Northwoodsmom - cute snowman and yes, love the mask!

ProudOfK - gotta keep a sense of humor about this or I for one will go crazy.  Thanks for the chuckle!

  • Chipmunk

Northwoodsmom - I am so glad you shared your snowman picture here!! I should be out walking more, but our weather keeps going back and forth between almost 90' last week in my car and then down to freezing with snow/sleet today. This is my spring picture. Our little robin momma returned! You will have to enlarge, when I zoomed she flew away.

She is hiding up under the eaves. Last year we did not have a sitting nest - but we have for about 2-3 years prior. We leave it alone and let them do as they wish. "His eye is on the sparrow - or robin."

  • Northwoodsmom

SuzyPWarrior of course you can share it. I made it to bring smiles in these trying times.

    Good morning everyone!!

For those of you with sailors at NNPTC - here is a question to ask them. Find out when they have PT and when they do their 5K run? Or if they are even doing them, although they should be. The different rates / classes have different schedules. When my sailor was in, ETs and EMs had PT 2x/wk. The 5 K was either in the morning or the afternoon depending on the weather.

Ask them also if they know about the alligator!

I oftentimes could text my sailor on the days he had PT and ask him if he could call me (especially when I had questions that needed answers). His routine made it such that we could get in 5 - 10 min on the phone maybe. I was home so that helped with the timing but just a suggestion for connecting with your sailor during the week. Texting also left it open so he could call me if it worked out instead of me interrupting him with a phone call or leaving a voicemail that was harder for him to deal with.

Sunshine here, so off to work on a project in natural daylight!! Yeah!!

    Hi all - Happy Wednesday - it's a new day!  Let's make it a good one ;-D

  • Johanna

Crisp and cool in Norfolk, VA.  Looking forward to a long, peaceful walk this afternoon :)))

  • jes12joy

Hi Johanna, we are in New Kent, VA so basically neighbors. Weather here is the same crisp and cool which is my favorite.

Spoke to my sailor yesterday who told me the command is making masks for everyone at the training command and they will all be using them once they are handed out. Of course I had just sent him 7 black cloth masks so he would only have to wash them once a week. Go figure. He is asking his chain of command if he will still be allowed to wear the black ones I sent after they are issued the ones they are making there. Will let you all know when I find out.

Hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy.
  • Chipmunk

Johanna, jes12joy, thesuperm72 - Thanks for sharing today!!

  • Chipmunk

Good Morning everyone!! The sun is shining bright here today which makes me happy and the taxes are done!!  Yeah!!

Have a wonderful day! It will be interesting to find out about the masks at NNPTC. My sailor's box arrived but with work rotations it will be a bit before he can pick it up.

    Hi all - Happy Thursday!

Today is the day that youngest son's GF is to graduate with her Master's Degree.  Of course the ceremony is cancelled. We are going to surprise her with a drive by this afternoon (keeping in our car of course!).  So please join me in wishing K a great big congratulations and job well done!

  • 3B'smom

Congrats to K! An awesome accomplishment anytime, but even more so under the current circumstances. Please convey N4M well wishes!

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

Congratulations K! I'm sure the celebration when it happens will be awesome, made more so by the anticipation of it. Give her some hoots from the car on behalf of us navy moms!

Well, crazy spring weather is happening in NE, with snow expected today. But the weekend will be beautiful, if you can believe anything they say.

My sailor does not like wearing a mask all the time but oh well. Who does? Be safe, everybody!

  • Northwoodsmom

Congratulations K, and it is so awesome the way you are going to celebrate her accomplishment. I am sure it is going to mean alot to her and she will remember this day because those who are important to her made it a point to honor her. Have fun!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

She told us she was going to put her cap and gown on and where it around her house ALL DAY today lol!

  • momterp

    B’sNukeMoM,

Congratulations to K! I love that she’s going to wear her cap and gown—well-deserved! And your drive-by celebration will mean a lot, I’m sure!

  • Tulip

Congrats to K! What a great way to celebrate given current status.

Our daughter graduates in May with her doctorate. We’ve decided to have an outdoor celebration when all this is over. Unfortunately we are 4 hours away so can’t do the drive by. She plans to order her cap, gown and hood. Then ask her undergrad prof to hood her (he encouraged her to get her PsyD and lives in the same city where she is now).
  • Chipmunk

B'sNukeMom - add an extra horn toot from me as well! Congratulations to K!!

Tulip - Congratulations to your daughter as well!!

I agree they should celebrate with as much pomp and circumstance as they are able to.

