Welcome ceecee and congratulations to kevinsmom and all other families celebrating their sailors successes!
  • CEECEE

He just pulled up and texted me saying that so far this place looks really cool, males me feel so much better since that's where he'll be living for the next year. We have 2 kids (3 1/2 and 18 months) and I am due with our final child this week (if baby is not here by thurs then dr wants to sch to be induced) and we will be moving to him in a couple of months. We're going to wait until he gets into the 'groove' of things and I need to make sure everything is good with baby and I and then start packing things up
  • SoProud

CEECEE< welcome to the group! You will find lots of support and encouraging words from all these wonderful ladies here and your hubby will love Groton.

SoProud- Lol...I'll let you know if anything else comes up! Thank you on behalf of my boys :-D

  • CEECEE

Today is my husbands 1st day of school. He told me he will be keeping his phone in his room just so he doesn't get into any trouble. I am die any day now. If this baby isn't here by Thursday then my dr wants to sch me to be induced. I'm just wondering, what if I go into labor today, how can I get a hold of him just so he knows?
  • Cath Bubblehead mom

Ceecee, I wish I had a good answer for you. They cannot bring their cell phones in the buildings. I would recommend texting his phone and he would get it as soon as he is out of class.
  • JTFsubmom

I haven't written anything in awhile but I do love reading all of your posts! My son is set to graduate radio school at the end of this month and is anxiously waiting his orders. I'm so excited to see him...the whole family is heading out to see him before he's assigned to a boat. It'll be great to have all 5 of my kids together again! Oh...for those of you who read my previous posts, my son did not end up getting married! I'm so glad he figured out before the wedding that he was rushing things and wasn't ready to take on that commitment. He's so happy with what he's doing in the Navy and excited to see where it will take him. Of course his dream sheet has his number one choice so far away!! Secretly I'm hoping for a much closer port! lol

  • Cath Bubblehead mom

Congratulations JTFsubmom! Not bring married he stands a good chance  of his far away port. Just think of the nice vacation you could have!

  • mrsb

JTFsubmom, congratulations on his graduation later this month!  My son is also radio and isn't due to graduate until the end of July.  I'm anxious to hear where they all will be going!!!  He said a lot of his class want Hawaii but I doubt they will all go there.  I'm also glad that your son decided to wait on getting married.  I think it will be much easier for him, and her.  The biggest test would be when he's deployed.  Let's all hope he gets his dream!!!

  • CEECEE

My husband just called me a couple of hours ago and the people higher then him approved him to leave when I have our baby!! If our baby isn't here by Thursday, they will sch me to be induced and ill give my hubby the date and they will do everything they can for him to be there. I am on cloud 9 right now!! I'm not telling our 4 year old daughter that he will be home next week just so shell be completely surprised!
  • FATHOMOM

Yay, Ceecee!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful news! I keep ALL of you in prayer!

JTFsubmom - happy to hear that all is well. Perhaps because I am a Mom too, I am pleased that your son has postponed marriage. Now they can take time to get to know eachother a little better  - all in good time things will work out. How wonderful that you will be surrounded by your five children - BIG NAVYMOM HUGG! Enjoy! It has been quite a year for all of our sons. Our son is due to graduate at the end of June and awaits his ETNAV orders too. This is another very exciting step in their NAVY journey. God speed to ALL. May God guide ALL of our precious sons in all they do.

  • mrsb

CEECEE, so happy for you!!!  I'm so happy that your husband will hopefully be there for the birth!!  Let's hope so anyway!!!  Bless you!!

  • ProudNavyMom#1

Great news CEECEE!!!! So happy for you and your family!! Will keep prayers coming!!!! Big NMH!!!
  • ProudNavyMom#1

JTF I'm so happy to hear your news of your Radioman graduating and being sent on assigment soon! And for you to have all your kids together at the same time. Make sure you take lots of pictures and get your hugs in.
Thank God your Son has decided to wait on marriage. I can't imagine how hard it must be for them the first year on assignment as they work for their dolphins and try to get some sort of schedule. God bless him and all our Sailors!
  • Ashley

My SR was told before he left for boot camp that he would be at A School in Groton for 30wks to train for MMS. But, according to his letters, he was told differently at his classification briefing last week. He was told it would be 49 days (7wks).

