B'sNukeMom - Thanks! It was quite a game. My son called his dad so they could "watch" the overtime in the game together. I am not sure what they were streaming it live on, because they were delayed a few minutes. My son misses family, and he was never one to watch football, like his younger brother, or even his cheerleader sister, so calling to share those moments with dad tells you how much he misses home. He and his wife (my sailor DIL for those who don't know) are now settled into their new house. Baby Precious keeps growing.
joe-mom - oh you know I will lol! Nice thing is they are back here on 3/21 because our youngest gets married on 3/22. So we'll get them for another 5 days! WOOHOO!
Hi all - I'm back! Had a great time with my lil Oliver here for his visit. Pops and I took him to a basketball game at the local college and he had a great time!
Hated to see them leave yesterday but the good news is they will be back in a month for my younger sons wedding! That little guy is just such a joy to have around. He's so happy and is so much fun. I can't wait until we retire and can see him all the time!

I was just a little girl when my dad would come in on the U.S.S. David R Ray (or U.S.S. Lang before that). Amazing how the San Diego web cam below can still bring tears to my eyes remembering how emotional it was to have dad come home.

Congratulations to all of our Prototype graduates!!! I apologize for not posting sooner about my thoughts on graduation. I do recommend that you take some snacks with you, especially if you have the later graduation (if they are doing 2) and you plan to tour the Yorktown afterwords.
Here is my discussion on - Prototype Graduation - Goose Creek which I posted in 2019. There are some pictures and comments, I believe regarding Power School graduation as well.
Q's Momma - oh, and just remember soft orders are just that. It's possible they could change still...The Navy likes to keep everyone on their toes lol!
Lancertrackmom - Bravo Zulu on the impending prototype graduation.
My Vinson ETN just walked in the door after 24 hour duty so I asked him about PPLAN (I had never heard of it before your question here).
After training, your sailor will be an administrator for the Power Plant's special network. He wasn't sure how long the school is. He did say that they usually send sailors to the school after they have been on the ship for awhile but they haven't sent anyone recently because they are expecting some like yours, from school right after prototype. Any specialty or special training is a good thing but they most likely have to stand regular watch and 24 hour duty rotations like everyone else. The Nukes are the busiest on the ship, all hands on deck.
I asked my son and he said much of what Canuka shared. He did say that your son would be part of the Reactor Network division versus other ETNs which are Reactor Controls. Work load can depend on various things with the Network division. He also said that when your son leaves the Navy, he will have a lot more certifications and be able to get a job as a Network Admin, or similar type IT adjacent jobs.
