My son graduated FMTB on the 24th, and it was a very nice ceremony. I stayed at Ward Lodge, which is right on the base. It is not close to the schoolhouse where the ceremony was held, but I liked it because that way the morning of the ceremony I was already through security. I had a very nice room with refrigerator and microwave, etc. and it was (I think) $65 per night. Can't beat it!
  • jesspoo05

eurekamom- so glad you got to go! it is a nice ceromony! congrats to your son!
grandboboo-thanks for the info. i didn't even hear about it! their families are in our prayers!
  • mom22militarymen

My husband and I went out for the FMTB graduation on June 24, 2011 and were honored to be there. Our son looked great as did all the Corpsmen that day. The ceremony was wonderful and all the guests and visitors were beaming with pride for their Corpsmen. My husband and I were moved by the ceremony and awed by the hard work those men did to get through the training.

We stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn in Oceanside. It was about a 15 minute ride to the base, easy to get to. The hotel was pretty new, beautiful, clean and the customer service was great.

To all of you who have sailors who graduated that day, Congratulations.

  • Regina (SHIP 02, DIV 911)

Mom22 - I always stay at Marriott! They have the cleanest rooms. My son starts FMTB on August 1st. Looking forward to the ceremony too  :-)
  • Regina (SHIP 02, DIV 911)

Ruth - ty for sharing, sounds like you had a wonderful time  :-)

been a little quite on here. just wanted to stop in and say hi! hope all is well with everyone! i am a little excited cause it seems like our vacation is finially falling into place! my bf and i are going back to az to spend almost 2 weeks with family and friends. it is already almost a year since we have been back. i cant wait! still waiting on offical word that his leave gets approved. but outlook looks good! this is the closest we have gotten, we were supposed to go back at the beginning of april but things just kept changing! don't want to get tooo excited yet but it will be a nice roadtrip for us. first one we have ever gone on just the 2 of us!!! yay!!!!
  • MrsS

Yeah Jess! Vacations are the best. It has been quiet here. Being on base has been wonderful for my family and Corpsman. Right now he's out in 29 Palms with his AAV unit. I kinda feel bad for having an Ocean view when he is in 110 degrees with only sagebrush in sight.

    Any other updates out there?

  • Pam

jesspoo05 - That's wonderful things are falling into place for you and the boyfriend.  It's always great for the soul to go back and be with family.  When my husband was in the Army and stationed in El Paso, TX, we drove from there to Chicago.  It only took 26 hours!  Never again!  And I had a puppy plastered to me and I was pregnant with my son Jamie (my Corpsman).  We still do road trips to Chicago every now and then from Atlanta, thank goodness only half the distance!

    Hope everyone's doing well....

  • jesspoo05

mrsS- that is great that things are going well for you on base! i can understand feeling a little bad about a nice ocean view and him having to be at 29 plams! hope he is almost done and gets to come home to a cooler place soon!!

pam- i am looking foward to going home!! i cant wait!! and i know about thoes long road trips well!! im from mn and moved to az! so we drove that a handful of times. it is 30 hr drive! ick! this is only going to be a 8 hr drive to go back to az. so not to bad! and glad you still get to visit home and that it isn't so far anymore!
  • jesspoo05

his leave was offically approved last week!! yay!! vacation here we come!! watch out tucson!! only about 37 days till we go!! yay!!!
and also got to see my dad for the day. he was in town on business and i didn't find out till sunday. i had tues already off so i drove the hour and a half to go see him for about 10 hours or so. any chance to see my parents i will take, since they live in MN and I don't get to see them very often! but good news as well, my mom and my dad are both going to be in town in about 2 months and i will get to see them and spend some time with them both again!! yay!! seems like things are going pretty well, i am blessed!! hope all is well with all of you!
but if it isn't and anyone feels like talking we are always here for any of you!!!!
  • jesspoo05

ruth. sorry about the weather. even though the weather is hot for pretty much everywhere. here it seems pretty nice actually. hope it cools down soon though. nice comic, and sooo true.. lol. and hope everything is going well for your son in the field. hope he is learning/perfecting a lot of good skills, and having some fun too!
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Hello All! Just thought I'd find out more about what my SR will be embarking on once he gets through BC & A school.
  • eurekamom

Hi HvnlySno - welcome!  You will enjoy this site.  Lots of good people with good information.
  • jesspoo05

welcome HvnlySno. glad to answer any questions you may have. where is your SR now, BC? if so how far along are they? or have they left yet?
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Thank you for the welcome!  He got there 6/30, so I think he's in the PIR 8/26...haven't gotten a letter yet...none today, hopeing for tomorrow...I'm in Alaska, so I'm sure mail takes awhile!  He joined as a reservist about a month before the age cut off...39.  He is a social worker by trade :)  We just met this past spring and our friendship grew...alot!  So, I'm not a recipiant of "The Box" or the form letter...so I have no idea what division he's in.  I have a stack of letters waiting for his address though!  Anyhow, I'm not sure what I want to know, but I want to support and encourage him!  Thanks!
  • jesspoo05

if and when you can get his address, write, write, write, write!! even if you have to wait till later to get them to him. even though i hope you can get ahold of him. thoes letters are not only important to him to help support him, they are a really good way for you to feel like you are talking to him and feel closer to him, and to help pass the time. time will fly!! are you going to try to go to graduation? good luck! we are here for you!!
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

