Good morning! I tried to keep up with the Nuke page for a while, but it finally became overwhelming. It seems I missed a lot.
Chipmunk, congratulations on the daughter-in-law. I’m so happy for you all!
My son is currently on an underway, his fifth in less than a year and a half. He will hopefully be back on land soon and be able to come home. Flights were far too expensive at Christmas, so I’m praying that it will be much more reasonable now. If not, I’ll be planning a trip to King’s Bay.

  • Chipmunk

MoMom - Thank you! I have not done a very good job of keeping up privately with all of my friends on here. I love my DIL and most importantly, I know that she loves my sailor and he loves her.

  • Chipmunk

Hopefully you will be able to go see your sailor. I know that it has been a long time. From my son's experience and seeing the comments from the Navy wives, the underways can be even more of a challenge in some respects than a longer deployment.

Northwoodsmom - I had seen the bad weather - my SIL lives in GA and they got hit with some pretty crazy weather yesterday too.  Hope everyone is safe!

  • Pizanche

talked to my sailor last night - he said the winds were wild at GC, and they were expecting it again tonight

  • Chipmunk

Pizanche & Northwoodsmom - I hope things are a little calmer for your sailors. We have had some winds today as well, but calmer now. Then again, the wind blows here more than not!

    Gigi...you got there. Yea!

Happy Friday! Hope all is well so with your sailors!

I was able to see Vinnie but just from  a rolled down window. Traffic was continuously flowing and we didn’t know if we were allowed to stop. Still amazed and heart was full.

    Thank you again Canuka!

Gigi - welcome to San Diego!  Enjoy your visit!

  • Chipmunk

Gigi - So happy you got to see some ships. I have only been able to see my son's ship from a distance. Both times we visited it was in the shipyard and no civilians are allowed. Maybe the next visit!

  • Gigi

    Thank you B’sNukeMom!

Yes Chipmunk- hopefully next time! My son Filled up/signed up/ requested (? Not sure what’s the right word Ha!) but listed Norfolk as one of the 3 he would like to be in. He might end up with yours as submarine is out of the picture for now.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Gigi - remind him it's the "needs of the Navy"  or ........

  • Chipmunk

B'sNukeMom - After these last few years, I finally have had the term "Detailer" used in everyday language with my sailors and understand their role a lot more as my gal was working on getting her new orders before they got married.

Gigi - Even if he doesn't get on with my son, Norfolk is a big place so there are possibilities there and hopefully it would not be too far for you to visit.

A call during liberty from Ketchikan! This mama's heart is over-full. I think since the mission has been declassified, I can share some photos. Some great footage on navytimes.com. as well. I also found out he finally was able to star-reenlist, with his pinning in the iciest of conditions!

For all of you out there with sons and daughters in the pipeline, my thoughts are ALWAYS with you.

  • Chipmunk

ShipofDoodles - Glad you got to hear from your sailor!!

B's best friend from the Navy (they went all through nuke school together and then lived together in VA) and his wife are visiting B&C in MI.  They have so much fun when they get together - it's great to see lasting friendships from the Navy!

I'm looking forward to seeing all of them in May for the wedding (vow renewal/celebration). Looking forward to seeing his mom - Mommamac - too!

  • Chipmunk

B'sNukeMom - That is so wonderful that they are getting to visit with their friends. I am sure that B&C are looking forward to their upcoming "wedding" celebration!!

Chipmunk - yes, they are sure looking forward to it.  Hard to believe that they ended up getting married in her moms living room in July 2020.  Then went through 3 different "save the date" changes to get us to 5/22/2022!  Excited for the actually ceremony!

Happy Easter in return!  That was so cute, I had to send it to my daughter to share with my granddaughter.

May this Holy Season for many faiths remind us to share God's goodness and love with each other.

  • Chipmunk

This is my traditional Easter Bunny cake. This year I was able to make it and share it with our church and community at an evening dinner meal that we help serve at.

    Thank you B'sNukeMom!!

I just realized that it has been three years this April since mine finished Prototype. My husband and I flew out, I think, I don't even recall now, to see our sailor and celebrate Easter with him. It seems hard to believe that he has been in the fleet now longer than he was in school.

  • CanukaVet

Chipmunk...cute cake! My Easter baking was egg-shaped cookies that are on the ship now. Extra nourishment for a few weeks.

  • Chipmunk

Canuka - I am sure those cookies are not likely to last a couple of weeks, unless you made an extremely large batch!!!! LOL!

  • CanukaVet

Chipmunk, there are about 80 in this batch, fresh as of Friday. I usually send about 110+...if fresh can last him about 4-5 weeks. During deployment, the mail took about 3-5 weeks but he was still eating them for another few weeks. He says he shares with his Department. I seal in individual bags (2 or 3 cookies in each) then in an aluminum pan sealed with foil and packing tape. They seem to stay fresh enough to be enjoyed.
These are fresh....didn't say anything earlier for OPSEC. It is now public knowledge that they are heading out right now for an underway...can be seen live on San Diego Web Cam (Facebook and YouTube).

Snoopy - Halfway through the week! | Facebook

Canuka - I'll bet your son's department loves it when he receives a care package lol!

  • Chipmunk

Elle - You sent a message through the {Sent to group} above, but we do not have a way to reply to that other than here.

I assume that your sailor is now at his new duty station. I know that backpay on things can take time, but I would suggest that he speak to his Chief, and I think it is human resources or payroll. It has been 4 years since mine graduated from Prototype, maybe some that have had someone more recently can verify if there have been other delays or who they have talked to. I believe my son kept having to check with his SLPO about his back pay for his E4 over 4 years, and then E5 BHA.

It is something that he does need to continue to be the "squeaky wheel."  Keep us posted and let us know how things turn out.

  • CanukaVet

Elle - My son finished prototype last year. As I recall, getting the bonus is not automatic....they have to ask for it/submit the correct documents. He got his fairly easily after that but several of his new shipmates had a similar experience to your sailor...most being told "prove that we owe you something, how much and when".
Hopefully your son kept his enlistment papers...there should be one or more pages that itemize the bonuses he was to get. They should be signed by both the recruiter and the Enlisted.
My son's 2 forms are: "Enlistment Bonus Statement of Understanding" NAVCRUIT 1133/102 (says "Requiring Directive: COMNAVCRUITCOMINST 1130.8 in the upper right). The second doc is: "Enlistment Guarantees NAVCRUIT 1133/52" (says Supporting Directive COMNAVCRUITCOMINST 1130.8 on the upper right).
My son had me scan these docs for him to show his shipmates and leadership what worked for him.
    Hope this helps.
  • Chipmunk

Canuka - Thanks!! I don't recall my son having to do anything like this, so they may have changed things since he was in prototype. They received the first part of the bonus, I think after completing A school and then the remainder after Prototype. I am glad that you were able to help Elle out!

Dee's Mom and any of our other newer members, please don't hesitate to come introduce yourselves here and let us know where your sailor is in their pipeline or Nuke journey.

If anyone's loved one is still in DEP and you are just trying to glean information on the Nuke Pipeline, this is also a good place to ask questions. Be sure your Depper is establishing a healthy habit and routine for exercise, especially running and building endurance prior to BC. Their exercising never stops - well actually, sometimes it does when they are out in the fleet, especially during Covid when the gyms and workout areas were closed, so it is important to make some form of exercise a daily habit.
