DsMom2020 - Have you contacted the ombudsman for NNPTC? They might know. I was never on a FB account even when my sailor was at NNPTC so I am not sure. Hopefully someone that has gone through things recently knows, I was fortunate to be able to attend my sailors graduations and at that time, I don't think they taped them.

As for a place - are you asking if there is someone that does professional pictures, or just a place to take a picture. NNPTC is surrounded by trees so you might see if one of his shipmates could take a picture of him near a nice wooded portion there. All of my pictures were taken inside against plain walls so nothing fancy.

    Happy Mother's Day Everyone!!

Some flowers from my yard I thought I would share.

  • Chipmunk

D'sMom2020 - Here is the NNPTC - Ombudsman info link I had meant to send it last night but it was getting late on my side of the country!

  • DsMom2020

Thank you Chipmunk! I reached out to the ombudsman. As suspected, families cannot attend graduation in person (still hoping he’ll get a post graduation visit approved tho). But they do live stream it every Friday at 9:00 am and it stays up on the Facebook page. Here is the link: https://m.facebook.com/navalnuclearpowertrainingcommand/

I also asked the ombudsman if there are any photo studios specializing in military photos (son thought their might be) - there are none recommended but several photo studios nearby. I want a nice portrait but for now, a photo taken with his iPhone standing in front of a tree or in front of the NNPTC will have to do. Thank you for the suggestion.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you proud navy moms!

Happy Tuesday Everyone!! How are we doing?

Thinking about all of my friends on here. We have a rainy day so I am having to stir myself up and get motivated to work. I love the natural light in my new house but when it is raining well there is not a lot of lighting yet, so I am going to need to get creative. My mother in law had a floor lamp she was going to give me when I went last week to care for her and I forgot it. I was frustrated because I had plenty of room to bring it back on my solo trip. Next time the car will be full.

    Anyone have graduations coming up?

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!  On Saturday hubby and I drove by Knott's Berry Farm - they have an outside shopping area so we went to walk around.  Funny thing was we weren't planning it so when we got there I realized I was wearing my Mickey Mouse shirt lol!  Nothing like advertising for the competition lol!

  • DsMom2020

BNukesMom - love you photo with your boys! Can’t wait to see mine at the end of this week!

Yes Chipmun!! My son just passed A school comps and graduates this Friday. Just missed 3.6 gpa with a 3.58. He’s as proud of himself as we are of him. After losing interest and effort in college, we are so happy with his decision to go into the Navy and to go to Nuke school. I was so worried. He says he wants to be first in his class during power school. Love the enthusiasm!!

  • KayCee

Hello Ladies! Loved your flowers, Chipmunk.  Cute pics B’sNukeMoM! Here’s a couple of my sailor. He took some leave days and came home to cook me a delicious Mother’s Day meal all from scratch. Not sure where he got his cooking skills?! Yesterday was his 24th birthday and it’s the first birthday together since he turned 20.

  • Northwoodsmom

KayCee, what a wonderful Mother's Day gift. He sounds like a remarkable and loving Son, you done a awesome job raising him, congratulations. I am so jealous but very happy for you!

  • ProudOfK

    Very nice KayCee!

Wow Kaycee. What wonderful visit with your son. The food looks very good and beautifully done!!

  • Gigi

Kaycee - those look yummy and his plating wow!! Happy birthday to your son !

Chipmunk - love your flowers. I have to bribe my friends to help me with my flower bed. Me and hubby won’t touch it. If we can only change to fake plants we will! HOA will be boiling lol

BsNukeMom - love love all your pictures and I miss Knott’s Berry Farm. Is the old roller coaster still running?

DsMom - Congratulations!! Enjoy your visit!

We’re planning to visit my son on Memorial Weekend, now I’m scared bec of this gas shortage in the south. Not sure how bad it’s going to be and how long it will last but local news yesterday was all crazy. Every 2 Wednesday is my gas day so I hope it will be smooth for me tonight ugh!!

    Hi all - Happy Wednesday!

Gigi - we didn't go inside the park - just stayed outside by the shops.  Ghost Rider was running - we could see that from where we were by the shops.  They are only open to season pass holders right now - they open to the general public on 5/21 and of course at limited capacity.

Kaycee - how fun and what a wonderful Mother's Day meal!  It looks delicious ;-D  And Happy Belated Birthday to him!

DsMom - BZ to your son on finishing strong in A school!

  • Chipmunk

Good Evening everyone!! Sorry for the delayed replies.

DsMom2020 - congratulations to your son!! Sooo happy for him and may he continue to challenge himself.

KayCee - I love it!!! Hugs to your son and give him an extra one for me!! Has he been having to spend his off time in the galley?

Gigi and others - hopeful that you will be able to visit your sailors!!