I've got 13 letters written so far! No mail today :( some say it takes maybe 4 weeks to get a letter. Plus I'm pretty far north! I'm not going to graduation, but we are talking about a big vacation after he's done training. I've even been keeping a journal where I "talk" to him. I'll give it to him someday. Thanks for being here!
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Ruth, my SR best friend; who introduced us, is aquainted with his brother (they all grew up together)...but, she only has access to him on facebook. I'll see her monday and we shall see what we can do! If anything I can at least try on my end! Shows my loyalty & ingenuity!! LOL! But, as someone who's gone into servic myself; though briefly (medical discharge) I can relate to what he's going through. I'm sure being older will have it's challenges, but he can do it! I believe in him! I don't want him to go through BC without knowing someone out there supports him and has faith in him! Thank you!
  • Pam

Ruth - love the cartoon and can relate.  Although originally from Chicago we have been outside of Atlanta for eleven years now and this summer has been brutal here.  Uck!  Ready for something in the 80s!

Welcome HvnlySno - Friends, girlfriends, moms, dads - ALL are welcome.  If I hadn't found this site, I'm quite sure I would have been clueless as to what SR's go through!  Definately join the bootcamp group.  It will help you get a handle on what they go through.

  • Joan F

Hi all haven't been on here in quite awhile, but hopefully now things will calm down. My daughter got married on July 9 and is now living at Camp Pendleton with her Marine. My Corpsman was home for a couple of weeks for the holiday and the wedding, it was so nice to have him home for a short while.

Jesspoo so glad your vacation is shaping up, it is so needed. I am also from MN was born and raised in Minneapolis. My mom couldn't make it out for the wedding so haven't seen her in a few years. So glad you got to spend some time with your Dad. Hope all is well and all are keeping well with this heat, is supposed to get in the 100's here in Nor Cal.

  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Hello All! I got my letter today! Finally! So out went 18 cards, letters & Dodger scores to my love! He says it's "**ll" but the food is good! Lol! It took 2 almost 2 weeks to get to me! I'm glad to know he's ok & hanging in there!
  • jesspoo05

that is so awesome! so glad you gotto hear from him!! i know he will LOVE getting all 18 of thoes letters! and now you can keep them going!! and i know that even if/when it starts getting rough for him he will then have your letters to help get him through!! keep us updated!
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

We both love writing to eachother. I know he may not be able to as training steps up the next couple of week, but he can count on letters from me!
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Mine will be heading there after PIR on 8/26...maybe you could share your experience with A school with me? :)
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Thank you Carol for sharing!  Incredible!  I am so proud of him and have to admire his courage in choosing to embark on this journey.  I am with him all the way...go big or go home!  He didn't expect to meet me...had a plan already in the works to commit to this job.  I admire his commitment and dedication.  Makes me want to do more and be more; for my kids, for myself and for him.  He deserves someone who will be loyal, understanding, compassionate, and supportive...lol!  He has no idea who he's got!  I guess this is a good way to find out...I'll be cheering him on all the way!  I'm all excited and inspired now!  I'll never sleep!
  • MrsS

Thank Carol. I love watch the FMTB videos. I can't believe my husband did that 35. His age motivated a lot "kids".
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Well I know my SR will do the same! He's 39!
  • MrsS

HvnlySno, that is awesome! He will be amazing.
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Oooo!! I got a letter today!!! He is passing & keeping up! He says he's older than 95 percent of his ship mates! I know he can do it! I'm working out at home too! He sounds up beat & is growing as a person while there. Appreciating things he takes for granted everyday. I miss him!
  • Joan F

NavyFiancee my son graduated A school last Dec then went straight to Camp Pendleton and worked in the clinic until he started FMTB in Jan. He was able to come home for a couple of weeks after he got to Camp Pendleton. He then was able to spend a couple of days with us before going to his first assignment at a clinic in Nevada.
  • zStratMom

Good Morning. I've just had my membership approved, and searched out FMTB & Camp Pendleton FMTB. As I enter this first post, I grieve for the families of those lost in Afghanistan. I have two sons in the Navy, and know many military--including SEALS. What a loss.
  • LesCorpsmanmama

Hi Carol: Could you please repost the graduation video...having trouble viewing it or if you can please post YouTube address thank you
  • LesCorpsmanmama

Carol: thank you it's so rewarding to see it and can't wait to head out there Sept 30 mills of thx for sharing
  • jesspoo05

Hi all, looks like we have a few new members! yay! welcome! glad you all found this forum!

