Just spoke with S. Took PS comps this morning. Will get his score later today. He is nervous but confident. I leave Thursday to go see him. First visit to SC.

Khryse - sending prayers for your sailor.

  • Northwoodsmom

khryse, my son is in about the same boat about being rolled back. I know ii feels awful but my son is doing so much better. I think by going back over the stuff they feel more confident in themselves. He is enjoying Power School this time alot more than the first time. I like to think God had His hand in this. A School graduations opened up to parents and I am very hopeful Power School will soon follow. " I might get to see my son graduated something"! It would be a extra Blessing to see it in person.

  • Chipmunk

Somar and Khryse - Good to hear from you both!  I am sorry that I wasn't on earlier today to respond or see your notes. Thoughts and prayers for your sailors!!

D'sMom - so excited for you!!

Northwoodsmom - hopeful that you will have some special memories with your sailor and a graduation.

  • Chipmunk

Khryse - I just noticed your "typo" post. I am learning, especially the more I do use a smart phone, how easy those occur.!

Somar - Hoping you have had a good report from your sailor!!

  • JayDee659

Good morning ladies.  Sounds like things are returning to "normal" at NNPTC.  Happy to hear that some of you are getting to see your Nukes and attend graduations.

I just had a surprise visit from my Nuke and her Nuke hubby.  They were traveling to an event for his family and stopped to see us and spend the  night.  This is the first time they've been to see us in our new home.  We grilled out. spent some time in the pool and watched the hockey playoffs together.  Before they left, we had lunch on the beach and watched the dolphins.  Time was short but it was wonderful.  They will be stopping to have lunch with us on their way back north, then only two months until we go visit them and help them move to my daughters new duty station.  Hooray for shore duty!!!!

My SIL showed me some cool videos of his being taken off his submarine last week to head home for leave.  Very cool!

Hi all - Happy Wednesday!  Still doing things around the house with B&C - it's exciting seeing everything coming together.  Today we went to a Detroit Tiger's game.  Had a lot of fun and able to check another major league stadium off our list.  More "honey-do's" tomorrow and then youngest flies back to Nebraska tomorrow evening.  Time is flying by lol!

JayDee - a surprise visit - yay!  How fun watching dolphins.

Somar - how did comp go?  Enjoy your visit.

kyryse - sorry to hear about power school but thankful for another chance!  You also enjoy your visit!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

  • JayDee659

B'sNukeMom looks like you are having a great time! Enjoy!

  • Chipmunk

JayDee659 - How much fun!! A surprise visit from your sailors!! My daughter would love to live close enough to a beach where there were dolphins!!

    B'sNukeMom - enjoying your pictures!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi all - Happy Thursday (almost Friday here).  Can't believe our vacation is almost over.  Youngest headed back to Nebraska today and we head home on Saturday.  Still have lots to do on our "honey-do" list but feeling good about what we have accomplished.  Make sure you wear your RED tomorrow!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Dropping N at the airport

B’sNuke Really nice pictures!  Looks like you’re having a great time with your family!!

  • Wink5

Nebraska is happy to have N back!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Wink5 - he'll only be back for a few weeks and then he heads back to CA.  His contract with UNL was only for 2 years and it's up already!  The pandemic sure messed things up.  He's been applying at other colleges and really wants to end up back in CA so we are keeping our fingers crossed something comes through for him.  We were really hoping for another visit to NE but it just wasn't in the cards.  His GF flies in to NE on 7/6 and then they are road tripping back to CA....

ProudOfK - we have  been having a wonderful time!  It's been so nice to spend time with them in their new home.

We fly home tomorrow afternoon - our 10 days sure went by fast!  But, we did get a lot done around their house.  I need to get home to rest lol!

  • Chipmunk

Heather - How are you doing? You are one of our newer members and I have been busy with a lot of things, so if you need something please don't hesitate to post here or reach out to me if you need something. I will respond to private messages or comments on my profile page.

B'sNukeMom - I am so glad that you all were able to go see the kids and help them get things accomplished in their new house. That is one thing I miss about my sailor. He and I connected a lot better when it came to "projects" and what I needed help with. My husband is good, but with his work schedule we are limited on days or times. My son was around a lot more and so we could focus on things more - some times.

