Hi all - Happy Tuesday! On Saturday hubby and I drove by Knott's Berry Farm - they have an outside shopping area so we went to walk around. Funny thing was we weren't planning it so when we got there I realized I was wearing my Mickey Mouse shirt lol! Nothing like advertising for the competition lol!
BNukesMom - love you photo with your boys! Can’t wait to see mine at the end of this week!
Yes Chipmun!! My son just passed A school comps and graduates this Friday. Just missed 3.6 gpa with a 3.58. He’s as proud of himself as we are of him. After losing interest and effort in college, we are so happy with his decision to go into the Navy and to go to Nuke school. I was so worried. He says he wants to be first in his class during power school. Love the enthusiasm!!
Hello Ladies! Loved your flowers, Chipmunk. Cute pics B’sNukeMoM! Here’s a couple of my sailor. He took some leave days and came home to cook me a delicious Mother’s Day meal all from scratch. Not sure where he got his cooking skills?! Yesterday was his 24th birthday and it’s the first birthday together since he turned 20.
KayCee, what a wonderful Mother's Day gift. He sounds like a remarkable and loving Son, you done a awesome job raising him, congratulations. I am so jealous but very happy for you!
Kaycee - those look yummy and his plating wow!! Happy birthday to your son !
Chipmunk - love your flowers. I have to bribe my friends to help me with my flower bed. Me and hubby won’t touch it. If we can only change to fake plants we will! HOA will be boiling lol
BsNukeMom - love love all your pictures and I miss Knott’s Berry Farm. Is the old roller coaster still running?
DsMom - Congratulations!! Enjoy your visit!
We’re planning to visit my son on Memorial Weekend, now I’m scared bec of this gas shortage in the south. Not sure how bad it’s going to be and how long it will last but local news yesterday was all crazy. Every 2 Wednesday is my gas day so I hope it will be smooth for me tonight ugh!!
Gigi - we didn't go inside the park - just stayed outside by the shops. Ghost Rider was running - we could see that from where we were by the shops. They are only open to season pass holders right now - they open to the general public on 5/21 and of course at limited capacity.
Kaycee - how fun and what a wonderful Mother's Day meal! It looks delicious ;-D And Happy Belated Birthday to him!
DsMom - BZ to your son on finishing strong in A school!
Gigi - My mother in law actually mentioned putting out some fake flowers in her front yard so she didn't have to water them that much. I can't lay claim to actually planting the flowers I do have, they were already at the new house, but I did trim back the roses just in time.
As for the gas shortage - just make sure you have an approved gas container and fill it as well. I have instructed my sailor to make sure to just top off the tank every time if doing much traveling. My dad always instructed us to refill when the take got down halfway. I don't always follow that rule but when I know I could be driving more and just in the city it is easy, I get nervous if I am at a quarter of a tank and need gas.
D'sMom2020 - I hope you were able to visit if I am remembering correctly.
Hi Chipmunk - we are having an amazing time visiting my son. Weather is perfect. He says he thinks the navy may allow him to travel during the next long break - his class vaccinated a few weeks ago. He initially refused but then changed his mind a week later when told he’d not get any “liberties”. Soon (a while after second vaccine) there is a good chance many restrictions will be lifted.
As for the liberty and travel, there are several places where I think they are lifting restrictions if sailors are vaccinated. Not sure I agree with how it all is being encouraged and conveyed but I know there are sailors getting vaccinated just so they don't have to wear masks and to have liberty.
Rakenator I am worried to. We are suppose to visit in June and my son was told if he got the vaccine he would have a better chance of having his chit approved and restrictions removed. I feel that they are feeding on their emotions. What Sailor doesn't want to see their families.
Please do not use this forum to spread vaccine misinformation. I was able to fact-check these claims quite easily. I am sure that closer examination of that video would show that the presentation, description, or context is misleading. People are making lots of money on posts that lie.
"COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in the U.S. and UK are not experimental and have all completed animal and clinical trials."
"Emergency Use Authorization" just means that the FDA is allowing the vaccines to be used with an expedited approval, not that they are experimental or untested. It is a legal/bureaucratic thing. 100s of millions of people have received these vaccines and the real-world data coming back is excellent. That the technology was available to produce safe, effective vaccines so quickly is a marvel for which we should be thankful. The alternative is herd immunity the hard way, as is happening in India.
As far as our Sailors being "forced" to get the shot, that is hardly unusual, especially where operational readiness is concerned. Remember the "peanut butter shot"?
I would go so far as to say that it is our patriotic duty to get vaccinated. "Duty" is not a word we use much anymore, but then the idea of spreading disease as a personal choice is pretty novel. All an enemy has to do is spread a few conspiracy theories and sow a little division, and we take ourselves out.

