Nope, my email is working fine. Are you talking about email to and from the ship or just email in general? I received an email from my son today so the ship email is working also.
Sorry off subject but I sent a package about 3 weeks ago and it hasn't been received yet. I was averaging about 2 weeks previously. Any word about delays?
lymurphy ~ I too was averaging 2 weeks but the last package I sent took 5 weeks!!! Just be sure to pack it good, tight, waterproofed and taped up on all corners well and it will make it :-) I guess now I should be figuring 5 weeks instead of 2.
stuntsmom - i know my hubby was having some issues finding a computer with working email, etc this past week so his emails have been sparing compared to normal.
We've never had a package get there in 2 weeks. Ours always take 4-6 weeks. I think it has something to do with ours being sent from the western half of the country. I think those that send from the east coast go a different route which is much quicker.
My daughter-in-law in Norfolk has sent a package the same day we sent one from Arizona and hers arrived 3 weeks before ours did.
My last 2 packages took 7 (from Amazon) and 5 weeks respectively... he just received them last Friday.
Btw, I had included a water bottle with filter inside + extra filters, and he loves it. He says it makes the water taste great. Also loves the small fan for his rack, 5" I think. He says it's nice and quiet.
Hubby put in comedy movie Hot Shots with Charlie Sheen in DVD player last night. I about split my pants laughing during the opening scene. Cooking a hot dog by jet engine. Valet parking of jets, handicap parking for jets, parellel parking a jet, on and on. If you have it, watch it... LOL
As one that LOVES slapstick (Airplane, Naked Gun movies, etc), yeah - I'd say second one is worth it. But to get Hot Shots #1, you must be a fan of Top Gun too.
I thought Hot Shots was funny but now that I have a sailor, I was dying with laughter...
Hope your Sailor isn't affected, I heard they found some bed bugs in a couple berthing areas. Possibly from rugs or blankets purchased in the last port. I don't have confirmation of this as I read it on another group.
I just had a friend call me whose husband works at Boeing and they told me the same thing. Not what I wanted to hear on a Friday morning (or any other morning for that matter)
An official told CNN today that the United States plans to move the aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush into the Persian Gulf in coming hours to provide President Barack Obama with options for possible airstrikes against militants in Iraq, CNN's Barbara Starr reports.
President Obama will make a statement soon on Iraq. WATCH CNN for complete coverage. Get complete coverage of breaking news on CNN TV, CNN.com and CNN Mobile.
A friendly warning, please don't be sending emails to your Sailors ABOUT THIS SITUATION as your Sailor isn't allowed to discuss it over email and you run the risk of getting them in trouble if they did happen to break the rules and respond to you about it. We're all going to have to find out about this stuff from the News like the rest of the world.
Navy ships often block communication (email/phone) when they are given orders to move somewhere else, especially when it involves possible combat operations. They don't want to run the risk of their position or orders being communicated to loved ones and leaked to the news or our enemies.
Yeah, a lot of the time the crew isn't told until after they have executed the movement to avoid any unauthorized communication off the ship. Lots of times my family knew about stuff my ship was doing before I ever did and I was on the ship. :)
I sure was not expecting this deployment to get eventful. Are they getting our email? I haven't heard from Edward in two weeks. Dumb question, what is OPSEC? Is there any news given to the families about what is happening? I am praying as well and being thankful that they are on a very well protected ship.
OPSEC is operations security... not being able to discuss specific details of ship movement and what is going on until it is made public by the military... and I got an email from my sailor last night and of course we didn't discuss what is going on just family stuff....
Hi! I'm trying to figure out when to mail my cousin the cool 4th of July card I got him and wondered if anyone knew how quickly they've been getting mail-like cards and letters, not packages? I write regularly, but not sure how quickly he's getting it...I know it can change, just wanted an idea. Thanks!
My sailor emailed me this am. He was worried about ........ The kick off time for the England game tonight lol. He is setting his alarm so he can go without sleep to watch his beloved England :). Not sure if he'll be the only one wearing an England shirt I do know there's one more guy on the GHWB that will be watching England too so he won't be alone. He looks at this way. He has 2 chances to get a team as far as possible lol.
I haven't heard from my sailor either going on 3 weeks, and is killing me not to hear from him. Last I talked to him he said the last port they were visiting was Beautiful. I hope all them sailors had some much deserved relaxing time, they work non stop. May God Bless them all, and thank you for all you do for our country.
Don't worry yourselves over these events as this is what they are trained for and the reason they are over there in the first place. They have probably been doing the same thing in Afghanistan for several months now. They have definitely been preparing for scenarios just like this. The adversary they are headed towards doesn't have a Navy so there is very little threat from that. The biggest danger would be the increased operations tempo on the ship and handling of more ordinance than they normally do. Working harder and faster can lead to more work related injuries so they need to follow the safety training that has been taught to them since the day they arrived at RTC.
You should all feel proud that your loved ones are answering the call when there are so many others that are unwilling to do so themselves. We owe them so much, most of all our support and gratitude. God bless the Sailors aboard the USS GHWB as they execute their orders, whatever they may be. They are truly great Americans and you can be very proud of each of them.

For the last 3 boxes that I sent together from California. One got there in 2 1/2 weeks, the other two arrived a week after that.
No issues with email, we've been emailing everyday. Over a week ago he did say their email was having issues, it's been fine since.

Interesting Jackie, that blows my theory. Have not idea why ours take so long then. Maybe it is just luck of the draw.

I'm sending another 2 this week. We'll see. I also sent him stuff straight from Amazon.com and it took over 3 weeks to get there.

I just love it when a crew breaks from the daily grind and does this (and the Capt. gets involved too!)

Lol Anita, definitely some laughs in Hot Shots. I've never seen the second one, is it worth watching?
