DaynasMom, it's nice to connect with a fellow mom from this squadron, my son works nights and they never have any pictures of the night crew.

  • SailorMom94

Mine is a CSSN and has worked all shifts also very few pictures.
  • Anita n Ohio

I haven't seen a pic of my sailor since they changed depts.  Now they are night shift (have gone 40 days without seeing the sun before) and not a single pic...but with +5,000 people on board - kind of a one in a million shot I'd get to see them.   One would figure that someone from the P.R. dept could have someone at least one time during this deployment take shots late at night of more than the activity on the flight deck.

  • KathyWQ

I never saw a picture of my son either.  He was supposed to be working the flight deck but for the last 6 months has been cranking down below. Finally he is back topside and  last week we thought we saw his picture so I sent it to him asking if it was him and he said no and then I asked if he tried to hide from the camera or what. I told him I have seen everyone else on that dang ship but him.  LOL  He said he had just had his picture taken and told me what he was doing.  Lo and behold there he was!  I would have never found him because it was a far away shot and I can't see his face but he said thats its him.  But I totally understand the frustration!

  • Anita n Ohio

The one time they took a pic of them, I didn't find it!    Someone else did.

  • Angeleyesm

This is our third deployment and my husband works flight deck and he has never had his picture on facebook . However they do email pics they take to the guys and sometimes I get forwarded ones from him

Picture was on the "US Navy" Facebook page.  Just had to share!!!

  • TLC72

That picture is beautiful. It was with an article yesterday in Navy Times saying they transited the Suez Canal and are headed home! I believe it said the picture was from the Gulf of Aden.

  • CousinSarah

Saw this today on the  U.S. Naval Forces Central Command / U.S. 5th Fleet page and thought someone might be able to see their loved one in it, but not follow that page

  • SMom808

Thanks for sharing the article Denise.. wow - what a deployment this has been!

  • stuntsmom

anyone else have email returned to them??
  • MarianneKT's Mom

stuntsmom - I had a maelerdemon this am from a text a sent yesterday. But I have heard from my daughter today.  She said that their internet had gone down but had just gotten it back....that was 7:40 am EST.

  • JackieD

I had an email returned undeliverable this morning. Then 10 minutes after, I received an email from my son and it's been fine all day.
  • stuntsmom

thanks mariannes mom...he just responded to me and had received the message although I got the failure notice... just wanted to be sure it wasn't something on my end.. thanks
  • SailorMom94

WTKR.com will live stream the USS Bataan. I'm told we should also be able to watch the USS George H W Bush when they return. For those of us that can't make this homecoming I hope we at least get this. I just want to see my Sailor. They also have several reports with picture your Sailor's might be in.
  • Anita n Ohio

Everyone ready for Halloween?    We've decorated out yard and bought 5 boxes of candy bars (yeah, the FULL size).  For those not dressed up or old enough to be my mother - they get a piece of penny candy.

  • JackieD

Anita - love the decor :)  We're driving to Lake Tahoe tonight, this will be the first time we're not decorating or will be home for Halloween :(

  • Dad of Sailor

Got an email from my son today and he ended it with "talk to you soon" which I've not heard in a while. Getting more excited every day.

  • stuntsmom

yes dad I'm stoked as well :-)
I had a question: my sailor is moving cross country changing his duty station shortly after they return about how long will they give him to move? how much leave typically?

FYI - I'm posting this purely for the picture!  This picture was taken on my birthday :-)     http://www.upi.com/Top_News/Analysis/Outside-View/2014/10/27/Defens...

You can watch the USS Bataan return live on WTKR.com and pre paired for when our Sailor come home.

MOG I just got a call from Captain Andrew telling me my Sailor is sitting in his chair and is Avenger of the day out of the 6000 aboard, best Halloween Treat ever. Then I got to talk to my Sailor and he said he was eating the Captains cookies and watching the sunset from his chair, how cool is that.
  • Anita n Ohio

TOO COOL, SailorMom94!!!!!   Wonder if those were his favorite Girl Scout cookies?  lol     Best Halloween Surprise Ever!!!   Congrats!