  • Marianne

Congratulations to our graduates! Whoop! Whoop!

The weather in western PA is windy and cold, with some flurries from time to time. I'm still working on clearing the downed trees from last week's storm and this wind isn't helping. But I'm truly thankful that I can do this work. My sailor was such a big help with the yard work. He is missed in so many ways!

    Hang in there, ya'll!

  • Islandgirl

Well, in my case, Aloha means goodbye. F was just informed that she would not be taking her Comp test on Monday, rather she will go to DTP for separation from the Navy. I’m heartbroken. It seems that a series of lies and rumors followed her from her last class, even though she improved all of her test scores and inspection, the commander did not take her side. Devastating...we spent the last 5 years working hard to get here, and now it’s over, just like that. I feel like I got kicked in the stomach. Probably will exit this group to focus my attention somewhere less painful. Thanks to you all for supporting each other through good times and bad. Warmest wishes always, Islandgirl

  • Northwoodsmom

Islandgirl, I am so sorry. I know my words are of little comfort right now but be assured that God has a different path for your daughter. Sometimes the things we want and the things that are best for us are different. Hardships get us ready for bigger and better things. Please know you both are in my prayers and I will miss you. God Bless you both.

  • Chipmunk

Islandgirl - I am so sorry!!! I saw your comment and I just sent you a reply!! I am crushed!! I know how hard your daughter was working.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Oh Islandgirl - I am so very sorry to hear this :(

She will get through this and come out stronger for it.  Hang in there - we are here for you.

    Happy Friday all!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Tulip - congrats to your daughter on her Doctorate!  That is quite the accomplishment.

K really appreciated us coming by - she cried when she opened the door and it was heartbreaking that we couldn't give her a hug :(  But we made the best of it!

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

islandgirl, I'm so sorry! Devastating for sure. Hang in there, there is a life after the navy. We're here for you if need us.

    B'sNuke, love the photos!

  • Velvetenor

Islandgirl - so very sorry to hear this news. I agree with what others have posted and that all things happen for a reason. She will find her place and be a stronger person for it! *Hugs*

B'sNukeMoM and Tulip - congratulations to your graduates!! How exciting!! :)

  • Chipmunk

    B'sNukeMom - I enjoyed the pictures!

Islandgirl - don't hesitate to reach out to us!

  • Marianne

    Good Morning Everyone!

Chipmunk - On Wednesday, you asked about the 5K and PT.

My sailor, an EM, told me that he ran the 5K this past Thursday. And PT is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

He didn't know about the alligator. What's that all about? Back in the day, at college, I was put in charge of taking care of the swans on campus. Part of my responsibility was to keep track of their numbers. If one (or more) didn't show up for meal time, I was told more than likely the campus alligator got them. Is it something like that?!?

  • JayDee659

Mzrianne there is an alligator in the pond at Goose Creek.  His name is Charlie. The kids see him frequently, I saw him once. My daughter gave me a stuffed Charlie and a Charlie t-shirt one year for Christmas. All these items and more are available at the mini NEX. Happy hunting.

  • Chipmunk

Hi Marianne  - Wow, I wonder if they are only doing 5K every so often but doing PT 3x/ wk instead of 2x/wk?  There seemed to be an inside joke about the EMs & ETs having to have PT more often than the MMs. :-)

As far as the alligator, one of the other veteran moms mentioned it when my son was at GC. My son never saw the alligator but one of his friends did, I think. There is a small pond area near where they ran for the 5K, I think, and they hang out there.

The sailors also have to prepare for their "Dash for Cash" run, which is the PRT - Physical Readiness Test, that I believe they have to pass either in A school or PS before they can get their advancement bonus money - I may be mistaken on the details it has been a bit, but they will be expected to keep up and maintain throughout their studying. Once they get to the fleet, it can be even harder for them to keep up their runs and such, so the self-discipline and team work that is also being instilled in them is important.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

We saw Charlie back in 2013!  We were there for A school grad and he was lounging by the pond.  I wanted to take a picture and B yelled at me that it wasn't allowed lol!

I hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday.  I gave one of the dogs a bath - woohoo!

  • Chipmunk

Islandgirl - I sent you a PM - check your Inbox.

  • SubMom

I had so much catching up to do- I didn’t realize I hadn’t been on the last two weeks. So thankful for those that have tested negative, praises for those that are healing and continued prayers of comfort for those that have lost loved ones. I also want to say congratulations to”K” and all the other graduates! To those who’s kids are re-rating / separating from the Navy please don’t lose faith. Your kids have an amazing future ahead of them!! To all my sea-sisters thank you for everything. The support in this site is amazing!