    B'sNukeMom - love the pictures!!

Gigi - My mother in law actually mentioned putting out some fake flowers in her front yard so she didn't have to water them that much. I can't lay claim to actually planting the flowers I do have, they were already at the new house, but I did trim back the roses just in time.

As for the gas shortage - just make sure you have an approved gas container and fill it as well. I have instructed my sailor to make sure to just top off the tank every time if doing much traveling. My dad always instructed us to refill when the take got down halfway. I don't always follow that rule but when I know I could be driving more and just in the city it is easy, I get nervous if I am at a quarter of a tank and need gas.

D'sMom2020 - I hope you were able to visit if I am remembering correctly.

Hi Chipmunk - we are having an amazing time visiting my son. Weather is perfect. He says he thinks the navy may allow him to travel during the next long break - his class vaccinated a few weeks ago. He initially refused but then changed his mind a week later when told he’d not get any “liberties”. Soon (a while after second vaccine) there is a good chance many restrictions will be lifted.

  • Chipmunk

DsMom2020 - Glad you are having a good time!!!

As for the liberty and travel, there are several places where I think they are lifting restrictions if sailors are vaccinated. Not sure I agree with how it all is being encouraged and conveyed but I know there are sailors getting vaccinated just so they don't have to wear masks and to have liberty.

  • Northwoodsmom

Rakenator I am worried to. We are suppose to visit in June and my son was told if he got the vaccine he would have a better chance of having his chit approved and restrictions removed. I feel that they are feeding on their emotions. What Sailor doesn't want to see their families.

  • WearsLargeHats

Please do not use this forum to spread vaccine misinformation. I was able to fact-check these claims quite easily. I am sure that closer examination of that video would show that the presentation, description, or context is misleading. People are making lots of money on posts that lie.

"COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in the U.S. and UK are not experimental and have all completed animal and clinical trials."

"Emergency Use Authorization" just means that the FDA is allowing the vaccines to be used with an expedited approval, not that they are experimental or untested. It is a legal/bureaucratic thing. 100s of millions of people have received these vaccines and the real-world data coming back is excellent. That the technology was available to produce safe, effective vaccines so quickly is a marvel for which we should be thankful. The alternative is herd immunity the hard way, as is happening in India.

As far as our Sailors being "forced" to get the shot, that is hardly unusual, especially where operational readiness is concerned. Remember the "peanut butter shot"?

I would go so far as to say that it is our patriotic duty to get vaccinated. "Duty" is not a word we use much anymore, but then the idea of spreading disease as a personal choice is pretty novel. All an enemy has to do is spread a few conspiracy theories and sow a little division, and we take ourselves out.

    All:

Two commanders in PH have recently been relieved because of lack of confidence. There has been an increase in suicide within the navy and a growing concern about general mental health.  For many sailors this is the first time they've been away from home and are now in a responsible, demanding and challenging position. Staffing is low because Covid has made the training pipeline slow down.   We don't need to add to those stresses by placing doubt or guilt about this vaccine.  It's a part of the job they accepted. WearsLargeHats mentioned, the peanut butter shot was not an option....

Knowledge is important in how we provide support and encouragement, so if you have questions, concerns or are even hesitant about how to address, this is a great place to come to get encouragement, but in the end our job is to be the wall, supporting  and encouraging our sailors.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Good Morning all and Happy Tuesday!

WearsLargeHats - thank you for your response regarding the COVID vaccine.   There has been a great amount of time/study/research put into the vaccine.  This is NOT experimental.

DsMom2020 - so glad you are having a nice visit with your Sailor - enjoy your time!

Welcome to our newest member ~ Monica!

Please be sure to read the ***NEW MEMBERS*** info at the top of the page.  Lots of good info there.  Also take a look at the Pages (20) to the right under the member profiles - be sure to hit "view all".  And the discussion forum above has some good info too - be sure to read Chipmunks "Nuke A School Daily Schedule".  And of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have.

  • Northwoodsmom

I think all of our Sailors have already proven their patriotic duty by taking the oath and by making the sacrifices to serve. I know they are subject to the authority of their leaders. I just don't agree with how they are being manipulated. God tells us in Romans 13 to submit ourselves to those that have authority over us. I just want the truth to be revealed and all the lies and cover-ups to stop. I already placed my son in my Father's arms so I trust in his safety to Him.

Monica - Welcome to the Nuke Moms group!! I believe you also joined the BC Moms group as well. Be sure to chime in there and ask questions about BC.

    Hi all - Happy Wednesday!

