sailor that comes to GC and is put in INDOC for several weeks, it behooves them to get their UIs accomplished before they are trying to coordinate times and stand training watches as well as studying their school work, PT, 5K run, etc. I believe there were 10 - 13 UIs. I discuss it in my A school daily schedule discussion above.
Chipmunk - I'm so happy to hear that they are getting help for the Roosevent! When I was in GC in December for prototype grad, we picked up a sailor and gave him a ride. He was being flown to the Roosevent after graduation. I think about this sweet, funny kid and then about all of these young, brave sailors and pray for their health and bravery.
The Hammer - Yes, this is good news. All I have is from the news article Anti M shared on BC Mom. Things start hitting closer to home when you have a sailor on a ship or sub. Even though mine is only doing Underways, they are still out to sea. The reality of our Nukes staying with the ship hit me for the first time.
Good morning - thought I would do a quick check-in.
B'sNuke - how is your Dad doing?
I haven't heard from my sailor in awhile. His boat is usually stationed in Bremerton, (bigsky21 and The Hammer have sailors there too?) His boat is gone for quite awhile so my mind is all over the place with thoughts. I am not certain he ever added me to the Ombudsman contact list, so it makes it that much more difficult knowing I don't have that resource for info either.
Life here in WA state for me is a little chaotic at the moment. I am still going into the hospital for our few outpatient biopsies and acute symptomatic patients. I am still doing my administrative/supervisor work as well as patient care for now. We have furloughed/low censused about 2/3 of staff here. It is a little stressful...
Thinking of everyone and our sailors! Praying for health, safety, comfort and peace
Thinking about our sailors on the TR. Reading between the lines, it seems our Nukes will still be onboard keeping the reactors safe and running. Prayers for all of them and their families worrying from afar!
My daughter said they are starting to collect a list of volunteers to go to Guam and stand watches on the TR to help the short staffed crew. Of course there are more than reactor watches to be staffed and with her ship in the yard, there is probably a lot of folks without a lot to do. Not the case in reactor, but elsewhere I'm sure. It's nice that they're looking at getting folks in to help the TR out with the simple day to day things.
JayDee659 - I am wondering, and you may not know, but would the volunteers be going in after they are able to completely disinfect the ship, or would they be having to go in and be vulnerable as well? Just a thought that crossed my mind. I did also wonder though, if they would be able to bring other sailors in to help lighten the load?
Momterp - that is my assumption.
KayCee - hopefully you can get another hike in the woods this weekend. Those mountains help a lot to relax, breath in and let out! Did you ever figure out who your sailor's ombudsmen was? If so, PM me and I will see if I can help.
SECNAV announced that the Commanding Officer of the TR was relieved of his duties today. I'm not trying to stir anything up, just posting his statement as to why:
Please be sure to read the ***NEW MEMBERS*** info at the top of the page. Lots of good info there. Also take a look at the Pages (19) to the right under the member profiles - be sure to hit "view all". And of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have.
I found out this morning that my oldest kiddo (not my sailor) has been exposed to COVID-19. They are considered an essential worker, working in a hospital (tho not a doctor or nurse, so not with the sickest folks). They got a phone call last night from occupational health at the hospital saying they've been exposed and to come in for a test. Won't know the results for a few days. These will be anxious days for me and my family, that's for sure!!
PacNWmom, I,too, am an essential hospital worker. I know I have definitely been exposed once and have been unofficially exposed on more than one occasion. I am over 60 and have followed all best practices (even before this pandemic) so maybe, if I get this virus, I will come through it. My Nuc son, in SC, has no way to not be exposed, so I am worrying more about him than me.
With regard to the relieving of the CO of the TR: you cannot release this to the public as he did and he certainly knows that. The agony he is causing the families of these sailors is immeasurable.
I am glad that I read the link you posted B'sNukeMom - It has been a long day so won't say much. I have seen things from one side of the story, even with my husband stating to me, even before it was official - the CO of the Roosevelt will likely be released, because that is not the way to do things. It is not military professionalism (his words, just now.). I very much appreciated SECNAV's statement. Thanks again for posting.

JayDee659 - LOL!!!
SuzyPWarrior - BZ to your sailor as well.
NewAdventures, thanks for the update on NNPTC.

Stay well, everyone!!

Saw a link on BC Moms that the USS Roosevelt is getting aid!! So thankful, but not as much as I know the families of sailors on the ship are thankful!

KayCee

Yes, it's great news that they are getting sailors off the TR. I pray that those that tested positive are able to make a full recovery.

Chipmunk I have no idea . Just something my daughter mentioned to me during our chat . She can't because of her pets so I didn't press for info.
