I am happy for you all Moms and to your family. Happy tears for you all!! Congratulations again. Can’t wait to hear about your visit, apartment transition, liberty and all. As I said it’s my son’s class and friends he graduated with from BC !!
My 50th today but I’m staying low. Just got back from Vegas to celebrate with family and friends
sailormom - you are welcome to stay - no need to leave. If you do leave and you choose to delete your profile then EVERYTHING you have ever posted will also be deleted.
It's nice to have "veteran" moms here to answer questions.
You can choose to "unfollow" the groups. That way you won't get emails of what's happening.
Congratulations sailormom, on your son completing his 6 year commitment. Prayers for Blessing on his next journey he will embark on.
Seasoned Nuke Moms, I just want to let you all know how very much of a Blessing you are to all of us. Your encouragement and knowledge helps us in so many ways. I never want any of you to think the extra time you give of yourselves isn't highly appreciated by us newer moms. Each of us have different experience through our Sailor's journey through the pipeline and beyond. They are daunting at times. We stand on the sidelines feeling helpless and scared and you with all the compassion and encouragement you can muster pick us up, dust us off and give us hope and strength to carry on. I don't know what I would do with out some of you. So I just want to say how very important you are, with all your different personalities and experiences you make this journey bearable for many of us. Thank you all from my heart!
Sailormom - We would love to have you stick around!!
Northwoodsmom & DsMom2020 - You are most welcome!! And thank you for the kind words. I still feel like a newbie when my sailor is starting a new thing, so we are always learning and always encouraging the next one.
My sailor is going through a pretty rough time right now. We could both use some good thoughts headed our way. Don't mean to be cryptic, but I don't think I should elaborate any further.
Hello from me as well!! Do we have an A school graduation tomorrow? It seems like things are a flurry again on the BC Mom group, back to everyone asking questions about how to get around and where to for PIR liberty. It made me wonder how much of a routine we are getting back to at NNPTC. I know we had a PS graduation last week. I hope everyone's sailors are getting settled into their new housing.
Be prepared for communication to get silent again as they change from a school hour / study time format to a life on the ship work schedule. At least that is the way I gathered from my sailor that it seemed like they were transitioning our sailors into a routine more like what they will have on a ship but they are still studying and learning.
Good Morning!! I hope everyone is doing well!! This group has gotten a lot quieter and I have gotten a lot busier. I spent yesterday afternoon and evening helping one of my children move out of their apartment into their new home and I am moving very slowly this morning, sore feet and arms.
Chipmunk, I know right? Like they said back in BC no news is good news. Looks like the Navy is keeping them all so busy and absorbed in their studies we don't hear from them anymore. I miss A School, atleast my son remembered he had parents worrying about him. I know things were going to be hard during deployment but never expected through the schooling. Just wanted to share so everyone else knows they are not alone in this.
Northwoodsmom- where did you stay last time you went to GC or even the first one? How’s their cancellation policies? How’d you booked as well? No Airbnb experience here (lol)
or Anyone has a suggestion? Hotels I usually use with kitchen are all booked. TIA
I was scheduled to visit by Oct but he refused (could be a test week) but invited me this Labor Day weekend. It’s kinda rush to me but how will I say no to the invite :)
Hi Gigi - when I search in Airbnb I put in to filter only places that allow last minute cancellation. Have stayed at 3 Airbnb. One was kind of dirty but others were very nice. Also stayed at a Marriott with kitchen. Sounded like it would cost more but was cheaper dye to Airbnb feed and cleaning fees.
Gigi, we booked through Airbnb. We found it cheaper than VRBO most of the time. We do check both sites because of difference in price for the same house/apartment. You can use the filters for cancelation prices and put in what you want to pay and get a list of places. Also if you days are flexible they will give you more places. Both places we stayed at were very clean and in safe areas. We loved Park Circle area and even walked everywhere. I felt safe and it was less than a 15 minute drive from base. We are now looking for a place for graduation and will probably stay in the same area. I like having a whole house to ourselves especially if it is for longer than 2 days and with Covid. No crowded elevators, hallways or breakfast areas. Guess I am not use to being around large groups of strangers. Have a safe and Blessed trip.
Gigi - I stayed at the Days Inn on Red Banks road - it has its good points and not so good. For me, close proximity, rate, rewards points, and hot breakfast (pre-Covid), were all benefits. Drawbacks, older but some remodeled rooms, hubby didn't like smell but he could have been catching whiffs from the ocean, who knows. Near the train tracks, and some proximity issues. Sort of depends on what you like and I know that things are much more strict for those you are visiting so it may not work well.
Chipmunk, my daughter is on the Bush. They are underway doing sea trials. It will be awhile before they're ready to deploy. This will be her last cruise then its off to shore duty for awhile. Whew.
JayDee659 - I wasn't sure if yours was still on the Bush or not. I only skimmed the article but I wondered if that was the case - sea trials before being deployed. There seems to be a lot that goes into the maintenance and readiness of these carriers. More than we can probably share here.
Yes Chipmunk, I would not share the details here. You are correct, there is a lot that has to be confirmed and proved at sea before deployment.
While I'm sure that you Ford parents aren't looking forward to it, the rest of the fleet will be happy when the Ford is deployable. Will take some pressure off carriers doing back to back deployments.
JayDee659 - Whether parents, families, wives, or husbands want it, the point of being in the Navy is to be out on the waters and deployed. Yes, it is hard but never something that I did not want my son to experience and be a part of.

And the discussion forum above has some good info too - be sure to read Chipmunks "Nuke A School Daily Schedule". And of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have.
B’sNuke - that meme makes me laugh every time. And today its especially applicable. I got up five minutes before I was supposed to start working. Fortunately I work from home so I still started work on time but I can still say I did get out of bed. I do have a good excuse though - we got a call from our nuke at about 12:30 am this morning so it did break up my sleep but so very well worth it.
Hi All - just sharing how priceless it was to see my sailor after he returned from a long underway!! Even one night is something I’m more than grateful for! Our kitty was sure happy to see him too. Now he deals with being homeless. He gave up his apartment right before they left. One of his roommates was going to shore duty and the other was going to be done with his commitment after the underway. Apparently, there are now two carriers at his base so finding a place is difficult. My Momma heart feels sad that he doesn’t have a place to unpack, sleep, shower and cook.
KayCee so what do they do? Can they sleep on the ships or do they have to get motels until the find something. Does the Navy help with this or are they on their own? I find this a little unnerving.
Maggie