Looking forward to seeing him - well, hopefully we'll get to see him a little lol! My hubby is going to be surprised too as he has no idea. Quick trip, but I'll take it!
B'sNukeMom - I know your weekend probably went by quickly but I hope it was enjoyable.
To all of my Nuke Mom friends, Hugs and lots of love. I haven't been very chatting in my private messages to you all but thinking about you and your sailors. Since I started the Beyond BC group. Anyone may join, I started it mostly for our newly graduated BC Moms who did not have another very active group to stay connected, but also a place for us to just chat and visit and make connections with others when sailors move around.
This is going to be a busy week for my sailor, it seems lots of work and long hours is the name of the game, but that is life. It will be a busy week for us as well with my youngest son graduating and all of our preparations for that since we do our own ceremony. Family is coming to visit and just getting things done with the new house. It is going to be a bittersweet day for my youngest though because his brother won't be able to be with him nor even probably facetime with us.
We struggle as moms when our children go off to the military, but we often forget that their siblings may have as many if not more issues than we do with the lack of communication but also a feeling of loss of friendship and a part of their relationship that will never be able to "go back the way it was." It wasn't until a conversation recently that I realized just how difficult that first year without his brother was for my son and even more so with our schooling situation. So for those with kids at home, be sure to give them extra hugs and have more conversations with them than I did mine about how they are dealing with the adjustment of having a sibling in the military.
Chipmunk, I know that siblng feeling very well. My daughter just graduated with her Master of Divinity and her brother could not be there. Fortunately, his current assignment gives him the freedom to be here for her ordination. My youngest changed the oil in his car for the first time and lamented that his brother was not there to lend some expertise and good natured ribbing.
I thought I'd drop in and let y'all know the good news from me today - my nuke officer and his fiance eloped over the weekend!! Funny story: They had entered a raffle to win an elopement package, and they won! No family :'(, only 2 Navy friends as witnesses. I can't wait to see the pictures! Now I need to figure out what to give them as a gift. Any suggestions?
PacNWmom - Oh my!! Congratulations to the new couple!! I know you are happy but I would have been sad to not be there. I have no suggestions as I don't know what they need.
NonnaB - our kids do miss each other and we get busy with our lives and going our separate ways but there is always a connection and when one is missing, it makes us sad. I have to smile at your youngest changing the oil. My sailor, looked up online and then bought a kit from one of the automotive stores to do his own. If he can save money, he will.
PacNWmom, congratulations to you and the young newlyweds. When I eloped my parents bought me a washer and dryer for my new home. It was mainly because we saved so much money for them not having to do anything. When my daughter got married we bought them a stainless steel dishwasher because they had a home but the dishwasher didn't match and was extremely old. Of course if they don't have their own home it is a whole different gift buying scenario. My mother-in-law got us a card table and chairs. It is so funny how after 34 years of marriage I can remember this stuff. I am sure what ever comes from your heart will be perfect. God Bless their lives together!
PacNWmom - congratulations to your son and new daughter in love! How exciting for them.
Chipmunk - yes, the weekend went by way too fast. It was nice having N here but with it being such a quick trip and him wanting to spend more time with his GF the whole thing was just a blur. But we made the best of it lol! Looking forward to June when we go to MI and he's flying in to surprise dad and B.
NonnaB - congratulations to your daughter on her graduation! I'm glad your Sailor will be able to be there for her ordination ;-D
I snt my son'a dinette set and kitchen things. He did not tell me knew about his elopement until 2 months after the ceremony. i sent them a dinette set and some kitchen essentials. My daughter gave me 2 weeks notice so I bought her dress snd some flowers and, when they were ready to move to TN, I bought them kitchen essentials. Lord know what my youngest son will do, but I will just roll with it. I am so sad that Mr. B won't be here to see the youngest one married.
Hope all is well for everyone! I have not heard from my son if his chit has been approved/denied to see him this weekend :( Though he called last night discouraging us to come as he is going to be busy this weekend, test on Tuesday too. But everything has been booked/paid for. I’m okay to just have a quick dinner just wanted to see him. The 5th month this June since Christmas vacation was the last time I saw him. On a lighter note he passed PTA (? What I heard) and did good yesterday. Have a good day all !
Gigi, enjoy your trip. I know our sailors stress over lots of things but seeing family, even for a short bit, shouldn't be one of those things. I'm hoping things work out well.
Gigi, I struggle myself with the lack of communication especially when it comes to chits. We have about a month before we go for a visit and all communication shut down again. I know he is working really hard and I don't want to be distraction but just a two word text would calm my nerves. I do pray you will get at least a few hours with him. I thought about just grabbing him food from somewhere and delivering to the NEX just to get a glimpse of him. His sister hasn't seen him for over a year. Hang in there Mom!
Gigi, I hope you get to see your son this weekend. Even small contacts are special. Lack of communication at this time is not unusual as they are so busy. Most of us went through what you are going through.
I am one spoiled mom! After 15 months of not being together, my empty nest is now half full as my sailor comes here when he doesn't have to be on the ship (most nights & weekends). It is almost like he never left. That will change soon so we are making the most of it our time together now.
He had duty on Mother's Day and today (my birthday) but we were able to have lovely family dinners the night before each....for the first time in three years. Time flies.
Hi GigI - I have visited my son three times in Goose Creek. First trip, I found out a day and a half before we were scheduled to fly. Second trip I found out when I landed that it was approved!! Third trip (graduation) I found out about a week before. It may be that your son doesn’t know yet. I know on the second trip we were only going to see him for three days. On the third day he wanted to go back earlier to study. Although I was a little disappointed, I was more proud of him that he was doing what he needed to do to be successful.
I hope you were able to see him and at least enjoy a nice dinner. You’ll be in my prayers.

Though he called last night discouraging us to come as he is going to be busy this weekend, test on Tuesday too.

Type. Meant “are” not “were”.
Canuka - glad you are enjoying this time together!!
NWM - hope you get some communication soon. My son is in T track and I’m guessing there will be a dry spell once Power School starts.