Monica - your son will be in Goose Creek for his A school and his Power School.  Most likely he will also be there for Prototype, but it's possible he could do proto in Ballston Spa, NY.   The entire program takes close to 2 years (from BC to proto grad) give or take.  It's a lot of hard work, long hours, etc. but can be very rewarding.  We have lots of info posted both up above and to the right under the Pages (20).  Read through those to get an idea of what to expect and then ask away with any questions you may have - I'm sure you'll have a few lol!  Don't be shy!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

I'm excited - youngest son is flying home tomorrow morning as a surprise, it's his GF's 27th birthday on Saturday. In on Thursday and back to NE Sunday.  Looking forward to seeing him - well, hopefully we'll get to see him a little lol!  My hubby is going to be surprised too as he has no idea. Quick trip, but I'll take it!

    Hi all - Happy Friday!

I've got my RED on too!  Love your RED converse CSW ;-D

Youngest son arrived yesterday and pulled off the surprise for his GF - she cried!  Happy tears of course!

  • CSW

B'sNukeMom- I just love those romantic surprises.

  • Chipmunk

CSW - I love your red shoes!!!

B'sNukeMom - I know your weekend probably went by quickly but I hope it was enjoyable.

To all of my Nuke Mom friends, Hugs and lots of love. I haven't been very chatting in my private messages to you all but thinking about you and your sailors. Since I started the Beyond BC group. Anyone may join, I started it mostly for our newly graduated BC Moms who did not have another very active group to stay connected, but also a place for us to just chat and visit and make connections with others when sailors move around.

This is going to be a busy week for my sailor, it seems lots of work and long hours is the name of the game, but that is life. It will be a busy week for us as well with my youngest son graduating and all of our preparations for that since we do our own ceremony. Family is coming to visit and just getting things done with the new house. It is going to be a bittersweet day for my youngest though because his brother won't be able to be with him nor even probably facetime with us.

We struggle as moms when our children go off to the military, but we often forget that their siblings may have as many if not more issues than we do with the lack of communication but also a feeling of loss of friendship and a part of their relationship that will never be able to "go back the way it was." It wasn't until a conversation recently that I realized just how difficult that first year without his brother was for my son and even more so with our schooling situation. So for those with kids at home, be sure to give them extra hugs and have more conversations with them than I did mine about how they are dealing with the adjustment of having a sibling in the military.

  • NonnaB

Chipmunk, I know that siblng feeling very well. My daughter just graduated with her Master of Divinity and her brother could not be there. Fortunately, his current assignment gives him the freedom to be here for her ordination. My youngest changed the oil in his car for the first time and lamented that his brother was not there to lend some expertise and good natured ribbing.

  • PacNWmom

    Hi all!

I thought I'd drop in and let y'all know the good news from me today - my nuke officer and his fiance eloped over the weekend!! Funny story: They had entered a raffle to win an elopement package, and they won! No family :'(, only 2 Navy friends as witnesses. I can't wait to see the pictures! Now I need to figure out what to give them as a gift. Any suggestions?

  • Chipmunk

PacNWmom - Oh my!! Congratulations to the new couple!! I know you are happy but I would have been sad to not be there. I have no suggestions as I don't know what they need.

NonnaB - our kids do miss each other and we get busy with our lives and going our separate ways but there is always a connection and when one is missing, it makes us sad.  I have to smile at your youngest changing the oil. My sailor, looked up online and then bought a kit from one of the automotive stores to do his own. If he can save money, he will.

  • Northwoodsmom

PacNWmom, congratulations to you and the young newlyweds. When I eloped my parents bought me a washer and dryer for my new home. It was mainly because we saved so much money for them not having to do anything.  When my daughter got married we bought them a stainless steel dishwasher because they had a home but the dishwasher didn't match and was extremely old.  Of course if they don't have their own home it is a whole different gift buying scenario. My mother-in-law got us a card table and chairs. It is so funny how after 34 years of marriage I can remember this stuff. I am sure what ever comes from your heart will be perfect.  God Bless their lives together!

    Hi all - Happy Monday!

PacNWmom - congratulations to your son and new daughter in love!  How exciting for them.

Chipmunk - yes, the weekend went by way too fast.  It was nice having N here but with it being such a quick trip and him wanting to spend more time with his GF the whole thing was just a blur.  But we made the best of it lol!  Looking forward to June when we go to MI and he's flying in to surprise dad and B.

NonnaB - congratulations to your daughter on her graduation!  I'm glad your Sailor will be able to be there for her ordination ;-D

  • NonnaB

I snt my son'a dinette set and kitchen things. He did not tell me knew about his elopement until 2 months after the ceremony. i sent them a dinette set and some kitchen essentials. My daughter gave me 2 weeks notice so I bought her dress snd some flowers and, when they were ready to move to TN, I bought them kitchen essentials. Lord know what my youngest son will do, but I will just roll with it. I am so sad that Mr. B won't be here to see the youngest one married.