He says this sounds too good to be true, and I was thinking the same thing. If his schooling is 7wks he would graduate a week before our first child is due and may be able to attend the birth!! :-D

Does anyone know if 7wks for MMS is a possibility? I sincerely hope so...
  • navymom2013

Hi Ashley - congrats on your first child.  One thing I do know about the Navy is that they make and change rules, graduation dates and many other things at their discretion.  Seven Weeks doesn't sound like it would be enough time to teach correctly - could be - but don't get your hopes up. It takes them two weeks after they get there just to know their way around the base.

  • Cath Bubblehead mom

Hi Ashley - congratulations! I equate the Navy's estimation of "time" like watching the end of a ball game where 5 minutes can take 1/2 hour! If you only add up the class time, it is probably correct. However, there can be weeks in between class time while they wait for a class to be full to start.

I know you are anxious having the baby and all. You do not say if he is in Groton yet. If he is there, he can notify his commander about the impending birth and depending on his place in training might be able to get leave for a few days.

  • Ashley

He is in boot camp until June 6th.
  • Ladyrocker

before my son left for BC he was told he'd be going to Groton for 58 weeks of school.  Don't know if that helps.  Also I received my first letter last week but nothing this week.  Hoping he got my first 4 letters and getting ready to send a 5th one.....this one typed so maybe he can understand it better than my dreadful hand writing .  Also wondering if anyone else is still waiting for their "form letter"?  Joey said he mailed it in his first letter and was hoping I got it but to date I still haven't received it and his recruiter has yet to answer my email.  Starting to really get nervous and sweating this out......anyone else waiting for the form letter who's SR's PIR date is the 13th? j/w

  • ProudNavyMom#1

Lady rocker I'm sorry you have not received your form letter yet. If PIR is June 13 go to that PIR date on this website and try to read as much as you can so you can get an idea of what will go on and timing and other pertinent things. Keep asking your son so he lets someone know you don't have info and try to get someone to contact with that info. As far as not receiving mail from him or your son not receiving your letters yet, keep in mind that if one of them messes up, they all suffer consequences. One of them being not getting mail that week. Don't ask him if this is happening. Just know this. I didn't find out until later and not by my own son.

On another note my Sailor attended one of his buddies' wedding an hour ago and he and the other boys were so touched by it. He was so glad he was invited and texted fiancé about it. We were all together as we had all skyped with my son earlier today before the wedding. God bless the young couple, newlyweds.
  • Annette

Well, son got his first choice, Guam! USS Key West SSN 772. He is beyond excited, and we are excited for him! No dates yet, still has A school until 6/20. Very pleased and happy for him.

  • mrsb

Annette, so happy for your son to get the place that he wants!!!  I'm hoping he will be coming home before he goes to Guam?  :)

  • tidefan

I am getting excited. Wednesday morning early we leave home driving my son's car up to him at Groton. We live in north MS. We hope to arrive Friday about the time his duty is over for the day. We get to spend Memorial Day weekend with him and fly out Tuesday morning coming home

  • Kevsmom93

Annette happy, happy news for your son! Congratulations to him!

Safe and happy travels to you tidefan! Enjoy your son and your visit. My hubby and I never made it to Groton when our son was there and I would have loved to see the base. Everyone always has such a positive things to say about it.

  • Kevsmom93

JTF submom congratulations to your son! And can I say Wow, God bless you a proud of mom of five that is awesome! How exciting to have your whole family together again, lots of happy reunion tears are coming your way no doubt!!

  • mrsb

tidefan, have a wonderful trip!  How excited you must be to have your son captive in your car for the trip home!!  No running off to friends' houses, at least until you get home!  :)  Have a great visit with your son!  :)

Kevsmom, is your son still there with you?  I'm mixed up on days these days!!  I sure hope so!  :)

  • OklahomaMama

We are going to Groton for the first time next month to see my son graduate. We are staying at the Navy Lodge. He will be staying at Groton and joining the crew of the USS New Mexico, a Virginia class sub. Any recommendations on where to eat, or if anyone has stayed at the Navy Lodge can tell me what it's like? Thanks!
  • mrsb

Good morning OklahomaMama!!!  You'll have to go to Mystic Pizza!!  And there's a sushi place that ProudNavyMom took my son, hers and two others.  There's also a good BBQ place near the base that had good food but I can't remember the name of it.  It was less than a mile from base though.