  • Chipmunk

I am so happy to hear that things are starting to open up again at NNPTC!! It will still be a bit before RTC is open for PIR but the hopeful excitement of those with kids leaving for GL and asking about hotels and such is nice. We will be doing a lot more of that here as well soon hopefully.

I so much enjoyed our visits to GC and Charleston, I hope many of you are still able to do so. I have missed replying to some of you as you have posted but it is always good to hear from everyone.

Something to keep in mind about your Nukes once  they are in the fleet. Depending on where they are at, they will spend long hard hours at a job that may not get a lot of recognition or attention. When you aren't hearing from them much in A school, PS, or Prototype, prepare yourself for maybe hearing less once they are in the fleet. Especially if yours is going sub. There is a lot that we won't or can't know about what their job is but learning whatever you can about what they do helps to at least have a sense of their mission. It can give you something to talk about and encourage them when others aren't and also to know why they might just need time to recharge when you want them to call or talk to you.

I don't know if they have taken any of the A school students to the USS Yorktown this last year or not for a tour, but when we visited for graduation or son was so excited to take us to the Yorktown so he could show us the engine room and even though it was not nuclear, there were things that he could show us and explain with how that one worked that gave us a sense of what he would be doing. The pride was so evident in his voice. Now that he is in the fleet and working, even if he can't say much I can grasp the enormity of what he does.

I would encourage you to go to the library and look for books on subs or even or nuclear aircraft carries. If you can't find info there ask me, I have some older OOP (out of print) books that have information in them about how they work.

Happy Tuesday!  I'm trying to get caught up at work and ugh! It's so hard to go on vacation when you don't have anyone to cover your work for you.....slowly but surely I'm getting dug out of the hole lol!

    Happy Wednesday!

  • Gigi

BsNukeMom - love all your pictures! You need a vacation after a vacation!

My son is flying home on Friday (all booked)  - yay! But not yet- I haven’t heard if his Chit was approved.

Kryse and Northwoodsmom- how was your trip?
Hope all is well for y’all

  • Northwoodsmom

Gigi, we are down here now. Nice to be with my daughter, I  getting to see alot more of Charleston. My hubby is all about getting from point A to point B and you don't veer off of it. My daughter is full of adventure and alot of fun. We did a cartoon characters today I posted on BC and Beyond. We are having a blast. Got to see my son for about a hour yesterday but they are giving him 4 days off starting Thursday so we have alot of fun things planned. My kids are not beach goers so that is out but ok with me. Hope yours gets his chit, that hug is amazing!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Northwoodsmom - yay!  Sounds like you're having a great time.  Enjoy those 4 days off with your son!  I saw your picture on the Beyond BC group - I love it!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

NewAdventures - you're right - the mascot at the Lugnut's game is a hoot.  Here's my DIL with him.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

ProudOfK - I can't believe your weather right now!  I've been talking to my dad daily - they are finishing up cherry season and he said it's just miserable.  They hope to be done by early next week.  I don't know how he works in this heat - he's 83 years old but you'd never know it lol!

  • ProudOfK

B’sNuke You’re right. I really feel for the people that need to work outside. It was enough just be out to water several of my plants. Trying to keep them all alive. It hit 118 and 119 a couple places the last couple days. I drove a little ways Monday eve to pick up dinner and when I got home it showed 118 on the car temp display. Thankfully today is supposed to be the last day of the really hot. Only supposed to get to 103 or 104 tomorrow - we’re used to that. You’re dad must be really tough to be out in this at 83!

  • ProudOfK

this was the highest we saw on the thermometer at our house

  • Northwoodsmom

You poor Ladies dealing with that kind of heat. I know when I worked at Zion it was 116 once and I was young and managed it fine. Down in SC it was 90 today but sticky and don't know if it is my age or the climate but I struggled with all of the walking in Charleston today. I pray everyone stays safe and listen to your bodies. Take alot of breaks!

  • PacNWmom

It was 116* at my house on Monday. Folks here start complaining about the heat when it gets to about 70, so 116 was quite a jolt to our systems. I have a newly landscaped backyard, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose a few of my new plants. Even though I had given them plenty of water, the leaves simply cooked in the sun.

