My son and a classmate were encouraged to apply. Neither got it. They only selected sub sailors that round. As always, needs of the Navy come into play.
My sailor is an ELT. In drydock he was a big part of radiation control during reactor changeover. Once on the boat he was also selected to go to dive school because each sub needs to have at least three qualified divers. Every sailor is guided to continue to learn and take on new qualifications. On my son's boat two of his mates have transitioned from enlisted to officers with one being commissioned a couple of weeks ago. While the Navy moves at its own pace, there seem to be many opportunities for those who are willing and able. ELT will be just one of the opportunities available to Nukes.
Hi All - my NUKE graduates from Power School on Friday. I'm so excited and anxious at the same time - does anyone know how long the graduation will last?
Nautical Mom - Congratulations!! I think we have a couple of others that are to graduate this week as well??
If they are not splitting into two groups due to weather and they hold graduation outside, it will probably last about an hour. I can't remember exactly. I would say plan for about 2 hours at least and some extra time for getting to and from. The gift shop is open but only until 12 noon, unless they don't have it open at all. I was really disappointed as I didn't know that and I missed being able to buy a coin for my sailor.
If it rains, then graduation will likely be inside. We all got there the same time and those of us waiting were given a place to wait in the Galley, but that was pre-Covid.
Nautical Mom - we will be there too - congratulations to your sailor! My son told me that if it rains we will not be able to attend as they will move it inside. They were also informed yesterday that there is a limit to 2 guests after being told their families could attend. Trying to work out now if his grandparents can attend as one of his friend's guests since he has no one coming. Does anyone know if you need the invitation mailed to get on base or how they know who the two guests are? He is asking but experienced moms usually know what is up! Assuming that they are doing things as before covid stopped all attendance. We are excited to finally attend something for him so hoping for no rain...
4kidsforfun - I saw on a FB post that they had to turn in the names of who was attending so I don't believe you could attend under someone else's name.
Fingers crossed it doesn't rain!
And BZ to all those graduating Power School on Friday!
B'sNukeMoM - the weird thing was they gave two addresses for invitations but then gave many more names for background checks (name/address/license number/ etc...) for others to come last month and were told that was all for graduation. So all have been approved in that regard. Who knows until the day is here I guess.
Hope it doesn’t rain on Friday! Congratulations Nautical Mom and 4kidsforfun! seen on FB post that everybody passed comps for this PS batch graduating on Friday. Woohoo Happy for y’all.
My son called and I was waiting on him to say something about the graduation on Friday, he never said anything and I didn’t even ask as well since I met few of his friends
BZ to all the graduates and their families! The Navy does a great job of letting you take those pictures of special events so don't be shy! Those are something you'll cherish for years!
4kidsforfun - I am pretty sure that the names on your sailors list has to match up with what he turned in. When my son was doing PS, they did not have a limit, but the recent changes probably cutting back to 2 guests, they did not update the forms. The invitations were just a formality as I recall. I had ours but that is not what we showed. We had to show our driver's license and they had to double check the names on the list with our ID. I believe we had to give them our sailor's name, so I don't think the grandparents can go as another sailor's guest.
Also, unlike BC in the past PS graduation was not video taped. I don't know if they have done so during the shut down but they did allow us to take pictures. My son's was inside due to rain and we had two groups for enough seating. I am assuming that with social distancing protocols, they just don't feel like they can accommodate everyone inside. The halls were crowded getting in.
Pray for sunshine! They should know by tomorrow night what the plan is.
Good morning ladies, I’m having some trouble finding the link to watch the graduation and was wondering if someone could forward it to me or tell me where to find it? Thank you in advance !
Maggie - Are you looking for the BC PIR graduation or for Nuke Power School Graduation? I don't know that they live stream the PS one. I would say it would be on the FB group but I am not sure. Here is the BC info, I will see if I can find something for PS if that is what you wanted.
Maggie - my best guess is that it is being played through this FB group - (7) Navy Nuke School and Power Training Unit Goose Creek & Ball... which is private and only for current student families. You might be able to contact the ombudsman - I will see if I can find that info for you.
Maggie I met your son and he is such a nice guy - congrats to you! I have a very quick video of him on stage and some pics of their group of five for you. Beautiful day in the pictures, only thing missing is the 92% humididty!
I am happy for you all Moms and to your family. Happy tears for you all!! Congratulations again. Can’t wait to hear about your visit, apartment transition, liberty and all. As I said it’s my son’s class and friends he graduated with from BC !!
My 50th today but I’m staying low. Just got back from Vegas to celebrate with family and friends

Congratulations sailormom, on your son completing his 6 year commitment. Prayers for Blessing on his next journey he will embark on.
Seasoned Nuke Moms, I just want to let you all know how very much of a Blessing you are to all of us. Your encouragement and knowledge helps us in so many ways. I never want any of you to think the extra time you give of yourselves isn't highly appreciated by us newer moms. Each of us have different experience through our Sailor's journey through the pipeline and beyond. They are daunting at times. We stand on the sidelines feeling helpless and scared and you with all the compassion and encouragement you can muster pick us up, dust us off and give us hope and strength to carry on. I don't know what I would do with out some of you. So I just want to say how very important you are, with all your different personalities and experiences you make this journey bearable for many of us. Thank you all from my heart!
Sailormom - We would love to have you stick around!!
Northwoodsmom & DsMom2020 - You are most welcome!! And thank you for the kind words. I still feel like a newbie when my sailor is starting a new thing, so we are always learning and always encouraging the next one.
My sailor is going through a pretty rough time right now. We could both use some good thoughts headed our way. Don't mean to be cryptic, but I don't think I should elaborate any further.
Hello from me as well!! Do we have an A school graduation tomorrow? It seems like things are a flurry again on the BC Mom group, back to everyone asking questions about how to get around and where to for PIR liberty. It made me wonder how much of a routine we are getting back to at NNPTC. I know we had a PS graduation last week. I hope everyone's sailors are getting settled into their new housing.
Be prepared for communication to get silent again as they change from a school hour / study time format to a life on the ship work schedule. At least that is the way I gathered from my sailor that it seemed like they were transitioning our sailors into a routine more like what they will have on a ship but they are still studying and learning.