  • Kevsmom93

Yep, I've got him for another whole week mrsb!!

  • FATHOMOM

Yay Kevsmom93 - enjoy your son have a wonderful week!

Annette - Congratulations and awesome to hear your son got his first choice - Guam. Graduation is just around the corner. What a year it has been!

tidefan - safe travel! We drove our sons truck out in October - you will enjoy Groton......huggs to your son! tooo funny mrsb...it's true, he will be  ALL yours tidefan. Enjoy!

OklahomaMama - Wonderful, happy news - you will enjoy Groton. We like Navy Lodge, it was clean, quiet, not too far from base. We totally fell in love with Mystic. Our fav place to eat was S&P Oyster Co. delish food and lovely view.

MacKenzie 33 - Hooyah on P.I.R. in June! sorry I do not know about a medal on taggs, I will ask my son. If so, I just may get one for our son!

  • ProudNavyMom#1

OklahomaMama, you will love Groton!!! The Navy lodge is literally around the corner! You will like your accommodations. I am including a pic of my room.  I asked for a room with double beds so my Son could stay with me, all for the same price, taxes included $75!!!! No hidden charges.

You will see so many Sailors and other Military at the front Lobby, I just kept asking them one by one if I could give them a hug and they always said yes!!! They felt so good and oh boy, be careful, because they are solid muscle hugs!!! HAHAHA I thought I was going to break in two!!! HAHAHA I took a pic with one of the Sailors, his last name was Eyore or something like that and he said good luck with spelling that! If this is one of your Sons, please let me know and I'll PM his photo to you!!!! He was the one that took the most time talking with me.  So sweet! I love all our boys!!! Ok, and the uniform! ;-) HAHAHA

My Son enjoyed the TUB the most!!! HAHA they only have showers so he said, mom, i will be a while laying in the tub, we don't have one of these and I really would like to enjoy it!! HAHAHA bless his heart! I was so happy knowing he was enjoying his bath!!! I even got to re heat his leftovers, make him some tea and actually made a whole other meal for him.  I did not buy groceries but you have all you need to keep groceries and cook in there if you want.  I was too busy trying out Restaurants! The Groton Townhouse serves all meals family style.  It's handy and they serve a lot of food.  Very friendly Service.  The Sushi place a little further under a freeway, called Koto Japanese Steak house is delicious! All the boys like it. And they are all in a health food kick so the less carbs the more they like their food.  But don't get me wrong, they WILL EAT everything!!! HAHAHA Dunkin Donuts are at every corner, no kidding! And they even have breakfast sandwiches and other stuff!! We only have 3 in Texas and they only sell donuts and coffee; so this was amazing to me.  FYI, the breakfast at Dunkin Donuts was the same price as the breakfast at Groton Townhome, just 0.2 miles from the Navy Lodge. There are a lot of corner stores and they sell alcohol in them, so if you want a pack of gum and you ask someone there where to go, they'll tell oh, there's a liquor store right there at the corner.  Liquor store? All I want is gum!!! HAHAHA I thought it was funny bc our corner stores do not sell liquor!! haha

I concur with going to Mystic, CT to the Mystic Pizza restaurant, the pizza is delicious!! Well, you have to experience it.  Don't take my word for it, you decide.  The boys had the Calzones and what was left of my pizza!! HAHAHAHA and I even took a slice to Navy Lodge for pm snack :)

Walls are thin at Navy Lodge and there are some families staying there with children, but remember, they are visiting their loved one so it really didn't bother me that the kids were a little loud, they were happy to see their daddy and it warmed my heart.  I prayed for them and their family.  It must be hard for them all.

The sights are breathtaking! take in the sights the colors, the smells.  The rivers, lakes.  THE BOULDERS!!! Huge!!! We don't have those here in flat land Houston! There is a lot of new builds.  They really need the new homes for those stationed there and their families.  Ask your Son to take you around base and the Nautilus Museum tour, the first nuclear powered Sub! it was cool!!!