I went to a soccer game on Saturday night. At the 8:30pm kickoff it was 99*! Unfortunately, experts see more weather like this in our future.

    N4M hugs to all!

  • ProudOfK

I will say that where I am it’s very dry so the heat is a lot more manageable - although 115 and above is still fairly suffocating. PacMWoman I think it’s a lot more humid where you are if I’m remembering correctly where you are. I can only imagine how stifling 116° felt.

  • Chipmunk

Good Morning All - Just stopping to say HI!!

We keep going back and forth with our humidity here, depending on whether we have rain or not. I can handle dry heat a lot better than I can the humidity. When we were in WA and on the desert side, one summer I was pregnant. I couldn't figure out why I was struggling until my neighbor told me the humidity was about 15% - I said, "Oh my, I guess I really had acclimated to the almost 0% humidity because I grew up where at times we were 100% humidity!" I do miss our days up in the NW!

Hugs to all of you getting sailor hugs and for those of you not - I am hopeful you will have an opportunity soon! Or at least some communication - I am right there with you - No News is Good News!  Happy almost 4th of July. I put my flag out yesterday while we had some sunshine! Not sure about the rest of the week.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

Prayers for all our navy family in the northwest! It's hard to imagine that kind of weather in that part of the country. I know this sounds silly but do what you can to stay cool. You might think you're alright then it hits.

B'sNuke, I'm so glad you had a good time in MI. That is a great place to visit. I enjoyed living there years ago. It's so gratifying to see our kids settled and happy.

It's also great that things are opening up and folks are traveling again. I leave Sunday for a week in Charleston and it will probably be my last visit there unless somehow my son finds employment there. He's had a couple really good leads in NM. We shall see. FYI employment opportunities for nukes are pretty good.

  • Chipmunk

    NancyJo - Enjoy your visit!!

    B'NukeMom - I love the meme!! LOL!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

NancyJo - enjoy your visit to Charleston!  I would love to get back there again for another visit - it's on our list lol!  I hope the leads come through for J - have you been to NM yet?

I'm kind of bummed that N is leaving Nebraska - means I won't be back anytime soon to visit you and Wink5!  You and I have had some fun visits in both San Diego and Nebraska ;-D Let's keep our options open for more visits!

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

Thanks, Chipmunk! Agreed, B'sNuke! Good times! Let's see if we can make it work.

My brother lives in Albuquerque which is helpful. J and I did a 3-way call with him when J was first getting responses from NM and talked through all kinds of things like schools, real estate, etc. Also, my oldest daughter is a nuclear engineer who did a summer internship at Los Alamos, and that's one of his leads. Now, if offers start coming from other places I might be mining navy moms for info!

    Stay cool, Sea Sisters!

New Adventures - how exciting. Mine leaves by end of day. It was short but sweet.

Happy 4th of July to some of my longtime friends on here!! I haven't been very chatty in my PMs lately, I am sorry. A lot going on and staying busy. Hugs!!

It was a very special 4th for me. I sure miss this kid

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Northwoodsmom - Love the picture!  Happy 4th of July to you!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

C sent me this picture of B.  They are in their backyard watching the neighbors fireworks.

  • Chipmunk

Those are some large fireworks for the neighbors to be shooting off!!

One thing about living in an area that is relatively flat, at times we have had the vantage point of seeing fireworks displays from multiple city shows at one time. Sort of neat.

Northwoodsmom - I know you have enjoyed your trip!!

  • Gigi

Hope everyone had a safe and good 4th!
I dropped off my son at the airport around 3:30am, and he made it safe in Charleston (now at NNPTC) 11am of their time. Wheew  Thank God. When we booked his flight, he said anytime Monday is fine, he’s free! 3 days later Command change their mind and needs to report back by 12nn, his original booking was arriving 1400, and the only available with AA was 10:30am plus the drive from airport, I was really dying until I knew he got NNPTC safe. My sister from California surprised me/my son for a quick 2 nights visit before heading down to Miami. It was a great weekend for all of us. Ohh did I tell you my upstairs a/c or circuit breaker/keep tripping quit working this weekend as well, They’re camping up to the kitchen. What a mess!