  • SailorMom94

Thanks Anita N Ohio, I was just finishing the live feed of the return of the USS Bataan so I could make sure I don't miss the return of our Sailor's. I'm was so sad that I can't make it when the phone call came in and the Captain was on other side, I'm still in shock and bedside myself. The last time I was filled with such emotions is the day he was born.
  • Mahler

Sailor Mom 94, that is so cool the Captain is treating your Avenger of the Day like he's "King on the mountain "!! (What a mammoth-sized mountain of sailors to be tops of)!! I even got teared up reading it! To be "feeling the love" like that is astronomically oustanding!! Congrats to YOU, proud Momma AND of course, to ur sailor! Gees oh pete(!!!), huh!?! !! It's a good day in America!!
  • Mahler

Please thank all your sailors, from "Mahler". :)
  • SailorMom94

Thanks Mahler it is amazing and yes Thank you everyone in your support of all the amazing work each Sailor is doing on this deployment. God bless American.
  • Dad of Sailor

Thanks Dad for sharing the port information. I too am getting so excited for talking to my sailor at homecoming

  • lbimom

sailor mom94  congratulations of your sailor being the Avenger of the Day! What an outstanding achievement for him and for the job you did in raising him! (or her!)

Great news about port call--hope they all have a chance to enjoy it.

  • Dad of Sailor

Woke up to a message on my phone from my Son...said he was in Ireland and on his way home. He's on the advance party so he gets to fly home and take leave for a while. Should get to talk to him tonight.

  • SailorMom94

Dad of Sailor that sounds awesome. Ireland must be absolutely beautiful at this time
  • lbimom

nothing compared to the sight of our sailors! good for you, dad of sailor!

  • TLC72

Dad of Sailor- What does that mean? I didn't know they did that. Just curious.

  • lbimom

i also would love to know how to live stream as i will not be there, unfortunately.  Would have been nice to meet you all!

  • SailorMom94

WTKR.com and Navymil.com both live stream. They will post the time of stream. Good luck seeing your Sailor.
  • Anita n Ohio

WHEW, busy weekend getting all Halloween decorations put away and get yard to look normal.  NOW - countdown until TURKEY DAY when we put up Christmas Decorations!!!!

MAN!   Who turned the temp down!!   Brrrrrr.    Need more time to get ready for those cold eastern winds...brrrrrrrrrr.

  • TLC72

http://www.navy.mil is the official Navy page and if it is live streamed, it will be on there also. There is usually a link to it on the US Navy Facebook page too.

  • SailorMom94

Anita N Ohio where are you at. I'm in Cali and it is just now getting cooler, so done with the heat out here.
  • Dad of Sailor

Tracy - they send a group home early to take leave so when the ship gets back they can go onboard and stand duty so the rest of the crew can go have a few days off. He flew out of France and arrived home in Norfolk today along with a bunch of others.

  • TLC72

I wondered how those, like my son, who didn't take POM leave are still able to get a few days off when they get back. That makes sense. Thanks for explaining.

  • Mahler

To Dad of a Sailor-  I don't know....  Who needs French champagne, popped and dranken in front of the Eiffel tower (for the video's visual effect), escargot, or French onion soup?!!  Lol.  Give me Burger King!!  Jk.  I finally got a reciprocated candle lit for ME(!), with a prayer, to boot (how sweet)!  And, done in the Notre Dame cathedral, I might add.  Life is good!  Happiness is... seeing my sailor is getting some much needed R and R.  :D  And in such a lovely and fascinating place!  The Eiffel tower in Paris is much more stunning (the solid white lights) than the mini replica/restaurant one in Las Vegas.

  • Mahler

Baby, it's cold out!  We've had temps 20 degrees colder than the average lows.  Woowee!!  Thank goodness I just got stocked up on my winter clothes!

  • Anita n Ohio

SailorMom94:    I'm NW of Cincinnati, Ohio.  Halloween was a BUST due to rainy cold weather.  We guess we had maybe 24 kids in all.  Now to get rid of 4 boxes of full-size candy bars.   UGH!  Maybe use for Christmas presents!!  lol

  • Anita n Ohio

Woo Hoo!!   I was #9 at my voting poll.  What was your number?

Now, don't tell me you are one that does not vote.  Because if you are, I will have to take me Navy Mom loving self over to your residence and kick your butt!   Too many have died for us to have the RIGHT to vote.  Show respect for those that died giving you that American Right!

  • CousinSarah

    I was #247
