NUKE moms

My Sailor has been in Nuke A school in GC for 2 weeks.  Does anyone know how I send packages to him? Take care everyone!

Seahawks12 - Has your son "classed up" yet? If so, then you need his class #. If not then you will use Indoc in place of his class #. I am trying to reply on my phone - we shall see if I can get the rest of the information copied and pasted here for you.

Okay, I am not sure about opening the file with the address on my phone. If you can't figure it out, I will try to reply tonight when I can use my computer. I only used the Priority mail box when shipping to my sailor as it included free tracking & insurance up to $100.00. After mailing my first PKG, I learned that from my location it usually took 2 days to arrive. So, I tried to mail on Wed, and I would pay attention to the tracking so I could notify my son. I think the mailroom was only open untill 5 pm M-F and until noon on Saturday. I think they usually got out a little earlier on Friday. My son would go on Fri or Saturday to get his PKG. Regular mail is delivered to your sailor's class, but pigs get a pick up slip, so you may know before your son that his PKG has been delivered. 

Due to multiple hands touching the mail - Do Not Send anything valuable.

Seahawks12 - Here you go!  I still suggest going to the FAQ Nuke group and reading through and checking out the other information there, but I am copying and pasting the address information here for you. 

Boxes, Packages and letters can be sent through Snail Mail ( US Postal Service ),

FedEX ( Federal Express )  and UPS ( United Parcel Service )

Using the below in processing address as the class number.

 For those going to MM and EM Nuke A-Schools

   FN  Last, First MI  ( note:FN or Fireman is used for  MMs                                                                        and EMs) )                    101 NNPTC Cir.

     Class # Indoc

     Goose Creek, SC 29445

 For those going to ET  Nuke A-School 

      SN  Last, First MI  ( note:SN or Seaman  is used for ETs)

      101 NNPTC Cir.

       Class # Indoc

(Class # will change to reflect current info as he progresses through the pipeline at NNPTC)

USPS, FedEx, and UPS all make daily deliveries on base during the week, so if you can  send a package by those means, the student can receive it through the base mailing system.

Note – having items arrive before the student may have unpredictable results

 - Seahawks12, once you have his class # that should be a combination of a letter and numbers and you write it in place of Indoc. Also, before you address the package, I would take it to the post office and double check. My training has always been that the address is read from the bottom to the top, so broadest to most specific. If that is the case then the class # should be on the line above the actual address for NNPTC. The mailman just delivers to NNPTC. The mailroom petty officers are the ones who need to know the class #. 

This is the format the USPS shows when I did a zip code look up by the address on their website.

FYI - Amazon, FEDEX & UPS may need to have it marked like I indicated below with just the street address and then city, state, zip. Keep the class # above that. 

Depending on your PO, if you don't have the address exactly as they are able to read it, it will reject it when you go to send a package. We ran into that with my shipping things to my son's ship. Our metro postal system seemed to be updated a lot more electronically than another mom who lived in a very small town. Her post office took the package just as we had been told, but when I went to take my package with the same address to our PO and they put it into their electronic system, it rejected it. I did a lot searching using the zip code look up to figure out how to enter it correctly. It had to do with the box #. But it was rather frustrating. The address to the mailroom at Goose Creek should be easy enough.

MomofJoseph, thank you so much!  His first day of class was today.  Not sure of what happens on the first day.  I hope he had a good first day of class.  He is a EM.

Seahawks12 - Your son's first day may depend. If he got any paperwork or other information that needed to be shared with him out of the way during Indoc, then they will probably hit the floor running with instruction. Be sure to read through my discussion above, Nuke A school daily schedule

Feel free to ask your sailor about any updates to what I have shared and then post a comment at the end. I added to that discussion as my son progressed. My son was an ET, so some of their classes were slightly different. As I recall, they did one subject at a time in A school. In Power school they did 3 subjects, and all of the rates were together, I believe. My son commented on how the three different rates ended up helping each other with their work depending on what the subject was and who had more training with which one. 

I had an amazing birthday - one last family vacation. It was like the old days (pre Navy) - went to Hawaii with hubby, sis, her hubby, neice, nephew, and best of all, my son (and his GF). My heart was singing with joy!! Best time ever but did feel extra sad as it neared the end. Mourning the future family vacations son will miss…. I know you all can relate. 

My son had his NEC (?) restored last week and got his soft orders so I’m guessing he’s down to a month or two before moving on. Looks like he’ll be going to Pearl Harbor. That’s his first choice. He really wanted an S9G but he says there were none in San Diego. So, San Diego was his second choice (the entire families 1st choice since we live an hour away)! I am happy for him that it looks like he’ll get the boat he wants. I guess one of the subs out of Pearl is going to be Co-Ed but he asked for the other one. I think he has a buddy already on the boat he wants too. Offered him his extra bedroom while he gets situated. That’s a big relief. Anyway, it’s starting to get real. I hope he comes home on his way there. We will have one huge party to send him on his way! 

HK in That poem is spot on. Add pride to the list of emotions tho.