Chipmunk, I always remember that as I have 3 very good friends with birthdays on 4/19.  It's also the anniversary of the horrible end to the siege at the Branch Davidian complex in Waco.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Wow, I can't believe it's been 25 years.....

B'sNukeMom - Thanks for the OPSEC reminder. I like that this shows some examples of Do's and Do Not's.

I hope everyone is having a great day!  I will be participating in my first Zoom meeting tonight for a book club I am part of. We shall see how it goes!

  • SubMom

Not Nuke related just a giggle for the day: I took my hair clip out last night and my husband couldn't hide the shock on his face. Probably had something to do with me looking like Animal from the muppets! Good thing love is blind :) Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone!

  • Chipmunk

LOL! SubMom - Thanks for the giggle!

Have a great day everyone!! My youngest son was so hopeful to see the meteor shower last night but we had rain and clouds all night. I don't know if my sailor managed to see it or not.  Did anyone else get to see it?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Happy Wednesday!

Chipmunk - I didn't see the meteor shower either....

SubMom - lol!  Yes, my hair leaves something to be desired right now.  I finally broke down and bought a box of color online.  It hasn't shown up yet....and then on Monday I got a text from my hairdresser that said she was putting together "root touch up packets" with everything needed and could do a curbside drop - so she dropped it yesterday at my house.  Gonna attempt to do my roots this weekend.  Still doesn't solve my problem of needing a cut but at least the color will (hopefully) look better!

Our weather is warming up here in SoCal.  Supposed to be in the 90's this weekend.  A pool weekend for sure!

  • JayDee659

My hair stylist is in Florida, thinking I was still down there, she offered to run by and give me a quick trim but I wa already back home.  I'm hoping that she opens her shop before I have to go back to the office.  My hair is growing back in from a pixie cut so I have a good start on a mullet.  Thank goodness I only have a few stray greys so color isn't a worry with me.

  • Marianne

Good morning! I didn't see the meteor shower either. Oops! And I love that sort of thing! The weather in western PA is freezing! Literally! Hopefully that's the last of it.

According to my sailor, they ran about 3 miles yesterday. I think I need to take up running (or something) because I'm gaining weight due to inactivity. Ugh

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Marianne - I have a recumbent exercise bike that I use.  We had gotten it for my mom to use but she never did so she gave it back to me.  I ride it every night for 45 minutes - it works out well and I'm able to get a lot of reading done!  I've never been a runner although both my boys were.....

JayDee - I have so much gray it's not even funny.  It's actually quite white - just like my moms lol!  But I'm not ready for my head to be totally white YET!

  • CSW

Well my fitness suggestion is Yoga with Adrienne on You TUBE. She has a program for almost any part of you that is hurting and a regular program for general fitness. These run from 10 minutes to a full hour. EVERY SINGLE one that I have watched has been great and I'm a rookie!

  • NNLori

Hey everyone!! Congratulations to the graduates!! It's hard not being able to have an actual graduation! I feel for them. I love how people are finding "out of the box" ways of celebrating!! That is awesome!

Oh lordy the hair!!! AHHHHHHH, I have been coloring my hair myself because I am too cheap to spend the money at a salon but oh lord do I need a haircut! I have curly hair and lots of layers so there is no way to a fudge a haircut here. I still go to work a couple days a week in a doctors office so I'm riding the struggle bus trying to look presentable!! Yikes!! So I understand ladies. The struggle is real!!! LOL!

So my son is on the TR, for those of you who don't know, he is one of the ones still on the ship standing watch on the reactor. He should be getting off soon to go into quarantine. He is looking forward to the down time. He feels good, just tired from not having any days off and his schedule changing daily. This too shall pass. It will be a memory for sure.

Interesting note, at dinner my Dad who was in the Navy in the 50's relayed his memory of dealing with the Asian Flu 1957-1958. He remembers being so sick he couldn't get out of his rack for 3 days. When he woke up there was a stale sandwich next to his face. Apparently one of his shipmates was worried about him and brought him some food. So sweet. Apparently this is not the first time we have had to deal with a pandemic. Just something I didn't know about until now.

Have a great Wednesday everyone!! :))

  • ProudOfK

Well I keep my hair long and have never colored it so no worries there for me. Our Shih Tzu dog on the other hand is another story. He is now almost 2 weeks overdue for his grooming and oh my is he looking shaggy. I’m a bit nervous about trying to cut it myself.
