ShipOfDoodles   sub email say your sailor's name is david O Johnson on the sub michigan gold crew.  the email would be        JohnsDO@Michigan-gold.navy.mil    5 leatters of the last name. first initial, middle initial, boat name. ( crew is only for ssbn and ssgn not fast attacks. Hope that helps.  

ShipOfDoodles - my son is on a fast attack sub and I never received an email from him while he was/is on deployment. I would occasionally send him one.  I did ask him if he ever received them and he said that he did eventually read them. His boat email is the first six letters of last name first initial middle initial@sub name.navy.mil

Everyone, thank you all so much for your help and insight! Since subs cannot receive communication until they surface, I do understand I may never hear from him while he is deployed. That being said, I guess I just wanted to have some avenue to write out a little news here and there, and let him know we all think of  him often. He may never read them, but it would make me feel better to let him know we have not forgotten him, ha ha. This is a shorter deployment (under 90 days I think), but good practice for those 6-month deployments he has coming up. 

KayCee, my son is on a fast attack as well, so I will follow your instructions on the address. Thank you momc and topdog1p for your input as well.

ShipOfDoodles - when I email my sailor while he is out on underways, I also copy to his regular email. That way, if there was something that he missed when he was out to sea, I know that he can always catch up on it later. 

Also, anyone is welcome to join my Beyond BC   group that I started. The page is private, but we still observe OPSEC/ PERSEC - it is a little chattier at times and the great thing is we cross the boundaries of many different rates. Just trying to be a place of community. There are several members who have Nuke sailors and in general, we usually leave those questions to this group, but it is a nice place to connect. 

ShipOfDoodles - will you be staying in MI?  B&C are in Burton now.  We visited last June and had a great time.

B's NukeMoM-Yes, hopefully the plan to stay! I was supposed to build a very SMALL house up near Empire, but the quote came back so ridiculously high, I started looking at existing homes--also a major challenge. I do have an accepted offer on a 1915 bungalow in Ludington--have to get through the inspection though! Burton is a bit down and east from me, but I think Michigan is wonderful no matter where you are! Working remotely for now, but probably will segue into other work in a year or so. 

Chipmunk, what a great idea to CC the personal mail. Thanks! And, I would like to look into Beyond BC. My son has been out on a number of underways since arriving at his permanent station, but this is by far the longest. Touching base with other moms would be good for my psyche. I have a pretty good attitude about the lengthy silences, but my heart is still a mama's heart. I miss him so.

ShipOfDoodles, would love to have you on Beyond BC. Do you still have your golden doodles, I remember you would show us pictures of them on the Nuke page. I pray everything turns out great with the inspection and you get settled in nicely in Michigan. My son in love is from Traverse City and I have visited that area. Hello again.

ShipOfDoodles - I googled it and it's about 190 miles from Burton.  But maybe sometime when we visit again we could meet up halfway.  I always enjoy meeting new Navy moms!  

Northwoodsmom - B&C took a trip to Traverse City a few years ago and they loved it.....One of these visits to MI we hope to get there too.

• Hey all - just a check in...we survived our first deployment. We were so glad to be present for their homecoming! This is a pic my husband snapped while we were waiting for our guy to get off the boat (he was on the shutdown crew....if you know, you know lol). I hope everyone and their sailors are well!

My sailor just arrived for his first tour in Hawaii and like all of us, I am so proud.  Congrats to you get to be with your sailor and thanks for the heads up on homecoming...I didn't even know about that - I better save my airline miles and credit card points!!!

B'sNukeMoM-I would absolutely love to meet up sometime! And Northwoodsmom, thanks for your well-wishes. For a 107 year-old house, she came through pretty well. I will have to replace the shingles/add a ridge vent, but the structure is solid and I was able to get a concession for something off for the roof condition. I have to wait until August 1 to close (allow seller time to locate suitable housing in this crazy market), but I am thankful I have a place to stay in the interim. Traverse is just an hour away right now, but when I get to Ludington it will be a bit farther. Love Traverse. I am happy to report though, that I am also enjoying discovering Ludington. What a gorgeous waterfront park/common areas they have. And I did add Beyond BC to my groups at Chipmunks recommendation!

Nautical Mom-my son is at Pearl as well. Arrived last October and I honestly think he's been out more than in! 

Navymom18-loved the picture and I am taking strength from your survival of the first (long?) deployment. There are long days sometimes wondering how he and his boatmates are doing. I keep "no news is good news" at the ready in my thoughts.

Happy spring everyone, from me and the doodles! They've survived the move and enjoyed their first beach romp in 24 degree weather with stiff winds. As did I!

ShipOfDoodles, if you haven't already try to visit Frankenmuth, it's a old German town. My daughter and I are planning on taking the ferry across and visiting it sometime this summer finger crossed. I heard it is incredible.

Good Morning Everyone! I was getting snuggles with my granddaughter last week!! My son's ship FRG (Family Readiness Group) had designed a new RED shirt for a fundraiser. I proudly wore it yesterday as we walked all around their zoo. 

My granddaughter loves Snoopy and so I did scroll through and showed her some of the memes the other day. She enjoyed that.

All, I just now received an email from my son written yesterday and sent from his boat. The email I sent reached him!!! Best of all, it reached him before his pinning ceremony yesterday morning at 0800. He has earned his dolphins and was so excited. Now fully qualified for submarines. Cannot wait to hear more. My heart is so full this night.

ShipOfDoodles, congratulations to your Sailor that is amazing! I heard getting your dolphins took a long time sometimes but your son aced it pretty fast.  So happy he received your email right before, probably meant the world to him too. 

I haven't done the ferry across yet but my daughter and son-in -love have, they took their car over to Ludington. I usually drive across the Mackinac Bridge, it is so beautiful up there but plan on the ferry sometime soon.

Good morning! I tried to keep up with the Nuke page for a while, but it finally became overwhelming. It seems I missed a lot. 
Chipmunk, congratulations on the daughter-in-law. I’m so happy for you all! 
My son is currently on an underway, his fifth in less than a year and a half. He will hopefully be back on land soon and be able to come home. Flights were far too expensive at Christmas, so I’m praying that it will be much more reasonable now. If not, I’ll be planning a trip to King’s Bay. 

MoMom - Thank you! I have not done a very good job of keeping up privately with all of my friends on here. I love my DIL and most importantly, I know that she loves my sailor and he loves her.  

Hopefully you will be able to go see your sailor. I know that it has been a long time. From my son's experience and seeing the comments from the Navy wives, the underways can be even more of a challenge in some respects than a longer deployment.

Pizanche & Northwoodsmom - I hope things are a little calmer for your sailors. We have had some winds today as well, but calmer now. Then again, the wind blows here more than not!

I was able to see Vinnie but just from  a rolled down window. Traffic was continuously flowing and we didn’t know if we were allowed to stop. Still amazed and heart was full.

Gigi - So happy you got to see some ships. I have only been able to see my son's ship from a distance. Both times we visited it was in the shipyard and no civilians are allowed. Maybe the next visit!

Yes Chipmunk- hopefully next time! My son Filled up/signed up/ requested (? Not sure what’s the right word Ha!) but listed Norfolk as one of the 3 he would like to be in. He might end up with yours as submarine is out of the picture for now.
