hi there My daughter graduates a school tomorrow Dec 10th and she got verbal orders to the USS Mason so I am looking for all the information I can.... I uinderstand they are on deployment till April, I was wondering If she will get flown out to meet the ship or just wait in port till it returns... can anyone help me with this?
Welcome Alyce!!! Glad you found this site, as you will be too, it's great!! My daughter was assigned to the Mason but is in Norfolk waiting to find out if she will be flown to it or wait out there for it's return. She is so excited tho!!
well guys, Courtney flew out to meet ship on tuesday night. haven't heard from her yet. was hoping for a " i'm here and ok Mom" call but nothing yet. I understand it takes about 2 days to get there from where we are, but she should be there. Any advice from other moms on here about getting aphone call when they fly out to meet ship already out? I know in my mind she is ok but my heart REALLY needs a phone call!!

NORFOLK, Va. - Six thousand sailors are heading back to Hampton Roads this weekend after a seven-month deployment.
The Navy said Tuesday the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group is returning to Norfolk after supporting maritime security in the Navy’s 5th, 6th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.
Due to arrive Friday are the guided missile cruiser USS Monterey (CG 61) and the guided missile destroyers USS Mason (DDG 87) and USS Nitze (DDG 94).
The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) is scheduled to arrive on Saturday.
Merry X-Mas to all of the Familys and Sailor on the USS Mason, I have my sailor home for X-mas this Year! Only for a small time but I will take what I can get!!
Hi To everyone it's been awhile but just started looking up the site again. I been thinking of going to visit my Son, But his been real busy. I miss him . Well take care to all.
Hello ladies. This is my fiance's first deployment. He graduated the friday before they shipped out so this is all new for him and I. I'm having a lot harder time with this than I thought. Has anyone heard anything from anyone on the ship? I heard from him for a few days and now nothing for a week.
Down as in there is an issue with the internet they use or down because they are doing something? I hate not being able to talk to him. I have only seen him once in the last year and I know the next 6 months are gonna be hard for us both. I just hope it goes by super fast.
My husband is on the Mason and ALL of my emails to him tonight have been rejected. I was wondering if anyone knew anything because I am aware of them having to shut down communications a couple times before on this deployment but not once have my emails been sent back and not been able to send. The message I got was "Rejected by the recipient domain. Technical details of permanent failure."
Thank you. I did get some of my emails to send without an issue but some still will not send (with and without attachments). I can't seem to figure out why but I'm sure it will fix itself soon or at least I hope.
Happy Mother's Day everyone. I'm hoping someone will log on today to help me. I have been moving and have misplaced the FPO address for the Mason. I just checked the rules for this board and it is possible to post the FPO address. I have a package ready to go just can't find the address. Please someone help.
Hello to all. My son has been on hold in Great Lakes after finishing A school. He just got orders for C school in Dam Neck and will be joining the USS Mason after that. He is excited to be moving onto the next phase of his Navy Career. I'm excited to have found this group and I look forward to learning from you!
I'm almost at the end of the Mom of a land locked sailor and about to move on to the Mom of a sailor at sea. I have questions. Those rack curtains that you read about... are they worth getting? I know there's no room for something that doesn't really serve a purpose. Can we know what battle group the Mason is a part of? Just curious.
My son was just home for a week & I miss him already! He told me that he thought we would be able to watch the Mason leave port on the 22nd over the internet! Does anyone know more about this?
Now that the ship is deploying I am anxious to get to know you all!
So, I'm new to this whole "mom of sailor who is actually sailing" thing. The kid texted me an address this morning and it's identicle to the one on the Mason's website except my son had his name and "Weps" at the top of his text. What is 'Weps" ? Is that part of the address? Do they get mail in the middle of the ocean? From helicoptors, passing ships, friendly dolphins, industrious carrier pidgeons? I know they have e-mail on the carriers because I've gotten thank you's from people I've sent packages to for the Holiday project but do they have that on the Mason as well? I feel like we're in boot camp all over again because I'm out of contact and clueless. (Notice the "we" in the boot camp comment. I suppose the sailors might view it differently but it sure felt like eight weeks of hard work to me!) Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.