Ok so I wrote too much so I'll post the pics on separate post. Oops there's the red highlight again telling me too many words. Have a nice trip! God bless,

  • ProudNavyMom#1

Here is the pic of the Navy Lodge I took, I was so impressed. The room is not much bigger than a regular room but a little kitchenette makes a big difference.

  • ProudNavyMom#1

Have to brag about our boys (mrsb's and the other two we love beside our Sons)  Here's some pics of them

  • ProudNavyMom#1

New York City, tough guys look! hahahha I love them

  • OklahomaMama

Thank you so much ProudNavyMom#1! Your post is so helpful. I'm very excited to get there and see everything!
  • mrsb

ProudNavyMom, thanks for posting those pictures!!  I hadn't seen some of them!!!  Such handsome Sailors you got to hang out with!  Oh, and my son rarely takes a picture that he isn't making faces in.  :)

  • ProudNavyMom#1

I just got a hold of my son and texted for 30 min.  This is crazy, he was texting his sister and me at the same time and Lord knows who else!!! HAHAHA I hope his fiance too!!!

Well, they are back on day classes and a group of them were just getting back from working out.

I was feeling down bc I hadn't heard from him but boy I just keep sending those two liners letting him know I love him! :-)

He made my day! they are so busy with school  I hope they all do great!!!

mrsb, the pics of your boy making faces are the best! He does have a nice smile too! :-)

Well, I'm feeling great now that I heard from him!

God bless us all who didn't sign up for this roller coaster ride yet hang in there to support our boys! :-)

  • mrsb

Amen to that ProudNavyMom, we didn't really sign up for this ride but we're holding on the best we can!  Gotta love those boys!

  • Ashley

Can someone please tell me what Phase III Liberty at A School entails? My SR says that it means he can wear civilian clothes and live off-base with me. Is this true? I've been researching it online and can't find anything about living off base. I see that he gets overnight privileges, weekend liberty, and gets to wear civilians clothes. But, nothing about living with your wife.
  • Cath Bubblehead mom

Your husband? Yes. Are you in Groton?
  • Ashley

I am married to my SR, yes. :-) No, I am not in Groton. My husband is nearing the end of boot camp and I am 7mo pregnant in Florida. I am sure a week after he graduates BESS. He says after BESS he is automatically Phase III Liberty.
  • Ashley

I am due a week after he graduates BESS.**
  • Cath Bubblehead mom

I would focus on relaxing and not getting your hopes up - Many people get delayed starting BESS because they need enough guys for a class - he could be in Groton a couple of weeks before starting BESS. I don't mean to disappoint - but I don't want you to get your hopes up.

Also, if someone in his division screws up - the whole division  can get white washed (the color of their liberty Phase card - White is I)

  • mrsb

Ashley, Cath is right.  Just focus on your baby right now.  Someone in my son's group decided to draw "something" in the head and they all got bumped back to white card-no one could leave the base for any reason, no civvies, it was awful for them.  Never did find out who did it but I know they weren't happy.

  • Kevsmom93

ProudNavyMom#1 how awesome is that! So happy for you to text with your son :-)

Oh my goodness those picture were so great! You both have very handsome boys and what good sports to take all those pics with you!

Did I ever tell you I am not a fan of roller coasters....lol!

  • Kevsmom93

mrsb I was referring to you about the pics too!

  • FATHOMOM

Ashley, it is true we do not want to disappoint you. We just want to prepare you for wait time. We understand it may be frustrating at times, in NAVY time, it will all work out. NAVY is alot of hurry up and wait. We have learned to go with it...when it happens, it happens. We are NAVY Mom's, so we relate a little differently than a NAVY Wife in this situation ....but we TOTALLY understand. There are several qualifications your Sailor must complete and earn once he arrives @ Groton = their Liberty Phase Card.Your Sailor will be very busy his first few weeks meeting his quals. And just like BOOT if one messes up, they are likely all to be disciplined. From my experience, Groton does delay many courses until there are enough guys or instructors for the class. Hurry up and wait....it will happen.  However, it is a great family to be apart of. Your Sailor will be happy here. Do your best not to worry toooo much - in time everything will fall into place for you and your lil family. We are here for you. Take good care of YOU!