NavyFiancee-the first few weeks of FMTB i think were the hardest. the communication then starts to pick up again. the tests are hard but certainly not impossible, but they must study study study!! they are also def challenged physically of course but it pays off. when they spend the time if the field, communication is shut off again. and even though you spend the time worrying, they spend the time "playing". yeah it doesn't seem like the most fun sometimes when they are there, but certainly afterwards they come away saying that it was so fun! my bf was going though it in jan and it was really cold in the mornings cause they didn't let them wear coats or anything. so they would just huddle up really close. talk about getting to know your neighbor! but it  isn't so bad right now temp wise.

anyways, we are here to answer any questions that anyone may have.

i am living here now cause we knew thats where he was gettting stationed after FMTB. but he is talking about trying to deploy now in the middle of feb of next year with some of his friends... boo!!!!!! but only like 18 days now till we get to go on vacation!! yippie! just me and him and the road!

  • Joan F

Hey jesspoo do you live on base? My daughter just moved into base housing with her husband who is a Marine, so she doesn't know anyone there except some Marines lol. Yes what I remember about FMTB was the tests and to make sure you pass them as my son failed one and got demoted down to having muster up every night until he passed the makeup test so wasn't much fun when you are exhausted to have to line up then go back to bed. I loved the video that Carol had posted because it showed the things they were doing so when my son would call and talk about things I would know what he was talking about.

Navyfiancee I think the hardest thing about when he was at FMTB was he was so close but so far as too far to drive down there for who knows how much time off he would have. The good thing was they could call when they were not in the field. If you are going to send care packages for the field make sure you send them early as one I sent he almost didn't get it before they went on the big field trip.

  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

What can we send? He loves cookies...of course I'd make some to share :). In his last letter he wrote on the back...PS don't send care packages...they will eat them in front of me!! He's still at BC PIR on 8/26
  • MrsS

HvnlySno, don't send care packages until Corps School. The RDCs will eat them in front of your recruit. Send paper items like news stories or print up comics. I sent kids school work, from my class and our own kids. The more you write the better.

Joan F, I live on base, we in Wire Mountain. If she wants my email let me know. My Corpsman leaves for Japan October 1, I need friends.

My husband compared late night muster to being up with our babies at night!

  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Oh I know not to send anything until later! Now they would not be a good idea! Do you mean A school or when he goes to Camp P?
  • MrsS

A school is fine. I had to send my husband a box of clothes, when had phase II liberty. Space is pretty limited in A school, FMTB is back to no space. If you really want to send FMTB cookies, let me know and I'll do it for you. They can order pizza, so I can deliver cookies.
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

LOL!  He loves pizza!  I could surprise him with pizza!  I'll send you a friend request, so I can take you up on that cookie delivery!
  • Joan F

I remember sending cookies, jerky, snacks and such to A school. The guys and instructors liked when my son got a package. In FMTB I sent him jolly ranchers, wisp toothbrushes and such when he went out into the field. It seemed like it took longer to get his stuff at CP than A school which was at Great Lakes still and I live in CA.

I hear you MrsS those late nites with babies is something else. He really paid for his not passing that one test as it was hard for him to lay down then get up to muster then back to bed and then up early.

  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

I told him before he left I'd send him sone North Pole coffee when he got to
A school, but in his last letter he said he hasn't had a cup if coffee since he got to BC! I said, uh oh...are we switching to tea??
  • jesspoo05

In BC they really arent allowed to have stuff like that. they may have decaffe possibly, but know my bf said that they had sugar free jello even, and diet soda. so not sure how well coffee would go over.

joanF-I don't live on base cause i am only his gf, and the day we get married he will move into my apt, which is right next to base. but it really would be great to meet some more women around here!! if your daughter want to chat you can give her my email or find me on FB. just ask me and i will send you it.

  • Joan F

I remember them not having coffee just instant stuff and when a couple of the guys got a real cup of coffee they were like out of control with the caffeine lol. Yes packages did take a long time to get to FMTB, and have to send off a care package to my daughter so hope it doesn't take forever. At least it is things that won't go bad.
  • HvnlySno (S11, DIV 276)

Great advice!  I'm trying to kick a diet coke habit that itn't going too well!  I'm sure things will take twice as long to ship from Alaska!!  Oh, well...he's worth it!
  • jesspoo05

so sadly on thursday i got into a pretty nasty car accident. i am alright for the most part. sore and have a little cut on my hand from the air bag. but alright. it was the other persons fault and i am almost positive my car is totaled! i just hope it all works out really soon, so i can put this whole thing behind me. and we are going on our vacation in 6 days. i am happy for that. and it shouldn't mess up any of our vacation plans so it is good. i can't wait for it even more now!! it will give us time together and get to see family and friends and time for me to recover a little better. thought i would share. i was sooooo gald to be near my bf and that he is not deployed right now!!!
